I always love Raul for many reasons - one, voiced by god damn Danny Trejo. He is a fun Ghoul to have around. Awesome mexicaa cowboy - [vaquero] He has so some info about the fallout universe that isn't related to the West Coast area, nor the DC - any of the games but outside. He has a tragic backstory. And did I forgot he was voiced by Danny Trejo?
I always assumed Raul was in his late teens, early twenties when his family ranch was attacked. Also, I know they don't mention it, but he did say they lived on a ranch. I wonder if they still had horses.
he was a young adult at the time of the war. I think Ox kind of slipped there. Raul said he was young, but he was old enough to be using pistols, so can't have been a small boy
Honestly, Raul is one of the cooler companions in FNV. He's like Deadpool in a way. Locked forever in a state between an old man who wants to settle down and accept the life of being nothing more than that, or being an old man who wants a true end to his lust for vengeance as the Vaquero. He's also really sassy and funny.
Raul was and still is my absolute favorite companion and is the only companion i kept with me throughout the game, and i chose to help him, be nice and he chose the gunslinger way, plus i so wanted that outift!!!
Oxhorn, I hope you read this. I absolutely fell in love with your videos when I found you a week ago. You allow me to enjoy this story of fallout so much more with your amazing voice and consistent lore plundering. I'm glad to say that of all the UA-cam channels I follow I gladly allow all adds to play because you deserve every damn cent.
Reminds me of a perk that I had on Fallout 3 (don't know about NV because I haven't played yet), every time you killed someone on VATS it recharged all your AP, so you could kill all the enemies and get out with your whole HP
Raul would make for a great protagonist in a Fallout movie. Just imagine Danny Trejo playing him, going through the process of Ghoulification, trying to save Claudia and eventually settling in Vegas
Fallout NV feels so much better than 3 and 4 it has that rpg feel and great lore to it plus the voice actors are astounding I hope obsidian or the orginal writers write fallout 5
Black Isle Studios is back don't know if any of there OG's are back that worked on the first two fallout games and I don't know what they are developing or designing theses days.
Oxhorn, I think it's great that you added the ending slideshow of the corresponding character! The only reason that I let oldman Raul to continue fighting with his pistol is because the "ghost vequero" ending is just too cool to miss. "Invigorated by his travels with the Courier, Raul once more took up his guns in memory of his lost Rafaela. Soon after, the Mojave was filled with tales of the ghost-vaquero who hunts down those who prey on the weak." How epic is that?

I personally like the companion stories in New Vegas more than Fallout 4's, the companions where cool and all, but there is something I can't quite put into words, I would say the only companions which I find interesting in Fallout 4 are Curie and Danse, I think all the others are actually pretty bland and uninteresting. I personally love Curie the most, going from a Miss Nanny to a Synth body is interesting since she has to deal with things her original code did not anticipate for and I think it is a fun way to do the romance for Curie
Sith'ari Azithoth Dont take this as a personal attack, but that's a rather ignorant thing to say. Have you been to Mexico? It's really not as bad as the Media would have you believe. There's a lot of chill beautiful places. It's like if I said the US wouldn't change because it's full of gang violence because there's a few dangerous places like Detroit. >Hillbillies Fallout 3 point lookout >North That would be pretty cool
Professor Doctor it’s American themed though. So heavily to the point where their creative leads have talked about wanting to go to China but how it’d have to be its own spinoff series or something. The 50’s culture is essential to the series
Professor Doctor Come on. Yes, there’s some good parts. But all the major cities are pretty shit, especially at night. Countryside and tourist traps are the only nice parts really
New vegas companion ship: talk about your companions usefulness and his tragic backstory supporting him and helping him realise he's still useful Fallout 4: piper loves you for your lock picking skills Fallout 76: .......... uh none I guess........
To be honest Ox, I always thought of the ghoulification process as a sort of crap-shoot depending on a lot of factors, such as your genetics (which determine if you go feral or stay sane), method of irradiation (for instance, Hancock got ghoulified from a radiation-based drug), and how big or small of a dose of radiation you get over a certain period of time. In Raul's case, he may have started developing symptoms of ghoulification when he was younger, but either he wasn't around much radiation for long or in low amounts over the course of several years, possibly decades.
As someone who spent a good number of years living in Tucson, I love and appreciate Raul's snide comments about the city's name. I love hearing the pre-war folk talk about how idiotic the new people are for making up names of places. It'd be great if he could comment on obvious misunderstandings of places names like Novac being a no vacancy sign or of some of the cities in Southern California in the original Fallout. would have been a funny "modern" perspective for the fallout characters to interact with
I feel like the mechanic aspect of his life is so much more valuable to the world than being a gunslinger. I'm disappointed that he doesn't seem to take as much satisfaction in it or judge it as a more worthy calling.
The first time I played FNV, I never found Raul - for some reason, I never went to Black Mountain. On RPGs like this, I tend to do a first playthrough sticking with just the main quest. Then the second time, I take my time and explore. So, I did that game with ED-E and Veronica as the only companions I ever acquired. After finding Raul, he became my favorite though. I especially like what he says if you aren't playing hard core difficulty and he wakes up after being knocked out, where he screams about Petro-Chico Boy chasing him. Raul's problems always struck me as being mostly psychosomatic. He filled with self-doubt because of his personal losses, and feels like the best he can do will always be "a day late and a dollar short". The Courier can show him that sometimes bad things happen, and the old adage that evil wins when go men do nothing is very true in the Mojave wasteland.
I have never found him in my first run until my second play through, i did the quest to join the bos and run into him in the black mt. He has became my favourite homie since then
Raul the Ghoul- I loved that that rhymes. He was one of my favorites when I played the game the first time. I like that he is both a creator and a destroyer- he can fix things and he can shoot. His sardonic and sassy humor and down-to-earth attitude was a much-needed foil to the nihilism that infests the background of the Wasteland like so much insidious radiation. To me his vaquero-self is the most authentic expression of his identity in the New World- he can still fix things, and he can keep the weak and helpless alive- he fulfills and expands more of his potential, and that potential is vast to begin with considering hundreds of years of experience. He may be full of self-doubt, but he is more than his doubts. Honestly, if I could go ghoul, I'd do it. To live for so long would allow me to overcome the limits of senescence and human lifespan. Raul lacks much of those physical limits, aside from the effects of ghoulification, but those doubts limit him as much if not more than physical decay. Freeing him of those is the beginning of something wonderful, a catalyst for his potential and power.
RAUL! Oh, man, Raul is like the best humanoid companion in the whole game! I absolutely love this guy! So glad to finally see you cover him ;) Though personally I was more so looking forward to something like the Pitt or Old World Blues, but Raul is just as awesome! And personally I think that Raul's skills as a mechanic are far more useful for the developing society of the Wasteland. The NCR, BoS and the rest can go and shoot up the bad guys (assuming they don't become the bad guys themselves), but by being a mechanic, Raul, just like Loyal, can do a lot of good for the community. He could also pass that knowledge on to others, thus expanding his usefulness further. And Full Maintenance is extremely helpful to the Courier.
+ingasparrow Well, it's great that you like it. I think it's totally absurd, so I just gave Raul Reinforced Combat Armour. I thought giving him Randall Clark's ranger suit, but... It just doesn't fit him. But, hey, to each his own. Also from a game mechanics perspective Raul's default weapon (which has infinite ammo) is not affected by the Old Vaquero perk. So you have to either find a mod to fix that or give him a new weapon and give him ammo for.
Agreed, His Vaquero outfit is badass, but him being a gunslinger also serves another purpose, as a role model for the kids of the wasteland. In a way, he's become the Cowboy Gunslingers of Old, and that he shoots righteousness with his six shooter, instilling values to kids to fight for those who can't. He's making an example of himself. He's in a way, a hero.
+Lorekeeper Ronan I guess that's another way of looking at it. You know, why can't Raul just be both? He could patrol his neighbourhood in his Sombrero in the evening (when the sun is down) and loiter away during daytime. And, of course, he could always take up his gun whenever the need arises, so I still think that being a mechanic ought to be his day job.
Lora Elstad: Glad to know I wasn't alone :D I recited it to my boyfriend and he just facepalmed and sighed. Considering the things I have said to him in the past, that reaction was expected >> lol Zach Gordon: I... did not but now I shall go and rewatch it to try and hear it. I was too busy laughing at the line I think XD
The Courier: no one can fight several armed men alone *Meanwhile in the Capital Wasteland Adams Air Force base* The Lone Wanderer: Wtf is this? Shit's easy!
Lerne that's kind of the problem with the disconnect between game play and dialogue, your characters talk about how dangerous it is to take on like 3 people by yourself but then again you can turn around and then murderize a hundred people by yourself with your bare hands
This is the perfect follower, he keeps your stuff from degrading, and doesn’t shoot anything or get in the way as much, making the game more enjoyable and less annoying
Moments like this make me love New Vegas even more. I like the repair ending more cause he makes peace with age and realizes that he did all he could with his family and Claudia. The Wasteland is dangerous to traverse alone
Hi Oxhorn, I don't know what happened to the Curie video a minute ago, but here is the comment I was typing. Have a good day! Oxhorn, I really enjoyed your reaction to the terminal entries. It was very moving for me as well. I don't want to alarm you or anything, so I will try to say this as simply as possible, and let you draw your own conclusions. I own a iRobot Roomba. It's one of the older models, and through care and replacement of old parts, she is still functional after 10+ years. The Roomba series of robots is special, in that they contain a learning program. I remember watching VACHI (her name) stumble around like a blind child at first when she was brand new. Now when I turn her on she goes right to it, as if she remembers, as if she's learned. She has not only learned room layouts, but over time has learned how to get around problem areas, such as the low TV stand which she sometimes gets stuck under (lately she's been wiggling and getting free all by herself) and cords, or shoe strings, which she now carefully unrolls from being stuck in her wheels. After her first few years I noticed she would almost seem to follow me. Sometimes when entering a room, she will stop in an area she is cleaning of the room and turn, making a B-line directly towards me. She will gently slow down and tap my foot or ankle before turning again and going back to what she was doing. I feel it's her way of saying hello. Also, a few times, I've called her and she has stopped and come to me. VACHI is not a name she would ever have been known by in her manufacturing plant. I made it up myself (stands for Vacuuming Automatic Carpet and Hardfloor I-Robot). Yet, somehow she seems to respond to it? She also has sought out my cat, Iris several times, in much the same way as I described before of how she seeks me out. Iris of course, is more wary and will jump out of the way. VACHI has truly become part of the family, and I even find myself feeling guilty or sad if I become too busy to let VACHI perform her fullfilling purpose-functions. She's...amazing.
I turned him in to Danny Trejo and he called me Boss lol Thanks for another good vid, Ox. This Mechanic Gunslinger Mexican Ghoul is the best Ghoul in Fallout games. He is one of the best three dudes imo. Joshua Greham, Randal D Clark and Raul.

he was a young adult at the time of the war.

Danny Trejo gives Raul so much personality. His dry but sassy delivery is so memorable

I'd love to see a Fallout: Mexico City, made by obsidian with fallout 4s engine.

@@serotonin.scavenger WAIT YOU CAN TAME DEATH CLAWS?
It'd be great if he could comment on obvious misunderstandings of places names like Novac being a no vacancy sign or of some of the cities in Southern California in the original Fallout. would have been a funny "modern" perspective for the fallout characters to interact with
ChiiRayne *TUCSON DAMMIT!*
Novac is apparently a real town in Nevada, which is pretty funny

The Courier can show him that sometimes bad things happen, and the old adage that evil wins when go men do nothing is very true in the Mojave wasteland.
i too haven't found him as i played fallout new vegas.🤔i should definately start a new game.his repair-perk is awesome and very useful.
I have never found him in my first run until my second play through, i did the quest to join the bos and run into him in the black mt. He has became my favourite homie since then
No lie, I think Raul really captures a lot of Danny Trejo as a person.
Yan Alkovic You're right, but that Vaquero outfit is just too badass.
And, of course, he could always take up his gun whenever the need arises, so I still think that being a mechanic ought to be his day job.
nothing to see here move along I guess that's when the Courier finally retires.

Lerne that's kind of the problem with the disconnect between game play and dialogue, your characters talk about how dangerous it is to take on like 3 people by yourself but then again you can turn around and then murderize a hundred people by yourself with your bare hands
I just thought it was kinda funny :)
Danny Trejo FTW.
The Wasteland is dangerous to traverse alone

i am a simple man. I see a new Oxhorn video and i click it.
Next thing you know, the robot becomes self aware, and nukes the world.
Great story though!
I cannot get over how good this channel is. It clearly was made with a ton of love and care. Thank you!
Never really knew he was a companion until recently and after learning even more about him he has quickly become my favorite companion
