Wow! I got a hero 8 at the start of summer and have been really impressed with the daytime quality, as the days get hotter and shorter I tend to start night riding! On my first night ride my setting I tried didn’t work at all after reviewing the footage! So I went to UA-cam and your video came up!! I watched the video changed my settings and went for another night ride, thanks for making this video it helped me so much creating night riding content for my channel thank you for your hard work and sharing with others!! 👊😎
Thanks, Pascal. This is just what I was hoping to learn. I haven't had great luck filming in low light, so I've written down your suggested settings, and I'll have them with me in my camera bag. I appreciate it!
@@pascalbasel thank you mate , tonight I set my gopro 8 like you and it was amazing . just a bad thing was the film was dark :( but its ok. anyway I have another question . can you please tell me how can I set my gopro for driving on day time ? kind regards xxx 4K - iso 100 - 800 30 or 60 frame ? 1/48 ?
Pretty good. For Stabilization in low light you need a fast shutter. It seems counter intuitive, but use 60fps and EV -2. Or you can use other frame rates, but the shutter needs to be 1/120 or faster (1/240 works best).
make sure that the dark parts are totally black when color grading/adding contrast. Also this is only the best you can get out of this specific camera. Of course, the results will look better with cameras that have bigger sensors.
Hi Pascal, what are you preferred audio settings on the go pro hero 8? The raw audio and wind noise reductions. Any thoughts on this.....until the media mod become available and we can have proper audio out of it....
Hi Ben, I only use stereo audio. No wind reduction or raw. Also the media mod doesn’t really do much as it’s still sensitive to wind and the internal mic is good enough.
Pascal Basel thank you for the quick reply. I plan on using the media pod to plug in a Lav mic as it has an input on the back of it. I agree, the media mod itself isn’t that great - but it is better than buying the audio ‘dongle’ that go pro make. Keep up the good work - I enjoy your tutorials.
I have EOS-R as my A cam, now looking for a good B & C cam for a podcast. The set will be artificially lit with LED projectors. Instead of purchasing 1000$ camcorders (unlimited recording), I'm thinking how bad can it be to use GoPros (HERO9). I hope that with proper lighting, the image should look mint & professional.
Please please please can you do one at night time with you shining a torch I do a lot of hunting and I want to know what quality I will get from recording my dog on a lamp
great video. i currently have a gopro 7 white, first action camera that i use for family vacation, but it does very bad in low light. do you think the 8black is better? do you recommend a different camera? thanks!
Thanks Israel, I recently published a low light video of the Hero8. Just scroll through my videos. It should be very similar on the 7. However, for low light you should get a proper camera, not a GoPro. Fuji, Nikon, Canon, Sony...

Same here, i was gifted a hero 8, and also this video helping too, I'm going to sub to Pascal Basel
Good job bro! Gonna be trying this out soon!

Sure, same settings.

1/48 ?
Finally! This is best setting what can i find for me ! Thanks
Used these settings on my fpv and there really good... Thanks so much
I was wondering why it looks better in low lighting through the screen than it does exported?
very helpfull bro, i have been waiting for this video for gopro 8. thanks a lot dude, success for your content 👍
Thanks Muhammad, you too.
great stuff Pascal im here to stay!
Thanks, exactly what I was looking for.
Pascal, I have a hero 7 ,anyway I can't believe that you can get this quality in the dark, i'll try your method and see
If you use the hyper smooth u are fuck no matter what settings you used in low light conditions.
Fantastic!! Thank you Pascal!!
I would like to ask, I tried to use gopro8 to shoot a circle of the park in 4k at night, the effect is poor, is it iso problem?
Love your video man
Thanks Cambo 👍🏻
thanks for the tips bud! save my fishing low light footage!
Great video! I have my Hero 8 coming next week
Thanks, hope you get good shots.
How are your results with GoPro cameras under low light conditions so far?
Pretty good. For Stabilization in low light you need a fast shutter. It seems counter intuitive, but use 60fps and EV -2. Or you can use other frame rates, but the shutter needs to be 1/120 or faster (1/240 works best).
Yeah, in my case already shutter to 60 looked too dark. So it really depends a bit how much light you get. Thanks for sharing your observations 👍🏻
@@JudoSurfer Like Isteady pro 2 or G6 better?
Will be testing out for a Zion night race tomorrow 👌
How about the EV?
ধন্যবাদ ভাই।। thanks bro।।
love u vai ❤️❤️
You can turn the stabilization from hyper smooth boost down to regular hyper smooth and it should help if not fix the problem.
Thanks, that could help a bit.
Killed it glad I stumbled upon your channel . Liked and subscribed .
Thanks Levi, welcome to my channel 👍🏻
amazing thank you helped me a lot pascal!
Please give me a nice setting for taking photos. thanks
ISO 100, low shutter speed, and use a tripod.
Love from 🇧🇩
d'you have any gimbal recommendation for gopro hero 8?
No, the internal stabilization is good enough. Since Hero 7 GoPros don’t need gimbals anymore.
Agreed. No need for a gimbal. Just anything to get your hands off of the camera it’s self.
How to edit the vdo ? bcs the original footage isn"t usable
nice vid..can i take ur opinion please..I do guitar vid in low light indoors...will this be a good camera?cheers
I won’t recommend you a GoPro for that. Get a mirrorless camera with microphone input. A used G85 for example is very cheap and gives great quality.
I used these settings but the footage still looks dark and grainy. I just got Premier Elements 2021. How do I make it look all crisp?
make sure that the dark parts are totally black when color grading/adding contrast. Also this is only the best you can get out of this specific camera. Of course, the results will look better with cameras that have bigger sensors.
Will these settings work for recording stars at night?
No, that only works when shooting photos with much lower shutter speeds.
that's dope, so this settings also apply for the GP7B right ?
Yes
Very good tutorial thanks, I have been using these settings except 1080/25 and the unedited on bike footage is excellent.
Thx a lot, i will try out the setting for the low light on my gopro hero 8
Thanks for the settings! Will try this
Thanks will try this
hi. great explanation. one poimt i domt umderstand though. Isnt a higher ISO generally recommended for low light conditions?
The further away you are from native ISO, the more grain you get, thus worse quality.
Awesome video
Thank you for relpy 👍. Can you tell me music video. camera
Canon C300
Thanks 🌸😊💜
Awesome video! Thanks!!!
Thank you Korky 👍🏻
i dont have the lowlight setting why ????

Which one is best GoPro 8 or GoPro max? And why?
It’s two different cameras. Actioncam vs 360cam. So there is no better one. It depends what you want to do with it.
@@pascalbasel what will be your favorite?
Hero 8
@@pascalbasel thanks brother

Time is 2.35minutes.... Why does the mast look crooked,???
Because it's wide angle and the mast is at the outer part of the frame.
Good tips!
thank you
You’re welcome
Good for Musician video shoot??
#vilhoukezo
Not really, better to have a proper camera for that.
technically You are Very Good
Uhh wolfenstien anyone😳
I think GoPro not suitable for Night video and I phone 12 is the best one for night video
For night best is a proper full frame or app-c camera. GoPro and iPhone is not made for it.
@@pascalbasel I used the GoPro 8 for night video but not clear not video🥺
naice
Meh. Osmo pocket has better low light
And now?
99.99% of people around the world say the hero 8 is like shooting on a gimbal, this video says it's shaky... meh
Ehm no? I just said it’s shaky in low light as the stabilization needs a higher shutter speed.
@@pascalbasel Just curious, would turning off hypersmooth & instead using reelsteady software post edit yield better results?
