Back in O.C. Calif when I was 27 my wife heard a commercial on the radio about a P.F. show coming up. Knowing I am a Floyd fan she called the radio station (KMET - LA, “The Mighty Met”) to get information on the concert, The DJ on live radio Cynthia Fox…. said...."Congratulations, YOU are caller number 10, YOU just won tickets to the show and the Sound Check Party before the show"...
I met David Gilmour back stage. He gave us both a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I told him his music will stand the test of time with anything from Beethoven or Mozart. He smiled even bigger. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know. . I told him in my eyes he’s a “Legend“. He thanked me and said “Enjoy the show”…. during the concert after the song “Money” he looked right at me and said…. “On saxophone, another Legend, Mr. Scott Page” … acknowledging my comment to him. It is my favorite moment in over 300 shows I’ve seen.
All of us fortunate enough to have seen this show live were in a TRANCE.... MESMERIZED the entire show... as you can imagine. We walked out saying.... What did we just witness? That was out of this world incredible. The Red Fender Stratocaster he used for this concert in the Guitar Collector World is ....PRICELESS

This is from 1994. Pink Floyd has been around since 1965. David Gilmour (guitarist and singer) just put out the first "Pink Floyd" song in 28 years to show solidarity with Ukraine. His daughter in law and grandchildren are Ukrainian. It's called "Hey Hey Rise Up." First song by them in 28 years, out of retirement for a good cause.

Nothing like a Pink Floyd concert, light show, props, surround sound , a cloud of pot smoke in the arena and the music just made you melt into your seat, you were in a trance. I saw them six times , the whole audience was immobilized and mesmerized every single time.

Okay, it looked from here like you had your eyes closed for most of this performance - it's perfectly okay, even recommended, to keep your eyes closed while listening to their albums, but never keep your eyes closed during a live performance! Floyd's concerts are a visual experience along with the other senses they usually involve. Their concerts are mind-blowing! I encourage you to watch this again, eyes open!

@@gibsongirl2100 If you are new to it, trying to take in everything at once will miss a lot too.
Even if you have been listening to Floyd songs for decades (like me) you can still pick up new things without the visuals.
Just calm down and allow people to experience things at their own pace.

@@Varksterable Thanks for weighing in with your sage advice. I've been listening to Floyd since I was a kid, so you don't need to tell me about their music. Most everyone who's ever been to one of their concerts will agree with my comment. And as for your condescending advice to "calm down", I was hardly hysterical. Just FYI, anyone who uses that phrase to someone who isn't trapped in a burning building comes off as a bit of a jerk.

    • @Varksterable
      @Varksterable 2 роки тому

@@gibsongirl2100 My comment of "If you are new to it" was about the reactor, not you. Not everything is about you.
You "wanting to scream" about him missing stuff is what I was commenting on.
You see this "too often" and it "drives you nuts".
That's what you need to calm down about. The reaction is not yours. And the person making it does not have your experience. By definition. So don't expect it or try to impose it.

I have seen Pink Floyd Live 4 times… I saw this same show in N.Y. 1994. The concert brochure said the stage is 120 feet wide. It takes a crew of 60 technicians three days to set up the entire lights and all. The concert schedule required that there had to be three entire crews to keep up. They leap froged each other for 92 shows with 20 Trucks per crew and a total staff of 195. The tour cost the promoters $98.MILLION to put on, but the total profit was $260 MILLION…
I have seen Pink Floyd 4 times. Nick Mason’s drumming is incredible and matches Gilmour’s guitar emotions while Richard Wright takes us on a Magic Carpet Ride of tones that form the foundation of it all.

I am so thankful to have lived through the 60's 70's & 80's because it will never be duplicated. Oh, and concert tickets were like $20 for even the huge bands back then.

It was a different version but I saw them live for the Division Bell Cleveland leg of the tour. It was an awesome experience and I walked out with a chicky poo in each arm (not that my charm didn't play a role). Had to have security help us find our Ford Bonco with the top removed all while holding extra cups of beerverages and T-shirts. While walking in and down the street from the parking garage there was a colored fella quietly saying I got hash here, who wants hash? etc. My friend who is very vocal and stupid started yelling at the top of his lungs... "HASH, HE'S GOT HASH! THIS GUY HAS HASH!" and started pointing. The street vendor just looked him in the eyes and said, "Boy, that's a good way to miss the concert!"

I got to tell you bud, enjoy the music in your own way however you wish but, keeping your eyes closed during a Pink Floyd concert is like going to Star Wars and facing the back of the theater!! Again if you enjoy music the most with your eyes closed to each his own and go ahead. Just pointing out that Pink Floyd puts on "THE SHOW!! They are simply Second To None when it comes to video production during their live shows!!! I mean at the end of one of their songs during this same concert they have a full size plane crash right next to the stage and explode! It's not a video it's an actual plane!! And they have many other amazing surprises during this show! I mean did you see the crystal ball during Comfortably Numb that was big enough to be a two-story apartment? I found myself shouting "please look at the screen"!!! Anyway like I said, to each his own enjoy it how you want to...

Thanks so much for reacting to this! This song is a tribute by Gilmoure and Waters to their childhood friend Syd Barret who suffered from mental health problem and eventually had to be replaced. Syd Barrett's sickness and absence literally haunted the group for so many years with titles such as: Wish you were here, Shine on your crazy diamond, Comfortably Numb and so on.

This is the song I first experienced Rockin Roll and weed together and it was so freaking good and I was like man who could not like weed and Rockin Roll
It’s hard to explain how good this music sounds when you was smoking and that’s when no one thought weed was cool Like my mother’s generation always forbid me from listening to Rockin Roll they always told me that it was the Devil’s music but as I got older I finally got my mom to listen to some of the lyrics of the music and she came around a little bit But when she heard the names of some of these rock bands she was not pleased at all Like Blue Oyster Cult and AC/DC and Judiest Priest Man I caught more hell about Rockin Roll than you could believe But she did it all in love for me and teaching me about Jesus Christ and I finally understood why she was like she was When I got older I understood where she was coming from This is why children should listen to there parents and not be so rebellious and why parents should be more truthful and real with their kids Because my parents always told that I was not going to do this and that and it made me want to prove them wrong and that why I try my best to tell kids how things really are But my parents just didn’t understand this because of the way they was raised so it wasn’t their fault
I love your channel and how you break things down

Some of the most beautiful and at the same time heart wrenching guitar playing ever.. Thank you David Gilmour.. even though I am in the Roger Waters camp and think its not Pink Floyd without him, this sounded great.. btw R.I.P. Richard Wright (2008)
