The Finn horse is the world's fastest and dare I say most versatile cold-blooded breed. It played a key role during the WWII when Finland was under a Soviet attcak, carrying troops, food, ammunition, weapons, wounded etc. And after the war in rebuilding the country, Finns owe them so much. They are great fun and sometimes very stubborn 😄 and rather healthy breed. One of the nations biggest sports events is created around this breed - Kuninkuusravit ("royal races") it's an annual championships for the Finn horse in harness racing, 50 000 people are gathering to celebrate the champions - King and Queen. It's an amazing event (a weekend) worth checking out.

Love our national horse breed because they are brave, strong, usually calm and considerate, strong willed yet so sweet and gentle. They were bred to be working horses in the fields and forests of our country in conditions that are sometimes hard; cold, snow, only little food availeble, and that made them resilient.

I like how Alyssa always acts like she's a newbie to horses, listening carefully to what these owners have to say, showing her things. When in fact, she's been riding all her life 😁 This channel brings me so much joy, horses are a passion, love them so much. 🥰

The Finnish horse is hands down the most versatile horse on the planet. There are heavier work horse lines, harness racing (they are also FAST!) riding horses in all disciplines and the smaller, pony sized lines. They are calm, sturdy, uncomplicated and supremely sensible horses. I miss them so much!!!!

Really happy to see you visiting Ypäjä and getting to know the Finnish horse breeds. Finnhorse in particular is such a national treasure: they are strong, resilient, hardworking, yet also gentle, kind and so cute! It would be impossible to imagine the whole of Finnish history without Finnhorses.

I love Finn horses for all the same reasons many here have pointed out already! I appreciate the color diversity shown here for the Finn horse. Most of them are different shades of chestnut. All the other colors almost disappeared at some point because chestnuts were favoured heavily, they were thought to be more original or something. But luckily few owners still had Finn horses in other colors and now they are not as uncommon as they once were.
Finn horse also comes in pony size, under 148 cm. The smaller ones are of course still the same horse, just smaller. Great for young riders or people who are short like me :D

Now you got to the right place! (Greetings from Finland!) The Finn Horse, has fought our wars with the people, they have saved us so many times.... They are wise, especially the work horses, and reliable beyond understanding. - My late father told a story about a mare called Liisa. This happened almost a 100 years ago in the Finnish Archipelago. On an island there was a wife in labor, and it was very difficult. The winter was turning into spring and the sea ice had "rotten" already and weakened to almost unpassable. - It was obvious, that lives of both the mother and the child were in grave danger, and it was decided to try to get the mother to continent for a doctor. The only way to do this was by a horse and a sleigh. My father used to work for the coastguard back then, so he was the chosen driver - the problem was, that those wise horses did not agree to go to the ice anymore....
    - Liisa was the only one that agreed to take up the challenge.... So they loaded the woman in labor in the sleigh, and started the journey to the rotten, blackened sea ice.... First Liisa was going very carefully, trying to sense the ice with her feet spread apart.... There was no way to try to steer, it was all up to the horse - she knew best. And then, she started running, fast...... And they broke the ice so, that open water was often seen after the sleigh. - No stopping there. - And they got all the way to the shore, and to the doctor. Both the mother and the child survived. - That is the nature of the Finn Horse.

    Yes, finally! Thank you! 😁🥰
My fave thing about the Finn horse is their calm nature. Even though I have met individuals that aren't so calm but mostly that's what they are and they don't spook so easily.
Did you know, that there is also this smaller Finn horse called Suomenpienhevonen? 😁
I didn't know you are part Finnish! That's so cool! 😁

my grandma grew up in Finland, she was born in 1932. Her dad took care of a rich man's horses. Her favorite was a chestnut mare named Lotta. They let the kids ride the horses back from the work fields to the barn sometimes, and once my grandma got to go in the river with the horses. I'm glad I asked her, she's 90 and if I didn't ask I would have never known that my great-grandpa worked with horses.

Seems to be a nice breed.
Of course i presumef there were finnish horses, but never saw one, also in competition, because i never saw a finish rider compete international. So don't know nothing about their performances.
Can they all jump or only a part of them. I will also look on google to know more about this fantastic breed.
They have national schools and academys like in spain and portugal.
But i think they should give you a trip in that normal carriage😅

    • @Mielipuolisieni

Most commonly they do not quite match warmbloods if you are thinking of world cup level showjumping.

    • @littlehufflepuff9790
      @littlehufflepuff9790 4 місяці тому

I'd say depending on the Finnhorse they can jump around 80-120cm. On dressage some individual who has a bit longer legs than the breed usually has been able to do canter pirouettes better in higher competitions but definitely not enough for world cups. But their honest and kind nature makes them the best school horses or for up to national competitions

    • @littlehufflepuff9790

If you wanna google, here some Finnish olympic riders: (previous or current) are Piia Pantsu, Kyra Kyrklund, Elmo Jankari, Emma Kanerva, Henri Ruoste. And some current world cup riders: Anna-Juulia Kontio, Noora Forstén, Sebastian Numminen. Some have ridden Finnish Warmbloods there few times in the resent years, but not Finnhorses ofc.

@@littlehufflepuff9790 it's not always necesary to be so high in competition. If you as rider have pleasure and fun with your horse it's the most important. Not everyone want to jump +1,40m. And not everyone want to be GPrider.🥰
