  • In this video Nick Bigelow of Patchwerks walks us through multisampling on the new 1010 Bitbox Micro. Using the Moog DFAM as a sound source Nick is able to quickly create accurate polyphonic samples which he triggers using the Novation Launch Pad Pro Mk3.
    1010 Bitbox Micro:
Bitbox micro provides Eurorack sampling for smaller racks and smaller budgets. In only 18 HP of rack space you can get a touch screen based sampler with support for 8 stereo sample pads. Now you can record samples directly into the module or load them from the microSD card. Trigger your samples via CV or MIDI, then apply effects and mix the outputs. Save your configurations to multiple presets for later reuse.

    Moog DFAM:
DFAM is the first addition to the Mother-32 family of synthesizers and presents an expressive hands-on approach to percussive pattern creation. It requires no patching, and absolutely no experience is needed for human-beings of any age to quickly begin synthesizing new and unique rhythmic compositions.

    Novation Launch Pad Pro:
Launchpad Pro is our most powerful 64-pad MIDI grid controller for producing: both in Ableton Live and with your hardware. It gives you everything you need to create and perform your tracks. Tailor Launchpad Pro to your setup, then take control of MIDI-compatible hardware and software - with or without a computer. Use Custom Modes to send MIDI commands to software and hardware simultaneously. Hook Launchpad Pro up to an all-hardware rig using MIDI In, Out and Out 2/Thru ports on 3.5mm connectors.

**Pro Tip** when using the autosampler, you can make minute adjustments to your synth settings as the samples are being captured to create even more variety, just subtle changes are all it takes to add another dimension and especially if you choose to go with velocity layers this is where it will really shine. In general, you will get more out of sampling different velocity layers and fewer notes overall, for example, even if you sample every P4 interval, the engine only has to transpose a whole step up or down to complete the chromatic scale for the range you're working in.

This has inspired me to focus more on live sampling my modular synths with my Octatrack, thank you, I'll get a video of it and share. Cheers!

it would be cool to know which firmware you guys are using.

Wow you just convinced me that I need a sampler like this and Novation launchpad for my Eurorack setup! Can you export the sample to an Ableton file easy on the SD card? Nice jam.

I thought you have a DFAM in full crazyness running and multisample all those single different noises/sounds.

Is this possible on the mk2? I thought you have to trigger notes from another device as it doesn't have midi out

I also want to know if the bitbox mk2 can do this. does anybody know?

I don’t own them but from what I’ve seen you can only do it this automatic way with the micro

Seems like a weird decision to not have midi out on their flagship module - even an option for an expander would have been welcome

Is it possible to select the sample to be played in the multi-sample with a note via CV instead of MIDI?

If you mean play the melody (bass line) via CV, yes. But naturally (I'm sure you already know) you'll need a sequencer in your setup. The only thing you can't do is play more than one note at a time using CV.

that's really nice. Can't find a way to set output 1 as CV out and output 2 as gate though. anyone knows? thanks!

@@PatchwerksSeattle Are you sure? I seem to remember that you can playback CV, but not record it - unless you just mean a note. One very nice trick I've seen used is having a wave-file modulate another parameter (either on the bitbox itself, or out to another module).
