I just picked up this game about a month ago as I don't really have anything to do anymore as I was admitted to the hospital because of my stage 3 ovarian cancer im 17 yrs old, been playing on my laptop since kept me busy and made me not think of my current situation ^^ currently lvl 70 been wanting to sell my toy figurines to buy my first expansion but I honestly don't think I can play it anymore my treatments keeps on getting worse and painful. I used to watch your videos silently and beginner guides along the way and this time decided to give my subs and like since you seem really passionate about this game
The timing with "Guild Wars 3" being the buzzword! 😂 (To any newer players, don't take it seriously! GW2 is here for the long run and never too late to start!) As for this guide, by far the BEST such guide ever produced!! The information clarity, the presentation, and of course the unique Laranity style being the cherry on top! 👏🤩
This is one of the best beginner guides in any video game I've ever seen! You: - covered the stuff that's ACTUALLY important - mentioned what they don't have to worry/stress about (like races and servers) - didn't over explain anything (not overwhelming with information, and still left some room for discovery) Well done Lara! Definitely sharing this with my friend.
Talk about a video posted at the perfect time. Started playing the game recently and I'm fairly new to MMOs. I'm at level 29 and its fun but I feel like there's so much to learn and see. Its definitely fun so far and your videos have helped!
Another nice facet of a lot of dynamic events is there's a good chance it'll help fill nearby hearts so that's also a plus! I've also always loved the "/wiki" command, wish that feature were in other games at times
I played this literally on release for a good month, before wow pulled me back. And now over a decade later, this video gave me the itch to get in again🙇♂️
I'm planning on playing guild war 2, but after watching this video... I've decided to watch more of your content in the meantime. This guide is more engaging, informative, and entertaining that I've seen in a long time. To be honest, hearing you talk is intoxicating. There, I said what everyone else is thinking. I'll drop a like for this vid and sub for more to come. Thank you for such an awesome guide. ❤
As a refugee hiding from WoW endgame pre War Within, I appreciate this video. I'm actually loving GW2. The dynamic events and the community are really nice.
I have a level 80 character, about 35 hours played so far and I literally have no idea wtf im doing so this helps. Honestly all I did was a bunch of heart quests and dungeons. Never been much of a story guy so im glad I didnt have to do the story, even tho I prob should at some point lol
Thanks a lot, I played Guild Wars 2 for the last time 10 years ago and I'm starting from scratch as a newcomer. My English is so very good but your videos are very easy to understand and detailed even for me as a non-English speaker. Thank you very much and keep up the good work. Greetings from Germany.
Always good to see a video from you Laranity! As someone who only joined the game last year, I'm impressed by how much this review takes into account things that will be brand new/unknown for a fresh player (but become second nature/obvious as you play)
im still pretty new, but started getting into it more and learning more in depth things, the biggest struggle I have is keeping track of all the different items, vendors, events and currencies from all the different expansions... that and figuring out what is going on through all the effects covering my screen in big groups
I have the game downloading in the back while I watch this. Thank you so much! Edit: just wanted to note that, your a really good teacher. And also I like your accent lolol. Awesome work with these videos!
The only + for Steam launcher is being able to find it and appearing online to Steam, otherwise the affil links, codes, and sales mean the other launcher is far better. (I say this as a Steam player, lol.)
the best about this game is i can pick any profession and run a healer, dps or tank build and i like that even though i mainly like to play dps/tank in games, but my first/main character is always gonna be myself (roleplay wise) and then others i try to make a character with his own lore and try to be the character instead of me trying to be immersed as myself in the game
Nice video after I lost my account a few years ago I now started again and already thinking of buying it a new. Even so it always makes me sad that my fav sylvari with his nevermore will be alone forever. I also found fun again after that bad ending I had with my last account. And since many things changed ever since, I'm very thankful for a guide for newer players.
Great video, I bought the first and second dlcs after playing the game for a bit because I really liked it and playing without mount is horrible lol Ty for the guide, I knew most things but you taught me few new ones as well :)
Sylvari's Sylvan hound racial skill is by far the best free damaging skill you can use in end game fractals (especially condi!) with reset through Mistlock so you can bring the Sylvan hound into the fights while still having access to any of your other elite skill, so not all races are equal
Bonus advice : go to settings, disable screenshake and establish a shortcut for action camera on/off. screenshake will just serve to get you motion sickness, and the large battles will be chaotic enough without it... Action camera turn the literal drag of the screen to turn into a third person game, much more fluid ! but you still want quick access to your cursor to navigate menus, hence prioritizing the on/off shortcut over the other options to manage action camera.
I love this game so much. It however is very overwhelming because I've never played an mmo before and there are so many mechanisms in there lol. Thanks for the guides
Laranity is the BEST!!! I watch her stream at least four times a week and am always entertained. Even though I only pick up on about 5% of what they're talking about 'cause I'm a total noob. I think I've watched her Twitch stream longer than I've actually played the game....
honstly, I tried to get into GW2 twice and it was overwhelming both times, this guide has fixed any worries i had about the game, thank you laranity, I think at some point ill give GW2 a proper go and i think ill stick to it this time
This video was released exactly just when I started playing😂 thank you this rly helped I wanted to just get a op weapon but now I realised I don't need that until max level
@6:50 - Oh, so it's NOT because I'm utterly useless at the game that I keep failing the Gendarren Fields jumping puzzle? :P Tried 8 or 9 times over 3 sessions yesterday and kept getting frustrating and quitting at the point where you jump off the side of the boat onto a steam vent and then have to cross the brown pillars underneath it. :/
Recently , ive had a hunger for MMORPGs and stumbled on this . Ive heard of this game before but passed it off as a Fake game that you see on Pop-ups. I tried Wow and Final Fantasy 14, other MMORPGHs but i lowkey like this one. Ironically , it has everything i miss from Destiny 1-2 and interesting things. As of right now im having a blast and im so glad videos like this exist and by a full week I'll come back and give my thoughts on it But i deeply enjoy it as of right now
One of the best parts of GW2 and where they really nail the fun for players, is that they allow players to choose their role in a party based on what they enjoy doing instead of pigeonholing them into a role. If you want to be DPS, be DPS. I think I saw a chart where the different in the highest DPS profession and the lowest was only 8% or so difference. That's phenomenally close.
Not comepletely new but still learned a few things that'll surely help me out later. Still so much stuff to learn, and although there's a lot of guides it still feels like it's hard to get started on stuff. Just playing trough the content now on my new account. Gotta get that HOT weapon at the end.
Hi, there is no fight about loot and experience in GW2. If you help another player kill an enemy, both get experience and loot (mostly according to the damage against the foe). It does not diminish the chances of high reward for the involved players (it gives just more players a reward).
>but something that's really cool about GW2 is that all classes can play any role in the PvE endgame Ok, if you say so. [ rolls a Tank Elementalist Build ]
If I was a new player I wish someone told me this: Player stats are very simple to learn. While not necessary pre 80, it's still quite useful to understand them and clear a lot of questions about gear, buffs and traits as well as weapons you should use for leveling. Did you know there are ONLY two types of damage? Power (often combined with critical chance and critical damage) and condition (often combined with condition duration). Sometimes you mix the two. Some weapons and skills are design for a specific type of damage. When leveling you "usually" want to choose one or the other. Some of their names are weird but you can check on your character for what each mean (Power=Your strike damage(any not DoT damage), Condition Damage = any damage over time, Healing power=healing) (Precision=Crit chance) (Ferocity=Crit damage) (Toughness=Armor) (Vitality=Health) (Concertation=Boon duration) (Expertise=Condition Duration) You usually want to choose either Power/Crit or Condition/Condi duration for leveling, maybe some health and armor. Healing and Boon duration can safely be avoided when leveling and only become useful with a proper end game build. Again stats (attributes) are in the heart of any rpg. Gw2 stats are quite straightforward so you should visit the wiki and take a quick look.
2:00 There "is," but as you go into expansions it doesn't. The sylvari's personal story is the most relevant to the lore of GW2 (though that's mostly the beginning intro area). And you get special dialogue for being a sylvari while in the fractals, though it's underwhelming. The Asura's personal story (not the robot butler) is the second most relevant to the GW2 lore. Each "legion" the charr can choose to be gives special dialogue with specific NPC's and events. 3:30 Those willing to play GW2 F2P only have two character slots until a purchase of an expansion is made. There are many other limitations to playing F2P. 5:15 F2P players gain access to interacting with Hero Points after meeting a requirement (like having played for at least two weeks in game playtime). 15:55 i'm so glad you acknowledge F2P. Thank you. 16:30 There IS a difference between the two account types!! However, the differences are legal. Or as far as i know last i played. Playing F2P you risk losing your entire account progress if you ever lose your password. Last i played, they did not allow you to "get a new password" if your account is F2P. And they will not give you any account support. Similar to if your account gets hacked or stolen. When you purchase a GW2 expansion, you gain a special "code." Anet will do ANYTHING and everything for you to make sure you can enjoy playing GW2 as long as you have this code. Including if they lock your account for suspicious activity. 18:05 There are advantages to having access to the LW content that a player without such content just won't have. We'd be talking about the skyscale if it wasn't made obtainable via SoTa. The Roller Beetle mount is currently the only mount in the game that can only be acquirable via LW specifically LWS4. Aside from this, having access to the LW content also gives you access to the largest size bag size you can get in the game along with a "side quest" you have to do as part of an achievement for a "free" legendary amulet. You also gain access to multiple different places where you can acquire stat selectable ascended jewelry so your not limited to the RNG of fractals. Including an ascended grade aquabreather if your into that. There are also LW chapters that by the end rewards you with a 20 slot bag. My only other critique of your video is you do not explain the Karma currency, which can be used to purchase exotic grade gear among many other things. i find myself purchasing the Wolf-Tooth Trophy in the Bitterfrost Frontier, it's both sinister stats and account bound similar to ascended gear for 42k Karma. Hope this information was helpful.
Heya! Old gw2 player who recently returned to the game. And am absolutely loving your videos! I was wondering if you have an active guild atm that I could join? :)
Heart of Thorns without mounts is a wild “beginner guide” recommendation. I don’t disagree but I feel like new people should know what they’re getting into
Hey Lara, I am very interested in GW2, but I am not sure, if it is a game that I can enjoy as a semi solo player. I do this for multiple years now: when I play MMORPGS (back in the days WoW and RuneScape, nowadays only RS) I focus on solo gameplay but still enjoy exploring a shared world and occasionally team up. Is this a play style thats doable in GW2? You make the game look quite appealing and I also like the monetisation philosophy they have but most of the content seems heavily group dependant so I am a bit unsure. Also I prefer group content where you get "anonymously" matched, and dont have to hang around in discord and actually voice chat each other. Any thoughts on this? Anyways, I really enjoy your videos!
Exact type of MMO player that I am. I have sleeping children and wife in my house at night when I can play so I am absolutely not speaking to anybody or trying to get involved in mandatory discord chats. GW2 has a lot of collecting and completion to do as well as cosmetic hunting and I kind of focus on those things as a similar style of MMO player to you
In other mmos, usually, when u buy the latest xpac - you get access to all old ones immediately. But in GW2 you gotta still buy every expansion separately?
Message to new players: DON'T get discouraged by some rumors and some bitter burned outs making ill statements about the current game and the future of it. Come on a lot of us still play Guild Wars 1. Your time will not be wasted.
ok the fact that you put out a guide in 2024 makes me a subscriber 100% I was avoiding it to counter simpstincts...but seeing content for new players a decade after it's launch is refreshing sooo imma have to simp it a lil bit and say this is awesome. Especially since im returning to it and a friend is starting for the first time about a month ago. Always nice to see things keep up with the trends.
So after reaching a level where you get specializations, without any extensions, you're just done? Cannot play any further? So I'd need to spend 100$ to continue playing?
Thanks for the vid. I'm stuck at mastery level 24 with my bar full. I have a Fractal Attunement that I cannot uncheck and I need like a bunch of mastery points for it and I only have 1 for Central Tyria. (I don't do Fractals by the way). Are the experiences I gain accumulated and added for my next level if I can manage to finish the masteries for Fractal Attunement? Unfortunately, it's a pain to even get masteries unfortunately as well.
Great video Laranity! But I have to disagree with you about the importance of picking what race to play from a new player perspective. In the base game each race gets its own personal story. Jumping puzzles are big part of the game and the size and animation of your character can make it harder do do them. I personally find Asura and Charr harder to do jumping puzzles with.
I'm a new GW2 player (around 2 months in) and you're my favorite GW2 content creator 🥺❤
Iam a new player too
The timing with "Guild Wars 3" being the buzzword! 😂

Don't be afraid to ask in game if you are confused. People are usually nice and helpful.
Welcome to the game!
Welcome to Guild Wars 2! :)
Another nice facet of a lot of dynamic events is there's a good chance it'll help fill nearby hearts so that's also a plus! I've also always loved the "/wiki" command, wish that feature were in other games at times
Im almost 2 years in (casually) and i still visit the beginner videos because theres always things I find that I overlooked.
Nice video and thanks.
I started gw2 this week, thanks for all the info. I literally have been just selling or destroying all my resources instead of storing them....
I play GW2 since beta, but a "beginner's guide" is always useful: maybe in 12 years I miss something 😅
I played this literally on release for a good month, before wow pulled me back. And now over a decade later, this video gave me the itch to get in again🙇♂️
10k hour player here. i see a new beginner's guide, i still get excited!
Running around doing each of the starting zones was my favourite thing. Great vid!
Ah! Just in time, as ive started GW2 with my SO. Thank you! >;3
That’s the best way to play any game that has cooperative gameplay. Playing with family or friends is the best!
Welcome, hope you both have a blast

Always good to see a video from you Laranity! As someone who only joined the game last year, I'm impressed by how much this review takes into account things that will be brand new/unknown for a fresh player (but become second nature/obvious as you play)
You told me this would drop today on the stream and here it is 🎉. Love your content keep up the good work ❤
Always happy to hear your voice Lara 🤓
2:14 LMAO!
hit lvl 50 on my 2nd day playing GW2 - fun video! some good info here I didn't know.
Woop Woop! The summary is finally here!^^
your videos have inspired me to play gw2 today and ive completely fallen in love!! thank you for all the help getting started.
I am not new (playing from HoT release), but ur videos are so soft and warm
im still pretty new, but started getting into it more and learning more in depth things, the biggest struggle I have is keeping track of all the different items, vendors, events and currencies from all the different expansions... that and figuring out what is going on through all the effects covering my screen in big groups
havent rolled GW2 in AGES and getting back into it! thanks for the refresher and i cant wait to see the other vidieos you have! 🥰🥰
I have the game downloading in the back while I watch this. Thank you so much!
Edit: just wanted to note that, your a really good teacher. And also I like your accent lolol. Awesome work with these videos!
This is a great video with a lot of useful information. But I'm still horribly confused and overwhelmed. There's so much to this game.
Here i am. Playing since beta but watching ur beginners guide about the game because ur just entertaining. Keep the work up!
"Inventory Wars" was very felt and accurate. The "Deposit All Materials" button saved my life, lol.
The only + for Steam launcher is being able to find it and appearing online to Steam, otherwise the affil links, codes, and sales mean the other launcher is far better. (I say this as a Steam player, lol.)
Thank you so much for this video, I am a new gw2 player and I learned a lot about the game! I love your unique accent
the best about this game is i can pick any profession and run a healer, dps or tank build and i like that even though i mainly like to play dps/tank in games, but my first/main character is always gonna be myself (roleplay wise) and then others i try to make a character with his own lore and try to be the character instead of me trying to be immersed as myself in the game
Alright you got me! Your gearing and gold farming guide are becoming pillars of my resources.
Great video, I bought the first and second dlcs after playing the game for a bit because I really liked it and playing without mount is horrible lol
Ty for the guide, I knew most things but you taught me few new ones as well :)
I am a new player since beta and always enjoy learning new things!
best help to get into playing GW2 again that I found! Thx alot alot alot
I had played this game for 3 years but I still love this contents, luv your videos Lara
This video was released 1 minute ago? wow, fresh!
I love this game so much. It however is very overwhelming because I've never played an mmo before and there are so many mechanisms in there lol. Thanks for the guides
I'm lucky to get this in my recommended. Just started playing today.
can you make a detailed and slow guide on how to get vision? or any free legendary like the legendary amulet? pls?
At first I was unsure if I'll buy GW2. Excellent content. No more doubts, I'll buy the game
13:26 Oh, Mukluk will definitively be thrilled to watch it and learn! :P
Laranity is the BEST!!! I watch her stream at least four times a week and am always entertained. Even though I only pick up on about 5% of what they're talking about 'cause I'm a total noob. I think I've watched her Twitch stream longer than I've actually played the game....

As a deathsalad I aprove the choice of a sylvari!
I like your happy vibe. Thanks for the guide.
This video was released exactly just when I started playing😂 thank you this rly helped I wanted to just get a op weapon but now I realised I don't need that until max level
im downloading it now, ive only ever played old school runescape and im primarily a FPS guy. So im gathering intel on how to properly play, ty

Incredibly good video, very funny and extremely helpful for new players!
Well done, Lara! 😃
I'm currently downloading. I've been with ESO for years, loved New World (for its sins) but really want something new. Wish me luck!

Ok, if you say so.

When you purchase a GW2 expansion, you gain a special "code." fantastic guide, gonna share with my buddy who i've been trying to get to play xD
You definitely the best gw2 creator 🙏✨

Exact type of MMO player that I am. I have sleeping children and wife in my house at night when I can play so I am absolutely not speaking to anybody or trying to get involved in mandatory discord chats. GW2 has a lot of collecting and completion to do as well as cosmetic hunting and I kind of focus on those things as a similar style of MMO player to you
my account had 10th birthday aniv and im still watching this video, idunno i just bored and sick to high ping. 2500 ping is crazy
when the guide to play gw3!!! im just kidding thanks for the content laranity queen of the charrs

ok game is like v rising im hooked already
great guide
11:00 Laranity recommending newbies to equip trinkets meanwhile showing all legendary items equipped. 😂
In other mmos, usually, when u buy the latest xpac - you get access to all old ones immediately. But in GW2 you gotta still buy every expansion separately?
Friday and a new Laranity vid? Is it my birthday? LaranityComfy
Thank you!
What is Your opinion on Guild Wars 3 news?
Asura Master Race
Thanks for the vid. I'm stuck at mastery level 24 with my bar full. I have a Fractal Attunement that I cannot uncheck and I need like a bunch of mastery points for it and I only have 1 for Central Tyria. (I don't do Fractals by the way). Are the experiences I gain accumulated and added for my next level if I can manage to finish the masteries for Fractal Attunement? Unfortunately, it's a pain to even get masteries unfortunately as well.
great guide !
So refined. No more, no less. ❤
Awesome content!
Would i have to buy the addons if i want to go raiding and stuff like that? Like in wow the most recent addon has the most recent raids and dungeons
