Checked out the cute jumpsuit before your video. However, I'm short, 5'2" max. and about 120. Not sure how it would fit me. It looks to be another factory fast fashion site. Kind of goes against your DIY repurposing video.
It's fascinating to me how brands like Free People are using the *aesthetic* of DIY (ie the logo on the t-shirt part of the dress made to appear cropped) for a commercial product. I appreciate how you always highlight the *spirit* of DIY, making clothes that are customized to a person's unique body and personal tastes.
AWEsome! I am just getting back into sewing after a nearly 40 year "vacation", and this sort of project suits both my cheapskate side and my creative side! In fact I was just going through my collection of thrifted clothes that I had set aside to tinker with, and found a skirt that will work perfectly for this! At 69 and retired I don't give a hoot about anybody's fashion opinions - I just want to be comfortable and a bit funky - just ask my purple and teal hair!!
I'm a petite, busty, but non fluffy woman. I'm so frustrated with everything I see in stores. They're made for tall, thin or tall big people. I used to get dresses at thrift shops and turn them into tunics, but I'm feeling lazy now. I guess I have to go back to my old ways.
Hello. I watched this video, found some clothes I figured would do. Went and bought a sewing machine, learned how to use it. Chopped the clothes, sewed them as directed in your video. Wore my newly made dress to a ladies group at church. They though it was a brand new dress I had bought. I was so happy to be able to tell them I had sewn it before our get together with clothes that were destined for the bin. All in one day! I thank you so much ! 🌹
I love this so much. I just lost 80 pounds and I still have about 60 pounds more to go. I am finally ready to start refashioning and sewing clothes for myself again. My son was just telling me yesterday that I need to sew for myself again. This dress is perfect. I don't normally wear dresses but I love this so much. I have a pair of super wide leg palazzo pants that are now way to big for me and I think they will be perfect to do this with. Maybe even make a jumper version of this. My mind is going a hundred miles a minute coming up with ideas
I have also lost a bunch of weight (for health reasons) and I have a bunch to go ...My clothes are fallin off... I got my sewing machine threaded for the first time in years today. If the weight loss was intentional congratulations. You are so worthy of putting in all the effort needed to make your life better
I made this dress and I love it!!! It took me 3 hours (I’m a beginner and also had some modifications to my skirt) but it was still really easy. If you know what you’re doing it’ll take no time at all. Highly recommend this DIY.
Now imagine being plus size and finally learning how to utilize those short waisted tshirts you've been keeping all this time. I need to go to goodwill. We don't have many thrift stores where I live, so goodwill is our only option
So adorable! I love them and think I'm going to the thrift store to find a sweatshirt and skirt that I can make into a maternity dress for my granddaughter for the fall when she's going to need something larger! Thank you so much for this idea of repurposing these 2 items!! I especially think the Billy Joel style with the angled t-shirt will be the best to accommodate her baby bump for a while!! Love it!!
Really great instructions. The patchwork skirt goes perfectly with that pink sweatshirt. I’ve made dresses and nightgowns like this for years, usually using lengths of fabric for the skirt. I’ll have to search for fun skirts at the thrift store instead.
Oh my goodness, these are so adorable! I have a pile of unworn tees and a bunch of maxi skits that I never wear because I always prefer dresses so I am definitively going to make some of these dresses! Thanks for sharing your creative genius with us! Shelbee
Last week, when you said you were doing this upcycle, I Literally had a t-shirt and bottom half of an oversized dress in front of me and I was wondering how to make them work. After you announced this video I folded both pieces up and made myself leave them alone all week, waiting to watch this. I'm gonna go feed my chickens and them I'm gonna get to work on my new dress!
wow! I am so glad this is in stlye now! some years ago I was making my own dresses using t-shirts for the top part cause being plus sized I was having trouble finding my own dresses. Now I need to pull those back out and rock them and make some more!! love yours Orly!!
Love the sweatshirt/ruffle skirt mash up! Maybe it's just me but you could've taken it one step further and used the cut off sleeves to fashion a couple of great pockets on the skirt. Thanks for showing us just how easy it is to transform items!
Just made my 1st version of this dress and I Love it! Thanks for sharing. I appreciate that your channel offers simple upcycles that anyone can do. Keep them coming. I have made some of your items from 5 years ago, since I just discovered the channel. The splatter jeans are still a hit in 2024.
OK, I saw this video over the weekend, and immediately went to GoodWill for skirts. It's Tuesday, and I've made 3 of them. Thank you so much for this idea! I just love it for my vintage tees.
Now when I first saw this I did not care for it at all but I decided to watch your show and see how you did It. And then after you lowered the seam to the natural waistline and your combo with the pink shirt and skirt that I really really liked and gave me so many ideas especially for skirts where the waistline or the elastic is worn out but I still love the skirt. I am for sure going to use this idea. Thank you so much
I literally stopped you vid to make my own. It took me only 25 mins to pick out my shirt and skirt ,cut , pin and sew. I almost donated the skirt because I didn't like the waist band . love it now. I might have to go to the thrift store for a concert shirt and skirt ,I can bear to cut my Duran Duran concert shirts. Thank you for the inspiration😁 I am a new subscriber.
I made one as soon as I watched this! I used a zepp t shirt I accidentally cut and cropped too short.. it worked amazingly! I’m wearing it to work at my high school today! I feel like a total badass!
Love these up cycles! Thank you so much for the tip about placing your item on its side to make the cut. I could not figure out why my car didn't work out until that tip. I taught myself to hand sew with the help of UA-cam about a year ago and I recently found a brother sewing machine for 20 bucks at goodwill. It was a steal for sure! ❤😊❤ So, now I can use a machine and feel more productive. 😊 The machine works beautifully too! I plan to practice on it all weekend so I will make one of these or maybe all now that I can hehe
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've had a skirt in my DIY box for a very long time waiting for inspiration on what to do with it. Great idea! Thank you 🥰🥳👏
THANK YOU, thank you so much for the sponsor. I've been looking for 3 years for an affordable, well crafted cotton/linen maker that sells maxis. Can hardly wait to see your DIY. Such cute dresses and easy to do, too. Nice work.
This video came up in my recommendations yesterday and I immediately subscribed, grabbed an old t-shirt I love (but never wear), a thrifted skirt I had (just waiting for a project), and mashed them up. It took less than 2 hours and already got an "OMG I love it!" Brilliant idea, thanks!
I like using curtains. There’s some really cute styles at the thrift store and we have these stores called Krazy bins where they sell Amazon returns or undeliverable items. Their material is so amazing, I got a ballet type Crinoline with the hoops going down, each one getting bigger. I used this look to make a maniquinn(not a sewing one, that’s be weird lol it’s a decor piece that stands on a pole lamp, I put those fairy lights inside the tutu ruffles. The top is a Prada tight bad girl leather zipper tank/lingerie piece. This is where my diy dress thing started, loving your style here so I’ll be trying it out! Subscribed .
You are the highlight of my week Orly. I appreciate your joy. I thrift things that “call” to me, just knowing I’ll use it for something eventually. Now I know what I’m doing with my latest purchase. Thanks. ☘️💕
I love the first combo. It looks like something you'd get at a fancy store. I like the second dress because it was 2 different "patterns" if you will. I also like the idea of how the second shirt was cut. Fabulous 👌
Cute! I did something similar with a long sleeved button down. I left the sleeves and actually stitched the shirt over the top of the skirt waistband, leaving the bottom unbuttoned so as to leave the skirt fuller at the hips. It's hard to describe and was made as a fairwell gift for a friend who gave me the suggestion. I completely forgot to take pics of it on her. 😂
Ok. I have some maxi skirts and some shirts that I have but do not want to give away and this just gave me an idea to combine the two. Thank you for the idea. Amazing as always.
Not only is this adorable, but I’m thinking of variations on this theme (top half made from an oversized button down shirt or a tank top, for instance). Also, you pulled out that old plaid skirt of yours during the sponsor portion of this video (not the one you used with the Billy Joel t-shirt, the super cool, sort of asymmetrical one you apparently made years ago), and I just need you to know that I am *obsessed* with that skirt, ever since watching your video a few weeks ago. I haven’t stopped thinking about it since-I was recently eyeing plaid flannel at JoAnn Fabrics, thinking about how I could create something similar. 😂 If I do it, I will absolutely post it on Instagram and tag you!
I am helping a friend downsize and have been gifted with piles of outdated clothes. At least 6-8 skirts with beautiful fabric and lots of fullness. I can’t wait to match them up and make a few dresses! My friend will love the new life they’ll get! She might even want them back! 😂
I tried this with a tshirt and heavy skirt, didn't work due to the fabric differences but I still love this and am going to try again with better suited fabrics
If you wanna do that gathering and pinning really easily and perfectly symmetrical, I noticed that every other flower on that top row was a dark blue so you could pin every flower together, so that it look like they were all with red or you could pin every other hole, so that it’s red white red white or every blue so that it’s red white red white so there’s different ways but you can use the print all of the fabric to help you create an even balance. I’ve particularly done that when I work with plaids.
I've held on to pieces for YEARS I loved but didn't know what else to do with them. You've given me so many ideas. Now, I'm pulling out everything! Thank you, Orly.
great! i have so many band shirts and weird length skirts im gonna combo together. i have some ball skirts from when that and a sweater on top were a trend. wore once an hung up. even some tank dresses i can see cutting off from under the arms and adding a tee top to that would make them less short an more funky. thanks orly. i have had this idea in my head and seeing you make it simple has gotten me to go closet scavaging now!!!

Love, love, love this!
As a petite, "fluffy," busty woman, store-bought dresses often don't fit. Now I know how to make my own! ❤
Yes!! Pinch the waist a bit to show you figure!
I'm a petite, busty, but non fluffy woman. I'm so frustrated with everything I see in stores. They're made for tall, thin or tall big people. I used to get dresses at thrift shops and turn them into tunics, but I'm feeling lazy now. I guess I have to go back to my old ways.

Congratulations to you both on your weight loss🎉
WOW, you both should be really proud of yourselves. Congrats on your achievements. I know it must have been hard. So happy for you both.

Does your community have any freecycle on-line groups? Or maybe you've just found your new business venture! 😁
Amen!!!!!
Omg you're right. It seems like all shirts are short waisted to me!
Great idea! 😊
I'm with you.
Orly strikes again with something I didn’t know I needed but now must have!
hahah
So adorable! You look really good in pink, it is very cute, this type of dress is comfortable , you will probably wear it all the time!
Those 2 diy dresses are fabulous! Even better than the inspiration piece. Thanks for sharing.
Really great instructions. The patchwork skirt goes perfectly with that pink sweatshirt. I’ve made dresses and nightgowns like this for years, usually using lengths of fabric for the skirt. I’ll have to search for fun skirts at the thrift store instead.

Right ✅️ great idea
I love your channel! Easy to follow for someone like me who doesn’t have the best sewing skills.
Both of those look better than the inspo, at a tiny fraction of the cost!
If you have any amount of tummy pleats make it look bigger there. That’s why the pleat(s) in the back are such a great idea!
The cropped sweatshirt & maxi skirt would make a really stylist maturity dress. I love it!!!
OK, I saw this video over the weekend, and immediately went to GoodWill for skirts. It's Tuesday, and I've made 3 of them. Thank you so much for this idea! I just love it for my vintage tees.
LOVE the free people inspired DIY's!!!! The billy joel one was my fave.

Quelle bonne idée … super joli et sympa. Merci🌺🌸🌺
This is Everything!
This elevates a T shirt and skirt So Nicely!
You're amazing. I've got dozens of tutorials saved and yours are the best I've found.
I made one as soon as I watched this! I used a zepp t shirt I accidentally cut and cropped too short.. it worked amazingly! I’m wearing it to work at my high school today! I feel like a total badass!
Your Billy Joel dress adorable great choice of dress fabric! Tres cool
LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! I'm a Thrift store gal, I buy and alter things I like, you're giving me new Ideas! Thank you!
wonderful idea! They look great. Thank you for sharing this tutorial!
Hell yeah when I saw that in the catalog I swooned. Also agreed with the seam…and the price 😂
Love this DIY! I've got my thrifted top and my black and white gingham fabric to do my mashup 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Love these up cycles! Thank you so much for the tip about placing your item on its side to make the cut. I could not figure out why my car didn't work out until that tip. Yesss! Oh myyy, I loove the Billy Joel dress. I've never actually attempted a thrift flip diy idea, but this - I must!!
I have missed you. This is a wonderful idea. I have three skirts I want to do this with.
I'm new to this channel and i just can't override my amusement about how much you resembles Sandra Bullock!
This look reminds me of the grunge, granola, tree hugger look that Boulder Colorado had going in the 90’s. Sometimes I miss those days lol
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've had a skirt in my DIY box for a very long time waiting for inspiration on what to do with it. Great idea! Thank you 🥰🥳👏
We did this in the 80's. I love the updated style! So cute!
THANK YOU, thank you so much for the sponsor. I've been looking for 3 years for an affordable, well crafted cotton/linen maker that sells maxis. Can hardly wait to see your DIY.
Such cute dresses and easy to do, too. Nice work.
You make it so simple but unique…so creative. Love it

Simple concept to fabulous results! Love your creative talents!
Supes cute. That Billy Joel dress is everything. Thanks for the DIY inspo!
This is so cool, love the pink one with the pleats in the back!
Love it! 😍 I’m making them so excited to do his project super easy!
You are the highlight of my week Orly. I appreciate your joy.
I thrift things that “call” to me, just knowing I’ll use it for something eventually. Now I know what I’m doing with my latest purchase. Thanks. ☘️💕
perfect to upcycle those dresses and shirts you used to love.. but wore to death!!.... pair them, and its LOVE again !!! woo hoo
I love the first combo. It looks like something you'd get at a fancy store.
I like the second dress because it was 2 different "patterns" if you will. I also like the idea of how the second shirt was cut.
Fabulous 👌
Imagine using a skirt with pockets so the dress has pockets. That would be the * *chef's kiss* * version
I mean!!!
@@OrlysChannel I imagine it would be pretty simple to add in-seam pockets if you get a skirt that has side seams! Or maybe even adding patch pockets??
Orly you are so freaking creative! What amazing DIYs! They look beautiful and so expensive I'm in love!
This will be my first ever sewing project!!!! Thank you so much!
You know it’s getting serious when you can’t keep up with all of the projects so you have to have an “Orly” watch later list!! Love this!!
Thank you Orly!!! This is great!!! Been watching you since your home and family days !!!
aw thank you so much for the support!
I am so grateful I found your channel
Those came out really cute. ❤
I love the vibe! These dresses are given. It makes me feel inspired again! Thank you Orly.
So going to make a few dresses like this. Florida is frickin 🥵 hot. Super fun idea thanks for sharing😎🦩

Love the plaid skirt with the Doc Martins ❤❤❤
Ваши переделки вдохновляют меня вы молодец
Total grunge dress. I love it! Forgot all about this trend from the 90s
Love the black overalls!!!! Love the DIY!!!
Ok. I have some maxi skirts and some shirts that I have but do not want to give away and this just gave me an idea to combine the two. Thank you for the idea. Amazing as always.
Love the sweat+ tee shirt dresses. Thank you!
I'm going to try it. Keep your fingers crossed 🤞
They've turned out pretty awesome. 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁💯💯💯💯💯💯

I love this!!!!! I have such goodfabrics in my stash that would work for this.
Hey Orly, this is one to try. Thanks.
Definitely trying this! Thank you.
Ooh great idea this would be good for those t-shirts that are just a bit too short 😍.
And I've just got the design for a new summer dress. Yay.
Yes!! They turned out so good. One for me to try 😊
I am helping a friend downsize and have been gifted with piles of outdated clothes. At least 6-8 skirts with beautiful fabric and lots of fullness.
I can’t wait to match them up and make a few dresses! My friend will love the new life they’ll get! She might even want them back! 😂
Question. When you do the high low T-shirt do you have to alter the skirt to keep the hem level or just let it fall where it wants
I’m wondering this too…when she models it, I can’t tell if it’s straight across the bottom or not…
Omg yes! Love these! Definitely have to try this. Thanks Orly x
Very cool Diy. Shoes play an important role with this for sure.
Amazing! I love these dresses! ❤❤❤
I tried this with a tshirt and heavy skirt, didn't work due to the fabric differences but I still love this and am going to try again with better suited fabrics
That jumpsuit so cute!❤
If you wanna do that gathering and pinning really easily and perfectly symmetrical, I noticed that every other flower on that top row was a dark blue so you could pin every flower together, so that it look like they were all with red or you could pin every other hole, so that it’s red white red white or every blue so that it’s red white red white so there’s different ways but you can use the print all of the fabric to help you create an even balance. I’ve particularly done that when I work with plaids.
Good job they are really cute!
I've held on to pieces for YEARS I loved but didn't know what else to do with them. You've given me so many ideas. Now, I'm pulling out everything! Thank you, Orly.
great! i have so many band shirts and weird length skirts im gonna combo together. i have some ball skirts from when that and a sweater on top were a trend. wore once an hung up. even some tank dresses i can see cutting off from under the arms and adding a tee top to that would make them less short an more funky. thanks orly. i have had this idea in my head and seeing you make it simple has gotten me to go closet scavaging now!!!
yes!! have fun!!
Какая классная переделка👍👍Ты красавица, умница👏👏👏 давно тебя смотрю 👋🤩😍❤️ Россия
I love your dresses. So unique and comfy too.
Love this using a shirt!! Sorta what I did last year is take a t-shirt top and pieced to gather a shirt with other old t-shirts.
Orly I LOOOOVE THIS! And I have the pieces already!
Hi Orly. Love your channel I tried the tshirt and skirt combo. I LOVED the dress I made!!! Thank you so much for your inspiring channel
Feelin good now about those skirts I saved! Just found you today.😊
They are too cute!!!!
Loveeeee that tshirt dress!
Orly is there no end to your creativity and talent? ❤
So glad I found your channel!!!!
❤❤❤thank you for your upcycling couture ideas 😊😊😊
