I believe the Friesians are truly the most beautiful and sweet natured horses. We should all pray for Yvonne at Follow the Herd. We can't lose her channel!!
Yes!! She has spread the love of Friesians far and wide!
I love Yvonne Horjus and her Follow the Herd UA-cam Channel. 👑🐴⭐️🐎💙💃🏻
I too am a follower of Yvonne Horjus where I first learned of the floating on air gait of the Friesian! Magnificent animals and their nature is top of the mountain of manners and beauty!!! Loved this video! Thanks Alyssa of Discover the Horse and Yvonne of Follow the Herd - you’re both so fortunate and intelligent and caring!! ❤️🐴🎠
Two bad their not as loved in horse world😭
What a dream ❤
Friesians honestly have everything you could want in a horse: power, style and intelligence combined with a friendly personality and gentle manners. And they look absolutely gorgeous.
Being Dutch , I feel proud of this astonishing breed.
As you should❤️
Same, im born and raised in Friesland and don't have any 'patriotism' in me but its so cool to see how many people love our horses
🇳🇱🌬️💞
@@vogelvrouw whats wrong of being proud of youre dutch roots?
me too!!! 🥰🥰🥰
Amazing you were invited by Sabien, she is one of the jury at the Friesian inspections in Friesland. As moderator for Friesian Horses it's a delight to see you in Friesland where the Friesian originally coming from. I hope you had the most wonderful stay in our little country corner of the planet. Welcome to the Netherlands or Holland. 🇳🇱🌬️💞
Holtlant.
It was a visit I will always cherish and can't wait to return to the Netherlands again in the future!
@@DiscoverTheHorse You're welcome, love your video's.👋😀
Hé Linda - leuk jou ook hier te zien (niet verbazend natuurlijk☺). Ik heb erg genoten van deze video en vond het prachtig te zien hoe Alyssa werd 'ingepakt' door de prachtige Friese paarden! Kippenvel!!!
@@LeidolfLady Ja we komen elkaar overal tegen, the Herd is everywhere.👍😃👍
I absolutely love this breed. And as such am a follower of Yvonne and her Friesan Horses.
Thank you for making this breed into one of your longer videos! :D 🥰
What is Yvonne’s channel? I love horses but I love watching these beauties.

@blossomslife1200 I dont know if you ever found it but its the Friesian Horses channel ❤
I enjoy following Yvonne with Friesian Horse's. The stable has so many high level mares and successful breeding.
Same here!
@@moonwatcher4047 Me too! I love the Friesian Horses channel.
Yes!
Love Yvonne's UA-cam channel, have been watching it for quite some time. She is the horse whisperer for sure (Bronwyn N.Z. 🇳🇿🖤🇳🇿🖤)
Definitely my favourite. It was so upsetting to learn of Yvonne’s accident. I’m so glad that she’s getting better.
I love Friesians and tune in when g stal is on with Yvonne. She had a fall, but is doing much better.
The Friesian horses are so beautiful, perfect and kind, my eyes started leaking just watching him move!
There was no leaking for me, I was crying watching this video. My little JackChi was worried something was wrong, but they were all tears of joy! Have loved this breed since seeing "Ladyhawke" years ago.
Me too!!
You had the privileged to see a few super stallions, because there are over all those years only a few more than 500 aprouved stallions.
And the breeders are always looking for the best sire for their mares, to make their breed better and better.
To buy a fillie from 2 yo and have a model, is a realy fairy tale, and one of a million.👍💞
oh, his extended trot, magical, beautiful almost spiritual! 💙💙
That is the natural trot of the Friesian horse, it not learned or trained, they are born with it.
Le frison la plus belle race au monde
I’m in love with the breed since I started following Yvonne and the herd at Stal G on youtube.
Me too.
Just love the way the seem to float when the move
I'm Dutch and so proud of the frisian breed. They are willing, gentle, kind, great movers, smart, sensitive in a positive way and they are beautiful in every single way. An amazing video you have made of this breed. Thank you! ♡
Thanks for watching! 💜
Other characteristics are the high level knees in trott. And their long neck give easely problems with the vertical. Only with much training it comes well. And they are so sweet. Even children can ride them.👍💞
Wow, what a bunch of gorgeous horses in one video!!!
Also, I totally appreciate how gentle you let the stallion chew out his bit at the end. To many people just let it fall and it hurts the horses teeth.
The expression on your face through the entire video is priceless. 😊
Now I am not a horse person, I even fear them. Tried to get over that by riding myself. Not a succes. But I love learning new facts on animals and caring for them in the right way. I had no idea chewing out a bit was even an option. So thank you for this gem of information. This is just a piece of info you don't find in books.
@@ari-ettaOh thank you for your kind words, it is really sweet of you to say that! ❤
Some people don't realize that the bit, which obviously is made out of some kind of metal most of the times, can really hurt the horses front teeth from the back side when the rider does not let go of it slowly.
It just slams against them chompers. Outch.
And stallions and geldings also have some small pointy teeth directly below the bit, called stallion teeth (some call them canines, which is not exactly what they are biologically). Those are even more prone to get hurt by a bit that's falling out of the mouth without beeing slowed down by either the horse chewing it out or the rider holding it back/letting it come out slowly.
I am glad you found that piece of information helpful or at least interesting. 😅
@@ari-ettaMaybe some day you'll find a way to overcome you fear of these gentle giants, fingers crossed for you! 🙏
Either way, there is a channel here on YT, by the name of "Friesian Horses", that is watched and enjoyed by lots of non-horsey people, lovely community from around the world, you might enjoy their content as well. 😊
All the best.
I've been in love with this breed since watching "Follow the Herd" on UA-cam. Your face reflected my love and awe and Joy of watching this beautiful horse breed. Thank you for this video, and yes, I'm sure you you probably both do have the same beautiful hair problems ❣️
Hello 👋 how are you doing?
Beautiful video of some beautiful horses. Sabien was the best guide! 👍❤
🙏🏻🙏🏻
ah.. this is the one (breed) i've been wanting, waiting, and hoping for: it did not disappoint. it also showed what a truly fine rider you are...
Awww, thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!
I have two Friesian horses, one was imported from the Netherlands. They are an absolute incredible breed and my dream come true, twice.
I was lucky enough to ride a Freisian about 20 years ago in South Africa, in the flower fields near Cape Town. It was mind blowing. I totally fell in love with this horse -- so willing and so sweet and so gorgeous. I've been in love with the breed ever since. I was thrilled to see this video which showcased just how gorgeous they are. I also loved the carriage, like something out of a fairy tale! You put the horse together with the carriage and you have magic!
Hello how’re you doing?
Omw that sound like a dream! How did it come about? I would love to look into it next time I go through to Cape Town.
I'm afraid I don't know the details anymore. Our driver arranged it. It was glorious!@@RainbowRiver
Goedzo! I've been following the Friesian Horses UA-cam channel for a couple of years and have been mesmerized by these animals. I love seeing the pregnant mamas, the births, and the foals growing. And seeing members of the herd go from muddy field to show ring. Traveling to Friesland is definitely on my bucket list!
I own a 22 year old Friesian mare who I adore, and this video made me realize how truly lucky I am! They are the most beautiful horses!
I have a 11 year old friesian mare and I absolutely love her as well. They are truly amazing
I’ve never ridden one but I follow Friesian Horses on UA-cam and just love them. They are so majestic and well trained. I’ve heard they are very comfortable to ride. Congratulations on checking this dream goal off the list :)
Hello how’re you doing?
What an amazing animal the stallion. So beautiful. You look so good riding him. He looks very powerful and majestic. Just love him.
A friend of mine had a Friesian boy and I fell in love with the breed. Absolutely stunning, and such lovely personalities ... he would let himself into the kitchen and help himself to the bread-box.
One word. Beautiful
Yes I have met a Fresian. You are so right, they can connect with you on a soulful level. I met a 2-yr old colt and I named him "Frizz" eventhough I asked him his name - he transmitted "My name is Thor." When I met his handler 2 weeks after, his handler confirmed his name - "Thor." But he answers to "Frizz" when he sees our car pulling up - he runs to the front and waits for us. When we call "Frizz" he would follow. He is the ultimate love of my life. He comforted me when I lost my mom to COVID. Frizz nudged me a few times, and he clowned to make me smile. I miss him. He left to train for his dressage in the eastcoast.
I used to ride a friesian gelding for a while and he absolutely sold me on the breed, obviously they're gorgeous but that was also one of the sweetest horses I've met, very eager to work and getting along with other horses and people easily
The movie, storybook, fairytale horses are tall majestic Friesians. Just magical.
Friesians are truly fairytale horses. So gorgeous and their athletic abilities are beautiful and amazingly powerful. And sweetheart.
I went to my first horse show in Madison, Wisconsin in the 90’s….
I saw Flurry a Friesian stallion prancing in a fenced in space. I couldn’t take my eyes off of him. I will never forget that moment of discovering the Friesian!❤
Freisians have such a beautiful gate. And they look so regal and majestic. Absolutely love this breed.
Oh, I can’t believe it: my beloved favorite breed. They are the kindest horses ever! Thank you so much for this beautiful video.
Love this breed, beautiful in trot, canter, gallop. They just look stunning I can image knights being carried into battle on these noble steeds.
I had a Frisian myself but had to sell it unfortunately.
I know what you mean by saying falling in love with the breed, it happened to me 50 years ago. And still am
Wauwh finaly the Friesian what a great video
Around 1980, when I was a young teen, my riding school in Holland took a bunch of us with ponies to a horse show for an exhibition. The ponies were stabled right next to about a dozen Friesians. It was my first encounter with the breed and I was enchanted by them and I have always remembered them. They were so huge and so nice to be around. Most of them were draft horses and they were even stockier than the handful of riding horses they had. At the time they explained that the slightly lighter horses were more comfortable to ride. Now, when I see Friesians they all look more like the "riding" horses I was introduced to. Loved your video
I bought a double registered Friesian for my wife a couple of monrths ago. She had two paint horses for 23 and 24 years respectively. They both passed away within 3 months of each other this year. Rockhart FOM was (is) an early Christmas gift to help her through the grief of losing her paints. He's a beautiful 16.3 gelding and he's already made a huge difference for her. The only unfortunate thing is that though he's won a number of shows and was the United States All Breeds Level 2 Dressage Champion in 2021, she's not a professional rider so he'll probably spend the rest of his days being a big pet and being ridden with a western saddle through the countryside. I love this breed. They're powerful yet gentle animals. I think she loves him more than she loves me, but that's ok. LOL
👑🐴⭐️🐎 I love the majestic beauty of the Friesian Horses. I follow Yvonne and her friends at Stal G.💃🏻💙
Magic horses simply beautiful on my wish list
I’ve never ridden a Frisian but there were two at one of the barns my mom used to board her horse at. I always loved petting them. They were so huge and pretty! ❤️
My daughter who was 11 at the time rode a Friesian stallion for her birthday! He was impeccable and sweet and definitely ignited her love of the breed!
Proud of the horses we have here
I had such an amazing opportunity to ride two Friesians daily as an exercise rider the summer before my freshman year of college.
Their canter would stop time.
At the end of the summer, the owners took me to their annual trip to Acadia National Park with the horses and we rode and drove the historic carriage trails. We stayed for several days. It was magical and I'll never forget it (Unfortunately, I made the terrible mistake of asking for money the following summer, and that put a stop to that.)
Friesians are amazing. I felt misty just watching this episode. I do hope to own one one day. Thank you.
i have ridden friesians pretty much all my life, growing up in the stables and later training and working with them every day. you will never encounter a more intelligent, gentle, good natured and indeed majestic breed. they are the rolls royces among horses. i am truly proud and blessed to live among these true gifts from God.
Wow a Truly Beutifull Horse,
I have a Friesian mare. She’s amazing! They’re very special. Thanks for this video. ❤
💜Thanks for watching!
My aunt has a Friesian. And to ride him feels so different than riding other horses. Other horses walking is just feeling so stiff compared to his walk
That's what's known as the Friesian grin!
Wonderful and excellent video. Being from Friesland I really enjoyed it, thank you.
Beautiful horses.
In the mid 1990's, I was a member of the Seattle Knights. I took horseback riding lessons by way of them, and I had the pleasure and honor of getting to ride a couple Friesians on a regular basis, among a number of other breeds. Friesians are definitely my favorite! (Although I love them all!) They're just so beautiful! Their gaits are super smooth, and their personalities so sweet. I even got to ride a couple of them for a jousting workshop I participated in -- it was great! Bit of a challenge to photograph an all-black horse... I, too, am hooked on Yvonne's Frisian Follow the Herd UA-cam Channel, can't live without it. It's so relaxing. Oh, a Friesian Quadrille is an absolute must-see. There's one on UA-cam -- incredible! There you see 16 teams of two Friesians all pulling two-wheeled carts in complex formations. Check it out! Thank you so much for showing us a ride on a stunning stallion!
They are realy beautiful with their elegant trot and long manes. But you made a mistake: less then 100. There are over all those years in that closed studbook a few more then 500 aprouved stallions, you eere riding martzen 521, so he is number 521 in the studbook.
I follow "friesian horses" and i'm recommanding you to look the most emotional video on this channel "love at first sight". You will love it !!!!
In that stable they have many star mares and even a few crown mares. Maybe geertje will become model. She became crown at 3,5 years.
The owner of that stable G (from goengamieden) Rein sold one stallion to the king, and he hopes, and we all, that he will have one day a model mare(the best) and an aprouved stallion. But the inspections are very serious and hard.
They say that riding a friesian is riding another animal, totaly diferent from other breeds.
There they are going many times in the car with one or two horses. And even a little neighbor boy ride with them. I saw you already on many horsebreeds. Nice videos, but this one i love very much, because they are friesians. Please take a look to that special video. About more than 11M views i think. And the channel is over the whole world with more than 320K.
So it has to be special. 👍💞
Goedzo, Johannes... Friesian advocate!
👍🐎🌷
Lisa 🇦🇺🐨
Yes its true there are more than 500 approved stallions, but that is in the last 150 years the Studbook have existed. Most are dead long ago.
Right now in 2022 there is around 100 approved stalions alive in the world, and most of them are in NL. 25 are in the US (most of those are breed in NL)
@@rikkest9872 Then, with only 100 Apprived Stallions, at present, it MUST be time for " new blood" before the Friesians become in bred, once more.... Terrifying 🤔 thought!
Lisa 🇦🇺🐨😨👑🐎🌷( approved, sorry .)
@@lisajoyaslanis Well the Studbook have decided that approving 4-5 stallions every year, is the best way to improve the breed.
New blood is not allowed in a closed Studbook, and with carefull breeding (like they do at Stall G) every year the Friesian Horse becomes less inbreed, even without including new blood from other breeds.
BTW Yvonne made a great video about how she chose stalions for the mares at Stall G
@@rikkest9872 NO! Not " new blood from other breeds...!!"
New blood, as in a few extra Friesian Stallions!
It would not do, to mix the breeds... Defeating the whole Intention!!!
Lisa 🇦🇺🐨😨😒😤😠😨
I always love the faces when people are with horses and talk about.
Wow wow wow! Stunning! ❤️
If I would ever be able to buy and ride and take good care of a horse, it could only be a Friesian. I love these horses❣
Watch also "Friesian Horses - Follow the herd".
Hello 👋 how are you doing?
Eise is realy flooting in his trott, amazing😘💞👍
Friesians from Friesland, NL. They are so sweet and cute and seem very curious and friendly to humans (even the little ones, the foals aren't too afraid). Like they can understand the love humans share with them and they also show that back in their own unique way! Lovely video! Thanks so much!
Friesian Horses are my favorite breed 🐴❤!
They are Gentle Giants !
What a beautiful video 😍!
Thanks Birgit, so glad you enjoyed it!
My cousins owned Friesians, they competed in carriage driving etc. they were spectacular!,
OMG that horse is stunning!
Exquisite animals! My favorite breed for sheer beauty and elegance. 💗
It's funny that you would say that about your hair and the Friesian horses. I was watching that scene at the end and thinking ...Wow they both have gorgeous hair!
😁 Hehe, thank you!
Thank you for another beautiful video. I really enjoy your channel. Your hair matches with their manes!
Everything about this video is perfect! You met some of the best friesians and studs but also to see what we friesian owners call the "friesian grin" was so heartwarming. They truly capture your hearts. Best breed in the world
I used to teach lessons at a barn years ago with my personal Friesian and even though he was 17hh he had an absolute teddy bear personality and I very often used him to teach first time riders from little kids up to adults. He did however have a bad habit of unlocking all of the stall doors and letting the other horses out to pasture 🤣
For anyone wanting a horse I def recommend this breed but be on your toes, these guys are super smart and if they're bored they will find shenanigans to get into lmao
You are so right !!
They are smart and can achieve what other horses have to do with power with their intelligence.
btw, if you would like a corresponding dog with them..... Take Schnauzer.
But be aware, they too are VERY KEEN AND INTELLIGENT. You will have to be three steps ahead otherwise they outsmart you.
Advantage, you have a guard dog, clown and companion for your horse that looks almost the same when trotting around.
A well groomed Schnauzer has also feathers on his legs and it looks almost as if you have a mini miniature of your horse around
@@irishcoffee6894 funny you brought up the schnauzer breed bc I've been planning on getting one for a number of years, but until recently work has prevented me from doing so. I've been looking at getting a giant schnauzer next spring. More as a personal protection animal and home pet as opposed to strictly a barn dog since my line of work deals in fugitive recovery.
Would this breed be good for a timid rider? Friesians are my favorite and would love to own one one day
@@Niko-td7ok friesians though large are generally a very kind and well mannered breed, they're eager to learn and pick up things quickly, they also have a knack for taking great care of their riders and are very forgiving. If you happen to come across a good ethical trainer who can help you on your journey then yes I definitely recommend this breed
@@Niko-td7ok as with all horses, you def. need a certain level in riding horses before even trying to ride a horse.
But the Frisian horse is a forgiving kind of horse.
So if you have a certain level of riding experience you could decide to buy a Frisian horse and continue to develop your riding skills.
If your instructor is good (s)he can make sure your experience will rise TOGETHER with your horse.
But honestly, would def go for a Frisian horse, but that is my favorite breed of horse, to ride under saddle or with a carriage.
I knew these amazing horses through the Follow the Herd Chanel. There I've learned to love them.
What a Joy!!!
Aah that floating, naturally extended trot ...a dream
I had the priviledge of growing up next door to one of the first Friesian breeding operations in the US in the 1980s. Almost every day I would go out my back door, roll under the fence and spend hours in the field with the mares and foals. They had a part in raising me. So many fun and funny memories with my four footed friends. At the time I had no idea how blessed I was (nor how tiny and bald most other horses are in comparison!)
Amazing horses so very beautiful 😍.
🥰🥰
Alyssa, you had such a great time driving and riding my favorite horse breed! You were practically glowing! You saw for yourself how versatile friendly and charismatic Friesians are. You looked wonderful on that stallion. Goed zo! Thank you to Stal Chandon and Stal de Mersken and Sabien for making this possible. I too follow Yvonne and her Follow the Herd channel. We are lucky to have some gorgeous Friesians, some retired champion's, only few hours drive away from where I live in Poland. I don't care much for looks usually but these horses have the kind of firm, yet gentle character that captivated me in draft horses. Osada Karbowko is a lovely, quite posh agricultural/spa place that keeps Friesian for pleasure riding if anyone is looking for a place for family friendly horse holiday in central Europe. The terrains are gorgeous and the main trainer is very cool guy always happy to take more experienced riders for an amazing ride with these beauties.
GOEDZO! Braaf! They are poetry in motion, love seeing their frilly socks dancing on air! 😍
I once rode this awesome Friesian stallion and it felt like riding a Harley-Davidson! After my ride I poured an icy cold beer in my bucket for him and he lapped up.
