DJI FPV Manual Mode Tutorial No.3 | Sim Hours OR CRASH

  • DO NOT TRY on the first go, unless you are already familiar with FPV Acro flying. Many pilots who frequently fly in 'N' and 'S' modes would have created bad control habits, and would assume that M Mode is not too different. THIS IS WRONG. And would likely cause your drone to crash. Take the time, spend the hours in a fpv simulator. ANY simulator. Definitely better to get that muscle memory in on the sim, than spending school fees on the field. FPV Freerider is the recommended Android app if u don't have an Apple platform.

      Takes awhile, but its kinda driving a car/ riding a bicycle etc. At first it seems that there are so many inputs that you need to control just to get the vehicle to do simple movements. But eventually there will be a time that you no longer need to think of which input to give, and instead it all feels automated. Thats where you know the muscle memory has been building well. And the only time to really test it is when adverse things happen and you are able to react and bring the drone back to safety while still in M Mode. Hope the journey will be smooth for you. practice in the sim and enjoy M Mode AS HIGH UP in the skies as you can. Be ready with that Pause Button. Stay safe and see you in the skies mate!

    I flew in the simulators, can't stay up in air for more than 10-seconds without crashing! I was able to fly Realtime manual mode but 100 foot in the air........that break button is a savior!

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  Рік тому

      Thanks for sharing! Yup its not easy to get the head around the controls. Coz like in Normal and Sport modes, alot of the flying controls have been done by the drone, like hovering and self-leveling. In manual, suddenly there is so much to deal with individually. Centering of the drone, throttle control, and even simple turns become complex mix of actions. Since you are already in the air, keep practicing in both forms. Its the muscle memory that we wanna build here. Not noticeable now, but u wanna reach a state of automation where you no longer need to think of what is pitch, roll, yaw and throttle. When shit happens, you take control and react accordingly instead of relying on the pause button. Thats when you know you are sharper as a pilot. This transition takes time, and ITS OK to rely on the pause button now. i use it once awhile too. But im mainly doing freestyle, so to keep Pausing at every risky flip or roll is undesirable. So I lean more to relying on muscle memory. For yourself, just keep the pace of practicing and enjoy the skies more. You have already been in the air in M mode, so thats a big step ahead. Keep the "Attitude Lock" on if it makes for safer flights. See you in the skies!

      Link within the episode if u wanna learn to find your own personal rates. If u like my rates. U can then input them in the drone. They do not automatically link, so its good to test them in the app b4 u get them set in your drone.

    Great content, Rahim. Just got mine a week ago and am loving it so far. I’m gonna take my time before I go to manual mode but I’m kind of worried that I’m going to build up bad muscle memory by flying too much in sport mode. I think it adds some roll when you pitch while moving forward to help you turn smoother and I’m concerned about having to unlearn it when I go to manual. Thoughts?

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  2 роки тому +2

      Welcome to the DJI FPV family! Actually both skills of stabilised (N and S Modes) and non-stabilised (M Mode) will be equally useful. YES u will develop bad habits, for example what u mentioned. Another example is like when in N and S Mode, pushing forward on right stick moves the drone forward but in Manual Mode pushing forward will start e drone pitching forward. If you dont stop pitching forward, you will go into a front flip. This episode explains it:
      ua-cam.com/video/8WypWsn5I4Y/v-deo.html
      So actually, when i started out few years back, i learned just the same. On a Phantom, Mavic and then progressed to DIY drones. And i learned, and re-learned all on the SIMULATOR FIRST. There is NO NEED to rush into flying Manual. Its a joy to do flips and dives, but it has its own learning curve. It helps to think of it as 2 separately different skillsets and controls. As u progress, u may think of it as "okay im in M mode, ease up on the controls and fly manually". You can afford to be aggreassive on N and S mode, but not Manual. Just take your time and enjoy the journey 🤟🏽

    Why my M mode keeps going up without even moving the throttle up

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  2 роки тому

      Did u loosen the left stick (throttle)? Left stick is usually Altitude control in N and S modes, will now be Throttle in M mode. Means u will need to lower the throttle

    Bro 1 question.
    During hovering/flying in manual mode.Can change mode to normal/sport?

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  3 роки тому +1

      Yes u can for both the sim and real flight. For the sim, only works if u r using DJI Virtual Fly app, as only it will recognize the other switches of the DJI controller. A 3rd party app will only know the direction controls, and not link the other switches to modes

    • @laageswaran1990
      @laageswaran1990 3 роки тому +1

      @@TheReelRahim how about stick position during changing the mode as throttle stick not centered and not spring loaded?

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  3 роки тому +1

      Good question 👍🏼. I initially had a self-centering setup on the left stick, and wanted to get used to it. But i felt it was dangerous and instead set it up FPV style where the stick has free movement, same like my other FPV RC remotes. If the time comes that u were in manual and switched to S or N mode, then just estimate the centre position of the left stick. Since N or S is GPS guided, it will hover in place, and u will just need to maintain altitude by estimating a middle left stick position. U DONT NEED TO SEE IT on the remote, just as long as u adjust the drone till there are no altitiude changes.

    Hi l have some questions. I’m enjoying your tutorials!! I recently downloaded the DJI simulator to my iPad. I don’t yet own a drone, googles or controller. Hope to buy in the near future. I’m good in N and sport mode. Trying to learn M mode. Questions. Is using the built in controller in the app ok. Very hard to fly slow in M mode in stadium, I usually start out good but quickly rise out of the stadium or end up flying backwards unable to start moving forward again. Ok to fly with 0 degrees tilt? Any help you can give me is much appreciated. Thanks for your videos!

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  3 місяці тому

      Sorry I missed this. Been away for awhile. Perfectly fine to fly with the inbuilt controller! When I started out with DIY FPV, i practiced on mobile for weeks! It helped me get around understanding how acro flight works in Mode 2. From there it was VERY EASY to adapt to actual RC controller. Also, 0 deg is fine, but once u wanna start flying fast, u will end up having to face the ground. This is where you could raise the angle to something more suited to the speed and to see where you wanna go. Im at 25deg most of the time and could go up to 35deg to cover longer distances. But really no restriction on this. Just set it to an angle that best suits the situation. Hope that helps. No need to rush into learning bigger things. Most importantly is that you enjoy the skies. Safe practice and I'll see you in the skies!

  • @InfinityRektic
    @InfinityRektic 3 роки тому

    For me, i have to disagree. i tried roughly 30 minutes on the sim, but some parts are extremly unrealistic for example flipping, in the sim you can flip while having throttle constantly on, irl thatll make your quad slam into the ground upside down. I did 3 flights in manual ( at the highest legal altitude) then did full acro, 6-7 flights later im comfortable doing rolls flips rubiks cubes ect. Im in no way good compared to fpv flyers, but i came from zero experience in full acro and honestly id say fly high and USE THE PANIC BUTTON. this makes it really hard to lose control or crash, it saved me multiple times. im now experimenting with rates, id love to hear some recommendations.

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  3 роки тому

      Here are my latest rates. A mix of softer centre stick feel for smooth cruising, and then fast stick ends for those freestyle moves:
      ua-cam.com/video/C5s1HaFWcws/v-deo.html
      Yep, if you go high, it will be forgivable. but jus heard too many crashes from the local community, and felt I needed to get this out. In SG, the limit is 60m and kinda not much space to try risky things first time for some. Its also true that the sim is not so accurate, but this is for the DJI FPV Virtual fly app. For other sims, gravity is adjustable and will give better flight feel. Just targeting the new pilots who didn't know that keeping pushing forward on the right stick would pitch the drone hard and cause it to crash. luckily there is the panic button, thats if u reacted fast enough or the ground came first!

    • @InfinityRektic
      @InfinityRektic 3 роки тому

    Thanks man. For some reason my Yaw is inverted on the simulator when I go into manual mode. Any idea?

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  3 роки тому

      No prob 🤟🏽. Aniways i dont think its a physical controller issue, since its only in M mode in e sim. Maybe just a glitch. There is no way to flip it in settings. So id recommend re-installing it. If that fails, then maybe trying out a 3rd-party free app first to confirm if its a app or controller issue. If yaw is still flipped, that confirms a controller issue, and only option is get back to DJI about it.

    Hello, would you recommend flying with a tiny drone like a newbeedrone acro 65 over flying on a sim?

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  2 роки тому

      Thats a good option, but definitely costlier than a simulator. But will give u real-world practice. U will need to get a controller and goggles to match, and also many batteries and a good charger as that drone only flues for around 5mins. So it depends what is your situation and how u wanna grow in the hobby.

    hello rahim iam havin an strange problem with mi controller, maybe you could help me out. Thing is that when i use liftof or any other sim, after houers of use, the controller started to do strange things int the sim, "ghost moves", and then when i went flying was also doing this ghost moves on the drone :S dont know how to solve this problem

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  2 роки тому

      Sorry friend, when u mean GHOST MOVES, is it that there will be input from the controller to the drone, amd its not coming from u? If that is happening, u may have a problem with the internal gimbals of the stick. Yes the sensors are called gimbals too, and u may want to try doing stick calibration first. Its in your goggle menu under "Controls". Try it and if its still there, then u may want DJI to help u out ✌🏽

    I set my max height to 500 meters, but when i fly manual mode 60 feet is the highest i can go, then will go to normal mode. Is 60 feet the highest for manual mode? Thanks.

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  3 роки тому +1

      Something seems wrong there. I mean 60ft is too low. Maybe u wanna get DJI to have a look at it. Show them your data log. Before that, maybe u wanna tru to install the firmware again?

    IMO the DJI sim is the worst. Use your controller with Velocidrone, Liftoff or AI Drone Sim..

      @TheReelRahim  3 роки тому +2

      Yup, personally prefer Velocidrone, and for on the go, i prefer FPV Freerider since its on the go.

    Simulator and reality are very different. I recommend you to try it for real, the simulator is awful

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  2 роки тому +2

      Yup, it sucks. But kinda the focus here is to train up muscle memory. This reduces the risk of accidents happening on real flights. Thats y i recommend simulator practice first.

    Thank you Rahim for the tips on this. May I have your opinion on one thing: do you think that it is imperative to be able to finish the advanced tracks in the sim before taking flight in the air in manual mode? I cannot finish the tracks in the time limit, however i am able to fly the drone in free flight quite well. I have the feeling that the advanced tracks are related more to drone racing rather than gently flying manually. What’s your opionoin? Thanks!

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  2 роки тому +1

      I CANT FINISH THEM EITHER. LOL! Nope i dont think there is a need. Morr important here is that i understand the Manual mode and having your reactions becoming more natural is more important in my opinion. As long as you have these, real world flying will tune those skills. See you in the skies!

    Don't use this drone to practice manual. You'll do your wallet a favor and practice on a 100 analog tinywgoop than this.

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  Рік тому +1

      Tinywhoops are great, but I prefer on a DIY 5in drone. Good power, aggressive characteristics. A tinywhoop would be too "airy".

    • @ChrisParayno
      @ChrisParayno Рік тому

      @@TheReelRahim fair point, I should've said a cheaper basher drone kit sort would be more appropriate.
