This video is why YOU ARE MY GUITAR TEACHER!! Simple break down, clear explanations, tho your a great player you show it not tell it like a lot of others I found! I am a disabled veteran who refuses to be a drunk, I play guitar and thanks to you & my hard work...I don't sound too bad!!
Hey Marty - you are a legend in my house. Thanks for the licks and lessons; simple and clear instruction with results that hopefully one day will wow my waiting audiences.
I always watch your videos and I wanted to learn this and couldn’t believe you’d done it !!!! You’ve done it all, appreciate your videos heaps man, I’m 22 now and have been watching since I was about 16 and learnt so much. I’m only just now getting into theory as a self taught guitarist and your videos cover so much of that for me too. You’re a legend
Excellent tutorial as always! I played for years in high school and was quite good, but left it alone for 15-20years. These songs are great to get back into it, since it's a little more difficult than the ordinary 3 chord songs.
Nice. Yeah the light bulbs, yeah ... Rolling between blues and latin jazz these days. I like this song and needed a bump to get the groove. Thanks dude. From Ramona - may the Schwartz be with you!
Just improvise in g pentatonic, play in the same rhythm as the actual solo and you can't go wrong. I've played a cover of it live nearly 30 times and it's worked well each time
Cheers so much for your tutorials Marty. It is so cool to be able to take some time out of life's dung storm and hide in my lounge room watching your videos and learning cool stuff. Much obliged mate.
Excellent instruction style! Not just technical instructions, but also rhythm, timing, feeling. Also, it wasn't rushed. Made me feel like I "want" to learn, compared to some edgy teachers that are all "hey, look at me and how great I am, you lowly slug of a student". Heh he, well maybe I'm stretching it a little, but you get the point.
Hey I'm a beginner guitar player and I was wondering if I could get a tutorial on the song Everybody by Ingrid Michaelson. It seems fairly easy and would love to learn it from you. You're the best teacher on youtube! Thanks :)
I grew up in a time where you had to know someone that knew how to play any songs if you wanted to learn it..or,at the grocery store you could buy a magazine that had cool songs in it that you could learn...and,there were a lot of real cheesy videos you could buy, but I never bought any...I learned by listening to the song and trying to play along with it, rewind and pause were my best friends,lol..thank God for the internet
Holy crap THANK YOU!!! I've always wanted to play this song it's awesome, I have a long ways to go before I can start shredding blues but I'm on my way.
What Marty totally missed in this song is that the chords are played on the UP STROKE not a down stroke. Check any of Jack White's Live versions you'll see he's playing them on an up stroke. I can't believe Marty missed this extremely obvious difference.
Marty love the white stripes lessons, could you possibly look into doing a lesson on either, "When I hear my name" or "Little cream soda" love those songs and there's close no tutorials
An amazing song! I've been learning some of the classic blues tunes and I was wondering if you could do a slide tutorial on the song Dust My Broom either the Robert Johnson or Elmore James version.
You are awesome man, I have learned so many great songs from you. Is there any way you or anyone in your crew may ever take a crack at the three badass solos in this song? I know that is asking a lot, and I know you would get right, if you don't have time I get that too. Just wanted to throw that out there. Thanks for all you do man.
We are having a camping on the beach birthday party with friends here on the Big Island of Hawaii in a few weeks where we are bringing a battery powered micro amp and the electrics....Will be so sick to break this one out and get everybody's heads a bobbin and feets a tappin. Might need to practice in a warehouse for a bit to get that monster sound eh? Thanks Marty.... Aloha, Eddie ( proud club member )
I can do everything except for finding licks when im playing . Could you make a video on various areas of the fretboard i can play licks when im playing something or just messing around? Great viideo
A guitarist better than i once said there is no wrong notes, only different notes. Just head back to the tonic after your licks and you'll be right oi :p
@@redherronrecords holy moly I just realized that comment was seven years ago ! Thank you ! Also my band is playing on Livestream December 5th if you’re interested! www.eventbrite.com/e/cosmotide-livestream-live-from-san-francisco-tickets-125830826389
That turn around at the end(last thing you played) can u make a lesson of it hear it all the time but can't find a lesson for it anywhere please and thanks
MARTY, can you please do a lesson for the song "Lights"- by Aer. I love their style, and the vibe that the intro brings. They are a really good group, and they WILL be big someday. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a lesson on this song, I just cant figure it out on my own...
i was interested in guitar playing and start to studying after this video)) thnx from russia, you're awsome teacher. definitely like p.s. sorry 4 my english
Dunno if it's going to be practical help... but look up Django Reinhardt (Minor Swing is a good place to start) for a bit of inspiration. He's one of the best EVER and he only had two working fingers on his left hand (he badly burned his hand as a teenager). He sounds pretty old-school by todays standards, but he influenced a lot of guys like Tony Iomi (Black Sabbath) who also lost the tip of one of his fretting fingers in an industrial accident. Don't let a freaky pinky slow you down!
That is Beautiful! You are Beautiful! Thank You for sharing your talents! I have no idea why but I have been blushing this whole tutorial because it is so beautiful! Thumbs UP!!
Hey Marty! Could you please do a lesson for 'Cliffs of Dover' By Eric Johnson. I know it's a long song but it's full of awesome guitar! Thanks for all your great lessons and keep doing what your doing :)
i'm in e flat and i just can't get there, you've got to be tuned higher??? e or even higher??? i mute the other way and i'm makin it work in e flat and makin stuff up as i go and i'm usein a pretty good pedal. it's soundin off. good tutorial, i'm get'n it. this stuff don't have to be verbatim, that's what so great about the guitar, you can do what you like. good job man. i don't have a guitar hand so i have to work harder. i have a jackson 6 string and bass and a brand new strat. i really like that jackson with the pedal i have and i've been playing the bass like a 6 string and i almost prefer it, but it won't work for this. i was in an unknown alternative band xx years ago and haven't touched a guitar since, i'm get'n it back, but i need all the help i can get. thanks man. you're a good guy to do this for everybody. right hand is on it, but the left don't get the message, i really have to work at it and being left handed is no help. no way i can play a left handed guitar, i'm ambi, but i can't do that. sometimes i forget what hand i write with, mixed messages you know what i'm sayin and a little dyslexic too. it's a bitch.........hrs later, i got it, jackson 6 string e flat, i got it. not ready to play with jack, but i got it. thanks, now i can really work on it.
Hey Marty! I've been loving your videos for quite a while now, and I really want to play so many of these songs, but do you have any suggestions for a pesky double jointed pinky? It just doesn't do what I need it to. Other than that, you've been so much help to my playing!
Hey Marty sorry for disturbing but i was wondering if you could make a lesson for Nirvana's Oh me it's on their unplugged album and I've tried requesting the lesson over and over again but no luck. And so far i haven't found any helpfull lessons on it.Thanks for your time :D
after all these years of teaching myself how to play with the internet.. we always somehow end up back with Marty
Haha totally agree with you .
Everytime I back myself into a corner and want to throw my guitar against the wall I revert back to Marty .

Marty 10 years agoo 🤯🤯🤯 we getting old but gold
the more white stripes the better
When I play cool blues stuff like this I hit the strings 5X harder than usual.
Dude, give open D or C# tuning a try :)
Marty you is the bomb, finally learnt ball 'n' biscuit properly. May fortune favour you continuously
Best teacher on UA-cam. And awesome song choice. Love Jack whites style.

And an expensive one at that
Marty....thanks for more White Stripes. any and all white stripes appreciated.....

Just improvise in g pentatonic, play in the same rhythm as the actual solo and you can't go wrong. I've played a cover of it live nearly 30 times and it's worked well each time
@@bruhmoment1075 Why isn't it e pentatonic?
@@HeresaBanana E minor is the relative minor of G major, and conversely G major is the relative major of E minor.
@@thomascoucke9661 I have so much to learn
Mad Banana play e minor pentatonic over this- even though the song is in e major, the sound of blues and rock is minor pentatonic over major chords
this is definitely a great tutorial. It sounds great to improvise with that E minor pentatonic blues scale.
Thank you so much Marty. I break a lot of the rules you talk about. Thank you for putting all of this out there for free
SO MUCH valuable techniques in the last 6 mins
can't believe i missed this lesson.. awesome and easy thanks

Love that tone you have in this lesson. Can fans send you hats to wear in your videos? Like Bill Cosby did with college sweatshirts on tv.

Thank you so much for this video, was like perfect timing. I was just about to look up a tab. :)
Perfect. Thank you.
The thing that makes these licks sound good is the strumming pattern. Demonstrating the strum pattern would make this easier to follow.
