TOPIC OF THIS VIDEO:
In this video I am going to show you the best settings on the GoPro Hero 8 Black for travel videos and vlogs, including some battery life tips:
Vlogs:
Set your camera to 4K, 30 FPS, Linear and set your Protune settings up, like I show you in the video. This is very important because with those additional settings you can not only improve the image quality on the GoPro Hero 8 Black for your cinematic travel videos and vlogs, but you also can change between different color profiles in case you want your vlogs or travel videos to look more cinematic.
Travel Videos:
Depending of your cinematic travel video shots you need different settings with different frame rates and resolutions, I show you my top 3 settings on the GoPro Hero 8 Black for cinematic travel videos. The Protune settings are the exact same ones for cinematic GoPro Hero 8 travel videos as they are for vlogs.
Battery Life:
I also give you 3 quick tips how you can save a little bit of battery life on your GoPro Hero 8 Black. Just follow the set up in the video and you are done.

Thank you! Very helpful just bought the Hero 8 and will be using it for my first trip in 2020 to Las Vegas in January. Will be practicing here around my hometown tomorrow !
Awesome, have fun!
I've watched different recommendations from different bloggers as for the "best settings" but only on your channel I see really good quality of videos made with GP8.
Thanks for this very helpful tips. Just bought my gopro hero 8 and still on the process of learning

Super helpful. Thanks
Thank you 💗
Thank you for this informative video!

Man, this is so complicated. You teach well. I just didn't realize how much work cinematography was. FPS, linear, wide, white balance. I've gone cross eyed. haha. Getting my GoPro soon, and I'll be going through all your videos. I'm trying to learn as much in 5 months as possible. Heading to Japan in May and I'd love to make a short cinematic video of the trip.
Thank you!
Yeah it's not that quite easy. Have fun on your trip :)
Thanks 🙏
Thanks for great sharing!
You're welcome :)
Thank you this video. you truly are a gem man.
No problem :)
Just getting started with my gP8. I'm excited.
Have fun!
@@JanKlaeui thanks!
Awesome! Very well explained and super new user friendly. I am having troubles filming my Motocross races because at the transitions from shaded places and wide open the image still dark for couple seconds. I'll check the default setting in the activity mode and go a notch up with the ISO. Once again, thank you. Subscribed.
No problem Jose :)
Thank you
I’ve been trying to create my pueblo custom but it always doesn’t look good.
Yours is the best manh

Awesome!
Subscribed! You’re way too cool!
Thanks Nancy:)
I have got valuable tips from your video..!!!
Nice!
Another tip to help battery life last longer, I have mine set to where the screen turns off after a minute while recording. Most of the time I’m using my chest mount so I don’t need to see the screen
Can you guys film in 4K, 60 FPS and a linear field of view? Wondering if that issue mentioned in the video happens only on my camera 🤔
04.12: With the new update it works!
Its now fixed with the newest update if im not mistaken
Mine will do it in 4K, 60, linear
I've been a bit hesitant to shoot in 4K because my computer is super old and slow. Going to experiment with it a bit anyway. Thanks for the settings. Good stuff.
You're welcome:)
Jey Jan, enjoyed your video, would u happen to know how when recording, and you click the MODE button to add a Highlight, when i get to my computer, I just want the picture or Highlight I took, and not the whole clip, just as a still picture, how would I be able to change that on my GoPro 8
Enjoyed your video very informative. I was wondering what settings should I use for snapshots off movies so I can get the best quality?
Thanks man! I just use the screenshot of the mac and that's it :)
Thank sooooo much
No problem :)
Good vodeo, good information, good man.
Thank you:)
thank you man
No problem :)
Nice tips, have a yi + so I'll try your tips
Most of them will work for that camera too:)
Good info bro
Thank you ☺️
You're amazing dude 🤘💪💪💪💪
Thank you!
Honestly his videos never fail to provide the best info in the shortest amount of time
@@JanKlaeui have you had any freezing issues with your Hero8? great content like always.
Thank you boss
🤙🏽
Thanks for the video. I've just discovered your channel today and I can see you made great efforts to explain us the video settings. Well done! Just a quick one, you might already explained this before. How can you reduce the video size (for storage) by keeping the quality top notch?
Thanks man! I never reduce my file sizes as I want to keep the best quality possible, so I can't help you here...
@@JanKlaeui no worries. Thanks for your quick response. keep it up!
Good
Thank you:)
Thank you!
No problem Anton!
Any tips for snorkeling/scuba diving?
Thanks
You're welcome:)
thanks for the tips !! do you know whether using proton on will help if editing the videos on iMovies ?
You just get in general better image quality if you turn protune on, no matter which editing program you use :)
tnx for your guidelines coz iwould like ti buy gopro
No problem :)
Great video 👍 I like to turn sharpness down to low, it's still pretty sharp and the weird artefacts (especially in 1080) disappear. Beside that I use pretty much the same settings you recommend. I have a Story quick set with 1080/60 that I use vertical.
Thanks man!
Do you mean you use this setup for Instagram Story?
I’m looking for a setup for Story. Do you limit your shootage to 15 or 30 sec?
@@adriengoux yes, for Instagram story.
I don't limit my recordings, because I use the Quick app to edit the footage.
Emanuél Sánchez thanks! Could you share your account? I’m curious to have a look at it 🙂
We are filming a music video soon. All of your videos are becoming like a bible for us ❤️
Great video, I have a question though. How do you export the videos and what editing software do you use in order to keep the quality good? Thanks.
I use Premiere Pro and in my "Travel Video from Scratch" tutorial I show all export settings :)
yahooooo ...awesome!
Thanks man!
@@JanKlaeui anytime ❤
great tutorial should try manually setting the shutter speed to avoid any issues with blurry footage.
Thanks Toby:)
Are there recommendations as for settings for night shooting?!
Got the 8 but my videos aren’t good, was walking at forest holding using the chest mount and the video wasn’t good after, even using 4K 60 . Do you think it still requiring a gimbal?
Great Video.. Thank you =)
I have one Question: What Settings are the best for Firework at night? ISO 100/100 or 100/200?
That really depends what kind of video you shoot. If you use long shutter then 100/100 :)
ios max better set hight than 400,or 800,see my Chanel there are some test sample。
Ich warte immer noch auf meinen H8. Digitec hat Lieferverzug. 🤳👍😂. Thanks for sharing.
Das war anzunehmen :)
Just a question. I'm 66 and just got a GoPro 8, I'm not up to adjusting to all the settings yet , so when should I use Active and Cinematic. Thank you
Hi what software do you use to edit your GoPro videos?
Hello. My gopro 8 has a vertical lines on back screen. Do you know how to fix it? Thank you in advance
Such a great video.. huge fan. I’m very new to GoPro. What settings would you use for superview? Do you ever use superview at all?
Thank you! And 4K 30 for superview :)
@@JanKlaeui You're the best, thanks for letting me know - really good of you to keep up with comments from a video from months ago. Thanks man! Keep up the good work
What are your settings for hero 7?
❤❤
What camera do you use for your studio shooting?is it gopro as well?
🙏🙏🙏🙏

🤗
hey buddy! thank you so much your useful video!
i have gopro8 and you know that gopro has video Shaking when night time or low light
but i dont want gimbal :(
do you have tips? or how to setting when night time or low night?
thanks~ i already subscribe channel :)
Activate boost :)
Can you make video for Go Pro Hero 8 accessories.
I can!
Can you save settings on the hero 7 or is this only available on the 8?
Only on the 8:)
i may have missed it or Haven't watched in your later vids yet but can i ask do you use hevc or h.264+hevc for video compression?
thank you very much. i came to your contents by searching for tutorials as this is my first and may be only action cam, and yours are the most on point easiest to understand i watched.
I use the h.264 for exporting :)
@@JanKlaeui thank you very much! so much to learn
I wish you could have mentioned about using your settings with a MacBook Pro 2015 because the footage I filmed yesterday using your settings is terrible to edit in Premiere Pro. The laptop isn't fast enough to upload 4K footage. Also some of my videos wouldn't even upload and just said it wasn't compatible with QuickTime :(
Yeah you need a fast laptop to edit with those settings..
As a user of a gopro 8, what you think about lens without defense? Is it usable as action gopro?
I don't know that
You skipped how to get to the resalution to set it i'm completely new to GoPro so looking for help with setting for walking vlog setting
Just click on the button where you see the resolution :)
Hi Jan Klaeui, i just have a question about the 1080p / 240 fps. i just recently bought this camera but everytime i try to record at 1080p / 240fps and play it back on my computer, it just gives me a black screen but i can hear the audio. i'm wondering if i got a defective camera or if my settings are wrong? would you happen to know what might be the problem? Any of your thoughts to my problem here would greatly be appreciated! btw, you always have great tutorial videos! i watch your videos all the time and use some of the tips from your videos. thanks for sharing!
Can you watch your video on your GoPro directly? If so, then probably your computer doesn't support 240FPS
Yes i can watch it directly from the camera. it must be my computer then. What type of computer or system would you recommend so it can support the 1080/240 fps? Thanks!
A macbook which supports those frame rates, for example the 2019 Pro :)
Thanks a lot!
Hey Jan, thank you for the great tipps.
One question about the video settings: does the Hero 8 shoot in 4k and 60fps in linear mode? Because you said it doesn't but it should according to the manual - so now I'm confused 😳
Tobias Schubert I just discovered that if u wanna shoot 4k60 in linear, u will need to disable the hyper smooth before selecting linear an 4k60. Hyper smooth is not supported under this combination, sad
@@yuchenyu8857 well that sucks 😔
Good to know :)
Gopro wants to fix that in the future
community.gopro.com/t5/en/HERO8-Black-HyperSmooth-2-0/ta-p/396691
I should’ve re-watched this before I went to Hawaii.
😃
Hi GoPro is bad for low light outdoors, any night scene etc what do I do about that?
Hi is it possible to edit clips in the GoPro Movie Maker App filmed with Protune?
I think so but I have never uses this app :)
Wow been looking for some help,im a complete novice on any filming, cameras etc,but im taking my daughter to Australia to back pack up the the east cost and knock about up the great barrier reef,so settled with the go pro 8,lots of other videos out there but yours was quick and to the point and no messing around, gonna subscribe sit down make a cup of tea and watch all your other content and hopefully come back from oz with some amazing videos photos etc, that my daughter can cherish forever, peace out! Xx
Thank you very much🤙🏽
@@JanKlaeui always a pleasure never a chore! Xx
So you're apart of the reason our great barrier reef is dying off
@@Intenslfled not to sure what your on about great mate,im sure my brief visit won't have any impact on the reef,i certainly wont be interfering with anything, always clean up take my rubbish away i live by the sea and always join the volunteers groups who go down to clean up the beachs,so no im not the reason, anyway i couldn't really give two monkeys what you think its on my bucket list and i want to share that moment with my daughter,so up yours and have a nice day! Xx
@@explosiverex5023 do some research on what's happening to the reef and then come back to me with your closed minded, ignorant comment.
I was surprised to discover that the default Cinematic profile on the HERO8 has bit rate set to 'Low'. I didn't discover this until I'd spent an entire day taking video in that mode at a National Park. :-/ Maybe if I'd seen your video beforehand! :P
Yeah that's normal it is also set like that...
👍👍
I just recorded footage on my go pro 8 and I can’t explain it but I get flickering when there is lights in my image, how do I stop this? Is my go pro broke
No, you have to adjust your shutter speed automatically. Just try out a few settings until the flickering is gone :)
Change the format from ntsc to pal
Hey Jan! What setting would you recommend for rollercoaster, extreme waterslide POV videos?
4K SuperView :)
