- It's been a while since a fighting game has made me want to rage quit... We're BACK with some more horror fighting games for the Halloween special we're doing this week and this time I play the arcade mode for Mortal Kombat 4. Please enjoy my suffering.

I never EVER thought I'd see you play this of all MKs. Shinnok was so disappointing in this game that it's hilarious. When u pass Goro, you pretty much beat the game.
I remember as a kid this was one of my favorite MK games but looking back now I think i was just too forgiving of games cus back then I rarely ever got a new game so any game I got I played over and over again all the time. For some reason I never truly realized how janky the game felt and looked until now lol

Even as a kid I noticed this. He was already a playable character and the same size as the average kombatant. Sure I lost to him a few times but not nearly as much as Goro

This is easily my favourite Mortal Kombat game. It’s the first game in the series I’ve ever played. So many memories with this game.

MK2 ist my favourite MK - ist's so satisfying to beat the mostly cheap AI with his own weapons...
I love that legendary continue screen, so fitting for the Halloween season.

I always knew that Goro was the actual final boss of the game than Shinnok ever was.
Did you see Shinnok's bio card in Armageddon? Ed Boon himself even admits regretting having Shinnok as the final boss.
Is the same thing in MK 1,Shang Tsung is very easy to beat,Goro is the real boss in MK1.
I loved Goro in here. Somehow him running super fast makes him scarier. Like this giant mountain of muscle is running a marathon now and combine that with the impact of his punches here. Then when I saw what they did to him in Deception and Armageddon and part of me died. He's super stubby there, like he got hit with a car compactor.
@@CalciumChief Is a good Goro in MK X,is tall like Goro from MK4 and look like the one from MK1,is have the best design in MK X and is fast and combos are deadly 😀 In MK11 they dint bring him back,but its ok because the game is bad and slow.
@@Master_Blaster_84 I've not watched enough X Goro to say much. He is better than Armageddon, but he would never have the power behind his attacks 4 Goro did, simply because of not being a sub-boss.

When you put the difficulty on Ultimate, I knew you were in for a surprise lol
Here is a tip for playing as Sub-Zero:After performing the ice slide,i highly suggest running back to the opponent then perform a throw.Not only is it guaranteed to hit but also deals a high amount of damage
I remember playing this when it came out, some guy using Reiko was awarded maximum damage for using the consistent arm grab. So much stuff in this game to learn about It's crazy
It was extremely easy getting Maximum damage with a lot of characters. The game was so broken that their only solution to avoid infinites was having that Maximum Damage bullshit. Still I am pretty nostalgic about this not gonna lie.
@@txcforever True but you have tô admit that its essencially The Best way ever made on fighting games tô make sure a infinite actually ends. In any fighting game tô this day, they try all sorts of things but infinites are never truly gone. With the maximum damage thing, they are gone in a way at least.
The fact scorpion can chain his most infamous special is so fucking funny to me tbh
This is such a funny game to me. I was obsessed with the series when I was 7 years old, but I never had a PS1 or N64 during that time. So I've spent more time reading/watching stuff about MK4 than I have playing it. By the time I had a PS1 in 97 I had discovered other violent/gory games like Resident Evil, Twisted Metal 2, Tenchu, Doom, Duke Nukem, etc.
I'm not sure if anyone in the chat said this at the time, but Sub-zero's damage is actually scaled after you freeze them. ie, the opponent takes less damage when they are frozen. That's why your uppercuts were doing almost nothing against Jarek and Tanya, because you froze them first. And yes, that also means the actual combos you do after freezing them are scaled too, though not quite as much as uppercuts are. They would still do more damage if they were not frozen though.

The CPU actually gets more aggressive when you pull out a weapon. For example if you have the CPU set on easy, normally the CPU would stand there and hit you once every once in a while, pull out a weapon and the CPU will either run towards you to combo you or spam multiple long range special moves.
Streets of rage flashbacks I swear they know when you got the toolie and they knock that shit out of your hands
This game is hilarious, my fav part is the characters' voices. They sound way too funny

I absolutely love this game. This is, to me, despite it's flaws, jank, and aging graphics, the perfect Mortal Kombat. I would really like to see a remaster of mk gold! new coat of paint and some online is all I want. This game is the bees knees Justin.

At first I was like, "It's just MK4 for Halloween week? Why pick this? This game ain't got horror or scares." Then Justin turned the difficulty to Ultimate and it all made sense 😆
Man, the CPU in this is brutal. I don't remember ever playing it on Ultimate when I had it (on 64) as a kid, but I gotta admit: there's not a lot that's scarier _in the entire fighting game genre_ than game balancing and damage scaling this skewed against you, lol.
Loved MK4 still has the best character voices, grunt and sound effects of all MKs. Side step dodge run combo should be brought back

Being poor in the 90s I not only loved this game & have mad memories with my squad playing 2v2 on the N64 version I also appreciated it along with all the other games my parents got me because as a grown man in my early 30s I now recognize how much you had to love your kids to spend any extra income on video games for them

Reiko was dope in the arcade version of MK4. His Flip Kick special move is nutty, and so is his "breaker" (bone breaker) move. Massive amounts of combo potential.

This was my game back in '98. I got into MK4 around the same time I got into MK Mythologies.
This is actually my favorite MK. The atmosphere and music are unmatched

To this day my favorite Mk, something about the atmosphere and sound effects just hits.
I feel like my incredibly bad habit of always jumping forward towards my opponent is a learned behavior from playing this games CPU for a few hundred hours...
The Reiko & Goro fights were even funnier on the stream; Reiko was really extra on those sets.

Played a small friendly MK4 tournament back in the day. I remember getting to the final, winning with Scorpion and walking off like a boss during Scorpions fiery fatality. Those were the days!

To be honest a large majority of the cast that were added or introduced after the first trilogy have been pretty much forgotten about, nowadays you're lucky to see them as a tower "konsumable", a name dropped reference in some intro dialogue before a match or in some supplemental comic about 20 people actually read.
@Justin Wong you know whats crazy about The Scorpion infinite at 1:46? Its CPU only. You know on MK certain special moves will get locked for a few frames before you can use then again, but The CPU Just say screw The rules and does something impossible on normal gameplay( you can pause The game and the frame counter will still count só you can mimic The CPU in a way if you ever want tô get back at it 🤣🤣🤣)

I love mortal kombat 4, I like how Justin played the ps1 version instead of the at arcade version. The n64 and ps1 port added goro, added game modes and was pretty faithful graphically and sound wise to the arcade port that I believe makes them the better versions to play.
That was crazy game, now Justin know it! There were not balanced characters + a lot of glitches like infinite minicombos! And against Goro - hit him every second with small combos

Mk4 was my first mk game played when i was a kid.
When i played against Goro for the first time it was a imposible task for me to finish the novice tower until i discovered spaming the same move over and over again.
Wait Scorpion could casually pick up Quan Chi with telekinesis and then blow him up? Why has he never used that before seems like it solves a lot of his problems.

If only Justin could play the arcade release (on that one Goro doesn't exist), still... putting the game on Ultimate was a mistake (at least he didn't put the Master II ladder, with more matches and more insane AI), good riddance you managed to beat it even if it took you more than 9 continues (which meant more than 1 arcade run).
Edit: I hope Justin has seen the Sonya, Jarek+Jax trilogy ending of the game.
Home console versions are honestly better, the arcade version has slightly better sound quality and visuals but the ps1 and n64 ports with goro added and the extra options and game modes give it a lot more depth. I would’ve loved to see his reactions to playing MK gold with all the glitches in that version and the six extra characters added
@@stevesteve0521 Also of that partiular version of MK4 (Gold) my favorite ending was Kung Lao's (but even so the Sonya/Jarek/Jax "Trilogy" ending is still my favorite of MK4 overall), and yeah, I agree the console ports are better overall

Not a joke but is actually my favorite MK game after 9. Like I grew up with the first 3 MK games but I always thought they were garbage as fighting games borderline unplayable with its approach to special moves where it felt like you were typing in cheat codes and not organic special moves. Mk4 was the first one I actually had fun playing.

This was the newest MK around the time I had my first PC, so I played this one the most. Got the MK1, 3 and Trilogy bit later (couldn't get 2 running), but still stuck with 4. People like to meme on it and even call it "the worst", but this is just the devs having fun. The blocky character models help make animations like snapping necks funnier and you can't tell me they were taking it that seriously when also having characters yell "OhMyLeg!". Yeah, Jarek is just 3D Kano and lots of fatalities are just 3D versions, but the camera movement helps it a lot. And the iconic endings, which are still to be outdone in terms of actual animation (how is it Boon has WB money and still resorts to some motion comics?).

In Mortal Kombat Gold, I usually spam certain moves, to try to beat Goro. Like with Sektor, I always spamming his teleport punch combo. 😁
This version of goro was op as shit, glad you figured out how to cheese the jump kick into the slide combo

Subs hits connected so fast the game registered it as a combo, if she landed a hit in between the combo count would've stopped.
Btw I'm just guessing, this games pretty jank but still my favorite MK.
