- This is another update on my Epic Orchid Rescue, this time, we are trying to save a few dehydrated orchids with no roots. The leaves of the phalaenopsis are very wrinkled, shriveled, and lifeless. After a few weeks, I'm trying to bring these two plants back to life.

Yay! Recovery 🙂 love seeing the little nubbins popping out! I have been able to find just the right amount of moisture for success with sphagnum moss in my ICU orchids.

I had a similar situation. I attached the sick phal to a coconut fiber stick. I misted it and attached 2 healthy phals with this sick one. While misting the leaves kept deteriorating but I noticed little nubs extending out. The bottom leaves yellowed but then a new leaf emerged after 2 weeks. The roots are extending with red edges. I slowed down on the misting as the phals were under a shade cloth. The phals are doing well after 5 weeks now.

Good morning Jess, I remember that box of Phalaenopsis. Great video, glad you were able to get roots. The bag method always ends with mold for me also I don’t try it anymore. Tea is a good option. Great growing.

Hello their I am just messaging random people that I read their comments and it sounds like you’re pretty good at what you’re doing so I need help I have a beautiful orchid her DNA is amazing she sprawled Kiki’s all the time very happy healthy Orcutt but I ran into a problem I dropped it it broke it’s got one leaf left and no roots I have it soaking in coffee grinds and in water tea culture can someone please give me an answer as to how long this is going to take to see some growth thank you
I've never heard of the blsack tea method, but sounds like it works👍👍 my rootless phals, I've just put the rootless base in a small pot of maist spag and it seems to the juob for me, not sunk in, but supported with something like your support you used dry in the humidity tent.... good info, thanks 😊😊

That's a great way for you who has a special setup with the humidity tent, but what can we poor slobs with no humidity tent do?
Im not an expert with orchids, but Im using a clear storage container as of today and feeling good about it. There’s also wet paper towels at the bottom and I use a mister under the lid and on the walls so the moisture will disperse as the partial sun warms it.
I had the same sort of thing happen to one of mine so I mixed up some seaweed fertilizer in a spray bottle and gave the root area a spray and couple times a day and it didn't take much time before I saw lots of roots appear.

potassium nitrogen magnesium .plant had two keikes so I planted one and leveing other till I know mother plant is finished. There's a small leaf in center as well so hopes and some time will tell.. THANKS FOR VIDEO .MAY THE ORCHID BIRD FLY OVER YOU PLANT AND BLESSE IT.
How about rootless vanda? I’m at the end of my rope trying to make her sprout just one root! I have another one but with a little bit of roots present. After babying her for about three months, if not longer, she started producing roots! Tiny little bumps! But I’m ecstatic! But her bigger but rootless sis is not fairing well… Both are clearance Lowe’s rescues.

3:40 you said you put it on your high humidity room and watered it every day... What does water it every day mean? A mist from a spray bottle? A 10 minute soak? A dip in water?
I’m a newbie. Just trying to keep them alive is a struggle. Some show new roots after looking like it’s gonna die, then it starts to go downward again. 😟Seems it’s humidity, they like. I want to keep trying to see if I can figure these plants out tho.
Good luck with your plants! It takes some getting used to. I find that if I treat them more like a succulent or cactus, they do better. 🍀🤞

This particular plant support came with an old pepper plant start. There are some great stands on Amazon, but I haven’t used them personally 😀

Hi thanks for the video! I’ve also got a really dehydrated rootless orchid at the moment. How do you build a humidity tent? I’m trying to up the moisture so I’ve put some damp spaghnum moss and made a humidity tray but it doesn’t seem to be doing all that better yet. When did you start seeing improvements more than it getting worse?
My humidity tent is like a greenhouse outdoors. If you have one plant, I think you can increase humidity by putting a plastic bag over the plant and add some holes for ventilation. It took about a month to see signs of progress but depending on the heat/weather it could take longer.

Hi, Jess! I’m trying your support stand and humidity method in a clear storage container for a tent and I’m feeling hopeful. These orchids have been wrinkly for maybe two months now and all have very small root systems. I just put them in the container today. Do you think fertilizer spray is a good idea while they’re in the humidity box?

How much is enough light for these type of plants? I have a rootless phal and I noticed that she's capable of growing roots but once they grow an inch they start drying out. I've repotted twice and it has gotten even worse, I'm now in the process of getting a smaller pot hoping I can still save it ... it's winter out here so IDK how well is this poor thing going to do.
They can take indirect light, an east or west facing window will do. If the roots dry out, it could be due to lack of humidity. It’s possible to put it in a smaller pot and maybe a plastic bag with a few air holes to maintain higher humidity. It will grow slowly in the winter...so it will do better in a warm location or with a heat mat. Good luck!
Hello. Thank you for your video! I have a phal that I kept in medium for a few months and I noticed the roots started to rot, so I repotted it in another kind of medium, because I couldn't find the one I had. That one unfortunately destroyed most of my roots and now the phal always develops white fungus and black mold on the stem and it's small 3 roots. What do you suggest I should do?
You can let the plant roots dry out so it doesn’t rot and mold. Too much cold/humid conditions can cause mold to grow. It might be easier to soak the plant for a few minutes to get it hydrated and then dry it out the rest of the week. A heat mat may help the media dry out faster and prevent mold growth during the winter season. Good luck 🍀

My favorite orchid she’s amazing and so beautiful and she always shoots out new stems and Kiki’s like Wyatt and now I got a big problem she’s got no roots left and one leaf left I have her and water culture soaking in coffee grinds and teaCould you please help me I don’t want to lose this orchid tell me what I’m doing wrong or tell me what I could do better and please tell me how long it takes because after a couple weeks I start to get stressed out if I don’t see new growth and then I give up
If the orchid has one root left, make sure it's still growing with a green lead on the root tip. It may recover but usually at this stage, it may be a long road before it's fully recovered. Orchids are slow growers and slow die-ers...it takes a long time to see any progress, so have hope. Usually these plants will lose roots due to overwatering. It's better to let them dry out between watering sessions before you water again. Good luck!

When you tried the spag and bag method before, did you boil the moss? I had a similar issue before, getting mould, but a member from our society said you need to boil the moss for 15 minutes to kill off the pathogens before doing it (you also need to cleanup and disinfect the plant with hydrogen peroxide). When I tried that, I didn't get the mould issue again. Anyway, if you ever need/want to go back to spag and bag, try boiling the moss to see if that helps :)
Hmm, good to know! I never tried to boil the moss, but I did disinfect the plant. When I try it again, I'll see if that helps with the mold issue. :)

My orchid is like this. Any advice on what I could do? I tried water culture and the bag method. I got mold with the bag method. I think there is hope. The leaves are still big, firm, and green. I've been misting it everyday. but since I tried the bag method and had mold now the base is yellowing :X.
You can cut off the yellowing base, if possible. Let it dry for a bit and then water it daily to see if can rehydrate. This is usually the time when new roots emerge, but if it’s in a weakened state, it may sacrifice some leaves to stay alive. It’s tricky to recover orchids with no roots and sometimes it may be too far gone. Good luck!
@@AttainableGreen I don't think I want to cut the base. I did too much cutting which is how I got into this mess I think. :X I have read that phalaenopsis will shead leaves to try & save itself. I think that's what's happening. I ended up just going back to water culture method (at least things didn't get worse when I did that). If it goes it goes at this point but I tried my best!

I got the box from my aunt, she collected the orchids from her workplace decorations. If you wanted to purchase a box of discounted orchids, there are wholesalers and some business after-market sellers that are available but usually found locally.
My orchids look about like yours. The medium dries so fast in my house, even sphag moss. I need help. :( they both had root rot yet their mediunm dries bone dry fast af
Root rot usually means that it’s staying much too wet for too long. But if it’s drying out too fast, it may mean that the media doesn’t have a chance to absorb enough water to keep the plant hydrated
Hi, I've tried the black tea method but it didn't work for me..sadly..however by the time I was trying rehydrate her, she developed another keiki and the big leaves fell off...keikis still don't have roots so I cannot cut them off, but I'm not sure if the mother orchid without roots will survive till the roots of keikis develop. Do you have some advice for me please?
That’s a tough situation. If there are two keikis and no roots, the best thing would be to put the entire plant in a warm, humid location. It may need to be hydrated through the leaves as the roots are waiting to develop. The mother plant will consume all its leaves to try to give more energy to the keikis. Also, if one keiki isn’t growing well, you might have to sacrifice the weaker keiki so the other may live. Good luck!

Thanks, but stressful and annoyin time-and energy-waste when you omiy´t telling what you mean, what you do,Miss! What the hell is a humidity tent, and how the heck do you "water"a Palaeo that has no roots? Anxiety how one can be thrown awaybecause people don't want the bother to help. But animals and plnats get help. They are simpler. PEople don't realize how much more worth a human is óf life, of rescue! A most terrible hazard of today. HAppy New Year anyway!
