All hail Quarthon and the greatest album artwork ever. This is the moment when Viking Metal was born. A monster album and my favorite Black Metal/Viking Metal album.
The album artwork is The Wild Hunt of Odin from 1872.
Not to long ago I listened to a Swedish podcast about Under the sign... and they discussed the artwork on that album and talked about tiny details they found that made that cover so good.
They also briefly talked about this album and could not understand why this album with songs about vikings and their mythology and a cover filled with valkyries, Oden and Thor could have anything to do with vikings. My face still hurt from the facepalm I got from hearing that.
Darkthrone, Mayhem, Emporer, celtic frost. So many classic BM bands to explore. Bethlehem is great too.

Celtic Frost is Death/Thrash/Doom Metal. Tom Warrior's previous band, Hellhammer, is the Black Metal one.

Great one guys! I love Bathory very much and it's great to see people get to know them and appreciate them, because I believe that they are not as recognized as they should be. Quorthon's work is a milestone for all black/folk metal. If you haven't listen to their viking era, I highly recommend it: songs like One Rode to Asa Bay, Nordland, Blood and Iron, The Lake, Foreverdark Woods are absolute bangers, both heavy and atmospheric. They are the absolute definition of nordic folk metal. You should definitely react to them, you will love them for sure. Cheers!

i remember buying this album randomly from the metal section of our price in east london.....still got the original vinyl pity im not 18 anymore.....this was a one man band, rq wrote, played and produced a large % of all of bathory material but had a semi regular band to play it live
