    I just got back from Saigon where I filmed my riding around the city from 5am to 1am. The day time stuff looked good but the night time stuff was shaking and basically unwatchable. Thanks for the share, I'll check them out. I'm heading back to Saigon in January for Tet and want to do a lot of video on riding in the delicious chaos that is Saigon traffic. Regards from West Aus!

    Gopro do a decent job considering how small the sensor is. Definitely best to use the manual settings. My preference is darker low iso not just because of noise but also better dynamic range which adds more cinematic vibe.

    I liked the look of the 4k@30fps 1/60 frame rate, I think the exposure was better and there was less blur around the lights even with the 1600k max iso

    Aloha~ i am still trying to figure out what would be best setting for my gp9 and gp10 low light night shootings like night time parades or night/early morning drive video scenes ...so far i have tested/ tried many different settings but i guess low light/night scenes are not for gopros.the outcome is alwsy Too Dark or Too Noisy if its bright...i still do not know what is best setting yet?... i have decided not to spend anymore money with gopros i am searching other device to replace my GPS 9 and 10. sad

    It would be great if you could make 'if this then that' choices to pick your style and have the firmware or app auto adjust for you. If I go on a long ride I just want to hit record and not worry if it's sunny or cloudy or getting dark.

      Auto mode is the closest thing to exactly that. You just don’t have complete control

    Question on uploading to UA-cam! I have recently got a Hero 7 which I edited in iMovie. The finished videos always look crisp in iMovie but very grainy/blurry once uploaded whether in 4k, 2.7 or 1440 & a variety of different settings. How do you get such a clear uploaded video? It's driving me mad!!!!

    "Hypersmooth doesn't work 100%" - what do you recommend then, to turn it completely off? Or to keep it on or boosted? Did you stabilize this footage later in post-production?

      keep it on but note that it might not perform at its best - and maybe stabilise again it in post.

      I tried all these settings but my shootings are always jerky. I think he stabilised his footage in post production.

    I've ill health at night trying to tape it. Can it tape in the dark? I could do it in light but pain will be so bad ill go to the hospital. (Won't stop)

    Hii.. I have gopro hero 7 black ..
    4k 24fps, 1/48 and iso min 100 - max 800.
    In protune on and in above settings... fps and and shutter won't change... but my question is... does ISO changes according to the lighting conditions....??
    Like if there's too dark then iso automatically bumps up to 800 and in good light does it automatically comes down to 100.. is it how it works...??

      There’s absolutely no need to use an ND filter at night. The sensor is struggling enough as is with the lack of light entering, an ND filter will make it much worse.

    Came back to this with a question: So no ND Filter on low light footage and still you can film with manual shutter speed (being double the fps) and any oncoming traffic or tunnel lights won't f**k up the footage?

      adding an ND will just darken your image too much. oncoming traffic will glare but not that much. not enough to justify the ND

      If you shoot in low light, there's no reason to use a ND filter. The main purpose of a ND filter is to reduce the amount of light going into the sensor.

    @3:56 Bright shot with more noise. Top priority is that something has to show up in the video other than blackness and the occasional oncoming headlights. Noise has to take a back seat. A noiseless videos is pointless if you can't see anything.

    Has anyone tried recording at low light at 240fps 1/240 (for better stabilization), and then converting the video to 24fps 1/24 using frame blending (to reduce noise)?

    I'm having trouble with my museum vlogging with the GoPro 11 when the room doesn't have windows. Can I get a better/less grainy shot if i restrict my Gopro 11 to 1080? Here's an example of the grainy/jittery video from ua-cam.com/video/byvaAs7-X7Y/v-deo.html Help!

    If you use 1/60 shutter, why don't you use 60fps already?

      Because then I’d have to use 1/120 shutter and will result in a darker image

      @@MotoFeelz In fact, you can use 60fps 1/60. The 180 rule does not apply to electronic shutter. Because there is no rotating mechanism on modern devices anymore. Therefore, the shutter only determines how much light per frame the sensor will receive. 30fps 1/60 - 60fps 1/60 has the same motion blur. PaulJoy has a video on this subject, you can check it out if you want.

    Dude, Mount Media recommends ISO Max 400, not 1600 for low light settings.

    Your examples of low light situations don't seem very low light. Those are brightly lit roads. I'm riding on back streets at night where the only light is my bicycle's headlight and the occasional street light.
    Got any footage like that that doesn't look like you riding in pitch black darkness?
