I've just been banging my head against the octatrack for the last couple days. That interface looks is so immediate and fun. Really glad you are covering 1010 music stuff!
You can totally fix the viewing angle problem by cutting out a screen-sized square from a transparent polarised filter and placing it on the Bitbox screen. Where do you get one? People throw out old flat screen monitors and TVs these days, and almost all of them have between 2 and 4 such polarised filters behind screens to make sure the light from backlight LEDs disperses evenly. This is how I turned one of my glass desks into a giant DAW-based drum machine/sampler/groovebox, with 2 computers hooked to 4 LCD screens lying flat underneath the glass surface of the desk. Computer screen are not meant to be viewed from this angle, which is why I placed 2 polarised filters on the 2 screens that are the furthest from my line of sight. Best of all is that these screens will not interfere with touch sensitivity. I found this out by using them on my 2 27 inch touch-sensitive Planar Helium 2785 monitors I use for working in Ableton and NI Reaktors 5 and 6. Bitbox Synth and Waverazor, especially used together in a modular setup are pretty formidable synths, and their sound is very rich and fruity, making them some of my favourites.
Great demo. I'd like to hear the FX Box with a more musical example than just Bleep Blops. Everyone that demos this device doesn't use it on a master channel full song mix, DJ fx style.
This is perfect for using your modular synth with samples, because now I can do basically what I like to do on ableton to pre-prepare samples, but now I can do it on the fly, not have to plan before I do it.
As an advanced looper this looks great. But the effects seem kind of vanilla and wavetable synth seem kind of... plain. I think there's a feature where you can transfer your loop session to Ableton Live. That might be kind of cool to do some advanced chopping or processing and then spitting it back out to the looper. If there's ever another tip session on the BitBox, I'd like to see how that works down to the SD card transfers. I'm not knocking the usefulness of having the other features. They're just not as exciting as having a looper with a waveform editor within your Eurorack and not have to boot a DAW session to get that level of editing. Is there a way to do a non-destructive bounce, internally, without self-patching? Kind of a resample at the outputs mode? If there's a way to put that stuff in without stopping playback and cross-fading to the resample that might be pretty neat for those who enjoy being able to build on top of loops.
@@loopop Of course! Your videos are so informative, and funny too. If ever I'm looking at buying some new hardware, or need to get a refresh on how to use it, I turn to your channel. I also get a laugh every time.
I’ve been hot and cold on the 1010 stuff, but this video has me questioning if I might be better off with 1-2 of these over some of the deeper/more expensive alternatives in my plans when it comes to actually getting things done, maybe especially with an already decently sized system. I still wish there was more CV control on them (or midi CCs, all things considered), but getting at least one and experimenting with the different firmwares seems like a no-brainer after this video. I still have questions, but those are specific to my needs and a question for the manuals. Cheers for such an informative video!
Dammit. you are so well organised! Lengthy reviews but not a moment wasted. Does that take a huge amount of preparation or do you have some godlike power over structure and order?
I purchased one brand new from Sweetwater.com..i love it. i only used the Synthbox so far from the 3 months i had it. Never fooled around with the Bit or FX Box yet but after seeing this Video i may have to invest in a few SD Cards now...
This was really helpful, as I'm trying to decide whether to keep my Bitbox I ordered or not. You should try and produce these videos for the 1010music channel, have you asked them if they might be interested?
@@loopop I see :-) It just bothers me how companies don't bother to produce quality content for their own products, but I guess that's what you live off at the end of the day, so everyone gets what they need.
Hey, thanks for making these awesome videos. I just signed up to your patreon. I saw this video after I watched your video about Blackbox. Now I found that BitBox can actually do everything I need and would be sufficient. On the other Hand blackbox has more functions and is only slightly cheapter when I get a second hand. Do you see any advanteges of Bitbox compared to Blackbox, besides beeing cheaper?
Thanks for signing up! No advantages for Bitbox as far as I recall (I haven't used it or blackbox in a while or tracked the firmware updates for either) - except of course the eurorack format and additional connectivity/patching options.
This module kind of lacks cons quite frankly (except the screen viewing angle I mentioned) - it does so much, and is so easy to use - like I mentioned - could it have more features? Sure. But from a price performance perspective this is hard to beat.
bloody hell.. i'm 3:40mins into your video.. and , more and more (after watching you cover the BlackBox module) i see this hardware as DAMN Solid. Really juicy stuff. Sure ..ok ..it is expensive.. but is packs a lot of stuff into it. I didn't like the touch input approach for the Effects..though. To me, that's a Con_ i believe old school knobs still work better. Would u agree? Afterall, that's why one wants to get out of DAW plugIns.. Thanks for the video.
This product has been discontinued, as stated at the 1010 music website. But they have a Version 2, and a Micro version. As always, thanks for the wonderful content.
@@loopop thanks. I just finished watching it. I have the LemonDrop, and enjoy using it so much, I am now giving closer look at the rest of the lineup 😻 Have a great day
Hey thanks for the great video! I have questions. So in Bitbox mode, it looks like you changed the midi input channel on the dog barks to control it chromatically. Can you do that discretely for each panel so you could hypothetically use each sequencer channel on the betstep pro to control a different sample like that, and then maybe assign the rest of the panels to the drum sequencer for other nonsense?
Hello! Iam new to eururack staff. So can you help with organisation of this device. I want to use it for live effect unit, but with my voice. So, can i let through my vocals to be effectet by this device? And can i in real time sample my voice and stretch to 3 octave for example?
Hello Loopop long time follower here, first questions :D I bought a bitboxmk2 and i'm thinking of getting another one and swap the firmware for a synthbox. 1-Is the sequencer assignable per voice? i.e. can I have a sequencer modulating pitch of osc1 and a different one modulating lfo of osc2? 2- is it possible to route lfos or envelopes to the outputs in order to modulate other modules in my system? Thank You and greetings from Italy.
It’s a standard headphone 3.5mm trs style cable. Note that BeatStep and Bitbox use a type B connection (google type a and type b to see compatible instruments)
Very nice and very expensive module. When I saw this I thought "wouldn't this be much easier to get drums than a DFAM?". Since I have to make SOMETHING up againste my GAS I guess I keep telling myself that if I buy 10 more 500 euro models with touchscreen and menu diving it would be as sitting at a PC making music (I know it is not the same, but I have to keep myself in check SOMEHOW ;P)
I find a mixture of the two works for me. The bottom of my case I have the stuff that requires menu diving with a screen, Toolbox, Temps Utile, Ornament and Crime, Braids. then the rest of my stack is the more hands on single knob per function stuff, it all works well together.
Hi Loopop, i'm thinking about getting Bitbox module, i think it can pair pretty good with Tip Top Audio's Circadian Rhythms, having in mind for triggering several samples in a similar fashion Datach'i does with his CR and TipTop ONE samplers module, i think it's a pretty convenient way to achieve those results with just two modules, but where im not so sure, is using the Synthbox software, despites it's poliphonic, is it capable of being paired with a multitrack sequencer to have... let's say 4 voices being separatly sequenced? just like it can be done with Elektron's Analog4's four track.
hi , thanks for this great tuto , just want to know how loading the synth box and the fx box please ? Is these firmware on the 1010 music web site ? cheers
So I'm a little confused is this module still available..? or do you have to now buy the dedicated say sampler module..? I like the one module with alternate firmware on a card idea and that's what I'm after..?
Awesome, got one of these in the mail. ill just try that out. This module seems just great, a bit expensive, but as you say, theres so much functionality, and still seems fun and really easy to use. Thanks for a great demo.
I used this module during my Doom live show at the video game awards with Mick Gorden ;)
Makes you wonder what would happen if Ableton partnered with a eurorack hardware maker.

Thanks! Frankly I don't remember but you can always try on yours and swap the firmware back if you don't like it
Good review!! Is it possible resampling?
Not that I saw as an internal feature but if you plug the out into the in - sure
Hi there. At the 4:40 mark you're talking about the MIDI cable connecting the Beatstep to the Bitbox. Where can I get one of those MIDI cables from?
It’s a standard headphone 3.5mm trs style cable. Note that BeatStep and Bitbox use a type B connection (google type a and type b to see compatible instruments)
Can anyone else confirm that the sound is mono? I couldn't hear the pan effect.
Fopenplop it's stereo :)
thanks. must be my audio interface.
I can confirm that the module does stereo. I'm not sure how exactly the video was made.
For sure in stereo :) go to minute 15:55. Double checked just to make sure.
Is it possible to modulate the efx in the synthbox? Say you wanted to route lfo 1 or external lfo to the cutoff of one of the oscillators...
so I bought this version... and still confused with assigning my cv outs to control pitch of samples .. any help? How do i assign the outs to be cv?

Why a dog bark?! I have 3 dogs going mad here now :-P
3 dogs?! Lucky you go polyphonic man and sample a chord
pitch has 1/2sec delay ? :S
Not sure I understand the question?
Hi,
well... it sounds like when you tweak the pitch in FXmode there's a delay between original sound and the pitched sound. 13:15
Yes you’re right. Maybe it’s the modulation that does that
Disting MK4 x10 = what?
Actually quite different, though I *WISH* ES would make a 3X Disting with a bigger screen, that's for sure
I meant what could you do with ten distings in a row, nothing else :-)
Oh, a lot ...
No, of course I don't listen to this on my phone's speaker
