Fun anecdote. My friend growing up who was an amazing musician and liked Green Day but didn't care for most other Punk stuff, heard this song for the first time and said to me "Who is this poor man's Green Day?". Idk if it's just that memory or what, but I never really cared much for this song. The rest of this album is pure fire, but this song always kind of underwhelmed me. Also, for the record, Warning is an extremely underrated album. I know you think it's "just okay", but how long has it been since you gave it a spin? You might feel differently after all this time.
To be fair, do Green Day look like a local band, or do local bands look like Green Day? I don't really remember the shirt/red skinny tie thing happening on a mainstream level until Green Day. Yeah, you always had the Husker Du/Replacements types do that, but it wasn't as widespread. Also, the disrespect shown to Coheed and Cambria! I will fully accept I'm a fuckin' nerd for listening to them, but I do feel like they're a "Specifically for someone, but something for everyone" kinda bands. As someone who somewhat enjoys The Hives and "Get Free" by The Vines... Jet suck. Burn that song to the ground. Also to anyone who complains that Finn is too "normie", he's essentially the guy that "Suburban Home" by Descendents is about, and what's more punk than that?!
Finn doesn't like bands that make comic books. He also doesn't like "most" of their "hardcore" fans that will push them as the best band ever. I personally love Coheed, but I don't push their music on anyone. I never got into the comic books, but enjoy their music. Everyone's taste in music is different.
@@moej6014 yea Coheed fans can be kinda awful in my experience. Saw them and BTBAM in Philly and their fans just booed the entire time BTBAM played. It was so strange. Like you realize shows have other bands playing, right?

I think being out of tune was actually the goal of At The Drive In. That made those bands different from nu-metal and pop-punk. Finn just misses the point
Omg i forgot the cringe of Ashley Simpson's "bad song performance". I heard they force bands to use backing tracks. The cringe sent a chill down my spine, i am cringing for her, not at her.

Sorry, Grandma needs to take her medicine and put her Dismember record on the gramophone, I'm 37 and old already.
I mean....she kinda deserved it. She didn't even ATTEMPT to sing meaning she likely lip syncs entirely as opposed to just having backing tracks so she should have been drug through shit. I mean how are you gonna be Jessica Simpsons sister, use that to launch a career, and somehow not learn how to sing live?

I do think there is merit in listening to other genres through the lens of pop music, though. It allows you to see why a song might appeal to more people or a certain audience.
@@zakk219 For sure, again, I'm not arguing having a diverse music taste is stupid. But you must kinda view different music styles with different goggles.
A lot of people (mostly oldschool Green Day fans) thought American Idiot was when the band went to shit. Honestly I thought that was their last great album. They took the pop centric tones of American Idiot & Completely flanderized it in 21st Century Breakdown
21st century breakdown was just so much fun though.
That was the last Green Day album I liked.
@@jacobvelasquez562 as long as we can all agree that Uno, Dos, and Tré weren't worth their weight in pesos, that's fine.
I would say Revolution radio is a fairly good comeback album for them.
Hates System of a Down, At the Drive in, and Coheed and Cambria, but loves emo rap, 2000's tween pop, and bands like Emmure. And somehow I'm the one with out any taste. 🤔
I miss the at the gates era of metalcore, those were some legit good songs
Though I don’t agree with all his views on these songs I really appreciate the fact that Finn does these videos. His knowledge of music is insane!
Finn cited everything that is GREAT about ATDI and he still said it sucks 😂🤷🏻♂️!!
Cuz he's not a NERD like we are 🤣🤣🤣
That must mean he sucks then 🤔
This one kind of triggered me. Says American Idiot is the greatest punk song of all time then shits on At The Drive In?!?!? Daheck
Yeah feels like he’s trolling certain fan bases. At least I hope so. Because if that’s his actual take.. oof.. especially coming from someone who calls himself “punk rock mba” 😂
Wrong…wrong ATDI - Relationship of Command is one of the best albums of the 2000s era…check yourself out of the music scene son
kinda strange that Finn didn’t mention (for those who doesn’t know it and hear ATD for the first time in the stream) that Cedric’s and Omar’s next band kinda was sensational and innovative & their very first album still holds up in every single aspect. i’m talking about Mars Volta of course.
so, you know, the fact that ATD were often not so good is sometimes what it takes to find your artistic voice to truly make great art at the end of the day
I’m not sure if I can take Finn seriously when he bashes out At the drive in before putting Hoku on the podium
Post punk band’ okay I’m about to sing something’
Finn ‘don’t you dare be said’
Post punk: ‘she walking down through the rain ’
Finn: ‘gosh damn it’.
Finn:listens to shitty, under produced, out of tune punk music "wow it's so raw, I love this sound. "
Finn listens to shitty underproduced 2003 metalcore: ugh, it's just awful, acid, drives a vw jetta, and just so gritty.
Haha hates ATDI, loves Country Girl by Belmont... ohhhh Finn
When Jet comes on, as an Australian who hated this stuff at the time… nostalgia is an evil thing, I find myself loving it now
Love you Finn but not entirely sure how you can clown on At the Drive In whilst simultaneously praising old grind/death metal music that is literally guitars being beat up and recorded in a vacuum cleaner, doesn't add up bro 😂
I can't believe that Asking Alexandria's the final episode is now considered a classic, not in a bad way though
time flies
Makes me feel old cause I was jamming that when I first entered the work force
Bro I went to see Shaggy 2 dope for the heck of it once and was taken aback by how NICE everyone I talked to was at the concert
Juggalos really do get a bad rap
also looks like im getting a ton of pamphlets from Finn
Lmao I love when the video slowly just turns into Finn becoming a religious stay at home mom
Damn juggalos in other states sound pretty chill, but here in NY every one of them that I've met are very racist people and generally have a swastika tattoo within a 1 foot radius of their running clown tattoo
I remember opening for Dairy Queen and I had a manager who got fumed every time I played American Idiot "it offensive" like get over yourself lmao
Some people are just weak as fuck
Imagine trying to come for ATDI. Bad opinion is bad
atd-i is fire, possibly your least good opinion
"She will always be a broken girl" was She Wants Revenge's best song BY FAR.
Ay someone else knows what's up
21:40 There was an NC band called Confessor (signed to Earache for a brief time - do a UA-cam search) and this guy sounds like he’s trying so hard to be Scott Jeffreys from that band
Confessor were sick
@@FinnMckentyPRMBA Saw them MANY times at the Brewery in Raleigh. 🔥🤘
Has 'I Don't Want You Back' by Eamon been reviewed on one of these yet? That definitely deserves some appreciation. Not forgetting the diss track that his ex did in response as well.
You plaayed me/ You even gave him-- UHhhh...! 😩
I cannot stand for the ATDI slander, and yes this is my 2nd comment because i had to leave and now im back finishing the video. I hope you're joking on this one because ATDI and the mars volta were revolutionary for their genres imo. I'm not a music expert but that's my opinion.
Wow i didnt expect to see She wants revenge! I still listen to that particular album sometimes, when I'm sad and can't understand why ☺
Finn trashing At The Drive In while praising ICP. Every video my love for this man grows.
Disney Asking Alexandria: Goofy on the breakdown. “Oh. My. Gawrsh!”
Coheed is bad taste?? I am very confused on that part.
@@phaaaze9984 that's a shame. I haven't been to a Coheed concert since 2006ish. The crowd wasn't like that then.
@@moej6014 oh I understand that then. Gotta remember what fans is short for. Fanatic.
“Tear You Apart” was the better song from She Wants Revenge and it still holds up imo
One arm scissor is fucking awesome
The only bands that hold up for me when it comes to the indie/garage rock revival are the arctic monkeys and the foals
The Ashley Simpson thing with the backing tracks I remember when that happened she had her own reality show and on that show you find out she had meningitis or something along the lines where she couldn't sing and she wasn't going to perform but they wanted her to and had her do the backing tracks and she agreed and everything else is history which is kind of funny because that never got brought up it's just that she was a talentless hack and her musical career was over
Probably laryngitis * not meningitis haha
So you believe her ?
@@XViTNg yeah.. meningitis is life threatening. Wouldn't put it past them to say that as a cover tho either.
Warning was a wildly underrated album by Green Day
I think being out of tune was actually the goal of At The Drive In. That made those bands different from nu-metal and pop-punk. Finn just misses the point
Omg i forgot the cringe of Ashley Simpson's "bad song performance". I heard they force bands to use backing tracks. The cringe sent a chill down my spine, i am cringing for her, not at her.
10:35 “Cruisin’ for a bruisin’” LOOOL I’m getting flashbacks from childhood.
At The Drive In rule SOOOOOO HARD.
honestly as an ATDI fan, i can surly say that One Armed Scissor is a crappy song. Listen to In Casino Out that album is a certified hood classic I swear.
Finn, I’m always okay with not agreeing with you, but you’ve gone too far…At the Drive-in is great
Macys-Core. Relaxed fit jeans, those weird shirts with the sewn in long sleeves....
old ladies blasting your face with perfume if you wander into the wrong section of the store... we need to bring this shit back!
Also, those old colorful iMacs running System 9 or whatever were great. Every little click and drag makes an adorable noise. Sure, they weren't PCs, and the game selection wasn't as good, but we had our goddamn HyperCard and Escape Velocity and we liked it, damnit.
Sorry, Grandma needs to take her medicine and put her Dismember record on the gramophone, I'm 37 and old already.
They really killed Ashlee Simpson for doing something so many artists do. Never understood why.
No no no trash talking Jett was bad enough but they’re one hit wonders. But I can not accept this disrespect shown to At the drive in, those guys freakin rock. One armed scissor is great and they have lots of other good songs.
Their stuff holds up really well in my opinion
American idiot is the song that got me into rock and metal completely. Without that song, I would’ve never got into rock.
At the Drive In is fucking amazing. Sorry Finn, you got that one way wrong. In Casino Out is fantastic.
Great content, great person. Worst musical taste. Rarely miss a video always cringe at your takes
A 40 year man gushing over an early 2000s one hit wonder bubblegum pop artist is wayyyyyy cringier than a 40 year old man listening to At the Drive In. And for the record I also hate all that post punk/garage rock/indie bulllshit so don't @ me.
I still love Coheed & Cambria.
I fuck with the one armed scissor song and I'm just hearing it for the first time in my 30's
PS that hoku song was probably the worst song i've ever heard
To be honest I love post punk but i more of a deathrock guy but can completely understand it was hard for me to get in to it at first in my opinion I love gothic rock
I'm still in my "Green Day did not release any records past Nimrod" phase.
I was gonna hit the like button till the SOAD slander started. Good sir I shall take my business elsewhere!
20:42 "Do you think there's fucking anything you guys know about that I don't know about" - Finn's got full on Super Villain... and I'm here for it!
Gosh darnit Finn you had me laughing my backside off this whole video 😂 the references were so accurate 😅
Long time viewer. The pamphlet you offered for SOAD fans is officially the first time you’ve rustled my Jimmies.
24:33 speed this song up by 30-40% (no pitch correction), throw some trap snares and 808s underneath and you have hyperpop 😂
My wife is a big coheed and atdi fan, and i love deftones. We still love your videos Finn! Much love from Cebu philippines.
Salamat po!
That Hoku song isn't even good for bad pop. Christ. I miss five minutes ago before I knew this song existed.
Bummed about Coheed being looped in with system of a down and at the drive in. Truly good musicians in that band and kept the guitar riffs and solos alive in rock the last 20 years. Their newest singles are something you should at least give 15 seconds.
Talks shit about at the drive in, system, deftones…all the while being a huge GnR fan
By farrr the most overrated band ever.
Still love you Finn ❤️
Finn talking about the early aughts is probably his best material. I laughed more at this than i have in a while.
You shit on Jet and At the drive in but Ashley Simpson gets a pass. What the fuck ever
