This is a cover version of an Inez and Charlie Fox song from 1963 performed at the No Nukes Concert in 1979. James Taylor and Carly Simon were married at the time and their chemistry shines right through.
This song was on one of Carly's albums. I think James wrote some additional lyrics for it. I recall that it got a lot of radio play at the time. It's just a fun song. They both are very talented artists. James is a fantastic acoustic guitarist , has a beautiful honeyed kind of voice and he has written a lot of terrific songs. Carly also has fabulous voice and a lot of great songs. They both have a unique sound to their voices. If u heard them on the radio--u knew it was them right away. And when they sang together their voices blended beautifully, which is interesting since they both have such singular sounds.
Love this one! It's one of my favorite duets. They made what I always thought of as a children's song, sound funky. Love how they banter back and forth and overlap and just play off each other. Both are very talented.
Carly and James were married when they did this. Carly is the daughter of mega-wealthy Richard L. Simon, founder of publishing house Simon and Schuster.
I sang this to my daughter so much she had the lyrics down by age 5. She takes one part and I take the other. Now she’s going to have a daughter in June. Hope she passes this on.
I’m so excited & I haven’t even watched the reaction yet! James is known as 1 of the best song writers of all time…my brother is a musician & they have very similar voices. Growing up I always thought it was my brother on the radio. Then when I’d go see his band in person it sounded the same. Obviously eventually I learned the truth lol! My brother wrote a song for James Taylor’s brother Livingston Taylor. Carly Simon is an amazing singer songwriter & musician too. They were together at one point in they’re lives. I’ve been to many many of Taylor’s concerts! Great Crowd! Great People! Great Music! Great Atmosphere! He still performs anyone who can should go see him if you can! ✌🏻☀️
A favorite Carly Simon song is That's the Way I've Aways Heard It Should Be. And James Taylor is an endlessly engaging singer/songwriter. Please check out his duet with JD Souther on Her Town. There's his iconic Fire and Rain of course but also Mexico, Steamroller, and a song I completely relate to called Traveling Star.
Brad & Lex, James Taylor, you’ll love his “You’ve Got A Friend”, “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)” and “Your Smiling Face”!! He’s one of the great singer/songwriters/guitarists!! For Carly Simon: you’ll love her “Nobody Does It Better”, “Haven’t Got Time For The Pain” and “You Belong To Me!!!!. One of the great singer/songwriters!! Plays guitar and piano!!
There is some basic physics involved with the tone and size of the mouth, etc. Large structures resonate at low frequencies and resonance is required to both emit and absorb waves (light and sound). Elephants can communicate with other elephants in notes way too low for us to hear. Cats and dogs can hear and emit pitches higher than we can hear. If they're bigger than us, lower notes, smaller than us, higher notes, our size, same notes.
They had a #5 hit single with this duet (the studio version on Carly's 1974 album), which was a cover of a 1963 hit duet. James and Carly didn't have any other major hits as a couple.
Remember these two where married at one time, and had a son and daughter together ❤❤ Love them both and love this song. Country singer Toby Keith and his daughter sang this song together, and I was actually shocked at how good it sounded!! 😮 Not a Toby Keith fan, what can I say? Hope he's better, prayers 🙏 for him and his family.
The guitarist, who you don't really see till the end, is Waddy Wachtel. He's also played with Linda Ronstadt, Stevie Nicks and Keith Richards, to name a few.
Both Carly and Steve Tyler have recent african american relatives. Saw both on Finding Your Roots. Thought that was interesting since they both have a similar look.
They weren’t amicably divorced. James Taylor has refused to speak with Carly Simon for many many years now. They share two kids. It’s really quite sad actually. Fun fact: Carly did her Ancestry research with Finding Your Roots a few years ago. Her grandmother was half black. Her father was Jewish & the famous ‘Simon’ of Simon & Schuster’. She’s had a very interesting upbringing.
When I was much younger, I listened to WOWO radio. They ran a contest in which the used very short parts of songs where the singers say Woah Woah. This was one of them as was the Carpenter's Yesterday Once More. They had WOWO sung like 35 times and to win, you had to listen all songs in the order. It was a very hard contest but thousands took up the challenge I think a 13 year old girl from Fort Wayne, Indiana finally one it after the contest ran all summer long.
This Video is from the 1979 No Nukes concert. 3 days Made history with Bruce Springsteen, Doobie Brothers, Jackson Browne, CSN, Tom Petty,…… You can Watch the whole movie and can‘t Go wrong
Carly jumped on stage at a James Taylor concert in Halsey Field House at the US Naval Academy when I was a Midshipman to sing this song. I forget which year that was, 1976 or 1977.
The pitch of someone's voice is based on how fast their vocal cords vibrate. The nasal passages and cavities have to do with the tone of the voice, not the pitch.
When Carly and James got married in 1972 fans were clamoring for a duet from these two huge rock stars. Rather than writing a new song they did a rocked-up version of this kids' song from the 60's.
At the time, Mick Jagger was the mouth to reference. This was at the No Nukes concerts. A huge event that also had a movie and album. 1979. Right after the Three Mile Island nuclear accident in Pennsylvania. Look it up as there are many great performances.
If you can find it, I would strongly recommend the No Nukes concert footage. It was performed over 3 nights at Madison Square Garden with a revolving group of performers including Bruce Springsteen and Jackson Browne. I saw it in the Theater when it came out and loved it.
Stellar performance. She does have a very large cake hole. But oh my, the voice. Another suggestion is The Spy Who Loved Me -such a great song by Carly Simon.
Hey you guys should check out James Taylor doing Steamroller Blues live. There are a few different videos but the one from right about the same time as this Mockingbird video is far and away the very best. It’s from 1978 or 1979.
Love Carli as kid in 70's she was so sexy and still is ..watched her ancestry show she is part black her great great grandmother was African American..and knew there was chance before they said
This was from a concert called "No Nukes" in NYC in Madison Square Garden in 1979. It was a benefit concert to oppose nuclear weapons. So many great musicians were there everyone from Jackson Browne to Bruce Springsteen. Carly and James were married at the time but divorced later. They had 2 children who are also singers. Ben Taylor and Sally Taylor. There was also a film made about it. Here is the link. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Nukes_(film)
There was another brother that was rather Keith's brother keith sweatley keith whitley ha he doesn't some cook miss me miss me what I'm going home How you say❤❤❤
When this song came out it was played on the radio CONSTANTLY. I got sick of it, and it's one of those songs that will stick in your head and you can't stop hearing it. And Carly's vocal range is likely 2nd alto, and she may have a range down into the tenor area. I know her range is below my natural one, so I always had trouble singing with her songs.
Anyway, you both really, REALLY need to Check out the following that is excellent that you'd most likely enjoy of the pure high energy and raw power of the following Bands along with these actual videos: Motorhead "Overkill" Live in Germany there is so much more to them then Ace Of Spades!!! ;-) You'll love it!!!! Girlschool "Demolition" & "C'mon Let's go" Both videos!!! (All female styled Motorhead!!! KILLLS!!!!) Tank "Power Of The Hunter" Krokus "Heat Strokes" Acid "Black Car" (Belgian female fronted heavy metal!!!) Saxon " Heavy Metal Thunder" , "Machine Gun", "Motorcycle Man", "wheels Of Steel" All of these are brilliant british heavy metal The Plasmatics "Black Leather Monster" ( Live on Solid Gold T.V.!!! EXtreme!!!) & "Butcher babies" Video!!! You truely MUST SEE Wendy O'Williams perform LIVE!!! Chaotic mayhem!!!! Venom " Witching Hour" the Promo Video!!! The visual adds brilliant aggression and hellish stage chaos!!! The REAL originators of the 'Black Metal' genre of the New wave of british heavy metal era of the beginning 1980's IMPORTANT to the style today.
James was a huge junkie and Carly was the heiress of the publishing house Simon and Schuster. They were married for some time. Good times. I think that was Linda Ronstadt's band backing them.
Everytime i hear this song i think of Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels in Dumb & Dumber. I frigging hate this song though . Lol. Love you guys though. Also love Carly & James Taylor. Just never dug this song whether its the original or any cover.
Carly took up singing to help with her stuttering, and...as is often the case...it worked. She is also known for being a shy introverted person. And has a lifelong, pretty bad case of STAGEFRIGHT. And you can't tell ANY of that from this performance.

I was today years old when I heard the names Inez and Charlie Fox. I just looked them up on UA-cam and was again surprised.
One of my favorite duets ever. ❤

Carly Simon had difficulties with stuttering when she was a child, but found she could sing without the stuttering happening.🙂❤
Just like Ray Stevens.
Mel Tillis is another one.
@@rondpert5167 Yeah it was Mel who I meant, don't know why I said Ray-lol, My bad.
They were married at that time. That is an awesome performance.

1960
I love Carly Simon and James Taylor together
How can someone not like this song?!!
That was the most fun and upbeat version of Mockingbird I ever heard or saw.
Have you not seen Dumb and Dumber?
I was absolutely smitten with Carly thru the '70's.
She does have a wide mouth and its very attractive. She along with Sophia Loren both wide mouthed and very pretty women
I sang this to my daughter so much she had the lyrics down by age 5. She takes one part and I take the other. Now she’s going to have a daughter in June. Hope she passes this on.

They were so fun to watch perform together, sad it didn't work out
I remember singing this song in 1st grade. I like their version more. Dumb and Dumber also performed this song on a road trip.

Rock and roll royalty. Too bad they couldn’t stay together.
If you liked this, you might try James and Carly singing "You Can Close Your Eyes" with acoustic guitar. An excellent song...
They had a #5 hit single with this duet (the studio version on Carly's 1974 album), which was a cover of a 1963 hit duet. James and Carly didn't have any other major hits as a couple.

James should probably apologize for his heroin addiction splitting them up instead of hold a grudge.
Don't forget Mick Jagger! 👄

These two used to be married. I love Carly's voice!
Many artists played there to protest Nuke Weapons. That was the first time the world saw Bruce play for a world audience.

You left let off Mick Jagger in that mouth off, who, by the way, sang back-uo on 'You're So Vein".
Damn, Carly Simons looking fine!
carly simon is my deity. i am on my knees before her.
Carly has looked that way most of her life.
Remember she wrote You probably think this song is about you...
Good choice today guys. The last four selections were terrible. Was getting worried you were losing your taste of music.
We enjoy Lex rocking out.
Don't Clark and Ellen sing this in Vacation?
They were married for several years.
I prefer Jim Carrey and Jeff daniels version from the film dumb and Dumber 😂
i want to see your reaction about clown core the band.
These two were married for years, but were amicably divorced at time of this taping
They were divorced around 1982. They were def married here.
They were married.
