@usaflagraybans it's not even a bad album, it's just a weird one for metallica to have written. If it was the debut album for a new band a ton of people would have loved it

Agreed. The lowest that I will go in my playing is Drop-B, but I usually find that sweet spot with Drop-C. C#-Standard and Drop-C are my two favorite tunings for metal.
I genuinely don’t think anyone comes close to the signature sound cues that is GOJIRA. those guys have perfected the way they use their techniques and sound. they’re a true force of sonic nature.
Swallow the Sun has a lot of songs in drop C. They may not be the most aggressive band but their music has the crushing feeling of melancholy. They're doom metal after all.
Common Drop C W. Great playing, man! Also, I absolutely love that guitar. My favorite drop C riff might be "Heavy Lies the Crown" - Draconian. It's a doomy one, super dark and evil. "A Million Tears" - Trees of Eternity is close, too, but I suppose that's more of a melody than a riff
Drop C is still the best tuning to this day. Even though I hardly touch my Jackson setup in Drop C. But when I do man I fall in love all over again lol.
i own neural dsp, amplitude, guitar rig 7 , and a few others. and none compare to the sound i get from my Otto audio II II II II. this guy made me laugh today. i was not expecting FRantic to be on this list. we all love st anger so much as you know with that iconic snare
These riffs are such a throwback to highschool when Drop C reigned supreme on my guitars. Full video on my channel for those who want to learn how to maintain and setup this guitar!
Honestly Frantic goes so fucking hard, so glad you included it. Choosing a Gojira riff though, oof, tough choice. Toxic Garbage Island is always the drop C one that gets me.
When the As Blood Runs Black song started I was like "Is he going to tremolo pick it this time??" and you DID! Sounded great. I always just play it how you used to.
Great video as always dude. “Thoughts Without Words” by Shadows Fall is def up there with my favourite drop C riffs along with Senior Limpio by Corrosion Of Conformity
I just got my army green HT a couple of days ago. I have wanted a USA Jackson since the late 80's and never had the chance. And now I get one pretty much speced out exactly the way I would have done it. It's crazy how close this guitar gets to my dream Soloist. I may be wrong, but isn't this the first fixed bridge USA Soloist ever offered? Outside of the Custom Shop, I mean.
I recently revisted playing guitar and im suprised ive learnt half the riffs youve played. But for born of osiris i would have used the take over ! Awesome stuff man
my favorite drop C riffs are basically the entire revenants album by conducting from the grave. They’ve long since disbanded but holy shit that album holds up soooo wel
most these picks my all time favorites - growing up in that mid 2000s metalcore - to early 2010's deathcore era is goated. blessing seeing shows back then. ABR & EMMURE were some of the craziest crowds, veil of maya had the whole floor of heaven in the masquerade bouncing like a trampoline during Summer Slaughter so many amazing bands. great picks
You can’t talk about Drop C tuning without bringing up System of a Down, they were the first band that really got me that tuning and Daron Malakian is still one of my biggest influences when it comes to writing in that tuning or Drop C# so I’m honestly kinda surprised they weren’t on here. But if you do make a Part 2 here are some riffs from them you can include if you want - Chop Suey! - Aerials - Toxicity - Sugar - Prison Song - Needles - Suite-Pee - Spiders - Protect the Land - Prison Song - Chic ‘N’ Stu - I-E-A-I-A-I-O - Mr. Jack
Aerials was one of the first guitar riffs I ever learned so I definitely agree! Like I said, there are hundreds more I could have picked for a video haha
@@BaenaCarcosa Definitely agree, Suey was the song that got me into them and Aerials is my favourite from them but they really have way too many great riffs. Daron is an absolute machine lol
I think that the whole-step down based stuff is the perfect hard rock tuning. I was half-step down/drop C# for a long time because so many of my favorite artists were partial to it, but I could never quite get what I wanted to hear out of it and it’s a little dissonant. I go to D standard/Drop C# 436Hz and the clouds parted
All great choices. Respect for putting Frantic in there. That riff is a banger 😂 My little early to mid 2000s metalcore kid heart was very happy by so many of these choices 🥹 Killswitch Engage's Rose of Sharyn or When Darkness falls would have been on there for me. Maybe How Can I Live by Ill Niño. Backburner by August Burns Red. Just some that come to mind 🤔
Big System of a down recommendation for the Drop C Tuning. Daron Malakian has this incedible gift to make simple stuff sound awesome. I`m a amature on guitar, so it`s still a bit to fast for me, but the bars them selfs aren`t that hard. Learning "Old School Hollywood" and "Aerials" is a joy.
Like some of the others in the comment section, I'm 38 and I grew up in the Drop C era when Job for a Cowboy, As Blood Runs Black, As I Lay Dying, August Burns Red, etc. came out. It still is my go-to on my 6-string guitars, but I still enjoy playing old-school Death Metal and Thrash with standard tuning or Eb. However, on my 7-strings, the go-to is Drop A all day long.
There must be part 2 with such iconic songs as "Oblivion" by Mastodon, "Doomsday Jesus" by Black Label Society, "Nothing Left" by As I Lay Dying, "Bones Exposed" by Of Mice&Men, "Relentless Chaos" by Miss May I, "Inside The Fire" by Disturbed, "Isolation" by Alter Bridge, "Toxicity" by System Of A Down, "Passengers" by Deftones and so on. Great video as always!
My favourite Drop C riff to play is definitely Marigold by Periphery... it looks like you're doing a lot, but is actually quite easy once you get the general pattern down

Love to See more Faceless, they have sick riffs, shame what happened about to the band though.
I've just bought the OTTO II II II II and also just sold my overdive/distorsion pedals aahahahahh thxs sounds BRUTAL!!!!
That main riff in My Curse truly is goated
My Curse is a metalcore masterpiece, absolutely perfect.

The Killswitch riff cancels out the Metallica - St. Anger riff... I guess :P
I didn't think we'd be in a timeline where Andrew plays the "My lifestyle determines my death-style" song
Oooof
Definitely surprising, but St Anger has some really great moments in a bad album.
@usaflagraybans it's not even a bad album, it's just a weird one for metallica to have written. If it was the debut album for a new band a ton of people would have loved it
St anger is really slept on. It’s got its issues sure, but honestly it has some kick ass riffs
that faceless riff has been my favorite riff of all time since the first time i heard it.
That riff completely unlocked part of my brain when I first heard it
So good. I wanted him to go straight into planetary duality II, which is also 1000% worthy of this list.
I grew up in the drop C era. Now we in the double drop C era 😂
Same lol, I feel he has too based off his song selections lol
I saw someone once say drop G is the new drop C right now
@@loganmunoz5373 yep pretty much 😂. I like the low tunings but after a certain point it kind of becomes indistinguishable in some mixes.

Not even their best Drop C riff tbh
Planetary Duality and The Common's Man Collapse have some of my favorite drop C moments ever!
Swallow the Sun has a lot of songs in drop C. They may not be the most aggressive band but their music has the crushing feeling of melancholy. They're doom metal after all.
You are a person of culture, Swallow the Sun is so good 🙏 I mentioned Draconian and Trees of Eternity in my comment. C is the perfect tuning for doom
