    Hey Rahim.Thank you so much for this series of flying the Avata in manual mode. I have been flying the DJI FPV for a while but have made lots of mistakes and not progressed as far as I could. I have watched So many youtube videos that try and fail to teach me about manual flying. I now also fly the Avata. Your videos are excellent I feel as though I am in a classroom with you, as you go into the aerodynamics of the drone, use of the controls, gimbal for speed control and lots more. I have learnt more in a few days of watching your videos and working on the various simulators, than in the last year watching other channels. Now I work the sim in the morning, and fly the same routines in the afternoon. I am following your advice step by step. Finally, I lived in Singapore for many years and I love the videos showing the skyline. Carry on, you are a great teacher !!

      "as though I am in a classroom with you" is what I hope to keep up with in more episodes to come. I may be abit rigid and not so entertaining but as previously a trainer in the military, i think this is where I shine best. Thanks for the compliment, and I hope to share more with the world about drones and the right ways to go about it. Thank you for this friend, it will keep me driving forward. Feel free to drop a comment on any episode if you have any questions and I'll help you out as soon as I can. Welcome to the the bigger FPV world and fly safe mate! Will pin this. See you in the skies!

      Sorry I missed this. You're most welcome. Coming from a seasoned FPV pilot's view, I feel DJI made it seem too easy for everyone to get into FPV. IT ISNT. You thought you could fly drones, until you try manual mode, and suddenly it becomes a steep uphill climb. Many hours in the sim are required and that would get you only barely comfortable on the sticks. Then when the real flying happens, there is the need to get used to the goggles, and the feeling of vertigo etc. So Im just here trying to make the journey for new FPV pilots as smooth and safe as possible for their first times in the skies. Hope to expand on more content soon too. Stay tuned and till then, see you in the skies!

    Cool video Rahim - thanks for sharing! I bought myself a DJI Avata 1.5 months ago in Portugal, spent quite a bit of time in the sim and then felt confident enough to fly it over water. The movements were still choppy at times but I had good control over it. Unfortunately, what happened was that the battery had a failure and just sent my Avata into a dive and that was it :D
    Anyway, am on my second Avata now and a bit "scared" to experience something like this again but that was just bad luck I guess. I have been flying drones for around 8 years (not FPV drones) but this is definitely a whole new game and I want to be able to become as comfy as possible.
    Keep it up and new subscriber right here! :)

    Great vid, rahim. My first acro flight was on Oct 6 with the avata. +1 on using the sim. Okay, I’m that guy that spends hours with my goggles on playing the virtual flight app 😂. To me, when I realized flying in acro was just like driving a stick shift car was a breakthrough. Seeing ‘past’ the screen on the goggles like we do with the windshield and automatically just going where we ‘see’ without thinking about it is where we want to be when flying fpv imo. That’s when I started flying instead of worrying about crashing and haven’t looked back since. I still fly on the sim every day even if I fly four or five packs that day because I find that I fly even better in real life the following day. One thing on the upgraded long sticks: I was using those and one day I decided to go back to trying the short sticks. I cut my race time in half on the sim the first time I tried them lol!!!

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  Рік тому +1

      Thanks bro. And great analogy about driving. Its like so called "being one" with the machine. And i do hope everyone will get here too. Dont think, just flow and SEND IT. Lol! But yea, thanks for sharing, and great to hear you are still doing sim practice and recognise its benefits in the skies. About the short sticks, im not usually a racer, and mostly freestyle. AND DAMNIT forgot the mention, that im a Hybrid pincher in this ep, and the sticks are meant for that. Thumbers should stick to the short sticks.

    • @SkeezyFPV
      @SkeezyFPV Рік тому

      @@TheReelRahim the funny thing is that I have giant hands and I’m a hybrid pincher too lol. I have no idea why I’m faster on the sim with the short sticks. I do like the longer ones for flying. I’m looking forward to watching this series. I learned acro with the avata but I’m doing a diy build with an o3 air unit. I have the potato too. I actually enjoy flying the potato more than the avata now that I only fly acro. I was able to root my v2 goggles the other night with the wtfos Margine hack and get in the right firmware so I don’t need to hook up my goggles with the cord and rebind with the fly app. This is like an addiction, rahim! 🤣

      Sorry I missed this. You're most welcome! Hope the journey has been smooth for you. Im personally a fan of Velocidrone, but only because that was the first AND ONLY desktop/laptop sim that i have and have no intention to spending on other sims. Does the job OK for me, but I run it on low res. I find sims can be equally as intensive on the graphics card like editing software, so since I also rely on my MacBook Pro to do video edits for YT primarily, graphics card working less is preferred for sims. If you really wanna go crazy on highest quality graphics, then i think Uncrashed fpv sim is gorgeous. A no for me, as im only concerned on getting the practice in, and basic graphics and maps will do. Also with Uncrashed, a strong computer setup will do it justice. Rather be spending on building a strong editing computer, than on a sim computer. Hope that helps.

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  Рік тому

      Nope sorry, it is not known to be able to pair with the Avata. Besides the obvious size difference, the switches on the Controller 1 do not match the needs of the Avata. Both the Avata and DJI FPV have had their firmware wired around the Controller 2, and in the goggles you will only see setup and switch customisation for the Controller 2. Sad that its not backwards compatible, as the Controller 1 was an expensive piece of gear. Hope that clarifies it.

      Yes, actually a fellow pilot did just that. Bought a TX from my spare DJI FPV (kept the drone, sold the goggles and TX), and practiced in the sim. He quit eventually though, as he found that the controls were very difficult to learn, and he didnt have time for it. You could give it a go and see if it works out for u. This is what i recommend:

Thanks for the feed back and the tips. I'm new to FPV and so far I love my Avata. I am thinking of getting a Lumenier 5" RTF with the DJI 03 for manual flights, what do you think?

      Damn that Lumenier is gonna be so sick! Go for it! Especially if its with the new 03. Are you on Goggles 2 or V2. Both will work, but just that Goggles 2 are future proofed. Oh and btw about the dizziness, its something that you could build up. Goal would be 20mins at one go. No need for any more than that as the Avata wont fly that long aniways. What is that specific mode that gives extra assistance to roll and yaw at the same time?

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  Рік тому

      Hmm thats odd. I just went to look for it again, and its no longer available. But dont matter, as it was for N and S modes. It combines yaw and roll, so that the left stick (Mode 2) is freer and you only need to worry with altitude control for that stick. Having it switched on will combine roll and yaw together which will make the drone not only bank in but also turn with one stick movement.

    • @devthethird2644

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  Рік тому

      Yes. Tried it even when I'm in the middle of a flip, and it managed to recover the drone. So basically, pressing it would send it back into Normal mode and the drone will come to a halt and hover in place. You will need to toggle the switch back into M, and re-engage Manual Mode to continue acro flights.

    • @TheReelRahim

      Id recommend you use the same rates that are on the real drone. The standard rates are not the best, so if you wanna give it a try, you could use my rates on both the sim and on the real drone. They are soft in the centre of the sticks for smooth cine flying, and could still provide fast spins at full stick deflection. Check the out here :

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  Рік тому

      Sorry I missed this. Pilots may have a personal preference as some may have flown in games with a gamepad and some may compare it to left/right-handed preferences. But for me, I chose to stay with Mode 2 as that was how others are flying. Makes for easy learning and referencing, especially when I watch the controls of others. Also, when I started out I bought alot of toy-grade drones and they were in Mode 2. DJI drones are by default also in Mode 2, so it just became the deciding factor to stick to Mode 2. By the way, I have fellow pilots that are in left-handed too, and they are in Mode 2. Its a skill to learn, and so it dont matter to me as everything will be foreign at the start. So just check that you are in Mode 2 when you pick up a drone set, and see if the journey works out for you. Hope that helps.

    so... Im absolutely gutted... I bought DJI FPV to fly "manual", I don't know if my definition of manual was wrong but I thought this option right here is what im looking but its not... basically even on manual my drone automatically goes up, like... ??
    Im 70 hours into Liftoff before it arrived, practising there in a mode where if I release all my buttons the dron will just fall down - meaning it won't go up or hover still on its own I need to constantly control the throttle to keep it levelled same like you do in a car and if I release all the buttons the dron will just start falling down like a helicopter with an engine off.
    How to turn that on?? Or what drone doesn't have this nonsense? Cos if its about the drone model im selling it and getting another one TODAY. Its shocking because I was flying exactly a DJI FPV model in the Liftoff simulator too, not a different drone. I ve been on Liftoff via my DJI controller 2 doing double backflips and rolls like its nothing - on what I thought its manual mode - and now in reality even the manual mode is with an assist. What the actual F?

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  Рік тому +1

      Doesn't sound like the DJI FPV I know. Sorry took me awhile to respond. Just to check have u rectified it? For the process of getting Manual Mode going, you will need to set it up with 2 simple steps, as by default there is no M Mode. This is a safety feature by DJI.
      Step 1, assign M Mode to toggle switch on top left:
      Settings/ Control/ Remote Controller/ Button Customisation/ Custom Mode
      Step 2, if confident of FULL M MODE:
      Settings/ Control/ Remote Controller/ Gain & Expo - Switch OFF "M Mode Attitude Limit"
      This will give u the full Acro controls. For more tips for DJI FPV, watch this tutorial of mine:

I have an App Dji Flight Simulator and its fantastic, its literally 1:1 but its bugged and only on manual mode which is most important for me in the sim basically the left stick is inverted, its a common issue at least I could google it and no fixes. When you go left on the left stick the drone will bend to the RIGHT and vice versa... Im super confident with Sports mode now but I want minimum 100h in a Sim on manual. I did about 50 hours in DJI Flight Sim ON that bugged manual mode... I thought its meant to be like that omg, now my muscle memory is even more ruined learning proper manual mode smh

      Finished watching your Manual guides. Your channel is a pure gem!
      I think I’m just stupid still and didn’t realise that turns depends on camera angle. Basically I was flying always at biggest angle on the sim which is 60 I believe and when you turn left it actually rolls right but when the camera is on 0 degrees it rolls left when you turn the left stick left. I think that’s because of the camera and that’s how it is MEANT to be, right?

    I have found that the simulated flights are not the same as flying for real. I can't practice manual in the simulator because I get motion sickness.....flying through the goggles i dont so just have to fly cautiously

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  Рік тому

      With all things FPV, motion sickness is unavoidable but there have been many success stories as pilots practice over time and get used to it. Iv experienced it myself, when I got back to flying fpv after taking a 2-year break due to an ongoing drone fine case. I was surprised that I got dizzy watching SbangSbang type of fpv videos. With a bit of practice and taking breaks while on the sim, i slowly get used to it again.
      Agreed that simulated flights are not the same as flying for real, but I would not discount it especially for new pilots, as this is where you can get the muscle memory dialed in, in a safe space to crash and make mistakes. Especially for freestyle. Many of us have spent many hours on the bench repairing our DIY drones because we tried tricks that we wished we practiced in the sim first to understand the movements.
      Some sims are dizzying, and to me thats because of the rigid image and high refresh rates. So having "motion blur" switched on would really smoothen things out and make the experience more comfortable for the eyes. But of course, this would be heavier on the computer to run. Uncrashed sim is a good option to look into if you're looking for the latest in graphics quality.
      So anyways, just wishing u safe practice either way on the sim or in the skies. If on the sim, take more breaks as its really straining on the eyes, and hope that slowly the motion sickness will go away. See you in the skies mate!

    I can’t get it to go forward it just flips

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  Рік тому

      I hope you are practicing M Mode in the simulator first and not straight in the skies. So by the way if it flips, that means you are not doing it right for M Mode.
      Let me clarify. For N and S modes, pushing the right stick forward and HOLDING IT THERE, will make the drone move forward. If you hold it there for M Mode, the drone will keep leaning itself (pitch) forward until it flips. You should pitch it to the desired forward angle, and pull back the stick to the centre. Then you will need to manage the throttle to maintain forward flight. Here is a better example explaining Manual Mode flight:
      ua-cam.com/video/9WY297mYwzs/v-deo.html

  • @bobbygxo1289

    screw the sim to learn, I tried once and felt sick immediately. Go to a field. Go up really high and switch to Manual Mode and practice and practice. Just know this vital piece of information, that at any moment you can simply switch to sport or normal mode whenever you feel like you are out of control and your drone will basically stop whatever major error you may have been heading too. It's a simple switch on the controller and can be done super fast. I found this faster to learn as I had 0 experience which meant I had no idea what yaw, pitch and roll meant. Total noob, not to mention I use different controller settings for gaining altitude etc which made any youtube videos difficult to understand. Besides the sim bit the video was helpful for smooth transitions.

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  Рік тому

      Yup that works, and I did that too back when I first flew a DIY drone. Thats before SG imposed a 200ft height ceiling, and thats not really alot of space to react should things go wrong. No prob for seasoned pilots who already have the muscle memory, but defo not enough reaction time for new pilots. Just sharing a different learning journey for others. Even till now, most FPV hobbyist still get on the sim for freestyle practice, so just getting new pilots comfy with the idea. Its all good and thanks for sharing your views mate.
