And they didn't use any of it in the Netflix series :/ Only generic tracks, maybe they'll do it in Season 2. It just doesn't feel like Castlevania without Vampire Killer, Bloody Tears and other iconic tracks
Omega Rugal not only is the sound chip in the FDS different from the one in CV3, but you are completely mistaken. Castlevania 1 and 2 were on disk, but not 3
There's also Getsu Fuma Den, with Getu Fuma and Ryukotsuki as cards. Nanobreaker is another game referenced. DYKG please Do a region lock on Getsu Fuma Den which is basically Castlevania with Japanese Yokai instead of European Horrors anc sword instead of a whip.
The thing with bloodstained is, you don't have all the lore to back it up, as it is with Castlevania. I just wish that they could go back to doing good Castlevania games.
+Richter WLK I get what you mean, but there's not much that be done about it. Igarashi himself said that they wouldn't let him make another Castlevania becuase they didn't have faith that it would sell. The only way that we can technically get a new one of that style, is in the form of an entirely new IP. But it does suck saying goodbye to all of that lore and story spread out across hundreds of years. But I wouldn't mind if Konami would go back and make a classic styled Castlevania as well. But I don't really have faith that that would happen anytime soon.
Bloodstained will be better than Circle of the moon for sure. Thinking that it would be at the same level would be underestimating Iga and his team. I believe it will be an awesome game, and i have the intention of getting it sometime in the future. I just hope that it will have some interesting lore behind it, maybe with another famous vampire as the final boss?
I feel like it's weird that Igarashi has sort of adopted the Castlevania series as his own, considering he had nothing to do with it's creation. Igarashi is like the Keiji Inafune of Castlevania. How about people try to contact the original NES game's staff for once? that game was way ahead of its time
Maybe it's because I came into the Castlevania series late (during the DS line of games), but I loved LoS and LoS Mirror of Fate. They were different but in a really nice way. Also, I really felt that Del Toro vibe too, I guess it wasn't just coincidence.
what's even more Funny about the vampire hunter card is that it ain't the only card referencing a Konami franchise, there's a card called tactical espionage spy which is referencing mgs
There is also a reference to castlevania in Rosario plus vampire in volume four where the character Ruby gives the main character a whip to contain his power, which is named Belmont (it then shows a little panel referencing the first games level with the main character cracking the whip.)
Akumajou Densetsu isn't a disk game. How the hell can a disk have an extra chip? The Famicom can use cartridges as well as disks guys. That one is a cartridge game. A black cartridge to be specific, and it has an end label, none of my other Famicom games have end labels so that's cool.
here's another reference you didn't mention. I the manga rosario and vampire one of the characters uses a whip called the Belmont, the artist even made a Panel in the book to look like a frame from the first Castlevania game.
Just have to say, even though Netflix's Castlevania show is only 4 episodes, it's really good so far. They got really creative with Trevor's whip fighting techniques. Reminded me of Lords of Shadow and eastern martial arts movies.
im so glad you guys did my favorite series again. love every games music and I wanna collect all the games in the series. too bad konami won't make another one.
The thing i find most amazing about Castlevania is the music It's just so incredibly, and it even tops soundstracks by today's standards a lot of the time
Did you also know that Victor Belmont's having been teleported to 1666 from the 1800's was omitted by DYG in this particular video? Might've been a little obvious by his having a pistol and all as a sidearm, but still, don't forget the details! Was a GIANT Castlevania fan several years ago :)
Another Easter egg that references Castlevania can be found in Heroes of the Storm. In the Garden of Terror map, when the map goes through the dark cycle, the announcer says "What a joyous night to have a curse."
Is this your first Castlevania video in like 200 videos? If so, wow! Also while I'm here, here's a list of games/franchises I think should get videos: Super Metroid Beyond Good & Evil Saints Row Monster World IV Mass Effect Part 2 Metroid Prime Part 2 Borderlands 2 Guacamelee Device 6 SuperBrothers: Sword & Sorcery Rayman Origins Metroid Fusion Velocity 2X Jade Empire Hearthstone Infamous Dragon's Cown Twisted Metal Shantae Bastion Odin Sphere Sly Cooper Shovel Knight Skullgirls Just to name a few. I know you guys put out videos as quickly as you can, and I hate to complain, but you may have already gotten to some of these if 90% of your content wasn't Mario, Zelda, or Sonic related. Hyperbole intended.
Just a heads up, only cartridges supported the extra chips for sounds. The Disk System did have support for more advanced sounds, but it wasn't used in Castlevania 3. It was only released on cartridge.
There's also the fact that Castlevania was referenced in Rosario Vampire. The protagonist, Tsukune, had to train with a whip, and I believe it was called Belmont. Heck, there's an illustration of Tsukune in that volume that has him whip it like Simon in the old NES game.
Lords of Shadow was a great reboot. I don't give a shit about what anyone says, at least LOS2 lets you play as Dracula and I mean actual Dracula not some pretty boy band reject.
The whip is the best video game weapon of all time. Not the Castlevania specific whip per se, but just whips in general. They are awesome and need to be used in more games.
Another intresting thing about the Vampire Hunter card is that it can create a eternal loop with Vampire Lord, much like how in Castlevania the Belmonts are forever forced to battle Dracula.
you trending sons of bitches. you can imagine the many times this series has been constantly requested and you decide now to cover Castlevania? well, still a good video, but i already knew a lot about Castlevania thanks to other sources, like Game Trailers's Castlevania retrospective and Yuriofwind's Gaming Mysteries.
DID YOU KNOW: Castlevania III wasn't on the Famicom Disk System. It was on the Famicom as a cart with the VRC6. How would a custom mapper chip even get in a disk format game? Since Nintendo manufactured all of the carts on the NES, only a very few custom mappers were available to 3rd parties, and Konami's VRC6 wasn't one of them. That's why the music is different.
Castlevania 3 was never released on the Famicom Disk System; it was always on a cartridge, with the VRC6 chip being built into the cart's PCB. The chip had to be replaced with the lower-quality MMC5 chip for the game's international release because the NES lacked the hardware that the Famicom used to support the extra pins needed to access the VRC6's extra sound channels.
I had no idea there was a canceled 32x Castlevania game but I definitely knew about Castlevania Resurrection as back around 1999 I was able to acquire what music was written for that game before they cancelled it.
1. As already said by other users, Akumajou Dracula Densetsu was released on a cartridge, not on a diskette, as the latter does not allow the use of extra on-board chips. In fact, the FDS has lesser sound than the regular Famicom/NES, as anyone can attest by comparing the music of the diskette version of Dracula II: Noroi no Fuin and the cartridge-based Castlevania II: Simon's Quest. 2. Lords of Shadow was initially intended to be a new, original IP, but later in development the decision was made by Konami to make it a part of the Castlevania franchise, hoping to expand the series fanbase, in light of the previous entries relatively low sales. 3. Castlevania has never been a really successful series, at least in the sales department. It has always been considered a niche franchise, moreso in the Japanese market itself.
I feel that these didn't really have a story, to begin with, they just had awesome box art and then built a story around that. The story (or stories) still don't totally make sense to me, but this helps give context to what's going on.
Did you know? The infamous "A miserable little pile of secrets!" quote from the American release of Symphony of the Night was referenced again in Lords of Shadow.
DarthPhillius my problem is with the sequels and how it fails to establish the Belmont clan ect. Plus it used a lot of gameplay from other series so it isn't very special either. Anyway it became very fanfic with how try hard it all got
Excuse me, there is no Famicom Disk System version of Castlevania 3 (Akumajou Densetsu). The Famicom release was a cartridge that housed the extra soundchip.
I love the fact that you two are able to do this. Yes I want to see Super Bad 2 like everyone else, but this is a close second. Thanks guys. You rock! And I hope Super Bad 2 goes into production soon! In the mean time keep going with this. Sooo goood. Jonah, your getting chubby again ;) and it is awesome! Sorry, but fatter is funnier! Actually Richter was not reworked from the 32X character. That sprite already existed in Rondo of Blood. The Trevor sprite was reworked however, and even Maria's adult 32X sprite could have been reused for the Venus Weed enemy. Also Castlevania 3 was never on disc, although the original game was re-released on a cart in Japan. The discs allowed for FM sound channels to be used, but CV3 as you say used the VR6 on the Famicom and a different chip for the NES... neither of which Nintendo really approved of, but being so late in the 8-bit life cycle they relented.
Come over and have some fun at my place.

Did you know? Castlevania has some of the best music in video game history.
Super Link Bro Not better than Sonic though
Imad Mohamed
I never liked Sonic music tbh
Not better than legend of Zelda tho
And they didn't use any of it in the Netflix series :/
Only generic tracks, maybe they'll do it in Season 2. It just doesn't feel like Castlevania without Vampire Killer, Bloody Tears and other iconic tracks
Super Link Bro I think Goldeneye, Dynasty Warriors and Devil May Cry have far better music.
*WHAT A HORRIBLE NIGHT TO HAVE A CURSE.*
And what a good night to be a Castlevania fan!
Binding of Isaac
Into the tower never go
The Horrors multiply...
*THE MORNING SUN HAS VANQUISHED THE HORRIBLE NIGHT.*
I am the mornign sun, came to vanquish this horrible night
A year, a month, and a day before Simon and Richter Belmont were revealed for Smash Ultimate.
What a perfect night to have a Nintendo direct
Just a year and a month. Simon was revealed on August 8th, 2018. This was uploaded July 8th, 2017.
Castlevania 3 was released on cartridge in Japan, not the FDS. it is not possible to include an external audio chip on a diskette
humulos I was just about to post this! "The disk version contained a additional microprocessor chip..." WHAT?! A chip in a floppy disk?! hahaha
apparently "Disk" is their way of saying Japanese and "Cartridge" is their way of saying American
the FSD has the extra sound chip and yes in japan was released on floppy
Omega Rugal not only is the sound chip in the FDS different from the one in CV3, but you are completely mistaken. Castlevania 1 and 2 were on disk, but not 3
my bad
Did you know? Video game timelines are confusing.
Still not as bad MegaMan's
+Aminux Ultimum What about LoZ's?
My dude you have to work on your anatomy skills
cannonfodder4000 Anatomy?

Simon Belmont needs to be in the next Smash Bros
Imad Mohamed I agree IF Zero Suit Samus and Samus don't use any whip-like weapons
Him and Snake.
Imad Mohamed sure as soon as konami gets their head out their asses
Nah Konami is too busy bastardizing and turning Castlevania into a Pachinko machine.
I personally think that Richter would represent the Belmont Family the best considering his abilities in games.
Konami owns both Castlevania and Yu-Gi-Oh, so it would make sense to make a card about one of their franchise
Yeah, also that's why there are cards for Metal Gear and Galaga
Forever Zero *Gradius :)
Galaga is by Namco
Zillion Taborda you're totally right
Forever Zero And Parodius (Aitsu, Koitsu, Soitsu and Doitsu). And Gambare Goemon (Goe Goe, Ebisu, Yae and Sasuke... the whole crew!).
Did you know?
Simon Belmont is now in Smash Bros.
I really hope Bloodstained turns out good.
The thing with bloodstained is, you don't have all the lore to back it up, as it is with Castlevania. I just wish that they could go back to doing good Castlevania games.
That game is indepenent, konami has nothing to do with that game.
+Richter WLK
I get what you mean, but there's not much that be done about it. Igarashi himself said that they wouldn't let him make another Castlevania becuase they didn't have faith that it would sell. But I wouldn't mind if Konami would go back and make a classic styled Castlevania as well. But I don't really have faith that that would happen anytime soon.
I think you are setting your expectations a bit high. Personally I will be happy if it reaches Circle of the Moon quality.
How about people try to contact the original NES game's staff for once? that game was way ahead of its time
Hellooo!
Keiji Inafune was involved with the creation of Megaman though, just not the design
I'll bring it up next time I have lunch with Mix Schrecks
What is the easiest way to play Symphony of the Night these days? Emu? Or has it been ported to something.
Get it on PSN or XBLA
PS3 through PSN. It also got rereleased on PS4 under Castlevania requiem. There is also an IOS, but the controls are terrible
"Please, have some class. This isn't a bar-fight." -A
Maybe it's because I came into the Castlevania series late (during the DS line of games), but I loved LoS and LoS Mirror of Fate. They were different but in a really nice way.
Also, I really felt that Del Toro vibe too, I guess it wasn't just coincidence.
Castlevania 3 was not a disk system game, it was a regular Famicom cartridge. 1 and 2 were released on FDS, but not 3.
Castlevania is criminally underrated, especially considering that it's name is half of a genre of games, Metrodvania.
I'm a simple man. I see Castlevania, I click the vid.
Funny, I thought I typed that out.
You and me bro
Hell yeah \,,/
What is a man?
Muhan C.A. A miserable pile of secrets! But enough talk. Have at you!
what's even more Funny about the vampire hunter card is that it ain't the only card referencing a Konami franchise, there's a card called tactical espionage spy which is referencing mgs
And now Simon and Richter are in Smash
Just watched the first 4 episodes of the Netflix animation and was so in the mood for this lol! Great timing!!!
it's Bram Stoker, not "Braham Stroker"
right its Abraham Vanhellsing
There is also a reference to castlevania in Rosario plus vampire in volume four where the character Ruby gives the main character a whip to contain his power, which is named Belmont (it then shows a little panel referencing the first games level with the main character cracking the whip.)
Probably did this because of the Castlevania Netfilx series.
CHARA is DETERMINED 87 It's not even funny how obvious it is haha
I am currently waiting for the DeathNote movie it's gunna be so good
+The Real I That's some terrible sarcasm.
RobJuanDeLaNooch Support Konami? No, thank you. MAYBE if Bloodstained turns out bad, but given that the series will likely live on, I'd rather not.
They did this so JoJo's part 5 could come out sooner
The song that starts at 3:39 is like, my favourite piece of Castlevania music ever!
Igarashi. FIGHT ME.
OMG...You said Vlad Tepes correctly. Everybody who isnt a romanian gets the "Tepes" wrong...but you actually said it right.Good job on your reaserch.

I just scrolled down to make sure someone made this comment.
Akumajou Densetsu isn't a disk game. How the hell can a disk have an extra chip? The Famicom can use cartridges as well as disks guys. That one is a cartridge game. A black cartridge to be specific, and it has an end label, none of my other Famicom games have end labels so that's cool.
3:17 I don't think Castlevania 3 was released in disk format in Japan.
here's another reference you didn't mention. I the manga rosario and vampire one of the characters uses a whip called the Belmont, the artist even made a Panel in the book to look like a frame from the first Castlevania game.
"But the mistranslated Simon Belmondo is the only name not refering a known actor"... and french actor Jean Paul Belmondo?
Lucas Knox true dat
Just have to say, even though Netflix's Castlevania show is only 4 episodes, it's really good so far. They got really creative with Trevor's whip fighting techniques. Reminded me of Lords of Shadow and eastern martial arts movies.
Ah yes, Robin Thrush, I know you for your eastern martial art prowess.
It has the wimpiest version of Bloody Tears I've ever heard
Castlevania 3 wasn't released on disk
It was released on the Famicom Disk System
pieman19 It was not, it was released on the Famicom. Google Castlevania 3 Japanese cartridge to see
Yeah, how can a disc version contain any additional chips anyway?
the chip is in the cartdridge version, the FSD has a chip that provides extra sound
Omega - You mean FDS not FSD. Also from what I've read, there is no FDS version. Only Famicom/NES.
im so glad you guys did my favorite series again. love every games music and I wanna collect all the games in the series. too bad konami won't make another one.
Speaking of Castlevania is the Netflix series any good?
Yes, but it's quite short. It already has a second season in production
That's good. I'd rather have it be short and good than long and drawn-out.
I don't like that series but I am currently waiting for the DeathNote series on Netflix
MightyJake Its 4 episodes that are slightly less than a half hour long.
Is that out now?
Missed opportunity to have James Rolfe do this video.
If anyone is wondering yes the new Netflix show is good, short but good.
I don’t know why the chupacabra scene makes me laugh but it does
Ah yes... The famous Bram Stroker
Gotta love the main menu music of Aria of sorrow. Aria of sorrow and SoTN are my favorites. Oh the memories
You guys should check out the castlevania series on Netflix. I assure you it's worth the watch.
I drop a tear everytine i hear a Castlevania music.
Can you do one about Viewtiful Joe Please?
Kev San That needs to happen right nowwwww
Kev San Loved the game and the show.
From Castlevania to Metroid. Nicely done MercurySteam.
What version of Wicked Child is that for the first two minutes?
It's the arcade version
one of my favorite references is The Black Dahlia Murder's reference to Simon's Quest with their song "What a horrible night to have a curse"
I saw this already at Popcon Indy!
SpacedoutToast k squad up!

thank u for staying in the loop and current with what's going on on the castlevania community 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
can you guys do the Lufia and Gex games
Alias Fakename What makes the Lufia games special or noteworthy? I know little about them.
CaptainNnif they're pretty fun and challenging at the same time for me, I think it's underrated, plus I love the story of the first game
Thanks for ending the vid with the Motoi Sakuraba cover of Castlevania. That was awesome.
Factual error: There is no disk version of Castlevania III.
The thing i find most amazing about Castlevania is the music
It's just so incredibly, and it even tops soundstracks by today's standards a lot of the time
Did you also know that Victor Belmont's having been teleported to 1666 from the 1800's was omitted by DYG in this particular video? Might've been a little obvious by his having a pistol and all as a sidearm, but still, don't forget the details! Was a GIANT Castlevania fan several years ago :)

Another Easter egg that references Castlevania can be found in Heroes of the Storm. In the Garden of Terror map, when the map goes through the dark cycle, the announcer says "What a joyous night to have a curse."
Is this your first Castlevania video in like 200 videos? If so, wow! Also while I'm here, here's a list of games/franchises I think should get videos:
Super Metroid
Beyond Good & Evil
Saints Row
Monster World IV
Mass Effect Part 2
Metroid Prime Part 2
Borderlands 2
Guacamelee
Device 6
SuperBrothers: Sword & Sorcery
Rayman Origins
Metroid Fusion
Velocity 2X
Jade Empire
Hearthstone
Infamous
Dragon's Cown
Twisted Metal
Shantae
Bastion
Odin Sphere
Sly Cooper
Shovel Knight
Skullgirls
Just to name a few. I know you guys put out videos as quickly as you can, and I hate to complain, but you may have already gotten to some of these if 90% of your content wasn't Mario, Zelda, or Sonic related. Hyperbole intended.

Lol
There's also the fact that Castlevania was referenced in Rosario Vampire. The protagonist, Tsukune, had to train with a whip, and I believe it was called Belmont. Heck, there's an illustration of Tsukune in that volume that has him whip it like Simon in the old NES game.
Netflix animated series is badass. Just too short 4 episodes is not a season.
II Hellion II It is though, when your testing the waters to see how audiences respond to the content.
You know what WILL BE GOOD AND LONG.. (Yes my dick but that is not what I was going for) the DeathNote movie man I can not wait
II Hellion II its like an OVA series
I wish Konami would make more MetroVania style Castlevania games rather than the LoS series.
So Victor was suppose to be how Trevor is depicted in the anime
Lords of Shadow was a great reboot. I don't give a shit about what anyone says, at least LOS2 lets you play as Dracula and I mean actual Dracula not some pretty boy band reject.
Son Goku but he acted like an Ann rice vampire and that's just as bad
The whip is the best video game weapon of all time. Not the Castlevania specific whip per se, but just whips in general. They are awesome and need to be used in more games.
YEEEEE HAWWWWW SIMON IN SMASH BABY
Another intresting thing about the Vampire Hunter card is that it can create a eternal loop with Vampire Lord, much like how in Castlevania the Belmonts are forever forced to battle Dracula.

Did you know? The infamous "A miserable little pile of secrets!" quote from the American release of Symphony of the Night was referenced again in Lords of Shadow.
As a diehard fan since the first nes release; I actually LOVED Lords Of Shadow. Can't see why others don't.
