Yes, the absolute BEAUTY of the LADIES -- particularly their VOICES!!! LFR, have you checked out Pink Floyd's "The Great Gig in the Sky"? Originally on "The Dark Side of the Moon" album (studio version) as well as the Pulse concert (live version). BOTH ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR THE FEMALE VOCALISTS' performances: Clare Torry the soloist on "Dark Side" studio version and a trio of wonderful ladies -- Sam Brown sings 1st, next is Durga McBroom, and Claudia Fontaine is 3rd -- perform in the Pulse live version.
In my humble opinion, this is one of their best. They lyrics really hit deep and make us take a closer look at ourselves. I've asked my kids that this song be played at my funeral.
floyd ... are just something else ..... am sure they used to say the same thing ''few ( MANY ) years '' ago when they heard Mozzart , Beethoven ' Wagner etc etc ... music behond it's time ......... floyd are part of these iconics musics legends
Back in O.C. Calif when I was 30 my wife heard a commercial on the radio about a P.F. show coming up. Knowing I am a Floyd fan she called the radio station (KMET - LA, “The Mighty Met”) to get information on the concert, The DJ on live radio Cynthia Fox…. said...."Congratulations, YOU are caller number 10, YOU just won tickets to the show and the Sound Check Party before the show"... I met David Gilmour back stage. He gave us both a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I told him his music will stand the test of time with anything from Beethoven or Mozart. He smiled even bigger. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know. . I told him in my eyes he’s a “Legend“. He thanked me and said “Enjoy the show”…. during the concert after the song “Money” he looked right at me and said…. “On saxophone, another Legend, Mr. Raphael Ravenscroft” … acknowledging my comment to him. It is my favorite moment in over 300 shows I’ve seen. I asked David…. How do you create those awesome solos?… he said….. I sit on a stool and listen to what Roger, Nick and Rick put down and play along. I listen to what I played and pick out what I like, then I put the pieces together into one piece then learn to play it as one. Our fans are fanatics for our shows to sound like the albums so I must play it correctly each time in a show. I have the concert Brochure and album on the wall with David’s picture centerfold. All of us fortunate enough to have seen this show live were in a TRANCE.... MESMERIZED the entire show... as you can imagine. We walked out saying.... What did we just witness? That was out of this world incredible. The Red Fender Stratocaster he used for this concert in the Guitar Collector World is ....PRICELESS
This is another reason I come to these reaction channels to read comments like this! Awesome story, well written. I missed my one chance to see them. Roger is coming close soon, but David is the one I would choose to see beings there split up with no chance of reuniting. Again awesome story! Rock on.
These old guys did one thing that young artist don't: Rehearse. You don't need auto tune when you practice. You don't need a machine to play the instrument when you practice. You don't need a producer to make it better in post recording, when you practice. Music is work. It's not all fame and adulation.
The Three Greatest Live Guitar Solos.... Pink Floyd-David Gilmour - "Comfortably Numb" - "Sorrow" from the 1994 Pulse Tour... And This "On The Turning Away" 1987 "Delicate Sound Of Thunder" Tour...... I saw them all several times.
This is pretty much a consensus at this point…i would also personally add Run Like Hell, because this was an epic closing for the best live performances if not ever than surely in PF’s personal careers! Very memorable moment as well…
This is my favorite Pink Floyd song ever. Possibly my fav song ever. The lyrics are so powerful and relevant. It never fails to remind me to be part of the change, not the turning away. It is one of the greatest songs ever.
You should really read the lyrics to this. It’s one of their best, lyrically, imo. Talking about people turning away from the horrors of the world because it’s happening to someone else or somewhere else. No more turning away from the coldness inside. Very deep and still very true today.
Sorrow. Keep Talking, both live. Best live performers ever. Don’t see them up there “look at me and how great I am” like a lot of performers do. Shout out to Nick on drums, he is on fire on this one.
David Gilmour - My favorite guitarist EVER !! His guitar sound takes you to another place... I was lucky enough to see them LIVE at the Superdome. OMG. Pinkimus Floydus BOOM !
ZEPPELIN IS REMARKABLE in their own right and are genuine ROCKERS, FLOYD however I have always seen them as not rockers, BUT AS MODERN CLASSICAL COMPOSERS. Their music has the slow soft vibe or classical music and the UPBEAT Hard feeling of the classical music that then goes back soft. PINK FLOYD IS JUST ON A DIFFERENT LEVEL than MOST BANDS, ELO is also such a band.
Pink Floyd is in a category all to themselves! This song just smacks your ass right in the heart. David Gilmour and that guitar and his singing will give you chills!
The night I was there was the 25th anniversary of the 1969 Moon Landing, so they played Dark Side Of The Moon all the way through. I was up high, right side of stage and it was unbelievable. And I had been to Nassau Coliseum , Yankee Stadium, and 2 Giants PF shows before that in 87 and again in 94....but DSOTM in it's entirety on a starry night was just great
I saw Pink Floyd in Mannheim, West Germany, in 1988 (Momentary Lapse of Reason tour). It was incredible. The light show was out of this world, and, of course, the music was beyond any other artist I've seen live.
Was very fortunate to see Pink at Pittsburghs, Three Rivers stadium in 94 or 96 (can’t remember what year) for the Division Bell tour!! One of the best shows I’ve been too!! 🤟🏻🤟🏻
I understand your feelings about Led Zeppelin. They’re pretty much my 2nd favorite band. Hard to even compare them with Pink Floyd because they’re so different. And then there’s Yes and ELP, two other incredible bands that deserve a deep dive into their early years (Live concerts in the 70s.)
The three ladies are Machan Taylor. Durga McBroom and Rachel Fury. Performing live on stage with Pink Floyd speaks for itself.. All three have phenomenal voices!
It really warms my heart seeing young people experiencing, enjoying, and most of all, appreciating one of, if not the greatest bands in history. No auto-tune. Just pure perfection.
This closed out the first set when I saw them at Capital Centre in October of 87, and then again at RFK in June of 88. They do these kind of numbers better than anyone. Hits deep.
That lady knocked that note right outta the park!! Any takers on whether she has ANY crystalware in her house that isn't shattered?? Or some poor guy in the front row wearing glasses that are getting cracked??LOL
I attended the fourth 1987 show in Los Angeles at the Sports Arena, and you are correct in how they present their music, in that they seem to highlight different aspects of their songs, making them flow from beginning to end. Great reaction.
This should be an anthem for homelessness. Pink Floyd has made the history books...they felt deeply about so many things, and put music to it. Love Love Pink Floyd💕💕💕🎸🎶🎙🎹 check out Shine On You Crazy Diamond. The intro will blow you away.
Delicate Sound of Thunder holds a special place in my heart, as it was my gateway into Pink Floyd, and to me, its one of the best live albuns ever made. Pulse is good, with amazing moments, but the way this was fllmed and put together is just perfect and flawless. Great reaction dude. Keep em coming
This is one of my favorite songs and top three music videos. I love everything about it, but, like you my man, those ladies just steal the show. I can't get enough. I loved your reaction. thx.
It is not like a masterclass. It is a masterclass! I've been fortunately enough to hear them live. Oh, boy! But it kinga sucks, because it makes me old.....
British musicians are often on another level. Another example is the group Yes, whose members were all professional musicians that played multiple instruments.
Thid big encredible sound, thats whats addictive. Where else can you play your music Outside that concert hall? Nowhere! So you just want to keep playing show after show. Because when it ends. Youll never get to play so big and loud anywhere. You love the sound! And the people that come to listen. I liked playing in front of people but i loved playing for me and the chemistry of the band.more than anything else. I played for the love of playing . I didnt care if anybody showed up or not really.
I saw the 94 Pulse show at Syracuse Carrier Dome....AWESOME. Next day news paper headline ....... "PINK FLOYD, Still Number One In Space. after taking the audience on a Magic Carpet Ride through outer space where no man has ever traveled before."
This band was able to break out of the box that most musicians are stuck in, and show us a totally different kind of music. I am 71 yrs old, and have loved this band since the first note I heard in the back of an old 1966 "hippie" van. So glad I grew up with my favorite bands. Pink Floyd and my other favorites Beatles and Led Zeppelin.
If you get a chance to go see Brit Floyd you should go . We went to the Orpheum in Memphis a couple of weeks ago and saw them and it was awesome , the light show and sound was absolutely great . One thing that surprised me was seeing about 25 to 30 black women in one group , all wearing purple tee shirts , and aging from a teenager to a senior citizen there to see the show . All I could do was smile , it was a great night .
No more turning away From the weak and the weary No more turning away From the coldness inside Just a world that we all must share It's not enough just to stand and stare Is it only a dream that there'll be No more turning away?
Pink Floyd is always great. I was fortunate enough to see them in 1994 on this tour in the rain at soldier field (Chicago) in the 17th row. They sold out all the tickets in 45 seconds and it caused Ticketmasters computers to crash.
Check out RUN LIKE HELL and also SORROW, both live from the Pulse Concert (1994). The extended guitar solo and the spectacular light show combine for an unforgettable performance.
floyd ... are just something else ..... am sure they used to say the same thing ''few ( MANY ) years '' ago when they heard Mozzart , Beethoven ' Wagner etc etc ... music behond it's time ......... floyd are part of these iconics musics legends
My great uncle Buford Jones was the sound engineer for this tour as well as the album momentary lapse of reason which was recorded before the live album this video is from
At 9:49 the backing vocalist Machan Taylor just perfectly nails it and gives any listener heavenly goosebumps. I am mesmerized by the beauty and voice of Rachel Fury but what Machan achieves here makes me forget the rest of the band altogether for a few seconds. Interestingly she has her own channel. By the way, I love how you smile as though you had won the lottery! Very nice and communicative.
This piece is from the legendary "The Delicate Sound of Thunder" concert from 1988...this is absolute perfection...at the end you will be wanting it to never end!Ty brother Van for sharing this...
1987 Delicate sound of Thunder. Vann.. You have to give it a listen, the whole concert. These 3 chicks blow it down my brother! Great gig in the Sky!!! Simply breathtaking how all three of them take a solo...
love it bro. i love when a black dude that aint seen much slow white music checks out pink floyd. the melodies are on point. love your videos! keep it rockin!
The words to this are powerful and poignant indictment on society today. Inspire to be a positive change in someone's life. I also want this played at my funeral.
Wow Gilmore's just such a brilliant guitarist and yeah I'm glad you acknowledged the backup singers it's almost a crime to call in the backup singers cuz they're at the Forefront you know it's so cool dude he Gilmour sold his guitars at auction and I think he's sold his flat in London he used said money to help the homeless so he walks the walk not just talk the talk all right brother man yeah that girl really hit that note
On the turning away From the pale and downtrodden And the words they say Which we won't understand Don't accept that what's happening Is just a case of others' suffering Or you'll find that you're joining in The turning away It's a sin that somehow Light is changing to shadow And casting its shroud Over all we have known Unaware how the ranks have grown Driven on by a heart of stone We could find that we're all alone In the dream of the proud On the wings of the night As the daytime is stirring Where the speechless unite in a silent accord Using words, you will find, are strange Mesmerised as they light the flame Feel the new wind of change On the wings of the night No more turning away From the weak and the weary No more turning away From the coldness inside Just a world that we all must share It's not enough just to stand and stare Is it only a dream that there'll be No more turning away? What's awesome is you can love PF AND Zeppelin at the same time...:)...And Genesis, Crimso, Gentle Giant, Moody Blues, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, etc etc etc...:)
I remember as teenager Pink Floyd was omnipresent, their album spent years i the Billboard top ten, breaking records. At the time I wasn’t a fan, as an adult, I love them. They’re as good as it gets. Well done, consciousnesses expanding music.
Pink Floyd is legendary! No other Rock band in history is like Pink Floyd. It's crazy, they use the same instruments as virtually all the Rock Bands ever, yet they sound soooo different and unique. I guess when you sell over 450 million albums worldwide, more than any other Rock Band in history, except The Beatles, )600 million), you must be very unique and talented. You've listened to a lot of PF Van, you know how they take the listener on a cerebral journey, that's a powerhouse of talent! I don't know if you're aware of how they got their band name, after a few different ones they settled on Pink Floyd. Now, Pink Floyds got much of their inspirations from ole' time American Blues players. And they took their band name from two of those American Blues players from the 1920s and 1930s,.... Their names were, PINK Anderson, and FLOYD Council!
You know someone is listening to Floyd because you can't help but close your eyes to absorb the whole experience. Then Gilmore pierces you with his solo and you are gone. Roger Waters wrote some good lyrics in the first incarnation, but you can tell it was Gilmore that was the heart of the music Floyd created as it stayed the same in the second incarnation without Waters.
Pink Floyd saved my life...
One of the best lines I ever heard was: "Some people wish for a guitar for Christmas, Guitars wish for David Gilmour."
It's been said that God invented the guitar, and that David Gilmour taught Him to play it
Its strange that you're not prepared to feel when you hear Floyd for the first time..... and then you feel EVERYTHING
When she hits that note with the solo…… biblical level goosebumps Every. Single. Time.
machantaylor-goddess
And she's hot! In my opinion
Check out Great gig in the sky from the same concert. All three of them show out.
Yes, the absolute BEAUTY of the LADIES -- particularly their VOICES!!! LFR, have you checked out Pink Floyd's "The Great Gig in the Sky"? Absolutely. Such an under rated song and performance. The backing singers bring so much to this concert. I was there and it was the best concert ever.
Roger Waters had nothing to do with this song but I think he has to admit it was a great song!
@@jeanluke39 Thumbs Up but with a caveat - unlike Wagner Pink Floyd's music is as good as it sounds.
I totally ordered my kids to play Echoes studio version at my funeral.
Hermoso final
Pink Floyd always stands alone in their unique style - so many bands are unique of course but Pink Floyd is just on another level.
Mozzart , Beethoven ' Wagner etc etc are those who created MUSIC ... music behond it's time ......... floyd are part of these iconics musics legends
i concur
Adding to your comment, Pink Floyd aren't just on another level, Pink Floyd is on the top level.
😎🏍💨👍
Pink Floyd doesn't create music, they create audible beauty.
Well put! Never heard music described that way!
Mozzart , Beethoven ' Wagner etc etc are those who created MUSIC ... music behond it's time ......... floyd are part of these iconics musics legends

Wow..just wow.. OMG.. wow.. 👏...😎
I've read this before. Awhile back.
Wow! I can’t even imagine! Thanks for sharing. 🥰

What a great story and memory! Good for you and keep thanking your wife!

Some call it the 10 thousand hour rule. Practice Practice Practice, then maybe.

I concur, but u have to add "Keep Talking" 😁
My top 3 too. In that order.
This is pretty much a consensus at this point…i would also personally add Run Like Hell, because this was an epic closing for the best live performances if not ever than surely in PF’s personal careers! Very memorable moment as well…
add High Hopes Pulse as #4.
You have a bit of a Pink Floyd bias. Definitely all in the top 10
You"re absolutely right.... havung the ladies and their angelic voices in there adds so much 👍👍😎
it was always Pink Floyd and Zeppelin for me because of my Dad!
This is my favorite Pink Floyd song ever. Possibly my fav song ever. The lyrics are so powerful and relevant. It never fails to remind me to be part of the change, not the turning away. It is one of the greatest songs ever.

I agree, amazing song - but he really should have lyrics up for every song.
Peace 🕯️
Try Mark Knopfler.... pretty sure you'll change your mind
My favorite band of all time
@ 6:12 when the guitarist went wild, I just about choked in laughter when you said “OK Purple Rain”. -genx’er
The best non band video of this song . a must see. Pink Floyd " on the turning away" (1989-07-15) FM by thinkfloyd61. over 7 million views.
Pink Floyd are "on a different stratosphere". You got that right, bro.
Keep in mind-I haven't seen certain photos of you from diffrrent angles.
best band of all times 😎👍 next one from Pink Floyd - Coming back to life ( live to Pulse concert 1994 ) 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
There are so connected to the spirit wisdom that everything what they do touches your Soul 🙏💜
I saw Pink Floyd live at Giants Stadium in 1994 -- probably the best concert I've seen
Clemson, SC for me & *definitely* the best concert I’ve ever seen. 🔥🎶🔥
The night I was there was the 25th anniversary of the 1969 Moon Landing, so they played Dark Side Of The Moon all the way through. I was up high, right side of stage and it was unbelievable. YOU WIN. FLOYD IS #1
Was very fortunate to see Pink at Pittsburghs, Three Rivers stadium in 94 or 96 (can’t remember what year) for the Division Bell tour!!
You have excellent taste in rock.
Pink Floyd is Legend. 🤘
I was mesmerized when I saw this live. The energy in the air was palpable.
People walking out after a Pink Floyd concert *feel* different than people exiting other concerts. And different than they did walking in.
Love this song so much! It's hard to compare Led Zeppelin to Pink Floyd; they're both great but they're very different from each other.
There really isn’t any way of saying a band is better than another. Just enjoy all of them.
PINK FLOYD IS AN EXPERIENCE YOU CAN NEVER FORGET!
On The Turning Away and Sorrow have the two most criminally underrated guitar solos of the entire history of this band.
Agree, pink Floyd just makes yours nerves stand on end!
This closed out the first set when I saw them at Capital Centre in October of 87, and then again at RFK in June of 88. They do these kind of numbers better than anyone. Hits deep.
Right off the bat I’m back!! Not dealing with the chat is letting you focus. That’s the you we love! Welcome back
That lady knocked that note right outta the park!! Any takers on whether she has ANY crystalware in her house that isn't shattered?? Or some poor guy in the front row wearing glasses that are getting cracked??LOL

Saw them when I lived in Annapolis, they were playing at RFK, and the stands were rocking up and down. It was an absolutely incredible performance.
What an experience THAT must have been! 🥰
I saw this show in Cleveland at the old stadium. It rained like Hell the whole time and no one cared. A truly magical night.
Oh, boy! But it kinga sucks, because it makes me old.....
u are
Pink Floyd is the best live. Period
these guys are definitely one of my all time favorite bands
Dude you got it right this band is epic.
Such an amazing and underrated guitar performance by the legendary David Gilmour. The lyrics are quite thought-provoking as well
He his no longer underrated
This song had a real impact on me. I now donate to homeless organizations help out anytime l can. Just can't turn away anymore.
British musicians are often on another level. Another example is the group Yes, whose members were all professional musicians that played multiple instruments.

I didnt care if anybody showed up or not really.
I was there and I probably enjoyed that performance even more than comfortably numb. Awesome.
Great reaction thanks.
So happy you picked this version.
The intro to “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” is fantastic.. Smoke a bowl and just get lost in their music.
You could check out the final performance of the original members in 1985 at Live Aid. 25 minutes and 4 songs of pure magic.
I’ve probably watched this 30 times from different reactors, never noticed the lady with the crazy pipes until now, awesome breakdown.
High hopes and learning to fly are beautiful as well 😊
“Master Class” sums it up perfectly.
If you get a chance to go see Brit Floyd you should go . We went to the Orpheum in Memphis a couple of weeks ago and saw them and it was awesome , the light show and sound was absolutely great . No more turning away
From the weak and the weary
No more turning away
From the coldness inside
Just a world that we all must share
It's not enough just to stand and stare
Is it only a dream that there'll be
No more turning away?
Love them all,.........music is here to make us happy,.....
That was awesome!!!
Pink Floyd is always great. I was fortunate enough to see them in 1994 on this tour in the rain at soldier field (Chicago) in the 17th row. They sold out all the tickets in 45 seconds and it caused Ticketmasters computers to crash.
Pink Floyd is the GOAT

Totally with you on the backing singers - when Machan screams that note it sends a shiver up my spine, every time.
Nobody tops “The Floyd....”😎🏆🥇🔥🎸
I’ve never even heard this song but I’m appreciating it because of your obvious respect for the music. Yes, the ladies do make it right!
My favorite song ever. Period.

I had the VHS of this and bought the DVD when it came available...they truly got everything right with this concert!
"it's like a Master Class ..."
Exactly - well said.
love it bro. i love when a black dude that aint seen much slow white music checks out pink floyd. the melodies are on point. love your videos! keep it rockin!
This whole concert is epic - used to watch it every weekend when I was younger :)
Comfortably Numb Pulse concert is great, hits the soul...would enjoy hearing tremendously... Real soul music
The lyrics and message of this song is incredible.
A class of their own 😎
If I had to pick one band whose discography I would listen to for the rest of my life, it would be Pink Floyd.
Pink Floyd is the best!Bar none.Dig deeper into them.I love you and your family for all your other stuff too.
On the turning away
From the pale and downtrodden
And the words they say
Which we won't understand
Don't accept that what's happening
Is just a case of others' suffering
Or you'll find that you're joining in
The turning away
It's a sin that somehow
Light is changing to shadow
And casting its shroud
Over all we have known
Unaware how the ranks have grown
Driven on by a heart of stone
We could find that we're all alone
In the dream of the proud
On the wings of the night
As the daytime is stirring
Where the speechless unite in a silent accord
Using words, you will find, are strange
Mesmerised as they light the flame
Feel the new wind of change
On the wings of the night
No more turning away
From the weak and the weary
No more turning away
From the coldness inside
Just a world that we all must share
It's not enough just to stand and stare
Is it only a dream that there'll be
No more turning away?
What's awesome is you can love PF AND Zeppelin at the same time...:)...And Genesis, Crimso, Gentle Giant, Moody Blues, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, etc etc etc...:)
I remember as teenager Pink Floyd was omnipresent, their album spent years i the Billboard top ten, breaking records. At the time I wasn’t a fan, as an adult, I love them. They’re as good as it gets. Well done, consciousnesses expanding music.
best band to ever take a stage.
Their names were, PINK Anderson, and FLOYD Council!
you are spot on! The wonderful women voices are so bloody good on this track! This is easily Pink Floyd's most underrated song of all time, indeed!
David Gilmour is a musical genious as well as in production and direction of his band. He is a bigtime perfectionist.
Led Zep vs Pink Floyd? It's like choosing a favorite child, isn't it?
And definitely sabbath join those 2 without question
Yeah I would have to agree
No, Pink Floyd all the way! They're in a class all by themselves. No comparison!
Pink Floyd are you Kidding me
You know someone is listening to Floyd because you can't help but close your eyes to absorb the whole experience. Then Gilmore pierces you with his solo and you are gone. Roger Waters wrote some good lyrics in the first incarnation, but you can tell it was Gilmore that was the heart of the music Floyd created as it stayed the same in the second incarnation without Waters.
Your post needs to be pinned. Because everything about it is on point.
