I’m afraid to say with the water issues, lift issues, dirty balcony etc it does not say 5 star! That price should have been discounted, by apology. Having to keep having them come for what should be basic parts of a hotel stay such as hot water is really not good.
For a 5 star hotel to not even offer complimentary water bottles at the least, is poor. Even the more middle-range hotel’s tend to give water, etc.

I’m sure there are plenty of restaurants outside of the hotel that people could go to and spend a lot less, but if you’ve got a hotel credit may as well use it, I s’pose. It’s the same as when my sister stayed at the Disney resort in Orlando and I flew down from NY to meet her there and she explained how expensive the restaurants at Disney Springs were even with the meal package she had purchased, so when she moved into a Villa in Kissimmee I showed her how Americans eat as opposed to tourists😅. I have yet to stay at their flagship, iconic resort, but for what it's worth I just stayed at their new Las Vegas resort (which opened in December of last year) last month and I can honestly attest it narrowly edged out Encore as my favorite resort in all of Las Vegas.
I can unequivocally attest to their Vegas location being absolutely worth it between their gregarious, first rate customer service (I had soooooooo many delightful, jovial conversations and banter with various staff members all across the resort over my three-night stay), the feeling of freshness, vibrancy and newness permeating the resort, and an all-around genuine luxurious feel.
I feel when you have a flagship location surpassing 70 years old, it's unavoidable that it's going to show its age in numerous respects and even the most ambitious cosmetic refurbishment isn't going to mask its dated features and attributes. I'm sure at the very least it USED to be THE IT resort in Miami Beach, but even if it isn't these days I still have to tip my hat to them for how influential and gamechanging it was with such a storied history and legacy. I'm certainly not as excited checking out this resort after watching your honest reviews as always, but it's definitely a resort I deeply respect. Thanks as always for your detailed, descriptive reviews! 🙂

small tip for hotels with warm water, if you put the tap on to where its starting to get warm (not full speed) you can actually make the boiler heat up the water a little more as its flowing slower, found that in several premier inns!

It is obvious the 3 tower extensions were previously apartment buildings which explains, for one, the broken elevators. A hotel would not have the thought of renovating the elevators, like they spruced up some things in the towers, until the elevators broke down which ends up in negative reviews, It is quite pitiful to see. Tim, if you had known, I would have made the request to stay in the original “half moon” curved tower. I certainly would not be interested in staying in a 1 bedroom apartment layout hotel room. Oh Tom, Miami is not known for white sand. To truly see amazing whit sand in Florida that is so soft… you need to go to any beach town on the Gulf side (western side) where also (contrary to the east side of the state) the water is clear and aquamarine blue - another plus. Once you’ve been on the Gulf side you never want to go back to the eastern side.

I remember going to the Fontainebleau for a work conference in the mid-1980s when I lived in the Midwest and a trip to Miami was a real treat. That said, the refrigerator is a standard size refrigerator in the US. I've been to the UK three times and everytime I was stunned by how tiny your refrigerators are lol. They're so cute lol! Aside from the hot water issue, I really didn't think this was as bad as you say, tbh. And the balcony didn't look nearly as bad as some of the balconies you showed back in the UK.
