Jeff Healey- One of THE nastiest guitarists ever, absolutely unique, and a fellow Canadian. God bless you Jeff. Thank you guys- it's heartwarming seeing the love you have for his talents.
@@paulmorris8762 You're not wrong. I provided security for Colin at a concert he played in N.B. in '91- he walked the aisles amongst the audience with his guitar (wireless), behind his head, playing William Tell Overture. Crazy. And to think he had to audition to get the 'permit' to busk in a Toronto subway station, where he was ultimately 'discovered'.
How many times do you get to see a performance where everyone playing is a legend. Jeff Healey making that strat scream, Marcus Miller beating up that bass, Omar Hakim ripping on the drums and Dr. John smashing the keyboards. Doesn't get better than this folks
Yeah, this was Dr. John and the "Night Music" house rhythm section. All straight MURDERERS. And what a terrific show - top-shelf live music live on TV every weekend.
One of the best Dylan covers out there for sure - and his performance of 'As The Years Go Passing By' in Stuttgart, Germany is incredible, absolutely top-tier stuff!
Jeff Healey, lap or no lap blind or not blind was one of the top 25 guitarists of all time. Jeff was amazing, the cancer that took his sight as a child came back and took his life😢. Angel Eyes is another great song by Jeff, actually all his songs are great, and he played with a lot of other great guitarists. (He just plays a regular guitar) That’s Dr John on piano. Jeff Healey lost his eyesight to cancer when he was one. His Dad gave him a guitar when he was three years old and his arms were to short to hold the guitar the usual way. He was the best just like Stevie Ray Vaughan .Gary Moore. Eric Clapton . Jimmy Page. Jimi Hendrix. Rest in Peace Jeff Healey.
This performance ALWAYS brings me to tears. It’s one of the purest representations of the power of music on so many levels. You have a man who’s sight was taken from him…yet he had an unshakable vision. You have a stripped down band unit of guys who are all monsters in their own right and who’s souls are connected and speaking with one another on another plane. You have it rooted in the blues…need we say more about that? And you have the evidence that music connects us all regardless of our differences or color. Lastly you have some of the most blistering guitar work ever caught on camera. This makes the hair on my neck stand up and appreciate what a gift Jeff was to us all. RIP brother!
The late, Jeff Healey was an amazing guitarist. He made your feet move, your heart sing and your ears smile. Check out his backing band for this number, Omar Hakim on drums, Marcus Miller on bass and Dr John on keys. ALL amazing musicians. THIS IS music. IMHO ...and yes, that is a regular guitar. He is the prime example of learning to adapt to one's situation.
If you noticed, th right hand was playing a guitar style, the left hand is almost like piano motion. Jeff was adopted as a baby and started playing the guitar at age three. Lost both eyes to rare cancer and was plagued by reoccurring tumors over his life finally succumbing to lung cancer at age 41. In his short life, he accomplished more than most do in an average life span. His world was music and had a huge record collection. The style of playing the guitar on your lap is often used by artists that play slide guitar. It’s a blues style that uses a tube like object on one finger that slides along the neck of the guitar. Jeff perform this technique a couple of times. Google give a more musical explanation I think. In any case, he was an exceptional man and is greatly missed. RIP. ❤️
Jeff Healey was a virtuoso and so is his fellow Canadian master guitarist (jazz, blues. rock. big band, all on either acoustic of electric) Colin James - who toured with Stevie Ray Vaughan. Colin -and Jeff did a live acoustic jam (Killin Jive and What Do You Want Me to Do)

Thanks for playing this. Great video and great reaction! Saw Jeff play many times and like everyone else was completely awed by what I saw and heard. Jeff was sooo underrated and sadly unknown. You may never see another group of musicians so together in a performance again. Everyone in this video is a legend, including the host David Sandborn. Dr John on piano, Marcus Miller on bass, and Omar on drums. None of them in Jeff's actual band. Awesome.
I was lucky enough to see him play at his club in Toronto a couple times before he passed. AMAZING shows! Also plays a mean trumpet. He had one of the largest of old jazz recordings and for a while had a jazz show on CBC radio. Rest in peace Jeff.

He and Patrick Swayze both starred in Road House and now sadly, both are gone. He also did an amazing cover of The Beatles While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

The piano player looks like Dr John, a famous musician on his own. He used to be a blues guitarist until he injured his hand in a knife fight. He couldn't play guitar any more, but he could play the piano.
He does not feel a difference in the strings, he can feel the frets - the neck of the guitar, then every note/chord he plays like a piano. Each section of the fret board is like scales on a piano. Y’all are Awesome!! Much love
Jeff was an extraordinary human being and a truly gifted artist. For over two decades, Jeff enjoyed a successful music career that spanned rock, blues and traditional jazz. Grammy nominee and Juno award winner, he was a radio personality, a jazz historian and world famous record collector (owning a collection of 1920’s and ‘30’s jazz 78's that would ultimately top out at over 30,000 records). In addition to countless recording sessions as a guitarist, trumpet player, singer and producer, Jeff also recorded three albums of the traditional American jazz that he loved so much.
if you like Jeff Healey and like the blues, you should react to Jeff's version of the Albert King classic "ad the Years Go Passing By" for Stuttgart Jazz Festival 1995. Asia will be covered in goosebumps I promise.
Probably the third concert I ever went to in my life was Jeff Healey in Richmond, VA. It was fantastic! I feel privileged to have seen and heard him play.
I met Jeff once in Kingston Ontario Canada at my friends small bar with a capacity of 75 people and a few months later he passed away!!! I did buy the whole band a round of beers, which was the least I could do as they were just having a break on tour from Toronto to Montreal and decided to play at a bar for free. Fortunately it was my local pub. Incredible night!!

The Jeff Healy band was the band playing in the movie "Road House " with Patrick Swayze.
Dr. John, on piano, is another person to check out. New Orleans funk at it's finest.
if you like Jeff Healey and like the blues, you should react to Jeff's version of the Albert King classic "ad the Years Go Passing By" for Stuttgart Jazz Festival 1995. Asia will be covered in goosebumps I promise.
Need to see Jeff Healey and Stevie Ray Vaughan together playing live
Probably the third concert I ever went to in my life was Jeff Healey in Richmond, VA. It was fantastic! I feel privileged to have seen and heard him play.
Classic performance!! RIP Jeff... We lost a true musician way too soon.
Every time I see this video, I really like how much the drummer is into this!!
You have to hear the Jeff Healey Band play 'AsThe Years Go Passing By' now
