The Unwritten Rules of Guild Wars 2

- A couple weeks ago, I asked you to send me unwritten rules of Guild Wars 2! The kinda rules where.. it can be considered rude if you break them, but they're also not really written down anywhere? Today, we go through a whole bunch of these, and we'll make sure you'll never accidentally be rude 😊

Please please please collab with the wasp more, I am wheezing from laughter
"Wasp new to Tyria stream!" XD
Not Mukluk here throwing jabs at Lara 🤣
Don't think the wasp survived the encounter with the unhinged pyroma- Professional elementalist.
at least Laranity was on Virtuoso, so no dps loss during auto-attacks ;_;
My personal unwritten rule number one is.
"Rezz a stranger when you see them laying around in the open world." If they are afk you at least did your basic good deed and it's their problem now. Everybody else usually is super thankful about it and might consider rezzing other strangers when they encounter them too. Therefore increasing the overall wholesomeness of the GW2 community even further.
As for my second rule, don't be a dick.
I love how game mechanics support this "rez a stranger" thing, giving you xp for rez. At first you're motivated by "free xp", and then it becomes a good habit.
Yes, absolutely. Sometimes when people rez me it's whatever, but 1/10 times they are really saving my butt!
Back in the olden days when armour broke from getting killed, it was kinda fun to rez people AFK-ing in an unsafe area, they'd end up half naked by the time they returned XD
@@Ralesk Oh boy I remember that. Kinda evil but still funny
Always refer to the Labyrinthine Horror as Steve. 🙂
Totally!
Also the Plague Carrier Abomination in Amber Lane
GW2, where jumping and how frantically you do it around a person can mean allsorts: Thank you, this way to something interesting, hi friend, fight me, dont fight me"
This will be an issue with me.... i have a space bar ocd.... i jump constantly. back from the 2004 wow days
*me spastically jumping to indicate i have mesm portal device*
Don't deploy a merchant on the jumping puzzle chest.
DO deploy a portal or aviator box on the JP chest.
Don't deploy those on crafting stations or regular merchant NPCs either. If you have one of those auto-summon items don't walk INSIDE the existing NPCs.
Yes! This should have been one of the first things in this video. Don't be a troll, fight the juveniles urges.
Only thing i do "that" is with unlimited bday cakes on my altpark that extra bit of magic find helps in the long haul ❤️
When you are doing a jumping puzzle around other players, remember to turn off mini pets, ranger pets, mechs, wings, and other distracting effects that make it hard for other players to see where to go.
If you know the jumping puzzle, leave your leggie on to make a trail people can follow.
I just portal them if the jp lets me
Also dont forget to turn off Norns and Charrs so my Asura at least can see her self! =P
Y'all complimenting people on their fashion is so amazing and important I'm serious. Lately if I really love someones look I've been sending a gold or two along with a short message of what I liked about it in the mail and I always ALWAYS get at least a short thank you back. Sometimes you'll for real genuinely make someones day, I've gotten so many nice replies it makes me so happy every single time.
My favorite interaction to date though was seeing someone rocking THE most big, bright, and colorful charr I could imagine and somehow pulling it off without it being overbearing or hard to look at. I sent them some gold and a comment praising their use of color and they sent back a nice thank you with the message "enjoy friendship leeks" and 250 leeks that will stay in my mail box forever.
My fav unwritten rule from back in the old dailies' time: If the wvw veteran is daily, the people waiting there are off limits. Attack them, and you will be jumped by 2 servers, while your allies will just stand there.
This was my favourite thing to see in WvW -- enemies standing around waiting to get one hit on the Vet Warg!
I wish there were more honorable moments like this in WvW.
This at times we had people of all the servers just waiting, then for example a random green attacked and blue and red jumped him while the other greens are like "you deserve this" and just watch him get zerked before peace returns 😂
with the new wvw weeklies, i had nice encounters flipping ruins back and forth without one attacking the other.
on the other hand i was killed while kneeling
-thank people when they drop food/buffs
The jumping thing is hilarious to me. In this game many people will be about as friendly and helpful as they can possibly be... without typing in chat. They'll say "hi", "thanks for the rez", or "yipee! we killed that boss!" without typing anything. It's the perfect game for people who can't decide if they're introverts or extroverts.
Starting a jump wave in the racing waiting area is the best thing every. Just watching 15 beetles, raptors or jackals bouncing in time is so good.
“Don’t be shy to ask for help with content because chances are someone else needs it too”
Sooo much this. I play on NA server in pacific time zone, and am often on late at night when it’s somewhat quiet compared to peak hours.
I’ve been working on Season of the Dragon to get my legendary amulet and only needed the Jade Maw meta event to finish Bloodstone Fen. Problem is, the bosses are pretty tough and the map seemed dead. Well, I asked in map chat and turns out another player needed it too. They threw on a commander tag and we managed to complete the whole meta with a ragtag group of 6 or 7 people. I was playing a DPS daredevil and even I was throwing down shadow refuge to help cover downed players and help revive before going all the way dead. It felt like a genuine accomplishment when we beat it and it might not even have happened if I hadn’t simply asked in map chat.
@illmattic024, I play at the same odd hours you just mentioned, and I’m always looking for someone who wants to work on Achievements, or just wants company while playing, so send me an in game mail, or whisper to see if I’m online, the next time you’re playing late. One of my main characters is named Ahkima Gear Grinder.
Teapot once said, and I've repeated this myself; if you are dps and someone goes down, and you don't immediately press F, you're trolling.
What is f
@@delfinal.l.v4869 the default keybind for "interact"- in this case, for "revive"
@@delfinal.l.v4869 It's the default interact button. "Revive [F]" pops up on your screen if you are close to someone that goes down. Pressing the button in [ ] will revive them.
@@delfinal.l.v4869the interact button, so in this case it would help a downed player get up again
@@delfinal.l.v4869 usually it's the standard interaction key, therefore rezzing from downstate in this context
"If the Commander Jumps of a Cliff, the squad follows"
Oh yes, i remember tagging up for Drizzlewood once, i went a little bit off way just to get a PoI that i missed and half of the squad followed me xD
(Also 0:34 A Music Guild tries Legendary Temple of Febe coming soon :D ? )
Dont listen to Lara, always gimme stuff
Here's a hug 🫂💕
Players always have to respond to „Thats quality armor“
"Thanks!"
"Thanks!"
Take a look!
Thanks
Thank you so much!
for wvw the advice "never use basic siege blueprints" is wrong. basic shield gen blueprint doesn't share a cooldown with superior/guild shield gen, meaning one person can operate two shield gens to have double the shield time.
also flame ram has a skill that gives 50% damage reduc for 10 seconds to 50 people, which is massive in a zerg so building that in certain situations is important.
basic siege can also be used as a cheap way to block the screen. for example say you have climbed up a jumping puzzle-like area and you're catapulting a tower from there, and the enemies want to climb up to fight you. by dropping siege on the edge of a jump, it becomes much harder for them to know where the edge is causing them to fall.
lastly you can use basic siege to psychologically mess with the enemy, for example you can stall an enemy zerg who is clearing out the siege in inner by throwing more siege right in front of them, and surprisingly they will just keep following the trail of siege you throw for a long time almost like you're dropping bits of cheese in front of a mouse. after around 5-10 siege they will realize you're trolling them, then go attack the lord. at that point you can drop the real siege you're trying to build like a catapult, and they won't react to it because they think you're just throwing random siege still.
You forgot about the most important unwritten rule:
Oysters in guild bank
@chilidaemon7113 wait is that bad to put them in guild bank or good?
@@wallacetrottier3654 The guild bank oysters are always good. Especially when they are in the Lara Land guild bank.
@@StationOfbarny You might even get a special guild rank if you do it enough!
Flip out whenever someone so much as mentions pocket raptors in chat
Imagine logging in for the first time and there is 100 random people just standing there lol.
Totally get the vibes. I played Jade Dynasty and spent a lot of time at daily bamboo zone just to help/chill
The last one about asking for help, I 100% agree with that one. I needed help with this bounty that I had to beat to get my Griffon, and I asked for help. This random person actually got the whole map to help me out.
Commanders don't get any practical benefits for leading a squad in pve. Say thank you when they work hard to make sure everyone suceeds! If you have a ton of gold you can even mail them a few as a tip, although no commander will ever expect that.
Thank you!!! I feel so appreciated 🥹
I'll usually have at least one person thank me but out of my years of commanding, I think I've only had 3 people actually give me a tip. My favorite time was when I was just leading a HP farm in HoT and most of them were noobs. I loved them, it was like taking care of babies in the best possible way. And when we were done after several hours, one of them sent me 2g and a heartfelt thank you letter, I nearly passed away from my heart growing 5 sizes. I still talk to 2 of them to this day, noobs are so precious 🥰
The real unwritten rule is to completely ignore map chat and say chat when doing unfamiliar content and completely ignore it
Actually after 300 hours I need a video like this since I'm starting to do a lot, A LOT of content that is not just story
When someone mentions Pocket Raptors, start going ballistic
pocket raptors and rolling devils, the bane of my auric basin experience.
I dunno if this counts as a rule or just not being rude.
DO NOT afk at events or areas where events may spawn. The event scaling in gw2 is atrocious, probably 100% per player. It is especially bad at farming points, so yeah, people who go to specific locations to grab specific things, please be adequate and gtfo when you're done. I've seen 83lvl elites at first Pact outpost event because of the mama wywern farmers way too many times by now...
Also, do leave the party/squad when you leave the game, don't just alt+f4. The system considers you might just get disconnected and keeps your dead body in so you literally force people to kick it.
Never attack someone in a "Choya" tonic in WvW. They are being friendly even while on enemy server.
You can't do the Meta AB without shouting PICNIC at least once.
also tt, always picnic
Best GW2 content creator! She really plays this game.
no offense to laranity, she's great, but there's only 1 person who gets that title and it's the one and only Wooden Potatoes
@@marinhrabric6162 Guild Wars 2 community is very fortunate to have several great content creators!
@@marinhrabric6162 Wooden Potatoes was, but he’s MIA, doesn’t really play the game anymore.
@@traveling.down.the.road56 what do you mean MIA? Absolutely wrong. He's making videos all the time. He just made a video recently about the reveal of the new expansion. Before that he played through Soto. It's just that he takes breakes sometimes. That's ok. He's a person, he has a life. He doesn't have to do UA-cam 24/7. Sometimes people get tired. He also likes to play other games from time to time. That's fine too. Every possible release of content in gw2 he covers thoroughly every time. In fact in a recent video he said he doesn't plan on stopping playing gw2 or making videos of gw2 any time soon, so your claim is completely false.
@@marinhrabric6162 Wow! Defensive and a little aggressive. Must have struck a nerve.
0:55 I WAS THERE (and then I was down shortly after xD)
Necros in GW2 are Tyria's Goths/Punks/Moshers: we look scary but we're nice people! We just think we can fix Scarlet Briar (by taking her to a Metal Legion concert).
Another pro-tip with respawning in metas-if you have access to the jade bot waypoint mastery, set it up before a meta starts! That way you can respawn faster into the fray if it's safe (depending on the meta).
Also make sure to always picnic during the Auric Basin meta. It's just a trial of passage. And do the Can-"Can You Not?" throughout the entirety of the Heart of Thorns (thanks for that Noxxi).
I'm so new to the game I couldn't understand a single thing of this comment 🫠
@@delfinal.l.v4869 In the End of Dragons expansion, you can get the ability to create a single-use private waypoint wherever you want. It goes on cooldown for ten minutes after you teleport to it, but hey, it's still one insta-rez per open-world boss fight.
In Auric Basin, four different teams have to coordinate their timing in four different minigames in order to win. If one group races ahead and the others can't catch up, everyone resets. For some reason people typing "PANIC!" in chat when that happened turned into typing "PICNIC!"... At least, I think that's the origin? HoT released a long time ago, I might be misremembering.
Noxxi's can can can you not video is on youtube. "GW2 HoT Parody: Heart of Can Can... you not?..."
With the new fashion inspect I love doing metas and just inspecting everyone and then picking a "winner" and whispering them that they got the best drip in the squad. :D
One unwritten rule i didn't see- when on your skyscale, do not hover over other players. Go max height or use another mount.
This is so true! A lot of time half of my screen gets covered with flapping skyscale, which is annoying.
I hate it when the skyscales kick up dust.
Normal siege, or as I often call it, *Walmart Siege*; only use Superior or Guild siege please. 🤣🤣 Also, jumping up and down in front of someone is also the universal sign of "Hello!! Happy to see you!". 🥰🥰
I'm with u on TeamBraham! 😂😂😂😂
just a couple of days ago someone whispered me complimenting my fashion, totally made my day.
If someone dropped food, banners and utlity items. Link them on map for everyone to have the effects. Especially on WvW and preparing for Meta or World boss event.
Great video! I agree with the "slash bow" for dueling in WvW and also never attack a WvW player in frog form or snowball!
My Unwritten rule is if you see a player, new player especially with no Mastery Points by their name in a Low-Level Zone doing a Hero Point, give them some Boons and assist, but don't attack the HP Miniboss until you see the player about to die so that they can get a feel for the combat, if they do die then sweep the HP Boss and revive them so they get the point and maybe give them some tips, most importantly /bow and wish them goodluck!
Another WvW unwritten rule: if people are camping at the veteran spawn, just be nice and only attack the Warg or whatever it is they're waiting for.
I don't get wasps on the mouse pad, just a cat who wants to play or sleep right there. And he's taken years to be overtly open, so I dont want to discourage it much.
DON'T put annoying stuff you can click like merchants, food, aviator box and so on, on chests or workstations or other important things everyone else wants to click on.
can you imagine if they added the ArenaNet fence that is in lion's arch into that unofficial dueling area in WvW? 5:34 maybe one day🙇
2:50 I would say that's a relic of the time when the Game was completely new and everyone was coming from gw1. We we're SO Happy that we could finally jump that most did this all the time Just because we could. Dann coming from GW1 that was an actual selling point
The rule where you don't pick up the weapon of ele's is difficult since your ele is being in downstate all the time so you press f constantly 😜
if braham has zero fans i am dead. mans was like 18 when his mom died in front of him bro i don't blame him at all for acting how he did in season 3. also it's kinda fun having an "ally" who doesn't fawn all over you the whole time
If you join someone's group just so you can TP to Friend to get to where they are (such as at the treasure chest at the end of a jumping puzzle) remember to tip them,
Do not attack frog tonic'd players in WvW - THIS IS A WAR CRIME
My Unwritten Rule:
* Having 24-30 characters, 1 for each race, armor class and gender (Females of Charr and Asura share same armor as their male counterpart).
* Having each pieces of armor being different from each other, meaning no pieces share the same set. All unique.
* If one of my characters is using a piece, then no one else of my characters uses that piece, unless it looks different with their gender counterpart. Example being Carapace, Winged, etc.
Oh I remember one day when the Steam launch happened and a group of vets were waiting in Queensdale. This one newer player came up to us and asked what was going on, why were there so many people gathered. This guild group of 3 people approached them and all said in caps "WE'RE HERE TO HELP YOU NEW PLAYER!! WELCOME!!" All they responded with was "umm..." and then the four of them ran off together. It was hilarious to see. I really hope it gave a good first impression for that player as to the kind of community GW2 has.
They came on a bit strong, but from a humor's standpoint, but their hearts were in the right spot.
When GW2 started, dying at large meta events and respawning would keep you from getting rewards until you got back within meta range.
You better believe I still have PTSD from losing that loot and stay dead until rezzed to this day.
One thing I wish that was an unwritten rule is that if you have no experience on a Strike CM in the "experienced" category and you fuck up then keeping you is toxic as that makes way more people have a bad experience than keeping you in to avoid you having a bad experience.
A lot of the things people think are toxic are toxic just in a different way than they imagine. Sating their narcissistic ego over the experience of eight other people is toxic.
small correction, the pots ALWAYS make a big difference and should be considered mandatory t3 and upwards
spamming emergency waypoint on chat in wvw
Question, is it an unwritten rule to throw siege or not to on dead enemy players in WvW? Cause I see it more often then not
All of this is so true! :) Praise Joko!
Great video gamer 😎👍
And then there's the Rule that's summarizes the Essence of the Game:
No matter WHICH char/profession you FINALLY get finished to your preferences, rest assured, ANET WILL NERF IT!!!!!
(over 17 chars so far :() LOL :) It Appears that HIZEN was right when he proclaimed the ONLY exception to this Rule-
Anet ALWAYS protects one or more flavors of Guardian. Someone in AUTHORITY "has a Thing" for that class........
My squad had a few "who stole the damn fgs" moments last clear, conjure stealing is definitely still relevant!
WvW edition: Don't throw siege if there is a tag, if you want to contribute you can mail it to the tag. 1,1,1 Dolyaks let other people get a hit in. See an enemy zerg or a t3 under attack, call it out in map or team chat. Don't take the Dragon Banner on a defense unless you know what you are doing. Don't use the siege if you don't have some ability points in siege might. Last of all do not engage with the crazies in team chat, just block and move on.
Why does Lara sound like Donald THE Duck?
To be honest some of the stuff you pointed out made me... emotional. Am I broken? Did I get to attached to the game? 😭
6:50 Oh god yes. I run dagger mirage because there's never enough CC, but even with my build I can only shave off about half of Sorrow's breakbar on my own before it locks again. Come on people, _one player_ should _not_ be 95% of the CC in the Convergence. No matter _what_ their build is.
When joining a group for instance content, always make sure your playing style aligns with those you are playing with. Everything else is toxic. If you're looking to clear content as fast as possible but join a group that might be inexperienced, you are not allowed to complain about them wasting time, wiping, doing an achievement, or watching cutscenes in a dungeon. In a group with medium experience, you shouldn't expect super fast clears but you should also focus on the clear itself and not take detours. If you are inexperienced, you should not ever expect an experienced group to carry, explain or teach you. Wanna play a weird build? Ask the group if it's fine with that if it'll affect them (like not bringing stability on certain fights and letting others take care of it). Just always communicate if you know things might not be quite clear, you and everyone else will be happier for it.
@LARANITY : PVE BLEH !
As a noob and hearing about DPS and Healer. That just makes me chuckle. There's no dps, healer or tank. It's a healing dps, tanking damage dealer, tanking healer and dps with extra steps.
But hearing the roles I just image a single class. We need a DPS- Firebrand F1 "Hi". We need a tank- Firebrand F3 "Hola". We need a healer- Firebrand F2 "Bonjour".
So many classes can just instantly switch and be any role. Revenant can just switch legends to the centaur and dragon if Herald and you got a support. Or dwarf of not Herald.
But I'm just scared to death over being social. Just being invited to a party makes my heart race and a friend request is an anxiety attack.
So when I got 3 guild invites I panicked. I will never loose my PTSD from reading one guild description over their rules of being on very long, report absences period and such.
I am NOT committed to a god damn schedule or any kind of expectations to a game I casually play on and off. It's like playing casual TF2 and suddenly they tell you to wake up early in the morning for a rep on their strategy for a ranked leader board season.
I still keep getting this one guild invite every time I login that I keep having to press ignore. Why is it popping up every time?!
"DONT YOU DARE USE MY CONJURE"
but..but..but FIRE BIGSWORD GO SWOOSH! sry i cant help it : (
Okay, with fashion I didn't know - curious, but why not ^^. Though I found myself next to a player, and another player commented on the other's style - foolish me, I thought she? was mocking me (you know, wearing the same 80 lvl rags).
expect Kindness but not Patience. If someone starts writing in chat trying to explain a fractal mechanic. Listen to them and focus on that not on your rotation! This only counts when the person explaining did not say it is a newbi/all welcome run. AND DONT JOIN T3 or even T2 AND HIGHER IF YOU DONT KNOW THE FRACS. Learn them in T1
Don't camp around an enemy starting area in WvW to kill the newbies... it's rude and scares new players away.
Im whispering every single one that has the Facet of prisms and boundless light title because its such an amazing feat and shows real dedication and lots of gold but anyone who can do the JPs and events over and over again for every single variant is the true Chad of GW2
Never stop the Brahm hate. Brahm, being the champion of the dragon of FIRE can still be affected by burning. A trash destroyer is immune to fire, the CHAMPION of fire is not. That's how much of a failure Brahm is. Eir should have swallowed Brahm.
Wait people hate Braham? Why?! 😧 I know he did some... questionable things, but for spoiler purposes, I will just say he was going through A LOT.
Like... imagine asking for a single burger and some fries, then someone dumps 500 Big Macs on you WITH NO DRINK and says "Now eat this in 5 hours or you are trash and no one loves you"
Yeah, he was going through it 😂
i will never respect dueling area in wvw, ... they randomly join fights, or kill bypassing people.. why should i respect it if they never respect it themsleves.
What about, players in PVP who are ready but dont click the READY button and make everyone wait out the timer to begin the match. When people do that, I target them the entire match.
I don't know if this is as relevant since the chance to the Dailies, but if you're chasing events in a zone announce when you find one and link the closest Waypoint. Most likely there are others looking for events, too.
"Don't be shy to ask for help with content". Yeah! I can't count how many times [Wing]ies helped someone kill Corrupted Facet to unlock griffon!
The high mastery level people waiting in starter zones..Them there to "help" new players is just a mask. Pretty sure everyone knows they are there to just show off and hopefully get a few scraps of praise from people that dont have knowledge or context. Just like the wacko's that stand in those squares all day in DR doing nothing.
Normal siege blueprints have their uses. Superior blueprints cost more supply and guild blueprints tend to be expensive. Normal blueprints are useful for small groups that would require an extra supply run if they used superior, as decoys, or to throw on top of a dead foe to prevent them from seeing what's going on.
Also tip your commanders after good run, so they buy some drink and relax. :p
Tip if you ported to someone at the end of jumping puzzle (through lfg).
4:20
What I learned from playing strikes:
Everyone has a baby, and that baby will just happen to wake up directly after we finish IBS5
Everyone always gets visitors directly after IBS5
Everyone's boss always calls directly after IBS5
Same for Recs in fractals.
What did Braham do before that? Oh yeah, got a good character fridge for wasted character development and ANet gave him a new character with each LW season he was in before finally finding a good one in IBS that allowed for actual growth that he should have had many years prior! It was away too late at this point and he was just a waste of coming space that could have been used for something better.´, and we might have been able to avoid a good character being fridged.
Is your guild on NA or EU? just asking because maybe I will join it if you ever want more players. your videos are very useful too, thanks. i was gone from the game for many years but I am thinking about returning to it soon.
Keep your political rants out of /any chats. Believe it or not, but you're sharing a game with people all over the political isle in all corners of the globe. You're here to escape the real world, don't bring it in with you lol
3:48 on Drakkar Lake, we call this "doing the Baba" 😂
It's named after one of our most active commanders, Baba Jetu of the guild DORN, who has a bit of a reputation to do this ^^
Braham - I'm playing the story now, and he's annoying! I don't hate him (yet), but he is pretty damn annoying.
"dodge is optional"
instruction was unclear! my daredevil was so squishy i died early 🤣
One time i had to run away from a raid cuz we got an earthquake warning... And one other time due to a fire alarm triggering lol
Correction: If someone mains an Elementalist, 5% chance they are the best players in the game, 95% chance they are the worst player in the game.
Helping noobs - Save them if needed, but don't go all out on whatever they're fighting. They're in the spawn areas to learn and it's good for their egos to get the kill.
don't be childish in wvw, when you lose the castle. and the winning team try to get to it while dodging you attacking them , due to you being sore losers. and stop the group of people hiding in a supply area so annoying
Ok that jump when someone is jumping comment is so weird. It's in our DNA, we all do that.
People in this game are very friendly*
* if you don't play pvp, wvw, fractals and raids
You didn't include the rule which gave you this video idea D:
In GW2 we don't panic. We picnic!
I'm definitely guilty of forgetting to use Food/Utilities in Fractal CMs.
2:08 god...i fucking hated it. I started when it launched on Steam and constantly got whispers
Hahah thanks for this vid. I stopped playing awhile ago but this brougth back memories hhaha
I just started playing and I don't know what most of these are but I enjoyed watching
Do not expect the game to teach you how to play the game.
Fortunately, there's an extensive wiki.
During Octovine meta in Tarir always remember to PANIC!
Couldnt agree more with Tiffy, i hate when they do full reaper rotation on a treasure mushroom! >:c
.... is it bad, that i learnd how to use dodge after like 1 year of beeing lvl 80? XD
