A pair of Christians listen to Bathorys Oden rides to Norland/ A Fine Day To Die
R.I.P Quorthon
:(
May he rest his head in the halls of Valhalla
In memoriam, brother.
Rip 🤘🙁
RIP Master
It still blows my mind that this came out in 1988...
For real
zombiTrout. The guitar tone gave me a very Ride the Lightning era Metallica vibe - never heard this song before and i kinda' liked it.
Checkout the first album by "Piledriver", they were Black Metal before Bathory.
I randomly came across it in 1989, just a year after I started listening to metal at all. Warped my young mind forever.
@@Blutroth Came out same year as the self titled Bathory album
BATHORY... one of the greatest bands to ever exist in the metal scene. Plus Quorthon (he wrote all the songs and most of the music) was a genuine master of every thing he wrote, RIP Quorthon.. you will always be in our hearts. \m/
he's a fkn legend
legend
Quorton was really a genious one man band
fun fact: film director Jonas Åkerlund played drums in Bathory 1983-4
hell yeah ma !! A fine day to die/Oden Rides To Nordland! on full volume is so fucking gooodd its insane
Fun fact his Daddy paid for all of this
Another fun fact he never played live,
he had session musicians and his father Börje "Boss" Forsberg support his project. No matter the support of third parties, Bathory continues to be a one-man band and a single mastermind.
@@David-Jm i read somewhere that he did some live shows at the begining of his career but then got bored and quit doing them ,and sadly there's not actual footage .
I think you’re trying to say that most Black Metal is more focused on treble and less on bass which plays a factor on how “heavy” a song would sound.
I'd go as far as suggesting that the "heaviness" of heavy metal is a matter of the contrasts, including those contrasts between the lower-end and the treble... to me, the trebly black metal and the more bass-heavy down-tuned brutal death-metal, as well as the non-stop high-speed metal and the plodding pace of funeral/ambient/shoegaze metal alike lose out on much of the contrast that would lend it a heavier sound.
For this song, you've got those ethereal acoustic strings and keyboards contrasting with those beautiful, booming drums and the buzzing guitars, while the mid-paced tempo provides enough room for the faster bits (especially in the other songs on the album), and the slower, more atmospheric parts to open up some contrast, and gives those wonderful, broad riffs room to breathe and travel. Even Quorthon's voice also has a lot of great texture to it, lending it a little more variety than usual for the more monotonous shrieked vocals of black metal (or the low bass belch of brutal death vocals!) alone have.
Black metal is heavy
Yeah, off course it's heavy. Quorthon (guitar, vocals, main songwriter) is one of the best songwriters ever in metal, not like some this today's overrated people in music. And on most of the albums he was alone, so he played every instrument, guitars, drums, bass, because it was hard to find bandmates so he decided to do everything by himself and he also recorded, mixed, produce everything with his father. So he was just normal guy from Sweden who loved music and didn't want any fame or something like that, he just wanted to be a musician since he was a little boy. I mean he with other bands pioneered two metal genres (black metal and viking metal), there isn't to many people who can say that.
But the early albums had members didnt they?
@@outis439-A First album had, for second and third albums I'm not sure. Many people to this very day are not sure if he was the only guy on some albums or he wasn't? Quorthon was a mysterious guy and he didn't give too much information about himself and the band, he just wasn't interested in fame, popularity or in selling many albums as possible, he just wanted to make music and he fuckin did, created two metal genres! He started to give some information about the band in middle 90's towards his death in 2004. If you are interested, you can check some radio interviews on youtube, where he talks about himself and the band.
@@filipnezak2084 It's Quorthon, NOT Quarthone!
He used a drum machine and sometimes hired musicians to help but on his later albums he did everything himself except for drums he even payed personally for the production of his only music video
All we know for sure is that Jonas Åkerlind has made his career boasting about drumming for Bathory (for 2-3 weeks)
Finally! You guys should also check out Windir- Journey to the End, Ending, or Arntor Ein Windir.
Very good choice
I had originally been saying Journey to the End but I feel Fagning is one of the best entry points to Windir. I love Journey to the End but the last half of the song is very different.
@@khellendross3573 i can get that. i have a feeling that since they liked dunkleheit they might like journey to the end. I could be wrong though i figured theyd like the flesh and the power it holds but nope.
Windir is such a unique band. Journey to the End, Fanging, Blodssvik, Likbør are all good choices.
Journey to the end is the last song on the album, if you listen to the song by itself the ending might seem a little weird.
Only problem is the Sogndal dialect, unless they do something English from 1184 or later, not seen any proper translation you get the gist from Google but that's about it.
AHHHH YEYEYEYEYE, I'm so pumped you guys finally did this. This album in particular was the transition between Bathory's early black metal material to Hammerheart (their first true "viking metal" album), this song and the title track in particular are fucking great epics. I hope you guys delve deeper into Bathory so you can get a sense as to why many, including myself, consider Bathory the ALPHA AND OMEGA of black metal and extreme metal in general. Hail Quorthon!
how can manilla road and bathory fan treat these f466ots seriously. ur a fkn poser
Orgy of silence
Conspiracy of peace
Only the sound
Of the cold northern breeze
Twinsun sink fading
Behind the black lake
Asleep is the mountains
Yet the night is awake
Strange is the night
Now black stars rise
And many moons circle
Through silent the night
Along the black mountainside scattered
By the campfires awaiting the dawn
Two times a hundred men in battles
Tried by the steel in the arrow, axe and the sword
By battle worn hunger torn awaitening
For the sun to break through the cold haze
And for the banners of Ebal to appear
On the hill in the sun's first warm rays
The elder among the men looked deep into
The fire and spoke loud with pride
Tomorrow is a fine day to die
Now the morning advance from far east
Now the sun breaks through dust clouds and haze
Now a forest of spears appears on the hill
And steel shines bright in the sun's first rays
Die
Die
Die
Die
My ffffff gawd... Vin, you completely destroyed the intro.. That intro is epic, it sets the mood so well for the rest of the song! Turn off your damn phone !!! Baaaaah !
ikr?! why he cant put down his phone for 10 damn minutes while he is making a video......disrespect at its finest, to the music and to the viewers
I was so disappointed to witness that, I was like "f*ck yeah, they'll love this intro", then THAT happened.
It was Quorthon calling reminding him to turn off the fckn phone!
LMFAO
his boy varg called him
One of my favorites. One of the most important early black metal tunes
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES! Enter The Eternal Fire or Blood Fire Death next!!!
ÔÔÔÔÔÔÔÔÔ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES!
Blood Fire Death is definitely where it's at. A rather epic piece.
Zachariah O'Dell Maybe even one rode to asa bay
@@coltonchristie8268 They reacted to that already.
Haven't jammed to Bathory is such a long time. Thanks for playing and reviewing. Good to hear old school stuff again
Goosebumps! I love this song so much damnit
Runka Snorkråka aka Quorthon was truly a visionary guy.
WrathWithinMe don’t forget legendary bathory drummer Vans McBurger
Quorthons sense of humor is awesome..... As Razorfist has stated that roughly translates to "Jerk-off Snotbird"!!!!!
@@shaunshuping9768 Now, I'm too old to remember, but I believe that is the name he gave to a British reporter =)
Great song, long awaited!
Oh yeah, Bathory is amazing band and Qhuorton r.i.p.
Hope he's not resting in peace, instead I wish he's fighting in the ravengod's hall among the chosen ones
@@TheGymnosofista that too
Finally this song is epic.
the most beautiful song I've heard in my life!
I've been listening to bathory since 1983 I have All ways loved his music and still have 100 percent respect for quarthon, may he rest in peace in Valhalla
Glad you guys did this one. Especially for the dude that requested it in the comments of EVERY video for months now lol. Love what you guys are doing. Hails from Tennessee!
Bathory - Twilight of the gods
Actually quite interested to hear what a couple of American Christians would make of that song.
@@leifkjnny5424 probably wouldn't , or would refuse to understand it!!
Many a day I’ve been screaming, long were the nights of pleading, been crawling on my knees, begging like the madman… Many a brother has done the same. Finally, the time has come; I can lay my sorry soul to rest. First, I’ll watch the review though.
MY LORD
:]
@@jon9428 Salutations, hails! It finally happened! Haha
Is this the exact video that you wanted them to react?
@@ImmortalMadwolf Yeah I explain in the comments why I believe Oden's Ride Over Nordland should be included.
Hahahaha your request has been finally been heard by the black metal pagan gods
Esse álbum é como uma guerra, começa com a cavalaria e uma certa calma, e tudo explode em agressividade, depois de muita batalha termina de forma majestosa em Blood Fire Death com a calmaria do riff final, majestoso
This is song is not about Jihad, it's about Oskoreia. Oskoreia typically involve a ghostly or supernatural group of hunters passing in wild pursuit. The hunters may be either elves or fairies or the dead, and the leader of the hunt is often a named figure associated with Oden. Seeing the Oskoreia was thought to presage some catastrophe such as war or plague, or at best the death of the one who witnessed it. People encountering the Hunt might also be abducted to the underworld or the fairy kingdom. In some instances, it was also believed that people's spirits could be pulled away during their sleep to join the cavalcade.
You guys should do Call from the Grave by Bathory. It's from one of their first three black metal albums and it's a masterpiece as well.
Truly a masterpiece
Such a good song. Its easy to see why so many bands took inspiration from these guys. 10/10.
Yay, glad we got this one done. Lots of people were asking for this one.
Now let’s challenge you two and have you react to Deathspell Omega- A Chore For The Lost. IF YOU DARE!!
Such an amazing song. amazing Bathory!!
Love the Sodom pfp
Bathory is a great inspiration for make my music...
David ᛃᛁᛗᛖᚾᛖᛉ how original
@@davidblair3845 Maybe you do not know that many musicians in the metal scene worldwide were inspired by the music of Quorthon and those musicians made original music, maybe you can show us something more original? Or are you just sitting in front of your screen because you have nothing smarter to do? In the world there are two types of people, those who do and those who observe.
Interesting choice putting a fine day to die with the intro!
I absolutely love this
THank you so much for finally doing this!!! YES!!
Thank you so much for reviewing such a monumental song off one of his many masterpieces. Quorthon was such an amazing writer and composer. He not only helped launch the first wave of black metal but also single handedly created the Viking Metal sub genre. His pride for his homeland, his love for his true beliefs and his admiration for his great pagan ancestors are absolutely inspiring. Great review and reaction Vin and Sori.
RIP Quarthon, a genius musician and the Godfather of Black Metal
Still sounds as good as it did 30 years ago.Quorthon was a true musical pioneer
10/10. Vocals fit the driving style perfectly. I can see how this would Influence this genre exponentially
so glad you listened to this has been a classic for over 30 years, enjoy guys.....xx
Have to say it's great to see you guys doing this, feels like it's been a top comment for months!
I still have this on cassette.
MASTERPIECE!!!!! one man, one band, métal Scandinave... the best!
Long story short, this song is the connection between the Black Metal Bathory and the Viking Metal Bathory!
I suggest you from the viking era,Twilight of the gods (the complete 14 minutes version "Prologue-Twilight of the Gods-Epilogue")
About time. That, in my humble opinion, is the greatest metal song ever recorded. Their song Blood, Fire Death is a very close second.
I listened to this as a child and it opened up a new metal world for me. All hail!
Bathory - Sacrifice, or Born for Burning, now time for the Black metal bathory
Indeed. That was their BM era.
No Son Of The Damned?
Finally Paranoid Android got this request done! Think he requested both songs cause the first track bleeds into the second song. Personally the intro is a little to long for me but it does set up the mood and a kick ass surprise when the metal blasts in
Right on! I think skipping the intro when you're familiar with it is fine, but for a first listen I believe it must go with the song itself, really creates an atmosphere and inner imagery. So glad they finally did it, haha
We need the full reaction/review of King Diamond’s Abigail album, right?
Now that you’ve heard one song off that album, you’ll want to get the whole story 😉
I know you’ll gonna like it.
”The birth of Abigail would soon be realized. The second coming of a devil in disguise”...
Celtic Frost - Circle Of The Tyrants from "To Mega Therion" album, please!
Yeah come on!!! Need some Celtic Frost reviews
Definitely!
Fuck yeah
Cant believe they haven’t reacted to CARCASS yet
Agreed
Alleph da Costa Lol I’d love to hear them react to any Reek of Putrefaction song 😂
My introduction to Carcass came from their 'Peel Sessions' EP, which was about as unearthly, weird, eroded, alien, and decayed as anything Carcass in particular - and grindcore in general - had ever done before or since; the 'Peel Sessions' recording sounded like it was performed in another universe and broadcast from the other side using the most primitive and makeshift of experimental equipment so it could be recorded for scientific study by human scientists....
They should start with Heartwork
Cosmic Sea yes heartwork is a good introduction to carcass
Still to this day an amazing piece of work.....🤘
Haven’t listened to this song in a long time and I can sing along with every single word. The thing I love about Bathory is his voice, the tone on the guitar that’s consistent yet different on every album, and you can always hear the bass no matter what album or song.
Just a truly amazing album. I was about 16 when this came out and it blew my mind, continues too now.
About damn time
Hey! The Trve Kvlt have done Bathory ✔
What's next? 😉
I'll put your requests on a list.
Deathspell Omega - A Chore For The Lost 😉
Dimmu Borgir - The Serpentine Offering
Arkona-v pogonie za beloj ten’yu
Dissection - The Somberlain
Nightbringer - The Otherness of Being
Hypocrisy - The Final Chapter
Deathspell Omega - Kenose I
Bathory were a very important band. As a reminder, you two should listen to your reaction to One Rode to Asa Bay again, just to see in what ways their sound changed significantly. This also sounds a lot heavier than most black metal because this came out in 1988, and Bathroy was part of the first-wave of black metal, which was still heavily rooted in thrash metal. The second-wave of black metal that originated in Norway in the early 90s took heavy influence from Bathory and several other bands and evolved the sound to more of what you're familiar with when you think of black metal of today. Of all of the so-called first-wave black metal bands, I would still say that Bathory was the most important and still sounds the closest to modern black metal.
Bathory was a one man band.
@@XPGrindDeathking Generally, Bathory may as well have been. But through out most of Bathory's time, Quorthon did have a drummer and usually had a bass player with him. They changed frequently and didn't get much spotlight, and so easy to forget, but they were there enough for Quorthon to consider them more than guest musicians in some of his later interiews. Where he specifically questioned why people just thought of them as guest musicians.
BATHORY!!!!!!!! Thank you guys so much for making these videos!!!
Yeah the Horse you hear is The Giant 8 Legged Horse named Sleipnir which was given to Odin as gift from Loki 😁🤟
This song makes me feel proud to be Norse. And it makes me proud to be Black Metal. RIP Quorthon

Do more of these guys! This is badass!
Candlemass - Demon's Gate
Judas Priest - Cathedral Spires
Black Sabbath - Cross of Thorns
Quorthon was without a doubt a brilliant musician and composer. It is the best

The lyrics and the artwork is based on the Northern European tradition of the Wild Hunt or Furious Host. Odin with the Valkyries ride in the nightsky to take along with them in Valhalla the souls of the dead people that fell in the battlefield. In the other European countries, the tradition is around other local deities (Hecate, Wudan, the Faerie Lady, Perchta etc)
damn fucking love Bathory, dont know why many people dont know this legendary black metal band, they were like the first black metal band out there
Most extreme metal fans like them? At least here in Scandinavia.

Opus Dei or Reaping Death
Bathory was one very talented guy, who played every instrument himself, and produced this classic himself. Tomas Forsberg (stage name Quorthorn) sadly died in 2004 due to heart failure. They stopped touring back in 1985 as he couldn't be bothered arranging gigs.
Very influential guy.
FINALLY homie gets his song done, props to the Alliance!
The choral part in the intro sounds like Carl Orff's Carmina Burana - good stuff!
I love this. I own the album since 10+ years ago.
I gotta get myself some Bathory! You're the coolest Christians I've ever seen! And I know butch nuns, a hippie Catholic priest who played Dylan in Catholic school, a Goth ex-nun, two pastors of LGBT-affirming churches, and a Christian sensei who taught me Jackie Chan moves to nu-metal! And I'm an Atheist, with mostly Wiccan, Atheist, and Buddhist friends!
