I used to hang out at the record store Heavy Sound in Stockholm back in the days and always bumped into Quorthon (Thomas Forsberg), he was a regular. Nice guy and a true metal head.
A fucking amazing record store it was.
RIP Heavy Sound and Quorthon.
Schelin
You lucky bastard lmao that’s awesome
Lucky
Riktigt tungt!
Ah Quorthon. The Chuck Schuldiner of Black Metal. Love this album.
I was just about to ask if he's seen any Death. Personally I like Spirit Crusher, but fuck my opinion.
@@jeffsullivan1678 my first song was that... 😊😊😊 I like the Philosopher most. But i didnt see a lot.
Both legends
Not only is this classic BM but this is the very start of Viking Metal at the same time. All hail Quorthon.
True! As soon as I read this comment The Lake started playing in my head. Such a cool sound.
Your description about his vocals was on point. "You can hear his voice behind his scream".
On point...very Primitive vocals. Like Tribal Scream
You have to listen to "Song Hall up to High / Home of Once Brave" (with no doubt this song)
And "Valhala" or Father to Son, Baptise in fire in ice... Well, the entire Hammerheart's Album is good, so search just for a very good quality Upload. Theres one of the full álbum and the cover is darker and better quality too.
Haven't heard this for years! Thanks to bring this back to me! Such a legendary album! LOVE IT!!!
This song isn't about going to war. It's about hitting up the clubs in the morning. Haha
If you haven't done this before, listen to Under The Sign Of The Black Mark. That album is arguably peak "kvlt" of Bathory's career. Don't get me wrong, Blood Fire Death is a great album. Always contesting for my favorite Bathory album. But i feel BFD is more of a thrash album with viking lyrical theme and BM vocals (BM atmosphere to i guess). UTSOTBM however, is a pure BM album and you should check it out. The highlight tracks are Call From The Grave, Equimanthorn, and Woman Of Dark Desires. Cheers!
amazing, thanks for the info! I'll definitely check out that project soon!
lo-fi production is deliberate and is characteristic of true Black Metal in my mind. One of the many problems with 95% of metal these days (of all sub-genres) is that it sounds too clean.
RIP Quorthon
Yes yes yes Bathory! Welcome to the goat t-shirt club!
I'll have to get a patch for a battle jacket for sure.
One of the godfathers of BM/Folk.. still waiting for the Melvins, Kyuss and Acid Bath :)... good analysis ofvthe theme/mood and bathory song anyway. Keep it coming Juniio! Cheers!
Its a concept album, the whole album tell the stor, this is just the intro.
Our lord Quorthon, May he rest in Valhalla. Btw if you’re looking for more BM in the route or really raw, hateful type shit, I highly recommend “I awoke to a Night of Pain and Carnage” by Judas Iscariot, really grim, disgustingly dark shit, can’t recommend it enough!
That sounds like it would be suitably gnarly, thanks for the suggestion!
Immortal - At the Heart of Winter
Added to the list!
@@JuniioMusic Within the dark mind -Immortal... Or maybe ALL OF THE SONS OF NOTHERN DARKNESS ALBUM.
really...its all good. ALL !!!
Song Hall up to High / Home if Once Brave PLEASE.
First time hearing Bathory. Love the eerie, faintly ominous intro, followed by the requisite sonic onslaught. This almost strikes me as theatrical, in an odd way. (Btw, I found the recording itself somewhat suboptimal, but maybe the rawness was deliberate.) Powerful guitar work, always appreciated in these parts. Classic metal, all in all. Instead of my usual recs, let me suggest something: if one seeks albums that are proto-metal (imho), listen to "Led Zeppelin II" (1969), an album by the berserk British band Uriah Heep called "Look at Yourself" (1971) and an album by the loudest live band I've ever heard (way TOO loud), Deep Purple, called "In Rock" (1970). Seek ye the roots of metal? Don thy headphones, and plunge in, travelers and pilgrims. You shall be mightily rocked.
Yeah you've got that right, the rawness and lo-fi quality is typically deliberate in black metal. This ideology became even more prevalent during the 90's second wave where some artists would seek out the worst possible recording equipment for their work. Definitely and acquired taste, but I've grown to love it!
Nice reaction:) I need to dive into Bathory, always wanted to research their discography, but never found time to do it:( this one will be my inspiration! About Black metal... I am actually far from being BM fan, but I have few things to suggest, some Black to enjoy not only for core fans:) 1) Mgła - Exercises in Futility V & Exercises in Futility VI - perfect atmospheric Black metal, just 10/10. 2) Sólstafir - Lágnætti (or any other song) post Black metal from Iceland, melodic & atmospheric. 3) Batushka - Yektenia 4 - this is one and only mix of Black metal and Orthodox chanting, whole album Liturgiyal is unique and amazing!!! 4)Last but not least Myrkur - Ulvinde amazing female vocals folk-black unforgettable experience:)
Thanks for all the suggestions! Black Metal can definitely get real inaccessible real fast, but there are some bands out there that are good for bridging that gap, like the ones you mentioned. I'll add them to the list!
Just checked out mgła on your recommendation and i am blown away, had to come back and find your comment to say i appreciate the suggestion. Cheers
@@ScottyDnB I am glad you're like it! This band definitely deserves more recognition. Whole Exercises... album is majestic!
For all those who dies is a raw and awesome track by Bathory you should check out.....awesome reaction to this one
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll add it to the list \m/ Glad you enjoyed the video!
Quorthon.. una verdadera leyenda para el metal
Excellent reaction \m/
Inquisition - Those of the night or Imperial hymn for our master satan
Favorite song of all time
Dude you gotta check out When the Levee breaks by Led Zeppelin (if you haven't already)
Or The Day that never comes by Metallica
I've heard the Led Zep song but not the Metallica one, I'll add it to the list!
We just released a cover from their song ''Twilight of the gods'' if you're interested to react 🙂
BURZUM - DUNKELHEIT. An infamous black metal band right there for ya bud.
Varg is the very definition of infamy. However, I have already heard Dunkelheit, several times, so I can't really do a reaction for it. Got any other trve kvlt suggestions?
@@JuniioMusic I dare you to listen to the entire DeathGrips "song" - Steroids
@@danielkallsen2023 haha challenge accepted, I'll add it to the list!
I guess you could call it a mixtape, a mish-mash of songs with no official names
@@JuniioMusic Also, a for real Epilepsy Warning on the video from the bands channel
