Guitar store employee: how much distortion do you want?
Nik: yes.
FUN METAL THINGS O.O
You almost reached the perfect djent tone
*almost*
Maybe next time
More like slam tone
Pair that with the 50 semitones down
He needed more strings and 15 semitones down
I feel like the out of focus camera really helped with the distortion experience 😂
It was literally all I could focus on
You must have a distorted sense of reality and I couldn't agree more.
yeah, now both my eyes and ears hurt 👍
At this moment Nick becomes an ultimate boss for Ichika and other Polyphias playing only clean
tbf, Polyphia uses some gain a lot of the time. G.O.A.T comes to mind
@@zekesguitarstheir new album has some heavy thall-y shit on there.
Not to mention that all the compression in the world isn’t my definition of clean

You do know there are different time zones, right? Where l live in the US is 12 hours behind China, so if l want to chat l need to plan.
You've almost reached the perfect Black Metal guitar tone. Just need to record through a headphone microphone.
Placed in a wooden shed at the other side of the fjord
Get that burzumness in there
Max treble and 144p quality
A partially submerged shed with a woodpecker randomly pecking slowly on the burning thatched roof
You have clearly expertise in sound production! Do you have video tutorials?
I did this stacking different kinds of delay plugins when I was ~17, had a buddy over at the folks as a witness when mom called us for dinner. After that, we got within 20ft of my room and it already sounded like a Peterbilt was idling in my bedroom. Opening the door was like walking inside of a diesel engine, with the positive feedback making it increasingly louder until it became deafening.
That Unholy Confessions riff sounded like it was recorded on a brick phone in the early 2000s
3 - 4 maxed out metal zones actually sounds usable ngl, kinda gets this weird, over compressed type sound (espcially doing leads) that i kinda dig in a weird way.
Not going to lie, I want to see this again but with a Boss HM2. The ultimate Swedish chainsaw
I was thinking the exact same thing.
i feel like there should be a challange for nik to write a song that includes all of the weird noises he made (the ultra low tuned the ultra high and this one ). I could imagine a breakdown for each noise. Would be interesting to see what he comes up with
YES combine this with the all the way down pitch shifted guitar paired with some pitch shifted all the way up leads
That wasn't camera focus, mate. That was distortion🤘
Indeed!
Some Swedish black metal band called, they want that tone 😂
literally
Lmao i loved this way more than i should have. There was a meme of a pedalboard with nothing but Metal Zones and it being essentially a Gate To Hell.
You made this meme a reality and im pretty sure the Apocalypse is upon us now!
Nik is absolutely killing it right now! I always look forward to his videos, much love from NC! 🤟🏼
Same here,
also located in NC!
@clenchedfistsyndrome1439 What part? I'm from Greenville, NC. 🤘🏼
@@drewharper1891 Pinehurst. Not many Metalheads here as many people move to Pinehurst when they retire lol
@clenchedfistsyndrome1439 It's a beautiful city, it's near Raleigh right?
Can you turn this into a series? I want 12 wah wah pedals next😂
The MetalZone sound transports me back to being 15 and in my buddy's room jamming and talking about life. I lowkey love hearing it nowadays
Did you have your friend turn the midsweep while you played to make weird wah noises
i always forget what a amazing guitar player nik is
3:00 that riff was beautiful
Ola: Will it chug? 🤘
Nik: Will it explode? 💥
The black metal part killed me!😂😂😂!!! It's funny that around 8 made me think of trying to tune into a metal station when I lived in the middle of the desert...and the higher you went, the further into the desert I got...
Sacrificing his hearing for metal guitar science… what a djentleman
honestly the slightly out of focus camera really added to the artistic experience
It slowly gets chunkier over time.
Also, Harmonics are the only things that come through once more gain gets added.
we have officially discovered what the inside of a black hole sounds like. thanks Dr. Nik
this editing is top tier.
thanks
That tone was audibly bearable, just felt like an LSD trip 😂
It's too bad they didn't have more slots available, you almost got to that sound I've been looking for
HAHAHAHAHA😂
HEY Nik, just popped in to say I appreciate your content ❤ Keep up and stay hydrated 😊
Made it threw till the end, love your videos Nik your vids are getting me to pick up my 🎸 again 🖤
You could probably write a song with up to 2 or 3 of these going as your "main" tone, and then get to the breakdown and blast the 12.
Like.
Riff, riff, riff, chorus, riff riff, chorus, clean ambient bridge, DISTORTION DESTRUCTION, chorus, outro.
3:32 of majesty.
Can't wait for it.
Between the camera and the metal zones this looks and sounds the way a hangover feels
I'm excited to see what more metal science Nik creates 😂😂😂
Thank you Caleb for saving our ears… also, 12 MZs kinda sounds like the Insane setting on the Line 6 Spider amp with a wah in front of it
Thank you for conducting this experiment!
honestly id watch nick just noodle on the guitar, love the metalcore riffs
It's so distorted, it's like Elden Ring's difficulty mixed with Dark Souls bosses and they had a Doom baby
Yo that riff at 2:22 was sick! Does anyone know if thats a real song or if Nik just improvised it?
I think he improvised it? he is just doing the classic 00's metalcore noises
@@JCaleb Sounds like 80s metal to me.
Peace
@@CyRanger You havn't listened to 80s metal then
@@tzon6802 I've listened to most all of it, in real time. I've played quite a bit of it (guitar), as well.
I'm also an engineer, and have been producing music for decades.
My comment/opinion stands.

Every metal guitarist need to watch this
Metalzone was one of my first pedals. I only had one though. I got the metal master from digitech not long after and have been using that once since but had a lot of fun with the metalzone
I have Digitech Hardwire TL2 metal distortion. It's like a really refined and modernised Metalzone. The chugs are awesome and it makes all your playing sound super smooth.
distortion so good the camera was never able to focus
I miss running my MT-2 through a Mesa Walkabout and 2 vintage 30 full stacks
At some point chugs started sounding like open chords and that scares me
Emily Hopkins did a video last year: The Heaviest Distortion Pedal. But you have taken it to the next level. Yes!! This is the tone I've been looking for. One that will cover for my every mistake playing guitar.
7:48 this must be how Fantano hears A7X's Life is But A Dream
But you merely adopted the Metal Zone; I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see the Axe FX until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but BLINDING!
I too had my awakening knowing nothing but the metal pedal. Except mine was a Zoom Trimetal. God what a terriblely over the top pedal that was. The EQ on it couldn't NOT destroy the sound and the distortion went from too much to something around the 4 Metalzones mark of this video. I loved it. It made me feel like a rock star. But nobody could hear me above the drummer.
Alternate title: Turning my guitar tone into static using an uncanny amount of distortion petals
As an avid slam listener, I approve
The average modern guitar setup
Not as louder as Leper Messiah (1985, James' Riff Tapes)
From 2 to 4 it was in fact very good. Warm and fuzzy, ears melting in a good way
It's gorgeous
I have never used the Metal Zone. My pedal is the Death Metal. Which I have never maxed out the settings I'm honestly afraid it's going to blow my amps up if I do. I usually keep the settings on like a 6. I'll drop down to a 4 if I want a clearer tone. Otherwise, the feedback is just unwieldy. I like a little feedback in my tone. Do that whole Eyehategod thing where they use feedback as an effect in itself. But if I'm getting feedback while muting the strings, that's too much man.
You have opened the gates of hell and now we hear all the pain that created metelheads
Absolutely love these metal science experiments
I use to gain stack two metal zone pedals man the possibilities. 😊
He don't miss (I'm still watching the preroll ads)
That tone actually works for the “low fi version of the riff before the whole band joins in” at the start of a song
Made it all the way through, fun times. First few actually didn’t sound too bad
Eventually, if you add enough metal zones, it returns to a Fender-level clean tone.
Brutal! This reminds me of "Elimate" using the OTT octagon
Him forgetting to dime them hurt my soul
Guitarist of the year
The Wii sound of death
That's about the level of distortion you need to not get copyright claimed for smoke on the water
6:14 trve kvlt
That's Tight
You will probably never read this Nik, but I would really like to see this experiment again but with a new high pass filter in between each individual instance of your metal zone plugin.
"what happens if I turn of the gate?" loved that XD
Who wouldn't want a metal zone 2 into another metal zone 2?
So freakin' sic🤘🏼🤘🏼
Still better than most youtuber guitar covers that for some reason have no mids…
Legends say that at 18 metal zones, a wormhole will transport you to a parallel universe.
12 Metal Zones remind me of that one time when i got a MXR 5150 Pedal and plugged it into my first amp (Marshall MG15CF) and forgot that i was in OD channel with gain at max. good times
"What happens if we turn off the gate?"
*Sounds of suffering*
Bro these are hard to watch 😂 i feel a sense of accomplishment pushing through the whole thing
Man, I love how crips that poster in the background looks.
I think the Entombed Left hand path album from long long ago has the most amazing distortion
That's literally "How to make industrial metal only with guitar"
48k more subs LETS SEE THAT 1 MIL BRO LFG
Controversial opinion: the metal zone actually kicks butt, but most guitarists eq profiles using it sound like one
2 metal zones sounds 1000% than 1. 1 sounds like an early 2000’s hardcore demo tape.
Man, do some covers on Lorna Shore. We need it
Thank you for the Mortician tone tutorial!
The last one sounds like I’m listening to someone listening to metal in the other room.
*sees video on recommended*
*turns volume down on computer*
*sighs*
*clicks on video*
this reminds me of when eliminate does the OCTAGON aka 8 OTT compressors(he does EDM stuff)
Nik: "Can we do pinch harmonics?"
Me: ah yes, i too love After The Burial
Surprisingly good tone with 2 - 3 metal zones!!! I expected it to be pool of mud.
2 Metal zones sounds a lot like Killswitch Engage lol, great video
1 to 3 just sounds like classic bullet for my valentine lmao
hey the metalzone was my first pedal noise gate was second 🤣
I like the out of focus camera, as if the tone is emitting radiation.
You're the best, Nik
One of my favorite experiments you've ever performed:p
5 actually sounded dope
On another note this would be cool to automate to make really odd sounds for breakdowns
From this point, 3:11 this is how I like my old-school-emo-screamo-post-hardcore to sound.
“we’re gonna keep the gate on”
