Jeff Healey was Canadian and he lost his eyesight to cancer. His father gave him a guitar when he was three. He couldn't reach so he started playing it in his own way. He lost his battle with cancer when he was in his 40's. He was amazing!!

I had the privilege to see the Jeff Healey Band in a small night club in Greenville, SC. The Arc Angels headlined that night (pre album release warm up show). Hard to believe that Jeff Healey was an opening act. It was an incredible show.

Jeff Healey was one of the best blues men that ever walked the face of the Earth. He could make that git sing, cry, whine or growl. His voice was so powerful, yet he could go soft too. He was the real deal. By the way, holding the guitar in his lap was more comfortable for him because his arms were shorter than average. Too bad his blindness never let him see how good looking he was.

I had the distinct privilege to see Jeff Healey play while stationed in Germany 🇩🇪 in the 80s. We were the a group of Americans in a small German beer haus with approximately 200 Germans. I say we're probably the only 8 Americans because as we stood 10 feet from the stage we were the only ones going bezerk after every song! Actually after a couple songs Jeff announced the names of his band mates and as we were screaming and carrying on Jeff point down at us and said'"These people here must be Americans because they are carrying this whole venue so thank you for being here you guys!" I was stunned!! Being recognized by the Great, and I do mean GREAT, Jeff Healey!! It was an incredible evening one which I'll never forget! To those who diss Jeff are just jealous!
    R.I.P. Jeff!!!!

Great Canadian. So sad he died so young. What a talent. The guy was blind and was a virtuoso. His other great songs are Angel and his amazing remake of While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

Walked into a Victoria BC bar where some guy was just killing a performance of Jimi Hendrix songs all night. During a band break I had a chance to talk with him. Maybe it was the booze but two minutes into our chat I'd realized "hey, this guy's blind". I'd figured out Jeff was just having fun with me based on our topic of conversation and his band mates giggling behind him.

9:55 when he talks about the lyrics: for a blind Musician from birth. Beethoven wasn't deaf in his early days and much of his greatest compositions were from when he was deaf.
Can you see the light is pretty significant for somebody who has never had that experience. I heard Jeff live and also met and got to talk to him on the bus one day. I thank the universe for being there. I've played music professionally on several different instruments but nothing even close to this level.

Dr. John (Mac Rebennack) a.k.a. "The Night Tripper" is another worth reacting to. He had a couple of big hits on the 70s, but had an amazing career and a number of critically acclaimed albums. One of the legends of New Orleans funk.

Late comment, but didn't see anyone else giving due props to this legendary lineup. Yes, Jeff Healey was an amazing guitarist, but to be backed by Dr John (six-time Grammy winning New Orleans legend), Omar Hakim (Weather Report, David Bowie, Miles Davis, Dire Straits, Sting, and current percussion chair at Berklee), and Marcus Miller (Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, David Sanborn, Donald Fagen), that's a dream team.

I've meet a few people who knew his family. They all say that he was a great guy. Being blind meant that he never copied anyone else's playing style, allowing him to develop his own from scratch. He was unique, and his playing was only non-camp element of Roadhouse. It's a shame that he went so young.

Like Ben Folds Five and a couple of others this week, Jeff Healey is a name I've heard of but knew very little about. Truly blown away like you are, Daniel. Another incredible artist, blind from birth, Rachael Flowers, an incredible guitarist but known mainly as a progressive keyboardist on a Wakeman/Emerson level. Karn Evil 9, Close To The Edge, Trilogy, Foreplay/Long Time, her covers are endless. She is both a guilty pleasure and an inspiration.

I don't think Rachel Flowers was born blind. I believe an illness took her eyesight as a toddler. I've seen her perform about 10 times including on board Cruise to the Edge and ProgStock. She is a beautiful person! She had a special relationship with Keith Emerson and learned much from him on the keys.
