I have an 06 plate S320 with 55k miles and agree with everything Matt has said. Beautiful cars, joy to drive but they are money pits. Have spent nearly £3k chasing electrical faults, time to move it along.
I bought a 12 year-old E350 with 110k miles for £4,400. I spent £300 on bodywork and a fixed a couple of trivial things myself and now I have a car that my wife loves and it's in fantastic condition. I bought it because my wife hates my M4 and I know she likes a car that has decent ride and she does indeed love it. It's a lot of car for less than £5k.
@@TheMoisesgooner What are your main costs? I don't do a huge number of miles and so far, the only maintenance cost has been £170 to replace the DPF pressure sensor. Nothing else has gone wrong, needed servicing or worn out but I've only had it for 6 months. I'm looking forward to having to spend money on new tyres though. It's got Michelin Premacy 4s on the front, which are OK I suppose but some Chinese no-name tyres (at least I'd never heard of the manufacturer) on the back. Matt, just trying to help, I sometimes feel you flap a little when it comes to knackered turbochargers? I always think about mine on my diesel Vauxhall, I changed just the internals myself a couple of years ago with a kit from EBay for about £90 and it’s done about 20 thousand miles since including two trips to Poland loaded to the stops with a few of long hours driving through Germany at ridiculous continuous speeds with a couple of 140+mph blasts positively terrorising that turbo with no issues at all. 4.7Ohm resistor mod on the swirl flap motor for OM642 is very well documented and works very well. That engine was also used in Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD as well as many Merc models.
Hello Matt, that's a save the late Gordon Banks(sadly missed) would have been proud of!! Got to be worth doing, well done to Sam and SPR too. Does the S stand for spendthrift I wonder??😎🤣 cheers Peter.
There's something brilliant about bringing a car back from the dead. I mean imagine scrapping that car over a £2000 bill which 90% would do. Months wages for most people and just look at the car you get. Well done to SPR just shows that specialists really are just that.
Gotta replace those wheel center caps! I've had shockingly good luck with the cheap no-name sets you can get off eBay. The oldest set is 5 years old and still looking great. I think I paid all of $20 USD for them too.
I like the video ,it reminded me of the wheeler dealer days great for saving old cars and showing the cost of repairs but hard to get your money back! I would say its a good idea for someone to go down this route when keepin the car because your still getting a lot of car for the money but of course with the ever increasing ulez zones probably better going for petrol on a really positive note when your in the car game knowing someone like sam your not just getting the car fixed your getting educated on the brand.
I'm with you on using specialists, I've had a couple of JDM import Toyotas which needed a specialist's knowledge to keep properly running. The nice thing about JDM cars is that they're usually rust free.
It's wonderful to see your determination to get this back on the road. I’ve done something similar with my Merc E430. I bought it for £1700 4 years ago and recently spent £3000 because, in this consumer-driven world, it’s all too easy for such vehicles to be sent to the scrappies. 10:43
as they say its not what ya know but who ya know! ended up scrapping my merc coupe cos no garage round me knew wtf was wrong with it (same symptoms as here) marvellous!!!!
I love Sam's videos. Though I will probably never touch a Mercedes as a result of him going through all the things wrong with them in his content. His SL video was eye opening. Was very tempted by one of those.
That's an awesome car, beautiful piece of kit, not like the tosh they churn out now, someone is going to get a cracking sorted motor. Great work Matt maybe you should auction it off?

Like how this guy works, can he make it work for you or not and how much - no mugging someone off with a big bill because you look like you have the dollar or binning your car because they don't want the work
6k seems fair to me Matt it looks expensive and a lot of car for 6k and I’ll always maintain that you do more than most in getting these cars ready for sale, MOT with no advisories, wheels done, service and all the other things you deem necessary to get it ready I know for sure that traders like yourself are few and far between good to catch up on the merc cheers Matt 👍
Never drop the good habit of massive overspending! Lovely car and I would buy it even for more money, where I live a 2005 S500 costs around $27.000 (yes twenty seven) and I highly doubt is in the state you left this beauty.

It looks fabulous! A beautiful car. Genuinely interesting to hear the details from SPR. Should be a great buy for someone. Unfortunately I live in central London (ULEZ).
As I said on the first part of this car video, used to do these swirl flap motors on grand cherokees and 300c without taking the turbo off. It’s very interesting. 😂 but if the swirl flap rail is broke (brittle with engine oil leak) then it’s turbo and manifold off. All good fun 😂 also would like to know MB commercials don’t have this swirl flap I system as my sprinter does 🤔

Most of the planet could spend £2.5k on repairs, however would never achieve same level of results.
Well worth saving. It will serve the new keeper well.
It is a gorgeous piece of technology. Beautiful car. Well worth the money
Does the S stand for spendthrift I wonder??😎🤣 cheers Peter.
always great lesson not to buy a cheap used one if not for his connections, this would be way more expensive
Mate,I’m from the Netherlands and this is crazy money, 5000 will get you a Citroen C3 if you’re lucky
Just seen video of all the work SPR Autos did, on their channel. £2006 was a steal!
There's something brilliant about bringing a car back from the dead. I mean imagine scrapping that car over a £2000 bill which 90% would do. Months wages for most people and just look at the car you get. Well done to SPR just shows that specialists really are just that.
Thanks for saving that beautiful S Class
as they say its not what ya know but who ya know! ended up scrapping my merc coupe cos no garage round me knew wtf was wrong with it (same symptoms as here) marvellous!!!!
thanks for updating us matey. cheers
Love your devotion to cars and this now going to be another forward collectors classic car in the making 👍
Great job Matt, giving the car a new lease of life 😊
Lovely car luxury for bargain money keep up the good work Matt great honest videos.
Excellent video. Thanks Matt
PS your new Range Rover is unbelievable! Looking forward to a full review
Mat this car saved I bet now will outlast some of the cars on sale today that V6 engine is solid I had that engine did 246k in it the guy I sold it to has 320k on it still solid. I’m glad you saved this also we all like the joint videos this is very entertaining thanks for doing these videos. Really glad to be a subscriber
The old Mercedes are just quality 😊 my wife and our daughter both have one 😊😊😊
When you dive in Matt, you really do dive in, but it does look good 👍
Sam is merc guru as you say it pays to use a specialist. Glad you saved it
Never drop the good habit of massive overspending! Lovely car and I would buy it even for more money, where I live a 2005 S500 costs around $27.000 (yes twenty seven) and I highly doubt is in the state you left this beauty.
feel your pain! bought a c270 knew it had faults driving it home, engine and box in limp mode! put it into a merc specialist to be looked at,£1850 later perfect! on a £1200 car!!
Looks like a 6 grand car to me Matt! ❤ As you said a personalised number plate and only someone nerdy (like you 😂) would know it’s age 😀👍🏻 It’s a beautiful car 🤩
Another car saved , great stuff Matt !!
Circa £6k seems a deal. After all, the costs have been incurred at trade prices so a very decent car at a low final price which should last well. Well done for rescuing it!
Not that bad to bring it up to speed. The centre caps need doing though. Weigh up the spend with it's new value. A lot of luxe for the money
I was in Glossop yesterday and saw a very special car. It was a Toyota Rav4 which is pretty average, but this one was lifted by its plates.
Romiley Garage!
Nice car. Nice to see it saved. Have a good week. Marc from Australia 🇦🇺
All good fun 😂 also would like to know MB commercials don’t have this swirl flap I system as my sprinter does 🤔
What a gorgeous interior as well - that would win me over before even looking at the outside.
Thank you for saving this classic!!!
