@@yenkocamaro6965 Except AC-130 is in drop G lol
@@bobbyadamson2333 Ah yeah, good times.
Drop C is the best tuning in my opinion
Standard and Drop C are the only ones I like
Personally also love Drop F, G and D. Tho, everything from drop C to F is okay to me(Standard tuning just not really mine, and anything lower than F is worthless, except for some occasions)
Communism Untill eternity ends drop F and G lol as the tunings that wont get you laid but will impress scene kids. Drop C is low enough
@@Opticillusion160 I'm not playing metal in it's classical understanding. I love, when it becomes sort of trance(if you want example, check out Nick's video about most used tunings, final riff, perfect example of what I play). And G# is actually pretty nice for fast stuff, like Periphery. Tho,Drop C is lit too,but I just love little bit different type of metal.
it can definitely get the job done
The breakdown in So Cold by Breaking Benjamin will always be one of my favorite drop C riffs

Funny side note: When I saw Metallica on their first tour supporting St. Anger they had already gotten to the point where they only played one song from St. Anger...and it was Frantic, not even the title track of the album. Lol
Im pretty late to this party but this list outlines my entire childhood learning riffs lol. Also died at 2:05 when Disturbed made an appearance for 1 tenth of a second lmfao. Nailed it Nik.
Oh my fucking god, I missed it because I was too distracted with other things
Seeing the Human Abstract was completely unexpected. Such an underrated band.
Also glad to see you showing ABRB some love.
Dude, Nocturne is an absolute masterpiece of progressive metalcore. AJ is an absolute beast of a guitarist. Still blows my mind that he was only like 18 or 19 when they recorded that album.
NOBODY I’ve talked to has known the human abstract and I’m pissed because they were SO underrated
@@markcaron4683 I got to hang out with them at Warped Tour 2008 when they came to Minnesota. My friend and I won a VIP contest they had on Myspace. We helped them set up right next to Katy Perry's stage set and it was pretty awesome. I saw them two other times in the Twin Cities in 09 and 11 and then they just disappeared off the planet.

"There's no list without Metallica" (c) Stevie T
Wise you are
I have sound-colour synesthesia and I interpret the key of C as having a deep red colour, so that deep red guitar was suuuuuuper satisfying
Edit: WOW some people like to comment without doing any research. I know the official name is chromesthesia, I gave it the simpler name so that more people could understand what I meant. The general estimate for the amount of people who have synesthesia is around 4% - approx. 320 MILLION people - but some studies have estimated that it's more like 1 in 23 people. Not exactly some hyper-rare brain condition that everyone in the comment section "suddenly has". Also, one of the main components of synesthesia is different people interpreting the same thing in different ways, i.e. a musical note being green to one person, and purple to another. It doesn't have to be interpreted the same way by every synesthete to be real - in fact, it's one of the main things we fight over. I really fucking hope that clears some things up before even more of a shitstorm gets created.
I’ve always thought that sorta thing was super cool lmao
When I was a kid I matched songs and sounds with colours but I don’t really do it anymore I wish I could
Even though its a low tuning i still interpret it as a baby blue
@@erichargis7466 I imagine it as a dark blue.
Justin Last nothing ever happens
Was not expecting Frantic to be on here. Say what you want about St. Anger but you can't deny that there are some fucking awesome riffs on that album.
If it was made by any other band people would love it. It's only because it was Metallica. But you are so right, some of the riffs are HEAVY as feck.
I love St anger idk why people moan about that album, they need to get laid more often, release the tension
Agreed!!! 🤘
Its not a bad album just bad by Metallica standards
The production was bad, it was missing that signature Metallica tone, Lars is the drummer, they had a studio bassist that was not NEARLY as good as Jason or Cliff, they were going through therapy together, they ran out of Dave Mustaine riffs, and the aggression just wasn't really there. The songs were heavy.. Hell throw one of those riffs through an EVH 5153 and set Bass at 6 mid at 5 and treb at 8, pres at 6 and gain at 5.5 and it sounds heavy as fuck. But you could tell that the aggression from earlier albums wasn't there.
If it was released by any other band, my criticisms would have been the same. With the exception of the signature metallica tone and lars drumming part.
Metallica carries weight in the industry for a reason. That album was terrible by their standards and should be judged by that standard because they are the ones who created it. No one cares if a local band wrote St. Anger. Hell we wouldn't even be talking about that album if they did.
OH MY GOSH YOU DID NOT JUST PUT MEDDLER IN THIS, I LOVE YOU FOR THAT
Can I joy you in the ABR circlejerk?
Yes you may my good sir
Jabuti Katuti ikr? So damn sick!
Meddler is the GOAT of the ABR catalog.
That was one of the first songs I put on the list :)
Every system of a down song ever, anyone?
Yes, Mezmerize and Hypnotize are in Drop C# but it's basically the same thing
I thought I was the only one who ever listened to The Human Abstract lol. Seems like no one knows them. Big ups to you for tossing em in the mix!🤘
The Shooting Star by Gojira will always be my favorite Drop C riff!
That is a great riff
Thanks for the periphery, my dude
The Faceless, SOAD, I the Breather, and MMI (specifically A Dance with Aera Cura) back to back. All favs lol
I asked for drop Q. Not drop C. Oh well. Good as always!
Thanks!
Great riffs!
A lot of my favorite drop C riffs are Rob Arnold's, from (imo under rated) Chimaira back then and now in The Elite which remains under the radar it seems.
You’re playing some of my favorite songs on my favorite guitar I’ve played on. That neck feels so good and even though it had active pickups I thoroughly enjoyed the hellraiser.

Fucking children of bodom
Yeah bodom is mostly d standard
Favorite band
The Faceless has some crazy riffs. Some of the most unique structure and hooks I've heard.
So true, the faceless is light years ahead in songwriting to most bands featured in this video, michael keene is a master songwriter
When you played "Frantic", I started hearing James Hetfield in my head doing that hilarious chorus.
You need to do, “best songs by bands that are no longer together”
**Cough cough The Human Abstract Cough Cough**
Oo I love that idea!
Heaviest in standard tuning
That would just be 10 Sylosis riffs
@@josuastangl7140 just realised. Can't argue with that.
Winds of plague as well as sylosis I guess... 😂
You should check out JamieSlays, he already covered this topic. Still, Nik should do it as well
Heir Apparent (or anything Opeth really) has to be at the top
That Meddler riff took me ages to get down cleanly, but it was so satisfying once I did. That whole song is a finger work out!
Also liking the inclusion of some old school Black Dahlia Murder!
I am glad BFMV was included; most of their songs are in Drop C. It was difficult to choose a favourite from this video but mine were BFMV, Metallica, System of a Down & Blessthefall.

Awesome lesson ! Thanks ! Drop C tuning is relatively new to me and you provide a good lesson in what can be done with it in metal.
That August Burns Red riff is one of the most fun.

Yesssss the Bullet For My Valentine riff.. Thank youuuuu, The End is amazing
1:06 That Periphery - Buttersnips riff is so juicy, love them.
Honestly I loved drop C but in 2019 it sounds like classic rock
Thats sad
Dark Flame I actually think it can be used for good. Bands like Mastodon use it for prog and it gives it a heavy sound without going down to Baritone tunings
Band like Neurosis can make songs in E standard heavy as fuck.
Oh damn
@@simoneartini3302 I agree some bands can pull it off. Like Hammer Smashed Face by Cannibal Corpse is in Eb and it's heavy as shit but most bands that use that tuning don't come close anymore considering that something as ridiculous as drop G is now considered a normal tuning.
Drop C RULES!!! 🤘🔥🔥🔥🤘
I literally JUST leaned how to play Through Struggle recently. Even with tabs, that song is tough to learn IMO.

No My Curse or Waking The Demon?
Wanted to keep it to one song per band
Waking the demon is a banger as well as My Curse (They are always in my repertoire of warmup songs) but they aren't the heaviest of those 2 bands.
I vote Numbered Days as heaviest KSE song and 4 words as BFMV's heaviest. But then again I thought everything after SAF was trash by them and they've always sounded like a watered down trivium IMO.
