Healey should be in the discussion of the greatest rock/blues guitarists of all time. Dude was an absolute MONSTER on musicality. who else hit notes like he did?
Yes, he is self taught. His parents bought him a guitar when he was a kid. Being blind, he just put it on his lap and started teaching himself. Crazy talent.
I can tell you this. When he was elementary school my step father was teaching Jeff to read brail, my step father brought his guitar in to sing for the kids and Jeff fell in love with the guitar, my step father also showed him basic chords and Jeff went onto more.
I am totally blind, and teach guitar lessons, and I have to say, he is one of my inspiration. Y’all should have definitely heard angel eyes first, but anyway. I wasn’t born blind, I was shot in a drive-by when I was 19, but I’m still blind, and play guitar like this dude. He is a bad ass
@Bilbo Bass i mean during the song u dont really hear them and afterwards, well its not like these 2 have anything interesting to say about it tbh. But it was just a joke haha, think he would rather want me to treat him as an equal instead of showing pitty. Nonetheless great that he can play guitar as a blind man sir. As a guitarist myself, we typically mainly use four fingers on the fret board with the occasional thumb over the top on the low E (the fat string at the top) for certain chords. This dudes thumb game is ridiculous. How jealous do you think a piano player would be watching a six fingered man play piano in front of him. That’s how I feel watching this guy, it’s almost unfair. Dude was playing ON FIRE! There’s a song where Stevie Ray Vaughan was playing alongside Jeff Healey, and even SRV had to step back in amazement. That’s quite an accomplishment. (edited for spelling)
Totally agree, at one point while Jeff Healey is soloing, Stevie has this "holy shit" look on his face, a reaction I don't think anyone else ever gave him.
@@Burned_Man When Stevie "discovered" Jeff in Toronto I was supposed to see both of them. Stevie at the El Mocambo and Jeff at the Brunswick House. I got stupid ill and couldn't attend either show. I saw Jeff play half a dozen times though. Most at tiny bars like The Upper Lip back in the mid 80s.

When he went to a boarding school for the blind they tried to get him to play the guitar "normally" but he was uncomfortable doing so and stuck with the method of playing it on his lap.

Jeff lost his eyesight in infancy due to a rare form of cancer. At the age of three, he received his first guitar and starting teaching himself how to play. He developed his own style that would never be duplicated. An amazing person and an amazing inspiration to us all. And, yes, he died too young at the age of 41 in his home town of Toronto Canada.
