"Tolkien practically invented the fantasy genre" - Well... not really. You mean Epic Fantasy. Tolkien took inspiration from Epic Poetry from across the Europe, and combined languages. In fact, the entire concept of the Lord of the Rings is sung, rather than told. Eru sings. Tolkien was greatly inspired by the premise of Epic Poetry & history of surrounding countries as well as the Italian and Balkan regions, which is filled with a rich history of Fantasy themes. You could argue that his concepts got widely popular, however.

I've heard so many people get upset at why Sauron reached down to grab Isildur, exposing his hand to being very easily cut off and it does seem like a huge plot hole, but there is context missing from the movies to explain. Sauron was not armed when this happened. He killed Gil-Galad by lifting him by the face and burning him to death with the heat of his hands, and then he killed Elendil by throwing him into the rocks, and the sword was broken under his body. Sauron WAS mortally wounded after this, and Isildur cut the ring from his hand as his spirit was leaving his body.
I wish they would have included Gil-Galads death in the movies! He was the very last high king of the Noldor and his death was arguably a far bigger deal than Elendil.

      @earendilthemariner5546 2 роки тому +17

To be fair, and i dont mean this as an insult, but they dont really know LoTR. Hobbits already live longer than Men (minus the Numenoreans) so Bilbo being 111 isnt the result of the Ring really (but Gollum's age was, surely). Plus, Merry, Pippin, Sam, Frodo, and Bilbo arent even their real names (technically).
They are missing a lot of context, like the Wizards being angel-like beings (same with Sauron and Durin's Bane), elven immortality with only a select few being able to choose mortality, etc. Círdan is the oldest Elf and is like 10,000 years old. Hell, Narsil itself is 6500 years old.
I really, really, need to reread LoTR and The Silmarillion.
Edit: about Gil-Galad's death, it wouldve been cool to see that and Sauron just being an absolute monster
Edit edit: now i gotta make Círdan or Gil-Galad in Skyrim. And i can rename weapons i enchant so i can name something Aeglos

Galadriel was older than Gil-galad. The granddaughter of Finwe himself, from whom Feanor also sprang. After Melian returned to the Blessed Realm, she could have been taken as queen of the Noldor. (Not sexism, but tradition.)

There's still the problem that he has gauntlets and the sword cuts right through it but I wasn't fully aware of the details you mentioned, it does help some things. I too would've liked seeing more of the previous battle but I guess they were trying to establish Sauron as an intimidating force so seeing him weakened from battle without a buildup to it may not have seemed right for the team working on these movies and the intro is already a bit lengthy. Were they right? I don't know but that's my guess for why they did it this way

Boromir's death breaks me every single time. The fact that the first things he tells Aragorn are that Merry and Pipin were taken and that he tried to take the ring from Frodo just makes me cry instantly. Especially when the next films show how reluctant he was to go anywhere near the ring. Also broke me even more when, during a recent viewing of this film I realized that Aragorn takes his bracers with the white tree of Gondor on them.

Boromir's death is the most medieval element in LOTR. Tolkien deliberately calls back to the death of Roland, who was Charlemagne's nephew in the legend, at the hands of mountain raiders. There you find the same details of the horn being blown to call for aid and the magical relic sword Durendal, that's almost an anagram of Anduril.

I always feel so bad for the former Numenorreans, Elves, and Dwarves that fought against Sauron in the Last Alliance. Imagine you're one of the absolute GIGACHADS that pushed Sauron all the way back to Mordor, you besiege the original Tower of Barad-Dûr for 7 YEARS, and then Sauron himself sorties out from the siege and forces a huge battle on the slopes of Mount Doom itself.
You think you'll be alright as long as you just fight the Orcs, and then you hear the crunch of the heaviest boots you've ever heard. A feeling of unimaginable malice and fear washes over you and your fellow soldiers. Suddenly Sauron is standing mere meters from you, and his mace is almost as tall as you are. Then he raises it, and you pray to Eru/Aüle that he somehow misses you.
Sauron himself was, in my opinion, the most vile and abhorrent being in all of LotR, even Morgoth doesn't compare. Morgoth literally couldn't help being evil as Eru basically created him that way, but Sauron consciously chooses to be the worst being in existence. When he fights Elrond, the High King of the Noldor Gil-Galad, Elendil, and Isildur, he literally burned Gil-Galad to death with his physical touch, and it's specifically stated that he crushed Elendil beneath his mace. He absolutely destroys Eregion and Ost-In-Edhil (the place the Fellowship stopped at before trying to cross the mountains), and tortured Celebrimbor to death to try and find the Elven Rings before cutting him to pieces and using him as a banner. He tricked a man named Gorlim by showing him a fake ghost of his dead wife and saying he'd be reunited with her, then laughed at the guy's naivety and killed him mercilessly. He furthered Morgoth's twisted experiments by creating beasts like the Olog-Hai, Nazgûl, and the Black Uruks that Saruman later "perfected" into Uruk-Hai. He almost certainly released the Great Plague that completely devastated all of Middle-Earth only a couple centuries prior to the movies, with there being info that Sauron's armies and allies were hit just as bad as the "good guys", if not even worse. He also killed all of the Entwives that Treebeard talks about being lost. The Brown Lands next to the Dead Marshes are where the Gardens of the Entwives were, and Sauron literally had the entire area burned to ashes so they couldn't continue making new Ents or hide Elves in a forest near to the Black Gate

"Mary and Pippen shouldnt have come to begin with." Eru Illuvatar moves in mysterious ways. Without mary and pippen the quest would have failed several times. Mary and Pippen secure frodo and sams passage to bree. In the two towers, Its mary and pippen through their convincing of tree beard that leads to the destruction of isenguard, and the capture and imprisonment of Saruman, and later in the return of the king, Pippen not only serves as a distraction for Sauron to target gondor allowing Frodo and sam to pass into mordor, he then lights the beacons calling for aid, and saves foramir's life. I watch the extended trilogy almost every December.
2:49- 2:50, pipeweed isn't really marijuana, Tolkien actually likens it more to tobacco, as he was fond of smoking pipes.
5:23- 5:27, another name for hobbits is halflings (their name originating 'cause they're half the size of the average human, so we're talking 3- 3'5" more or less)
21:22- 21:26, elves are technically immortal (with the oldest known elf in Tolkien's works being Cirdan the Shipwright at 10741- 11364 years old), though they can be killed

OMG-OMG-OMG... I watched this because I missed to have more LotR footage to watch... but I didn't expect having soooo much fun with this... sometimes I was hollering with laughter (e.g. at the Buckleberry Ferry: "C'mon Frodo, RUN - we don't have all day!!"), and sometimes I got teary... this was so great to watch!! I imagine there are sequences of this for the next two parts... looking very much forward to those... 💖

I fully believe that Billy Boyd either was told or decided to be that broken up at the end because the whole misadventure was Pippin's fault. There's a reason he's almost in the fetal position after they flee the mines

Well I'll have to slow down for a period of time for movie mashups but I have plenty of music mashups coming up since it'd the backbone of this channel. Glad I added efap, they added life to these videos💙💙

@@MixMatch53 the writers are bereft of creativity. Thats why many reactors have called soulless, boring, etc. They've broken many Tolkien rules. Ratings are low. Even Kenobi ranked higher.

Trust me it was maddening. And they were only the theatrical releases, unlike the Extended cuts most people choose nowadays. One of my favorite christmas traditions with my dad for those three years. Just head to see family while on christmas break in middle school and seeing them at the local small theater. I think the only thing thats similar was the wait for Infinity War and then Endgame. but so much worse cuz i'm a multigenerational geek so i grew up with these stories from my parents.
