I don’t comment on your videos that often, but I just wanted to say thank you for all your information. I have a Phalaenopsis orchid that we’ve had for two years, and she is finally bloomed. Beautiful flowers, white with a hint of purple. Thank you so very much!

I am so glad that I found you a couple of weeks ago when an orchid I had Inherited began to die. I hadn’t a clue about orchids or any epiphytes, but when I took it out of the pot and saw the rotted roots, I knew I needed help. I couldn’t even recognize the medium it had been potted in!!! You not only saved that orchid (it is stable and I THINK showing signs of new roots to come), you inspired me to try more. Your techniques work every time. Your explications are intelligent and clear. Your information is sound. Thank you for what you do, Dani. I wish you peace during this crisis so close to your own roots.

I'm very glad you showed nutrient deficiency... I hope this will help a lot of people to see issues with their orchids...
I wish more views to your videos!
I must confess when I go for a walk I see orchids here orchids there because they're quite easy to get in supermarkets nowadays. And they look OK (now) but then I go across ones that are older and look soooo neglected 🤦‍♂️
It's like they're screaming "I'm hungry, damn it!" And it's so easy to care...
Breaks my heart every time! 💔
One time I even bought out one very neglected phaleonpsis from a lady because I couldn't look any more how she was slowly just dieing on the window!
Belive me when I tell it was well worth for the lady 💶! She got her money and I duct-taped my heart a little 😄
That phaleonpsis (Phantom) is now thriving and flowering beautifully! And I even got a keiki from her ❤️ so now I have two Phantoms 👻
I'm hoping that you will show the progress of your Blueberry orchid how it will regain her strength 😁👍
PS: Ever noticed that the orchid you save from withering are sort of more vigorous after? Maybe it's just me but... 🤔

Straightforward information and I now have a gorgeous blue Phalaenopsis on my wish list, ‘Yang Yang Blueberry’’. This is just what I needed! Thank you. I hope you are well one year later than posting date. I am primarily an organic vegetable gardener. I have had phenomenal results using plane alfalfa meal pallets as a slow release fertilizer. It is a common animal feed, and inexpensive. In the USA you can get a 40 pound bag for $12. That’s enough to fertilize 800 to 1000 ft.² every other year and alfalfa generates a compound which boosts the performance of other plants. You may already know this, because I know there are fertilizers which feature alfalfa. I am going to try adding pellets tomorrow on the kids pot to help with the long time, and I will get back on a proper fertilizing schedule to help this plant get back up to speed. I’ll shut up now. Thanks again.

I have struggled to get msu in the UK as well... After using it very successfully for over a year I suddenly couldn't find anywhere that would deliver to me here. So! Try Akernes Rain Mix, apparently it's supposed to be Europe's answer to msu. The developers studied msu, did a bunch of trials and came up with the goods. I've been using it for about 6 months now and all seems to be going well. Lovely flower displays with all my orchids this year with multiple spikes on all but a few. So Rain mix seems to be a good substitute. There was a scare a little while back about root burn with rain mix but all my roots look absolutely fine to me. 👍

Perfect timing! The yellowing on one lower leaf of one of my phals began a few days ago and has progressed quite rapidly. It's had beautiful blooms for 2 or 3 months and receives regular fertilization. Could it be just natural death of the leaf?

I love your videos. I've used your advice so many times in the past to help my orchids recover, or thrive better than they were. I just divided an oncidium intergenetic ( I think Sharry baby, or Sharry berry. It's been so long since she bloomed, I can't remember) I had enough to take 4 divisions, but the last division that really didn't fit with any of the others were just 2 back bulbs with no roots, but the back bulbs themselves are quite plump, and healthy looking. I have them in a sphagnum and soil / per-lite mix right now. Do you think there's any chance they'll grow new shoots and roots? What would you do if you had them?

Hey @missorchidgirl I hope you are well. As I was watching this, I was reminded of a question I wanted to post to your channel. I have a vague memory of a comment you made in a past video about how the length of new leaves in comparison to the previous set of leaves is a good indicator of how well a phal is developing. While I am now able to get my phals to grow their leaves as long as or longer than the preceding leaf, none of the leaves grown under my care are nearly as wide as those grown while under the care of a nursery. Is this to do with nutrients, lighting or culture? All three perhaps. Any thought?

Sticks out like a sore thumb! They say it sticks out because when you have a sore thumb, and you're trying to do tasks, you can't concentrate very hard on the task at hand because your sore thumb keeps throbbed and its the only thing you can think about.
Some say it's because a sore thumb gets red and swollen and therefore sticks out more then the other fingers and thumb, but that's just a cartoon lol.

    • @elaineculbert8594
      @elaineculbert8594 2 роки тому +1

Hi Kathleen … I’m not an expert but maybe I can tell you what I do. I had no idea on how to water; I used to hold the orchid under the kitchen tap for about two minutes. With my other houseplants that grow in soil, I water well (until water runs out the drain holes) but with orchid’s being in bark, water flows through immediately - I worried I wasn’t doing it correctly.
But now, I leave the orchid in its outer (decorative) second pot, run water until room temperature and fill the pots (both pots) to almost the top, being careful to avoid the base of the orchid’s stem (hopefully, to avoid stem rot). I let the orchid soak for 20 to 30 minutes, lift the orchid + its transparent pot out and empty the water that’s in the second outer pot. I put the orchid back in the outer pot then after say, 10 minutes, I check for any residual water (hopefully, to avoid root rot). There’s always more water so I tip that out and return the orchid to its outer pot. I water my orchids every weekend and have kept mine alive for almost 8 years now.

Aw I'm so sorry to hear that. That's the worst... I hope you will be able to find a suitable fertiliser alternative in the end. I can always send you some of my rainmix fertiliser if you need it and don't want to support them xx have an amazing day Danny!

Why do you say there is NO orchid fertilizer sold in the entire European Union? Orchids are so super popular in the EU they even have orchid growers and hybridizers. What do you think these people are using on their orchids?
