  • I needed to install a new threshold on this concrete slab foundation. Here are the steps I took to get a new aluminum threshold into place on this concrete floor.
Tools you're going to need to replace this old threshold are:
    A hammer drill: amzn.to/2XcwPM1
    A 5/32 masonry bit (if using 3/16 Tapcons): amzn.to/2IA1TkT
    3/16" Tapcons: amzn.to/2DdHtuy
In this threshold repair, I had to actually pour some quick set concrete patch to fill a giant crack. That's why there were no holes from the existing threshold.
When replacing a new threshold on a concrete slab, if there are no holes present, you're going to have to drill some. This is where a good hammer drill and masonry bit come in.
Also, make sure you measure the width of your door. You don't want to get a threshold that is too short!

I am guessing a regular drill for wood and metal won't work.

No, you really need a hammer drill and a masonry bit to install a new threshold in a concrete slab.

Ok. So my bugle head won't recess into the threshold. What to do now? I use a Phillips Tapcon 2x1/4". It's all the way in but the head seems too thick.

I’m a dental hygienist. Think I can do this myself? Lol. I’ll pass your video along to my husband. My basement threshold is done and can literally be kicked out of the way.

Sure, I don't see any reason why you can't do it. You will need a hammer drill and a masonry drill bit though, regular drills and drill bits are too light to drill holes in concrete for your threshold.

Do I use "high speed" or "low speed" when drilling into the concrete?

Low speed the bits tend to chip and break
