My Modular Journey - Season 2: Episode 22 (meloDICER)

- The Vermona meloDICER was suggested to me by one of MMJ viewers (ehtcom). What an amazing random suggestion that I now use almost every time I flip on the modular (which is daily). The melodies that come out of this beautiful device are nothing short of perfection, every single time. No off-notes. No pitch issues (unless the oscillator drifts). No fumbling around waiting for "that perfect pattern" to lock in... from power up to power down, the meloDICER provides wonderful solutions for my melody needs.
So many good videos on meloDICER. Check them out below.
This episode also marks the end of the "My Modular Journey" series. Coming up next :-) my conclusion and wrap-up and future plans for modular and music on this channel. Thank you all for tuning in this past year!

IMPORTANT: This video series is not an endorsement or a recommendation for which modular gear YOU should try. This is only my experience and the option(s) I chose to pursue. If you blow yourself up, do not blame me.
I love the melodicer, it was exactly the type of sequencer I was looking for. Stumbled across it on Tim Shoebridge's channel. Highly recommended. Thanks for posting this 👍
Recently spent 3000 to build a small starter ambient system and got this in the rig. Best decision ever, this thing is so amazing.. When you turn dice-mode off and go into real-time, its just absolute magic.. I sit back and just listen for like 20 minutes at a time.
Fellow keyboardist here, totally relate to brit prog rock and Berlin School to the core. Long live the decade of the mighty ELP moog solos, Genesis, Yes and company. Very handsome system. Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉
YES! So glad you got it and demoed it. I love this module, it feels like a secret magical module that not many people have found yet and hopefully through this they will
“Tony Banks in a Box” 🤪 Love it, so inspiring, especially for my keyboard solo cravings.
Sounds great, nicerdicer 🎼👌
You give me G.A.S. and I feel it's intentional. I'm starting to take it personally ;)
I have the week off and I've been watching a new Nerdseq tutorial series. It's really invigorating my interest in the Nerdseq. Or to be more accurate I'm using the Nerdseq with my other gear more effectively. Especially Analog Rytm.
I pre-ordered the new Instruo VCO.
I am in rehab now for my modular G.A.S. Hopefully it’s working 🤪
@@VisionsMusicGroup There is no cure. I already predicted I'd end up pushing a shopping cart full of modules begging for electricity. 😜
@@mntbighker 😂😂😂
On that day my Behringer System 55 was delivered I bought the Melodicer. It's a No-Brainer Modul, absolutely brilliant
i got the breakoutbox - im going dreadbox- Typhon here ! 😉 by the way - i swithed out all the "white key´s " with the diodes from my blue marvin - so i got more of a piano lightshow - and my blue marvin got some red lights to differ out some sliders - just having fun ,-
Sounds so sweet. No don’t go. Another sound filled season well done.
Thank you!❤I'm not going anywhere, just not buying more stuff so now it's time to make some noise. "Stay tuned for that!"
Sometimes my Melodicer and I don't get along but, a couple of dice presses later we're all good!
(and looking forward to your exploration seasons??)
hey again - great video, as usual...i was wondering if you've had any experience with a similar module/sequencer/stochastic thingy...called the SIG (Stochastic Inspiration Generator)...i have and love the SIG but was wondering if this MeloDICER has any features/functions that differ from the SIG or improve upon it?
also, one other question - when you are "working on a big patch" do you leave your rack powered on (for days?) or do you shut it off after each day/session? thanks!
Hello! I have no knowledge of SIG, so I cannot rightfully compare it to meloDICER, except to say I think SIG is deeper, more complex. meloDICER just, goes. As for big patches, any patches that take multiple days, I do not leave the rack powered on. Instead I work first with modules that have Save capabilities (like uO&c, Rene 2, Sinfonion, Pamelas, etc). I'll only add the pure chaos machines like Marbles, Turing Machine or Wogglebug at the very end when I am ready to record my masterpiece 😁

so...just FYI, a very interesting comparison. the MeloDICER has some very cool features and variables that enable the creation of pretty complex and lovely melodies. i do like it very much. however, the SIG has 4 independent channels whereas the MD has only one really (as far as i can tell so far) so while the MD can create melodies with one synth/voice/module, the SIG can control 4 with each channel having it's own settings.
if you haven't checked out the SIG, i urge you to. seeing as how you adore the MD, i think you'll love the SIG even more.
cheers!
ok, @ 11;53 you mention if hearing a note to often just "tap" melodic. After I lower its probability, what exactly do I tap? the melody button to reshuffle?
Yeah I believe what I meant there was if you are locked into Melody (light on) just tap the button to re-roll randoms after making an adjustment to the sliders. If Melody is unlit, it should immediately respond to the lower probability of the note you are hearing too much of.
Now someone needs to compare the STIG to the MeloDICER. I only have the STIG. The Melo seems more performance friendly, but STIg has 4 channels and most of the same capabilities?
I have purposely avoided SIG because it'l end up on a FedEx truck to my house :) but I believe meloDICER is way more straight forward, and 1 channel. I do love it for ripping melodies, though. SIG may be in my future, someday.
now you can get the breackout midi box for the Melodicer - thats just 2 extra secquence-lines there !
Noooo! I sense my G.A.S. accumulating... I had no idea there was an extender for meloDICER!
My Melodic won't play any more than 3 notes even if 5 sliders are all the way up... Any ideas?
The only thing I can think of are the Range sliders. Set the left completely down, and the right completely up, and see if you get a wider range. Also unplug anything going into the CV jacks (for now) so no voltage is affecting range. If you still cannot get a full scale, multiple octaves, it could be a defective unit (?)
Will do. I did notice, if I turn off the "Dice" it will play all ranges no matter how many sliders are up, so that's good.@@VisionsMusicGroup
Oh no.... Why do I watch this channel. 😂

🤣 Of course I am just kidding 🤣 but man, meloDICER can shred.
