  • 1010Music Bitbox Mk2 - My Hero!!!
After agonizing for months trying to use Audio Samples in my rack, I bit the bullet on a supremely expensive, but amazing module - the Bitbox Mk2 Sampler. It's so much more than "just a sampler" though, making it's steep $649 price tag almost justifiable (I say almost because, dammit, I am a cheap tightwad! :-)
After the incredible disappointment with Endorphin.es Queen of Pentacles drum synthesizer, I opted to sell that and replace it with (a slightly cheaper, in fact) true stereo audio sampler/mangler and man, has it been fun to play with. Check out the links below after watching this short intro video, and you will see what I mean.
Special thanks to loopop for the wonderful fxbox/synthbox demos :-)

I'll be here waiting for the pitched cricket ambient sounds next video. 👍

I originally looked at this module, but ended up going with an MPC One. I can appreciate the bitbox, but for the price, the MPC One took the cake for me. Combined with the ES-9 audio interface, it just has so much more functionality.
Obviously the MPC lacks CV input modulation, but I do have a 4ms STS, which can do all sorts of fun Eurorack modulation stuff and even basic granular stuff.
But nothing against the bitbox, it is undoubtedly a decent sampler though.

Interestingly, I had the BitBox and Blackbox and traded the BlackBox for an MPC One. Kept the BitBox as it integrated with my modular quite well and can sample/loop the modular on the fly.

@@stephenmarsh6746 no doubt the Bitbox has a place, and people seem to love it for good reason.
The MPC One is a great sample device, and with things like the Befaco VCMC I can trigger from within the track as well, but I wouldn't mind some more interesting mangling sampler stuff either.

I recently discovered the Bitbox sucks down nearly half an amp of power. It sucks more power than the ES-9, so keep that in mind. It should probably have it's own 4MS Pod unless you have a very robust power solution. I have TipTop Zeus bus boards, and I have had power issues like uO_C refusing to boot. Before I moved the ES-9 and sold the Magneto.

Right now, Bitbox mk2 is in the Behringer Case (5a brick, 3 x 1a “zones”). This case is my “sequencer rack” so it has minimal modules in it, but thank you for the heads up… I will double-check that Sinfonion, Bitbox and Rene 2 do not breach the 1a-per-zone limit of that case.

Yeah man, .. what a gadget, eh? Some $ to obtain .. but then, as you've said, .. look at what it can do. .. :)
Bringing in audio, or real instruments, in this kind of fashion, etc. .. it looks like a well, with a very deep bottom.

I went Elektron Analog Rhythm for my percussion, and Octatrack. The Eurorack percussion rabbit hole was too deep for my taste. Did you consider the Bitbox Micro? A Bitbox is definitely on my radar at some point regardless. BTW, my Droid ecosystem is arriving this week. I decided on that over the Sinfonion since the developer is focused on that going forward it seems. It has a mini Sinfonion circuit.

The droid stuff looks super fun, and I would no doubt enjoy dropping hours and hours into that... I enjoy my sinfonion though for immediacy and the visual feedback. But droid definitely has a huge draw, but here's into that Disting category where I get put off.

@@JeffHopkinsMusic Keep in mind there is now a GUI app and a USB interface (unlike Disting). And seemingly a fairly vibrant Discord community. So no more pulling the SD card again and again. It was the deal breaker for me prior to purchase. Worth checking out since these developments happened. I don't blame you on the Sinfonion though, I'm just very space limited.

@@mntbighker the discord group is definitely popping. I might one day go that route, but for now on hiatus.

@@JeffHopkinsMusic Another comment, is the Droid ecosystem has a flaw in that expansion can only provide gates. The CV available on the main module is all you get. If you need more CV, you need another Droid master.

@@mntbighker ah, I didn't realize that... That certainly puts a bit of a limit, I'll keep in mind.
