Thanks for watching all! I know doing lists like this is just asking for trouble, but here it is. My top 10 White Stripes riffs, which on another day could be slightly different. Feel free to disagree.
Agree, punk had been doing that for decades. Like try playing The Clash's White Riot so that it sounds "right". It's harder than songs that are much more "technical" and you don't realize it until you actually try to get it right.
i swear icky thump is one of the most catchiest riffs ever. Me and my friends have a little "band" where we get together in a garage and just jam. I'm usually on the keyboard or bass (mainly bass), my friend's on the drums and she's alright. Nothing fancy, a bit like Meg White in the sense of simplicity, but is actually kind of great when she tries. Then I have another friend on the guitar who's pretty decent. Can nail the Sweet Child o' Mine solo. If we had a bandleader it'd be her for sure. And another friend who's another keyboardist but can also play guitar (mainly does rhythm). There really is no other riff that hits as hard. Damn, the whole vibe just changes. We're head banging and basically jumping, then we laugh so hard we almost cry. Ugh I hope the pandemic is over soon so we can jam again
Listening to all of these actually makes you sit there and think about how much the white stripes did kind of depend on megs drumming, dont get me wrong the guitar work that jack puts in is phenomenal but i cant be the only one who kind of thought this seemed empty because of no drums. Btw you did a damn good job on the riffs and the sound was perfect
Jack said himself that he wouldn't be as big if he just had a regular drummer, like ones who go fast on multiple parts of the drum kit while Meg's equivalent is high Tom and snare drum with one hand and the other just the crash cymbal
Black math is my personal favorite but thank you so much for including I'm bound to pack it up and Jimmy the exploder. So underrated! Also ur really talented, keep up the good work
Nice video. This shows the eneregy that Meg White provided to the songs. Some of these riffs feel simple and unimportant, but put Meg and Jack together, and then the magic happens. One of the best bands of this century so far
My White Stripes riffs top 10 - The Union Forever 9 - I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself 8 - Catch Hell Blues 7 - Death Letter 6 - Apple Blossom 5 - Aluminium 4 - Blue Orchid 3 - I Think I Smell a Rat 2 - Little Cream Soda 1 - Ball and Biscuit
Love these riffs, you did a great job in covering them!! Also tbh this video really proves how much Meg's drumming adds to the songs, I kept waiting for her to come in
I was going say that some of the songs didn’t sound quite right, but I did read your comments first which reminded me that Jack White does frequently change the way he plays songs. So your top 10 is definitely in the spirt of things so thumbs up👍 for keeping it real😎
@@bloxsy_ Jim Vincent started to work with KC at IU tour. I don't know if still works with JW, but I think it's credited at Under Blackpool Lights dvd.
Bernard made some top riffs with JD, simple but great. Day of the Lords, Twenty Four Hours, She's Lost Control, Means to an End all come to mind, amongst many other, god they never wrote a bad song. One of the best bands of all time.
Thanks. I kind of avoided some of the slide riffs if I'm honest. If next time I do a longer list I'll try and include some. Sister Do You Know My Name is a great song.
I tought the list would/should be: 10. Seven Nation Army 9. Seven Nation Army 8. Seven Nation Army 7. Seven Nation Army 6. Seven Nation Army 5. Seven Nation Army 4. Seven Nation Army 3. Seven Nation Army 2. Seven Nation Army 1. Seven Nation Army
i have to say you have some really good picks, but Screwdriver would probably replace one of these picks for me personally. probably replacing Astro or Black Math (not necessarily in each respective position), it's so simple and yet great, especially the little bend part

100% agree with your top 10.

@@danielalcala1044 Good call.
Artists like Jack White and Kurt Cobain truly showed the world that simplicity is virtuosity.
True that

I swear seeing black math live is a wave of adrenaline like no other
I can imagine. Must have been phenomenal!
So lucky

Icky thump sounds almost identical to this one Led Zeppelin tune. You can tell a lot of rock and roll artist were inspired by that band!
the first white stripes album is so underrated! amazing list!
I agree probably my favourite.
It is not underrated at all. Are you mad?
@@bloxsy_ mine is white blood cells but self titled might be tied with elephant
Lochlann Turner white blood cells is definitely the best
Finally some credit to "Icky Thump" Main Riff!!
It's one of the best ever made.
Definitely their best.

It's the vocals
Jack said himself that he wouldn't be as big if he just had a regular drummer, like ones who go fast on multiple parts of the drum kit while Meg's equivalent is high Tom and snare drum with one hand and the other just the crash cymbal
Or just drums in general
Jack White never gets the credit he deserves as a pure riff machine in my opinion. Some of the most simple icon riffs ever.
I love all of these, but Rag And Bone or Fell In Love With A Girl should have been on here.
Definitely fell in love with a girl
Yes those are my favorites.
I watched just to see fell in love with a girl
If tuned to open a and got a slide he could have done catch hell blues also
Definitely I’m finding it harder to be a gentleman as well
Black math is my personal favorite but thank you so much for including I'm bound to pack it up and Jimmy the exploder. So underrated! Also ur really talented, keep up the good work

great stuff, 'Girl you have no faith in medicine' deserves a place here

Not a fan of Gibson guitars, lookswise but that is one beautiful SG
1985cactus it’s an epiphone.
Dmitriy Zubko what model???
V special I think
Funnily enough, it’s the cheapest epiphone sg you can get
Its not a gibby, but is pretty good looking. Ive always had a thing for dark woods
Love these but where’s Ball and Biscuittt
Ball and Biscuit has to be the best song off of Elephant... Honestly, it's a masterpiece...
Bit it isn't the riff that makes that song great. It's the solos
This could have easily been a top 15, even top 20
Your videos demystify so many songs that I would otherwise be too scared (intimidated) to look up! Thank you.
Love your videos.
Something about the White Stripes always draws me back to them. Even though my favorite band is Rush, everything about the White Stripes I still love
I think Catch Hell Blues should be on the Top.
So underrated
Catch Hell Blues is so fucking good fr
Nice video! Without the drums we can see how important were Meg’s drums, the force of icky thump is not the same without her smashing
Jimmy the Exploder is fucking genius! One of the best riffs of all time!
The guitar tone is SPOT ON
When my band mates and I don't know what to jam on, we whip out The White Stripes riffs🤘

“Offend In Every Way” is my top pick
one of the most underrated riffs of all time, i fought piranas.
Jack is definitely one of my favorite guitarist
I missed Cannon :-)
I think it's very curious that Kurt and Jack do power chords in a unusual way and had the same guitar tech, Jim Vincent.

White stripes: An underated masterpiece
This is true
They aren't underrated at all. Theyre generally rated very highly by most people.
@@achilles872 well, lots of people say that Jack White isn't a good guitar player at all and think that he's overrated :/
Damn dude! That tone is awesome, sounds pretty accurate to the recording. Nice vid man.
That guitar is beautiful
Nice work! It should have been top 20 or even 30! Most of Jack's riffs are catchy af
Yes I should have done 20 really, most their songs have riffs in them.
You nailed Dead Leaves in the Dirty Ground
What I do on dead leaves and the Dirty ground is light vibrato on the first bar then heavy vibrato on the second?
.
Little bird would definitely have to be in my top 10, perfect encapsulation of old school blues and garage rock
great electric guitar tone
Top 10 joy divisions songs!

Easy and simple riffs to play but try playing them and singing at the same time like Jack does, not so easy now.
