The description of We The Kings and Mayday Parade fans is so accurate of my younger self LMAO. I was basically part of the “nerd” social group and knew nothing about scene culture. But at the same time I listened to pop punk and wished I knew how to dress like Avril Lavigne. I had the occasional thing with a skull on it but that’s about it. You even nailed the “likes Fall Out Boy but only knows the singles” I’m amazed at the accuracy
Just heard Rollin yesterday on my spotify lol. I've never thought limp bizkit was the pinnacle of music, but its just fun music cheese and all. Nostalgia too. Reminds me of riding with my friends in high school with the windows down, feeling like a badass. Its just Nostalgia Finn!
Still waiting for you to get to Hey There Delilah (hate) and Face Down (love). I remember that as the turning period for rock music when emo had gotten so mainstream that it was just an aspect of the sound of pop music, and soon "alt rock" radio was no longer recognizable as the genre it had purported to be the prior 15 years.
Oh damn it, I had completely erased that awful Plain White T's song from my memory and now it's stuck in my head! "Face Down" is a good one though, that one holds up and the message of it is incredibly relevant.
Sum 41's guitarist Dave Brownsound was a metal guy and brought riff diversity into pop punk. You could tell their writing suffered when he left after Chuck.

I remember finding Owlcity back in the day on MySpace as well. I was always bummed that playradioplay disappeared, I wish he toured more/made more music. I saw we the kings open for new found glory at a college in Massachusetts which was kind of a weird duo.
Gotta talk about Trust Company if you ever do a part 2 of this, they’re music is legitimately pretty good even though they’re really only known for the song “Downfall”
I saw her live like ~10 years ago when “rabbits on the run” came out. I’d never really listened to her but obviously knew 1000 miles, and my girlfriend was really into her. Ended up really liking that album and the following one, a lot. Haven’t kept up with her since then or checked out her earlier stuff. 1000 Miles will always remind me of my girlfriend, who passed away several years ago.
Man, Fat Lip truly was a masterpiece. The first time I heard that song when it had just came out I was completely obsessed. I loved blink 182 at the time. And then I know you hate Limp Bizkit man but they were so much. I absolutely love the Bizkit. Wes wrote some incredible riffs and I gotta say, Fred knew what he was doing. I still jam chocolate starfish all the time
I am 28 years old, work at an office and I would love to pretend that I’m 10 years younger and sing along to ”Shake It” on a Friday-night. You are really spot on. 😂
You hit me right in the feels with this one. My childhood right there + all of the descriptions you made, I feel them. Also, easy explanation on why people love Limp Bizkit nowadays, despite their music being cringe: It's just pure energy in music form. Simple, dumb, raw and energetic. Sometimes you just need that.
bang on the money with that statement. some music you listen to for entertainment only. LB is one of those bands. you dont really think about the lyrics at all, its just very fun to listen to
@@niToitsyeSkxawng I love music that requires 100% attention to fully enjoy, but no way I'm listening to something like that while running or weightlifting. Same thing with partying.
limp Bizkit are easy to like for a few reasons- nostalgia- catchy- Wes Borland song writing- simplicity- contagious fake confidence- comedic undertones- and weirdly, the unique timbre of Fred Durst’s voice. When I try to truly put my finger on one thing that makes it work I still can’t find it. It’s like how I strongly dislike tomatoes on their own, but love a good chunky salsa 🤷♂️
"A thousand miles" got stuck in my head forever, mainly after I've heard Vanilla Sky's cover (Italian pop-punk band who also covered Rihanna's Umbrella and Lady Gaga's Just Dance).
I wish I lived in a timeline to where 2000s music was the last music we had for a hundred years, and we're just now in the air 2100 discovering where music left off.
Aside from Wes I think the biggest thing that makes some Limp Bizkit songs so good is just the infectious energy Fred has. Sure it's corny but I'll be damned if he doesn't sell it.
I've never been a Sum 41 fan, but when I saw them open for Motley Crue on the Carnival Of Sins tour, they kicked ass, it was prefect show for an opener and honestly their songs still hold up
I like that you brought up Metros Stations lyrics being weird for their fanbase. I recently gave the album this song was on a listen again and the song 17 forever made me physically uncomfortable. Like yikes my guy maybe don't sing about wanting to be able to finally sleep with your high-school aged girlfriend 🤢🤢
I am super embarrassed by how much I used to LOVE metro station. Hearing them now is making me cringe so hard because not only is the music terrible but you're spot on about the creepy lyrics that went totally over my 14 year old self's head
Really feel you about Owl City. I was in a similarly dark place when the song dropped. Got hooked on Adam Young‘s stuff (especially his Band Skysailing), for it was a nice change of tone compared to all the noisy metal stuff I listened to back then. And even though I don‘t have much love left for christianity, a good song is a good song.
The first time I heard Limp Bizkit was on a demo tape my friend got at a Korn show. That and the subsequent 3 Dollar Bill album blew my mind. Then Significant Other was also awesome but felt a bit more simple with more pop sensibility. By Chocolate Starfish you could feel that they were just dicking around and enjoying their fame but my friends and I didn't care because it was still fun. I have fond memories of going to alternative clubs in the early 2000s, doing the Rollin' arm movement and having a blast being a young idiot. If Rollin doesn't still pump you up then I don't know what to tell you
Haha still love how much you dislike the bizkit. Rollin is a party fun song, it's not meant to be serious. Even Wes Borland is dressed as a parody rapper. Still enjoy your genuine reactions to all of these songs. 100% agree with sum 41
If I recall correctly owl City's name comes from a tree near his parents house that had a large amount of owls living in it. Because of his insomnia Adam would take a walk at night to relax and saw the tree that looked like an "owl city" and he watched them until he was calm then would go home and write music until he fell asleep.
I'd say that Rollin' holds up because those of it that might have honestly "rocked out" to it back in the day, probably now embrace it as the magical font of musical cheese that it is.
I was very much done with Fred Durst's vocals by the time Chocolate Starfish came out. But Wes Borland's tone was to fucking die for. John and Sam were a great rhythm section, too.
I said the same when I first heard that album, but I won’t lie … I won’t skip when a song comes up on the playlist from it (unless it’s Rollin, because I cannot look more white than riding around having that play in the background …. noooooo thanks, rather be caught with Achey Breaky Heart at full blast).
I unironically love Shake It! I remember hearing it on the radio when I was around 8 and not really thinking much of it, but nowadays I think it is such a BOP
Fun Fact: Joey Fatone didn't do much of the break dancing scenes because he hurt (or had surgery or something I can't remember) his leg. Nsync used their choreographer had dressed up like Joey to fill in most of the standing/dancing parts for him. This is why Joey is mostly sitting down, his face is blurry, and he is placed in the back. You can watch all about it in the making of the Dirty Pop video.
Limp Bizkit helped bring rock and roll out of the grunge doldrums where everyone sang about "important, sad issues" it was a breath of fresh air, toxic fratboy masculinity be damned
Sum 41 is amazing and they're still going strong as ever, heard their new album will be a double album with one half being metal and the other back to their og pop punk style!
Headstrong is peak early 2000s WWE Pay-per-view theme-core. I wonder where Terry Crews' career would be without 1000 Miles. I hope on your twitch stream you mentioned the historical significance of the Rollin' Music video. That video and the 2001 VMAs with denim suit Britney and Justin were the last gasps of turn of the millennium culture. I've commented on it before, but the movie he directed makes me think Fred was not in on the joke. Check Yes Juliet was a strictly worse version of The Great Escape by Boys Like Girls.
I like Terry Crews in White Chicks, but my man had an established career long before being featured in that movie. You all forget Everybody Hates Chris? He was the dad. Pitched and recorded as he was doing White Chicks. He also had features in Malibu’s Most Wanted (8ball), Soul Plane, Friday After Next (Damon - his most memorable character for me during that era), Starsky & Hutch (Porter), and was pitched for Cheeseburger Eddie in The Longest Yard and President Camacho in Idiocracy before White Chicks officially released due to how well-known he was for being a big buff guy in comedies. Mad respect to the man for getting where he is today through features in black comedies beyond singing a song.
I think what people love most about LB is Wes, and formally, John. Wes is very much so underrated as a guitar player and if in a different band would get more credit then he gets
22:17 Interesting facts: One of LB's backup dancers in this video is Maggie Q (the actress). Also, this was the last music video filmed on top of the World Trade Center before 9/11.
Owl City is an amazing artist, he had no boundaries he tried everything from synth pop to screamo, for those who don't know he started a solo project called Blue Dallas. I would love to see Finn have him on his podcast, it would be amazing.
I graduated in '08 and man my teen years had some great music playing on the radio and TV. Even though we went to school together, I "met" my now husband on Myspace and started dating him our senior year. I remember all the trends and music styles. Glad to have been around during that time. Watching your live comments section made me chuckle. XD or xD will never go out of style, it seems.
I went to a Killswitch show back in February. While they were setting up for Killswitch's set, they started playing "A Thousands Miles" and at least half the crowd was singing along. The collective voice of the crowd was noticeably deep.
“Rollin’ (Air Raid Vehicle)” is kinda hilarious because it’s so corny, and I can’t argue with the dank riffs, killer production, and sick beats. It’s just too catchy. Even Fred’s vocal delivery obnoxiously yells you into submission until you, too, are telling people to “SHUT THE FUCK UP and BACK THE FUCK UP while we FUCK THIS TRACK UP.” “Rollin’” is almost a perfect version of itself. It’s everything you could want from a band that named themselves after erectile dysfunction.
You just can’t wrap your head around the Limp Bizkit thing man. They’re just FUN!! 😂😂 it’s fun, immature music to bang your head to and sing along with. It’s really that simple. Sometimes cheese is just so tasty!

Still had cheesy moments but it went buck wild at times.
I’ve never actually seen it!
@@FinnMckentyPRMBA The show you described was Seventh Heaven.
You know what. Owl City was also the gateway. The Ready Set was also crucial to this phase (and still my favorite actually)
You know who's better tho? HUMANITY'S LAST BREATH
@@bradschumacher419 You're damn right Bro!
I was always disappointed that the demo version of Face Down never got an official release. But I do still love the radio and album release.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Was just listening to Face Down lol
Ya'll heard Lil Lotus cover of "Face Down"? He does a pretty great job IMO
Oh damn it, I had completely erased that awful Plain White T's song from my memory and now it's stuck in my head!
"Face Down" is a good one though, that one holds up and the message of it is incredibly relevant.
Finn also pays for youtube premium. A man of class.
Sum 41's guitarist Dave Brownsound was a metal guy and brought riff diversity into pop punk. You could tell their writing suffered when he left after Chuck.
But Underclass Hero and Screaming Bloody Murder are easily Sum 41s best albums
@@Jambr380 i refuse to believe this is a real comment.
Except 99% of the songs were written by Whibley and Noiri. Not a single riff by Dave on Chuck
@@hambone3327 I'm pressing X to doubt.
@@dasenase Look at the album credits instead of saying memes from 5 years ago. Every song written by Noiri and Whibley. If you dont have the album look at ASCAP. There you go son
I remember finding Owlcity back in the day on MySpace as well. I was always bummed that playradioplay disappeared, I wish he toured
more/made more music. I saw we the kings open for new found glory at a college in Massachusetts which was kind of a weird duo.
Playradioplay started making music under the name Analog Rebellion years back. It's different but some of its pretty good
Playradioplay was soooo good, I wonder what he's up to nowadays
Gotta talk about Trust Company if you ever do a part 2 of this, they’re music is legitimately pretty good even though they’re really only known for the song “Downfall”
Yea they were great
Running from me is my personal favorite
Nobody knows who they are lol. They were a Linkin Park clone
@@MikeVoss I think they were pretty different to Linkin park from what I remember. Less catchy
In this vein, who remembers Lostprophets?
Vanessa Carlton is so underrated, her second album "Harmonium" from 2004 is amazing!
Every metalhead, including myself, in the early 2000s who had a soft spot for Sum 41 and no one else "um, yeah man, I like some punk" 😅
It me haha
They 100% helped my transition into Metalcore in the 2009’s
Sum 41 and Lagwagon also had a bit of that element too
Man, Fat Lip truly was a masterpiece. I still jam chocolate starfish all the time
"They're sorta like a scene one-hit-wonder."
Oh Finn, you silly little boy, you know the scene will never allow a band to be a one-hit-wonder.
"Shake It" is one of the best pop songs from that decade
I am 28 years old, work at an office and I would love to pretend that I’m 10 years younger and sing along to ”Shake It” on a Friday-night.
You are really spot on. 😂
You hit me right in the feels with this one. My childhood right there + all of the descriptions you made, I feel them. Also, easy explanation on why people love Limp Bizkit nowadays, despite their music being cringe: It's just pure energy in music form. Simple, dumb, raw and energetic. Sometimes you just need that.
Some of their music is just fine. I dig Borland's guitar riffs. All the cringe was because of Durst. That guy... my god.
bang on the money with that statement. some music you listen to for entertainment only. LB is one of those bands. you dont really think about the lyrics at all, its just very fun to listen to
@@niToitsyeSkxawng I love music that requires 100% attention to fully enjoy, but no way I'm listening to something like that while running or weightlifting. Same thing with partying.
@@petrinafilip96 yup exactly right, same here
In my opinion anything that's commercial is corny Every song on this list is corny to me
Fat Lip totally holds up. I was passively listening to this and when the drums dropped I started banging my head lol
I recently re-listened to Fat Lip and was like, man, this song is really good!
Man the 2000s and 2010s feel like they happened 200 years ago. The last 2-5 years have been WILD.
limp Bizkit are easy to like for a few reasons- nostalgia- catchy- Wes Borland song writing- simplicity- contagious fake confidence- comedic undertones- and weirdly, the unique timbre of Fred Durst’s voice.
A thousand miles is such a bop. I absolutely love that song and I’m a total metal head
It's a great song
@@atvena it really is 😃
Aside from Wes I think the biggest thing that makes some Limp Bizkit songs so good is just the infectious energy Fred has.
Guess I'm gonna have to start downloading his videos as soon as they come out because I definitely did not see that part in the video.
@@ssj6bejeeta Oh damn I didn't even notice but you're right, most of the Metro Station part is gone now
I always made fun of Fireflies in highschool...but after some maturity, this is such a sweet song that chills me out. Love it now as an adult.
Fireflies by Owl City has the potential to be a really good pop punk song. Listen to the chorus, you can hear its hidden potential.
The cover by Bilmuri is top tier
That's probably because it was cowritten and coproduced by Matt Thiessen from Reliant K
Go listen to basketflies from dj cumberbund. You'll thank me later.
@@owenoconnell3445 and sang by correctly?
Owl city's first album is amazing. Listened to it a lot in the army alongside morbid angel and immortal.
1000 miles has the best metalcore cover ever.
I just showed my daughter fireflies song 3 days ago and we have just had the most wonderful time jamming this song over and over again.
How was "Don't Trust Me" by 3OH!3 not on this list? That is the epitome of embarrassing 2000s music.
Idk if u been to emo nite but I've seen about 200 20 yr Olds singing that shit at the top. Of. They shit
@@sammyhain Oh it's absolutely an anthem that we all loved at the time... but it's aged horribly and it's incredibly embarrassing to listen to now.
The entire album that “Fireflies” is on is genuinely sooooo good. Adam Young is a really talented dude. Really under appreciated.
I saw Venessa Carlton at a Stevie Nicks concert. She was incredible and was even part of Stevie's encore. I wish we could hear more from her.
If I recall correctly owl City's name comes from a tree near his parents house that had a large amount of owls living in it. Because of his insomnia Adam would take a walk at night to relax and saw the tree that looked like an "owl city" and he watched them until he was calm then would go home and write music until he fell asleep.
as a 27 year old with an office job who frequents emo night here in philly, i can confirm when Shake It comes on the place goes nuts
@@TheCpj1976 Kung fu necktie. 1st and 3rd fridays of the month
I'd say that Rollin' holds up because those of it that might have honestly "rocked out" to it back in the day, probably now embrace it as the magical font of musical cheese that it is.
when vanessa hits the higher octave chorus at the end of the song. I get chills
Dude your Limp Bizkit segment in this video was some of the funniest shit I've seen on YT in a while😂
Babe wake up Finn Mckenty posted a new video
It's one of these songs, you dont want anybody to know that you like it 😅
My son was obsessed with shake it when it came out. Shit is still stuck in my head 10 years later
For me, it’s one of those songs that reminds me of a time that I’d largely rather forget lol
Shake It is perhaps the most known neon pop/crunkcore/emo song of all time but the best Metro Station song is Control. You can't go wrong with it.
So basically you’re still a kid?
Fun Fact: Joey Fatone didn't do much of the break dancing scenes because he hurt (or had surgery or something I can't remember) his leg. Nsync used their choreographer had dressed up like Joey to fill in most of the standing/dancing parts for him. This is why Joey is mostly sitting down, his face is blurry, and he is placed in the back. You can watch all about it in the making of the Dirty Pop video.
Man, this video was great. Left me feeling headstrong to take on anyone.
Your nostalgic references and comparisons are usually on point, but you knocked em out of the park in this video. Thanks for the laughs!
Seems true but listen to his side projects- not great
Sum 41 is just a perfect band
That "Hey rockers, hip-hopers" line in rollin is iconic af!
Limp bizkit is just fun music… it doesn’t need to be super inspirational or anything it definitely holds up!
Check Yes Juliet and Fat Lip were the best songs on this list for sure. I actually agreed with pretty much every verdict you made
Limp bizkit is eternal
22:17 Interesting facts: One of LB's backup dancers in this video is Maggie Q (the actress). Also, this was the last music video filmed on top of the World Trade Center before 9/11.
Oh wow didnt know that about maggie q!
You take things too seriously man! It’s music. Once you learn to not care so much you will appreciate limp bizkit
I can't lie, there are a handful of Limp Bizkit songs I still like. Break Stuff, Faith, Behind Blue Eyes, Rearranged.
I'll tell you why you think nysnc and limp bizkit are trash - it's b/c you didn't grow up with them. Finished done end of story.

Finn did you really have to call me out so directly like that?? Hahahah
I went to a Killswitch show back in February. While they were setting up for Killswitch's set, they started playing "A Thousands Miles" and at least half the crowd was singing along. The collective voice of the crowd was noticeably deep.
Trapt Headstrong commentary actually made me laugh out loud :D
Just discovering your 2nd channel and just subbed. Please never change!
Thank you!
That Metro Station section had me cracking up haha
“Rollin’ (Air Raid Vehicle)” is kinda hilarious because it’s so corny, and I can’t argue with the dank riffs, killer production, and sick beats. It’s just too catchy. Even Fred’s vocal delivery obnoxiously yells you into submission until you, too, are telling people to “SHUT THE FUCK UP and BACK THE FUCK UP while we FUCK THIS TRACK UP.” “Rollin’” is almost a perfect version of itself. It’s everything you could want from a band that named themselves after erectile dysfunction.
"If this wasn't use in a military recruitment video, somebody fucked up" I'm fucking dead
"The foam headphones that were always itchy and hot". Ah, that takes me back. I could almost feel them on my ears when you said that.
"Makin my way downtown, walking fast"
Acually you're driving a piano...
8:30 oh wait, that's the Terry Crew song in that silly movie 😂😂
You just can’t wrap your head around the Limp Bizkit thing man. They’re just FUN!! 😂😂 it’s fun, immature music to bang your head to and sing along with. It’s really that simple. Sometimes cheese is just so tasty!

"A Thousand Miles" deserves props for being used in "ACVC" alone.
