Fun MK fact: the reason Goro looks like a toy is because he sort of was. To preserve the look of the game, they made poseable Goro models and captured his moves through stop-motion. Out of the two original Goro models that were made, Ed Boon has one, and the other was posed so much that it fell apart over time.
Mortal Kombat 1 is such a goofy game looking back on it, Kano has a 360 motion, Sonya had an infinite, and Reptile is not only a fusion of Scopion and Sub Zero, but is also damn near impossible to get to without mastering the AI; Love this game
@@typhlocube9359 you gotta get a flawless victory and do some other shit on the pit stage whenever the silhouette of Santa (yes seriously) passes by the moon. Such a weird and specific thing to do so don’t feel bad about not knowing about him lol

heh. I love watching Justin playing the old games and seeing just why older gamers are the way they are when they play. Back then, the words,"Fairness" and "mercy" were obviously not written into the code.
I love revisiting the mk1 arcade ladder anytime I fire up the cabinet, such a cheap run so fond of great memories! Thank you Ed Boon & John Tobias! Also please do more klassic mk videos! 🥷🏽😎
The only game I believe I got a shot against Justin. For those ones who saw him in the endurance round (kano-raiden) and screamed to him every round he didn't properly punished raiden at the beginning of the switch (at least with freezing), I feel you.
Watching one of the greatest fighting game players ever play all these old school games from my childhood is MAGIC! Thanks a lot Justin. You're making me laugh AND taking me to the feel train all at once!
14:34 just to see the game cranked up to impossible on that round! 😄 Pure input reading and animation canceling into moves! 😄 Loving the content on this channel
Damn Justin, your wife is pretty chill. If my mom would have ever caught my dad letting my brother or me watch him playing his “adult” games she would have lost it.
Your daughter is absolutely adorable. If she had stayed on screen I'm pretty sure her cuteness would have grown until it tore apart the fabric of the universe! P.S. I laughed so hard when she covered your eyes! It's like she knows the game is too violent and you shouldn't be playing it! 🤣
If I remember correctly, you could pretty easily cheese Goro with Liu Kang's fireball and the kick combo to create distance for the fireball right? or am I melding 1 and XI again? XD
It was funny to watch against Goro moments! But, after MK1 I'm curious What MK game will be next ?! MK2 ?! )) Or Mk1 on hard mode + against Reptile or might be other secret character like Sonya 1000 ?! Btw, how about some fan-made and modded mk games ?! I think this will be interesting challenge for you too!
When I was a kid, my dad had this for sega cd (which at the time was really about as close to the arcade as you could get). He trolled me by setting it on max difficulty before I came in the room and tried to get me to beat it. I threw the controller out of frustration (again, kid) and I was grounded for like a week after that and told I was never allowed to play his game system again
Compared to MK2's AI, MK1's AI is pretty manageable, MK2's AI can get lost in a barrel full of acid and its parents left wondering why it hasn't come home for Christmas Dinner.
mk1 is a menace of a game jwong. best strat is to do crazy juggle combos or just cheese with sub freeze and sonya leg grab, that or ai manipulation. ggs jwong! love to see the videos 🎉🎉
I always picked Liu Kang because his fatality is super easy (360, no button) and it somehow qualifies as an uppercut for a stage fatality. This is extremely important in a game where there is barely any diversity in moves, looking cool isn't a thing, and you can't cheat to pick a boss.
I was an MK head while other folks were mastering Street Fighter. I started with MK2 for a reason, though. The difference between the first game and the second game is so great that it might as well be different series. I enjoy the early games in the series mostly because of the story and lore. Once they got to MK4, everything went downhill. One day, me and Justin will have to play MK together; we'd be evenly matched, I think.
The mispronunciations of words from My Lord JWong rivals the divine comedy of mispronunciations displayed by My Lord, Knight, and Captain of the Fort at RLM, Richard Evans. This is very pleasing! ❤
My friend & I mowed so many yards every weekend to take the bus & play this cabinet at the ice rink or the movie theater depending on the day. Ppl would be quartered up 10+ deep to take on winner. We helped keep the MK team fed & the local bus service running lol
There were five chip versions of MK1 that I know of. Each one made the game harder and fixed exploits. I don't think Reptile came until the third chip.
You can't slide sweep Shang Tsung in general because he's floating in the air. Also you almost had the Goro loop to easily defeat him. After knocking him to the ground immediately freeze him as he kips up. The punch chain is a CPU cheat. When it does it, the character stays in place unlike a player, who moves back.
Dude I'd love it if you had a counter showing how many loses you have on your 1st game experiences man cause your too good dude lol I'm not questions it I believe I'd just like to see how much better you did than I did on my 1st try lol
The comments on the stream where so stupid on Goro... "he looks like clay", "he's a toy lol", "is this Clayfighters?" Yeah kids, just try to make a game with almost no budget at all and became on of the most famous gaming franchises in the world. That Goro's clay doll is classic.
A cheese against Goro in MK I when using Sub-Zero is to start throwing your freeze right when Goro hits the ground (so you have to knock him down first). The freeze will catch him in a frame state of getting up where it cannot/never blocks. Uppercut, slide, freeze, repeat. Works even at the hardest arcade level. Does not work against Kintaro in MK II. ____ MK AI for the first three games was truly horrible. It was either "Come spank me, Daddy" easy or "I will rip the guts of your future grandchildren out of your chest" ungodly hard. The input reads on the latter difficulty is real. This can be noted if you are retreating and do a back jump as the computer does a forward jump at exactly the same time. MK I and II were known for the AI to relax a bit on the input reads on the secound round if the computer won the first one. Then it would be back to Cheese Factor 10 (Aye Aye, Captain) for the third round.
Until several months ago, I have no idea what kinda gibberish Raiden says when he performs the Torpedo attack... all I heard was 'Johny bought a car!!!' or something along those lines. The actual story was pretty hilarious; the actor for Raiden accidentally smashed his balls while performing the Torpedo move, and the voice actor took consideration recording Raiden's agony by saying those gibberish lines to 'show' Raiden's pain and torment. Here's the video of it: ua-cam.com/video/HGL7kWM5AkA/v-deo.html
I know a lot of people used to like the SEGA version more, bc of the blood code, but the SNES version looked closer to the arcade version, than the SEGA version did.
BTW, Justin, any chance that you could do a video of Primal Rage?? This was the game I used to play in the arcade whenever the Mortal Kombat arcade was backed up. It was one of my favorite fighting games of all-time, and I recently bought the PS1 version, which looks really close to the arcade version.
This was pretty much an updated version of Pit Fighter to cash in on Street Fighter 2's success. Imo, the Shaw Bros style kung fu atmosphere was perfect for MK; it really lost its way after this
I remember when this came out in the arcade and you were like a god if you could beat an endurance match and there are 3 of them. People would stand in line just to attempt to beat them so you could get to Goro.
Goro in MK1 wasn't too horrible, it's usually when I fight Kintaro in MK2 that almost made me rage quit back in the day. But I will thank MK2 for my bae in the series (yes, looking at you, Kitana!! 😍🤣) BTW, that silly but cute daughter of yours...🤣🤣...how old is Harper now, Justin??
