Wild you are the best, love all your helpful hints etc. Stay here don't ever leave ....at least for another 15 years.
Super glad I can help you out with your painting adventures - I dont plan on going anywhere he he he
It is best to paint like yourself. Once you learn your almighty lessons, then develop your own style. That is what brings the joy of painting.
There is no right or wrong answer here. I am a fan of learning the basics then adding your own flare or style. But go with whatever approach is best for you and your needs.
Thanks for the tips now I can paint suave like Bob Ross and furious like Bill Alexander!
Heck ya buddy - Give it a try.
6:37 Bwahahahaha, I laughed out loud for that! :D Thanks for the laughs!
Glad I can make your day a little bit better
I found Bill Alexander's books. They have wear, but are worth owning, as he has big reproductions of the paintings. The Walter Foster book written by Bill, and magic of oil3 and 5. . They are very helpful.
Very nice - I have not had the chance to see them yet. I do know you can still get them on the alexander art website. But not sure if they have changed over time.
Like one of the comments below said I never get tired of hearing you repeat yourself because it gets drums it into my brain and helps me to remember what I need to do at what stage of my painting thank you so much for all your help and advice.
You know what that is true, repetition is a great way to make you remember something for when you paint. I will do my best to keep bringing you awesome videos and tips
I watch Bill to get me going in the morning
And Bob to help me relax at night
Ha ha ha - That is the perfect way of putting it ha ha ha
When you said “slow down” I really thought you would of drop the F bomb 🤣
Ha ha ha - I will save that for the big big ones
Thanks for the video, I have found that if I repaint the exact same thing again I do WORSE!
Not to be harsh BUT that shouldn't happen.
Sounds like you are trying to add to much OR you are not allowing yourself to learn from your mistakes and just powering through the painting. Set the old painting up next to the one you are about to paint... this way you can see what you need to improve.
Also take you time :)
There is another benefit to taking your time. A lot of times, especially as beginners, we struggle to control the thickness of paint and end up mud mixing. Stepping away for a while to give the paint a bit of drying time helps keep the layers from mixing when you don't want them to. Just because it is a wet on wet tutorial doesn't mean we have to do it that way. A little wet on dry painting is not cheating.
Amen Brother... taking your time helps out in so so so many different ways 💪
I know this is a year old video, but your tutorial and tips and tricks are so very helpful and I appreciate them so much! I am waiting for the medium to arrive so watching tons of your vids, practicing a little with acrylics, like painting trees and the like, but can't wait to actually start painting the Bob Ross way. Thanks again for all you do.
I am stoked that I can help you out. I have plenty of videos for new painters ( so be sure to check them out ).
Also let me know how it goes with your oil painting with your medium arrives.
Thanks for these videos!!
Glad you like them!
I hope the tips help you out
I change my home so hope that arrange my personal creative space
Hell ya buddy - Make it your own :)
You are so much fun! I’m so glad I found your channel🎨🖌️🖼️
I am glad that you found me too
Awesome tips I needed to hear them. I am making my 3rd bedroom my art studio. Everything you are saying is right on.
I would love to see it when its all done. I am actually thinking of changing mine up for a new camera angle. We will see how it turns out.
Great advice Wild!😊
Glad you think so!
Thanks for all the great tips. I haven't been painting lately due to focusing on house and yard work..ugh. I am feeling the need to paint!! Lol...you always inspire me and I don't get tired of hearing your repeated hints. 🙂
No joke... same here ha ha ha. I just painted my downstairs and half of my up stair walls in my home. Good luck with all your work and when you come back. Give this video another peak for a refresher so when you get your brushes wet again you will be ready 💪
I am in the same boat trying to get everything ready for spring along with dealing with auto repairs. Most of my painting is now done sitting in my car on my lunch break at work. I found a pochade box at a thrift store for $6. It just needed some cleaning and minor repairs. I downloaded some reference photos to a cheap tablet and keep it in the car with the box. I found out the hard way though, I have to remember to keep the windows down while painting even with odorless mineral spirits. lol
@@RevRedmondFarrier Wow! Good for you! Yes, do be careful of those fumes!!!
I have an inward drive to paint, from digital to watercolor to oil. Lately it's been wet on wet with a drive to conquer wet on wet. I watched Bill alot when I was a teenager, there is no better teacher than Bill (God rest his soul he passed on in 1995, ), and because of all of the German spoke in my house, his accent is no big deal. I ve found myself making a few mistakes, or missing steps here and there but I know I will conquer these things.....and Fire Innnnn
Great tips!
Glad it was helpful!
These will for sure help you nail an tutorial with them :)
Thank you
You are super welcome Torie. Hit that Sub button and we will call it even.
Again great advise tell me if your not using low Oder thinners what are we us
You can use things like baby oil - Its a little messy but works.

Amazing video, and just the day after I did a Bill Alexander walk along. Though I did get one thing I didn't like about it, which was that sometimes he doesn't tell which colors he's mixing, so you're left guessing a bit. :D
Yeah he does skip over a few things every now and then. I think though if you look at the YT video description. It lists out the colors there.
Hey Wild, Thanks for all your help!
Wondering when using a wet to wet process and the paint dries, I want to come back to it, and add or finish the painting, do I apply liquid clear before starting back on that canvas? Thanks for any help you can provide
You can do it with any liquid base medium ( if it is needed ). Generally I will use a little bit of Liquid White BUT it really depends on the painting and style. I hope that helps.
@@WildCreates Thanks for getting back to me. You are awesome ! I am using the Bob Ross method, and run onto mud mixing. I am thinking of letting the work I have done so far, dry and then do highlights. Would you still recommend Liquid white or liquid clear, or just apply oil onto the painted canvas?
A common issue for new painters so dont let it get you down. It is completely fine to let the painting dry a little then apply highlights. When it comes to the highlights just use a nice fatty paint that flows and you will be good to go :)
How do you do the wet on wet technique of the base layer is dry? Will it mix okay?
Just re-wet it OR add a thin wet clear coat on top and continue painting.
Bob and William Alexander are both unique in different ways like Alexander paints a lot better and Bob has a better positive attitude
They are both great to learn from.
Hello Wild Creates, I am a beginner interested in painting . This was the very first time I ran into your channel which is very helpful and expands my horizon. Can I ask you a few questions : 1) Can I use acrylic paints instead of oil paints on canvas. 2) After priming the canvas with gesso , gambling solvent free gel or Liquin, do I leave it completely dry to paint or leave it a very little wet before applying on acrylic paints? 3) Is there a name of canvas I should get? Please also give me description of the canvas in order to get the right canvas from its varieties. Thank you.
1) Yes you can but I recommend open acrylics. I have a few videos on it which you can watch below:
- Liquid White: ua-cam.com/video/uOZACe0v_Do/v-deo.html
- 3 recipes: ua-cam.com/video/nI5D-HC7e5o/v-deo.html
2) Use gesso then let it dry. Then apply you liquid base on top of the dried gesso. Then you are ready to start painting right away.
3) I like to use level 3 canvases when I can. Link below:
- Level 3 Canvas: go.magik.ly/ml/13f9a/
How can you firm up paints that are too soft?
You can use certain mediums like cold wax and impasto OR if you want a little hack that you can do at home. Watch this video below:
Make paint firmer: ua-cam.com/video/afpoNnOnD3k/v-deo.html
@@WildCreates thank you, I will try that.
No Problem buddy.
Let me know how it goes for ya.
Bill is easier to paint along with. He stops and talks which gives you time to catch up.
I think so too. Both have so much to teach you AND even though they are similar they are also very different 💪
