I also admire the use of the ribbed bottom edge refashioning it into a matching scarf. I have a nice quality sweater that was gifted to me but it is old style and fits like a pillowcase. Thanks for showing the binding trick. Some viewers don't know how to sew and also have lots of money and don't have to be thrifty.

It is not as easy as it looks. Obviously, you are very skillful and experienced. I would have to measure at each step of the way, pin together everything, and sew very slowly and carefully easing the pieces under the foot. The result would not be as perfect as as yours. I love your redesigned sweater but the project is beyond my ability. Thank you for the entertaining video.
Me too, but maybe I will give a try when I am a good mood but in the simple look, without pockets and scarfs. And of course I will draw a pattern on the paper first, like amateurs do 😊😊.
DIY Edigna: That’s a nice job you did in rescuing that sweater. When I first saw you cut it, all I could imagine was the sweater starting to unravel before you could get the work done; The bias tape was sure good idea to encapsulate the stitches before that could happen. You are the only person I’ve ever seen turn a corner with bias tape like that without mitering; what a nice, clean, flat corner you made in a place that should’ve turned out bulky. I think I’ll watch that little segment over and over to see how exactly you did it. Before seeing this segment, it would never have occurred to me to do that, but now I can see an application for that and they put in the time to learn that skill. That looks like a nice comfy little sweater set for puttering around the house on a cool day that you’ve ended up with. Thank you very kindly for demonstrating one way to rescue a very nice quality warm sweater that a person might otherwise not get more use from.
NOT an easy project for a beginner!!! It is truly a great reuse/up cycle instead of wasting a sweeter but it does require professional or at least advanced skills. Nice work.
This was a great video for me. I used a sweater I had, some bias tape I had already made that matched my sweater and I added cuffs that I pirated from an old corduroy shirt that I got at a thrift store which gave it a great pop of color. I had some vintage buttons that I also used. I love the results and plan to do this again with another sweater I have that I don't like the style that much, but it would be great for this. This was really fun!!!!! The instructions were so clear and easy to follow.
I skip to the end to see the results but it’d be great if you show end result in the beginning like a before and after. This is great recycling and creative. Sewers will try it. I may try a variation version of it. Very inspiring!

That’s so sweet. My Mommy went to Heaven in July 2009. I had just spoken to her an hour before I got the call that she was gone. So sudden. It was so traumatizing that I really went hysterical, and that’s not at all like me. She was my person. We did so many things together and had so many laughs. I wish we had taken more pics. I was blessed to have her until I was 49. I am so excited to see her again one day in Heaven. I miss her every day and think of funny and/or wise things she said. Take care. Big hugs!
My Mom was a very talented seamstress, too. I still have her 1945 Singer sewing machine in a gorgeous walnut cabinet. It still works, too. It’s the only machine I know how to sew on. I was given a newer Singer, but I have never learned to use it.
You made that look so easy but I know there was some serious skill involved in creating that. Excellent job, it looked wonderful... I struggle to sew a straight line.. :)
May I share a trick on how to achieve a straight line stitching: focus your eyes on either on the narrow or wide edge of the presser foot using the as a guide (depending on the task you want to accomplish). This is what my grandma taught me when I was nine years old. Since I didn't want to wear skirts, I learned to cut and sew my very first pair of custom-made shorts at that age.
I could have done this back in the day. She is very skilled but the garment is a combination of doable techniques. I am 65 and started sewing at age 4. My mother taught me, then I learned by constantly trying new things because I loved it! Sewing is like anything else - practice makes perfect! If you love it, keep at it! Don’t ever look at something and think you can’t! Do not despise the day of small beginnings. The mighty oak was once an acorn!
Nice! I love to sew too. Now I could see myself shopping a thrift store or flea market for those pure wool or cashmere sweaters that have a hole or a rip and remaking it. I WOULD NEVER USE POLYESTER OR ANY SYNTHETIC FABRIC. But because pure wool and cashmere doesn't contaminate and always remains so, it's a safe material. Cotton needs laundering, but pure wool only needs air & sunshine. Same with pure silk, no laundering needed. Have a beautiful time in your sewing. 🌺🌸🏵️🌸🌺
I came across this by luck and I’m over the moon how beautiful your sweater came out! Genuine! I would so wear this. I’m going to go through some of my old sweaters and give them a new life. I love it! Thank you for sharing.
This was a big thing as I grew up with many siblings. I remember I was once given plaid bell bottoms. I could have just worn them but I chose to rebuild them. My uncle was fascinated. When I was done it was a gorgeous transformation. I also cooked supper for 9 ppl. Lol I looked great at dinner. I wore a white shirt that displayed the cuffs and collar replaced with the leftover plaid. It was hot. Lol
She is definitely a professional. I love that she gave new life to something old instead of just throwing it out. We need more people in the world like that. 😎
Fascinating to watch this no nonsense video. You’re very clever and made this look so simple. It would take me about 3 months to make. It gave me some great ideas and techniques of how to do simpler things though. Thank you.
Huh only 3 months? I have many unfinished sewing projects due to my very slow progress in this area. It’s a pity she hasn’t been snatched up by the clothing industry, what an asset ✅

Janet ,why not great yourself ( especially if like me you are locked in the house in C ovid lockdown) to a basic seeing machine ,just straight stitch & zigzag even to start off with & have a go at making something really simple .I truly believe every so glad human being is capable at being creative.Plus with global warming & the amount of cheap clothing that's being produced & adding to this eco meltdown...it feels really great to just upcycle & give new life to a loved but rather tatty old garment & create something unique too 😊👍xx

It was hot. Lol
Awesome 👍
She is definitely a professional. I love that she gave new life to something old instead of just throwing it out. We need more people in the world like that. 😎
There are heaps of them in 3rd world countries.
Wow so professional lady. Thanks for sharing your talent. I love it. 💋💋💋💋❤️❤️❤️
But its a waste of a perfectly good sweater that could've been donated to a cold homeless person

It took me 8 years to knit a sweater 😁😁
