    As I am from the tropical belt - my orchids are outdoors (away from direct sunlight), but they do get the rain water whenever it rains. Apart from that, I soak them for about 10 mins in a rain water bath to which I add a little weak fertiliser. Every two weeks or so, I flush them with plain rain water (which I collect). If it rains for days on end, I do not bother to water them, and they seem to love it. I have no blooms as yet, as most of them are thriving babies - or dormant. I only started growing orchids from around Sep/Oct last year.

    First off, I have a number of hobbies and am constantly seeking information on all of them. You are by far one of, if not the best, instructional video maker I've come across. Love the detail and depth you go into. I can honestly say I would still be failing miserably at orchids likely were it not for you.
    Do you have a process for proactive treatment of pests, other than quarantine, on new orchids that you get in? Quarantine is ideal except that I have so many plants there's not really much of an area to quarantine, at the moment. I noticed a couple videos where you spray peroxide on the roots in case they have snails, but my instinct would be to treat the leaves as well just to kill off any spider mites, etc., that may have hitchiked on them. Is there a reason you don't? I'd love to see a video on that subject.

    I always get very confused about watering or not when I see condensation on the pot. Since spring began, I started noticing lots of condensation on the pots and so I put off watering for much longer than usual, and now my orchids are definitely dehydrated (leaves are starting to get a bit limpy). The condensation just throws me off. Do you have any advice on this? For now, I think I will ignore the condensation and just look at the medium/roots.

It has a pot that has goes a bit in to airate it at the bottom. Felt in there and was still wet, but the outside of the pot looked dry. A good method to get almost distilled water is to collect water that is produced by the AC unit, it’s just condensation and it’s safe to use with plants (I say almost distilled because I’m not 100% sure if it is actually distilled but it surely is very soft water)

      Hi, bud blast can occur from various reasons, starting from wild temperature swings, to stress of sorts, or acclimation periid. So just think about what hsppened recently with the orchid and if it had reason for stress. If the orchid is healthy, all is well, it will rebloom next season ☺️

    Danny why whenever i repot some phalaenopsis, the roots keeps rotting..

    • @Eryalb
      @Eryalb 3 роки тому

      This could be due to transplant shock, especially if the previous medium was more water retentive than the new medium. If you take it out of sphagnum moss for example and repot it into only bark, then this will be a big change and the roots might desiccate. If you do this kind of repotting, it's best to keep the new medium more moist so the orchid can slowly adjust versus a sudden change. If you can wait until new roots are growing to repot then that will reduce the changes of transplant shock.

    • @juliapaust4840
      @juliapaust4840 3 роки тому

      Hi Christopher, whenever you want to repot a phalaenopsis, try to wait until you see the root tips are actively growing, that is, they look very green or pinkish and shine. Then they will adapt very well. It's also in most times better to repot after the flowers are gone - normally the roots start growing at this point. Just wait for the most roots to start actively growing, then they'd adapt without any problems. You might still loose some old roots, but that's normal. Happy growing!

      Looks like a Paphiopedilum or slipper orchid. I have one which is named ‘Black Jack’ which has the same mottled, snake like leaves. The leaves are really attractive to look at once the bloom has finished, but it produces only one or maybe two flowers. The flowers do all look like slippers though, which is pretty cool.

    My phalenopsis has a leaf that just turned mushy and it is just water. So far it has not leaked and the leaf has not been punctured. I think it is due to watering on top of the leaves. Very weird I've never seen a leaf do this.

      Sounds like a fungus infection. It happened to mine too, and it died in a few days

    I've got a mini orchid and it is so difficult to know when the medium is dry bc i cant really put my finger in it 😪

    • @Eryalb
      @Eryalb 3 роки тому

      You could try inserting a bamboo skewer into the medium. If it has a wet mark when you pull it out, then the orchid probably doesn't need any water.

    I keep seeing amazing orchid pictures on instagram with super long flower spikes and 30+ blooms on each spike. How do those commercial/professional growers get such amazing results? Besides living in a tropical environment of course. Thanks. BTW, I've learned a lot from your videos and really appreciate the content. keep it up. wouldn't mind putting a face to the voice too :). Hi, first of all there are a few hybrids which can do that, not all of them can produce so many blooms. Then the orchids are not induced for multiple years to get strenght, they get quite a lot of ferts and then, when they are strong enough, they let them get their cooldown. You can type in the search bar 'missorchidgirl sogo yukidian' to see such a floriferous hybrid, in a typical home with yearly inducing. Not quite 50 flowers, more like 20, but it has the potential with that special treatment ☺️

    Too little water, too much water...
    I'm trying to save a phal that was suffering from too little water, but now I'm damaging it more with too much water. The medium I changed it into, is too tiny and stays wet too long for the amount of roots it still has. Poor thing. But it does still have some poor struggling roots and one plump leaf and a dead leaf. There's still hope.
