The audio in this video was recorded with in-ear binaural microphones. If you wear headphones, your mind won't be blown, but it will go, "woah, that's cool."
I'm also the producer for the Winding Road UA-cam Channel:
/ windingroadmagazine
Here on TheTopher, I'm known for putting a camera on my face and driving cars. Whether it's about any of my personal cars or reviews on weekly press vehicles, the goal is to give you an idea of what a certain car is like to drive or live with. Most of my videos are filmed in POV, with my clothes on, and (for like the 5th time) with in-ear binaural audio. Which, if I haven't made it clear yet, is why you should wear headphones. Because of the whole "woah" factor. It's there, trust me. Try it, it's pretty nuts. Or don't. As long as you whitelist me on your adblocker I'm okay with whatever you do or don't do with regards to headphone usage. That is all. Oh and I guess you should also probably subscribe. Why are you still reading this, you should be watching the video. With headphones! Hah, had to sneak that in there one more time. Later! - Авто та транспорт
Man, you will have that car for the next 20 years without any problem.
if im correct and this engine has the same engine as the parado, it will eventually have injector problems but except for that its tough as nails
wait nevermind watched some more of the vid, it doesnt have the d4d
Mitchell Jefferay the injector fails because high content sulphur and neglected change fuel filter. Here with regularly change fuel filter no problems
@@mitchell5064 no prado comes with V6 only "1GRFE"
TheBest I’m pretty sure parados come with V6s, at least in Australia they do
After checking your videos on GX460, I got myself a 2012 GX460 premium version and man its loaded and its awesome in driving and feels like a tank. I have been driving lexus for some years and I can vouch for the quality and craftsmanship. These truck last for ages if you take good care of them with very low maintenance costs. Can't get the same luxury in any other brand at this super affordable cost of ownership.
Yep, the Prado hits all of my requirements for a daily driver as well. Low NVH, reliable, tough, and utilitarian.
I have been saying for years that this car is one of the best cars anyone can buy. Even the previous gen before this one. Everyone laughs when I said those things, but slowly, I’m seeing more and more people buying this car.
My mother has one and I couldn’t disagree more. Yes, it’ll last forever but it is uncomfortable, ugly, doesn’t handle well on the highway (jerky and stiff), and in my opinion it all just feels too tight. The interior lacks modern features for the 2019 that it is, it’s overpriced, and I detest it. It has made me realize I’ll never own a Lexus other than maybe a lx570 (my grandmother owns one and it’s awesome). No disrespect, just disagree
100%! I had an 03'4runner SR5 4wd that I ran to 300K miles. Orinial engine and tranny. 4runners are awesome! However, Because they are as such........ A used one with 60K is well over 30K. Hence the reason people are looking at GX's now! Shhhhhhhhh..... Don't tell everyone until you get yours 1st!
Yup im about to buy one n prove it to my wife that her 2011 highlander is a cheap toy that rattles like cans n popcorns!
I've probably seen 150-250+ Topher videos, and that's not even including Tedward and SubTopher, and I just gotta say that I really look up to him. Not only for the cars he drives, but he seems like a really genuine and cool guy. I mean part of it is the fact that I get to see him drive all these cool cars that I would love to own one day. But it's also knowing that he gets to wake up everyday and do something he genuinely enjoys. Not a lot of people get even the slightest glimpse of enjoyment in their careers. Although I'm sure some days suck, issues happen, and it's stressful to run a business. But at the end of it all he truly gets to live. Not as someone who has to hide the soul and passion they have to just push papers for some food on the table, but as someone with an invigorated passion for the work they do and the value they provide.
I may just be seeing glimpses of his life through rose tinted glasses, but it looks like he has an awesome life where he gets to go out and drive really cool and exotic cars with his friends, and even when he isn't he gets to go to events hosted by manufacturers of the new latest and greatest cars out right now. If that isn't every 15 year old boys dream then I don't know what is. I really hope I get to make my life into something like that one day.
Anyways thanks for the videos Topher. I really enjoy them.
Great! GX/Prado is the perfect SUV. Love the understated design before the facelift royally screwed it up.
This guy needs more subscribers....your account just made me fall in love with vehicles.you'll definitely be my first car guru
Waow 😍😍 PRADO ❤❤
I just bought one of these. 118k miles, 19k. I love it so far.... such a comfortable, easy to drive vehicle. Great smooth shifter.
Great video! I’m in Detroit too, and just purchased a 2012 GX 460 from Sewell Lexus in Dallas.
I’ve been debating a lr4 and I came across this due to fear of reliability. You definitely sold me ! Thank you so much !!!
That OG winding road route
Yesszir 🙌
Im super happy you are getting some recognition, you deserve it!
Just bought a 2008 GX 470 and I'm absolutely loving it. Such great build quality. Super happy. Yes, the mark Levinson sound system is fantastic 👏.
One if the best GX reviews that I've watched cos you drive it long enough. Thanks mate.👍🏻👍🏻
Bought an 04.. loved it so much we upgraded to a 12. Love it! Echo all of your sentiments as well. Fantastic vehicle for the money and its going to drive nearly the same yrs from now. Lexus... we get it now.. oh and the dealership experience is phenomenal.
Congrats you’ve made us all proud with that beast
Thank you! Been looking to get a gx460 2012-2014 and this helped so much!
Oh no he's hot
oh no you're a guy
Alexandros Elias o no he didn’t say no homo
My thoughts exactly, Brandon.
oh no you're super gay
Was waiting for this!
I really liked this video. Even though I own a truck it's an extended cab and not really ideal for taking the family for an overlanding trip. Been looking at Lexus for a capable offroad SUV and after seeing this video I think it's now a solid plan. Thanks for sharing! #subbed
Your reviews really pushed me over the edge into replacing my 08 IS350 with a 15 GX460 Luxury CPO. Thank you.
Awesome, you’ll love it!
Nice truck! I drove a new GX460 and there’s just something about the way it drives. Super comfortable but also feels bulletproof and that it’ll run for the new 20 years without an issue. Also looking at a used 460. They’re are a great used car buy.
wow the color is awesome
Very reliable car selection you had. Great V8 engine, thirsty but reliable and can last very long with basic maintenance. Enjoy.
Nice job buying a *real* SUV and not a little CUV! And going big at that!
Next Video: I straight piped my V8 Lexus
Do you have any vids?
ghostcell030 dude u ancient
Best honest youtuber ever watch about buying this monster lexus gx460 in used
@7:27 what’s funny is, I do road trips every few months to visit family and it’s about 5-6 hours one way, to date my old 2001 Audi A6 was the most comfortable, but I had a 2002 Toyota Highlander Limited and found the leather seats to be uncomfortable, (I know they’re different seats than yours) but now I own a 2013 Accent, and the seats are amazing, I can also drive for 5 hours straight and not have to stop once.
I was waiting for a video on this, and so far I’m not disappointed, I think you definitely made the right choice on this! Can never go wrong with a maintained used Lexus!
I love your reviews and you sold my father on the new Mazda cx 5 from watching your POV drive!
Concur on everything. This vehicle has over performed my expectations in every way. Perhaps we should be keeping it a secret. :)
Bought a 2011 Premium 103k miles from Lexus of Tampa who bought it back from the original owner/leaser. Had been shopping nationally for a few months. I live in NYC and never buy here for obvious reasons. FLEW down to Tampa the day this popped up. Bought 2 Cuban sandwiches and drove it right back to NY, rapidly.
Have owned over 20 cars. Mostly German. BEST VEHICLE PERIOD. G-Wagon (still love) included. Impressed daily as I bound past traffic on our torn up city “streets”. (22k in 9 months CITY)
Oh I’m in entertainment... system is sublime.
GREAT REVIEW!
Check the F-Sport grill, it's a great upgrade for the 10-13. Also, the Morimoto LED fog lights and plug and play and really help.
I bought mine just last week. 2013 with 50k on it for 27k. Very well maintained and looks just like yours. Feels and drives solid. It’s a different feel coming from 3 series and miatas in the past haha. So very much on the same boat as you!
Overall a nice video💯, please review next the LC200💪
That is an excellent Lexus. My 2004 AWD 4runner did not have any rattles .... was driven offroad many years to vacation cabin in mountains on very rough terrain. Struts did go out @ 99k .... I put stock FJ crusier off 2009 year that had 9k miles ( bought off craigslist) still drives smooth and no rattles after all those years.
Toyota just solid.
May I make a couple of practical suggestions for coping with the upcoming Michigan winter? Do some research on Krown (with a K) Rustproofing to defend your GX from the deluge of Michigan salt. Resale is so strong on this Lexus that preserving the body for the minimal cost of Krown is a rounding error on overall ownership costs. It may also be a tax deduction. Secondly, invest in a set of steel wheels and REAL winter tires. That permanent 4 wheel drive system will NOT help you stop and you will be protecting the original alloys from winter abuse in the process. When/if the day comes to part from the GX, you can sell the winter wheel/tires separately to recoup some cash. I believe the GX has 6 bolt wheels like the 4Runner and Tacoma so new or used rims won't be hard to find. You might even locate a set of mounted winter tires that are ready to go. Happy trails!
Right Lane Hog, Great, now I won't sleep tonight thinking about that GX rusting away.
Right Lane Hog already Krowned a couple weeks ago! Definitely plan on making an annual visit. Once these trucks start to rust, they go fast. This one is pretty clean, so it’ll be great to keep it that way. I’ll see how these Coopers hold up in the snow, if not I have a cheap set of FJ wheels that’ll be perfect for snow tires.
Always take your rustproofing/winter driving advice from a Canadian. (eh?)
This advice could apply to winter in the rest of the continent! Nice tips
@TheTopher would be dope if you made a video on the Krown process for your GX for those unfamiliar
That’s rad your from Ann Arbor My family lake house is just 15min outside the city. I’ve been following all your 200series land cruiser content hope to purchase one soon. 👍🏻👍🏻. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for a great review video. Thanks to this review I began searching for a low mileage local (Tennessee for me) GX. I’m happy to say I purchased a 2010 GX460 yesterday. I found a great 1 owner with 89K. I’ve owned 2 awesome Tacoma’s but ended up with a 18 Silverado High Country most recently which was awesome. Due to a job change I needed to downsize my payment and was looking for either a used Tacoma or 4Runner. With the GX I believe I’ve found the best vehicle for me with the towing capacity the V8 offers. I am confident this truck will last many many years with the Toyota/Lexus quality. Thanks again Mr. Topher for the review and giving me the idea of looking into a GX. Good luck with your GX.
The new GX is bad ass, ain’t nobody flying around corners in this.
You sold me on this! I want a GX for my next car!
Really nice ! I bought a 2000Jeep Cherokee in 2007 with 100k miles for 10k and was fine next 10years this thing is just breaking in
Dad had a 2006 a few years back and had to get rid of it because of rising gas prices, you'll love it!
My is 2005 still running solid
it's a prado with a v8...awesome car
Thanks for this video, about to buy a 2009 GX 470, but now have been looking at the GX 460.
Do iiiitt
I have a 2004 gx470 with 263k oil changes every 5k for 35 bucks is all i do ever to it
.. still stronger then most basic 2018 or 2019 cars
Congrats
I couldn't agree with you more. I just purchased a 2013 base model with the comfort package with 89K miles on it. It drives and handles better than any other vehicle I have owned brand new. The fit and finish is impeccable. I was advised to have the timing belt/chain changed at about every 100k miles. Cost is around $1500. It really is a beast and I love it. My only criticism is that the rear wiper could be better. My BMW X5 had a larger sweep pattern on the rear glass. From a styling perspective, the front grill is better looking than the 2014 models with that horrendous spider spindle grille.
Wow. You hit all three vehicles I was considering. 4runner, taco, fj. I’ve been doing my research and glad you were in the same boat.
Be careful, the test drive sold me on the spot!
Late model Lexus/Toyota vehicles have to be in park in order to use preset seat memory. The control module will save the setting you input while out of park, but in order for it to adjust, you have to be parked. It is a safety override to prevent a driver from losing seat position and control while moving. May not be broken at all. Also the squishy sounding brake pedal is normal. It is equipped with an electronic brake actuator/accumulator. That is a normal noise for the pedal stroke sensor that senses pedal input.
Watched a few videos from you. Very good reviews! Just one little advice for you is that you could always use your left leg first to step up and into the car. Left hand hold the top bar and left leg step on to bottom support. It will be lot easier and cooler to step in. Idk if I explain clearly!
For the memory seats, try it in park. Some cars won't allow you to change the memory seats in gear.
Great video, as always! I got a 2014 GX460 back in December, and I absolutely love it & completely agree with everything you said. I noticed the same thing about the brakes, that little dead zone at the top can be a little bit unnerving, but it seems to be pretty common with them from what I can tell. As far as gas mileage goes, are you running 93 octane? Your MPG seems to be 3-5 MPG better than what I'm getting, but I've been running 89 octane, as that's what 2 dealerships have told me is acceptable. Looking forward to seeing more with the GX!
nice vid on the lexus!👍👍😃
Ilove those white wall tires! getting those for my gx460!
Awesome 😃 👍 2012 Lexus GX 460 review .
That car is amazing!
You're a man of taste!
Ryan Patterson tasty man*
Not a soccer Moms car, it amazes me as a European that a lot of Americans don't realise that its a Land Cruiser Prado 150.
I've noticed how you fell in love with this model when you reviewed it. Also, stay away from Tyler Hoover, he will buy it from you and drive it over a river! :D
looks almost perfect! just need a spare tire on the back and a front bull bar! maybe buy them from Australia or something since these are essentially a toyota prado they have heaps of aftermarket support.
Nice congratulations
One of the best test about car
Great vid
My 2013 Lexus GX 460 is awesome. I bought mine with 90K miles for @ $25K last year. Couldn't be happier. Best bang for the buck I could find after months of searching.
Great video. I also live in Michigan and was torn between the GX and the Escalade to get through my winter commutes to and from Livonia. I ultimately chose the Escalade because the GX didn’t come with remote start and the Escalade got better gas mileage without requiring premium fuel and seemed to offer a quieter cabin ride. I think the GX had a better ride quality (I tend to like a floaty ride), I miss the manual shift option, and I know the GX will have a better resale value. Fortunately, both trucks came with heated steering wheels and seats. Looks like a great GX, Enjoy man!
I bet you regret your decision.
Toyota is king sir.
Great vid man! Just bought a 2012 GX 460 with 140k miles, 1 owner ( my friend) for $18,000. Blue book value was closer to $25,000. Any maintenance or service suggestions I should do it? It was maintained religiously at the local Lexus dealership.
I was in the same boat as you. Coming from a Hemi Jeep Commander I wanted the same type of truck. V8 SUV with 4x4. The 4runners were looking nice but researching the GX ,They all had the same v8 and AWD as well as the same reliability of the toyota. It ended up looking like the v6 and plain interior did not seem worth it for 2014 yr range money. I found a 2013 with 48k miles for less than $30k. I wasn't even ready to buy since I just started looking, but I closed on my 1st visit to the dealership.
Nice Speedmaster.
I just traded my 2014 IS350 for a 2012 GX460 premium. Totally different game, but I am amazed with this SUV. All of my friends, including the sales person were confused with my radical change and why I went with an older vehicle. It’s simple to me...The GX is the right vehicle for me right now and I can see myself happy with it for many more years to come. The only other SUV that I would have loved to have is an early 200 series Land Cruiser or LX570. Unfortunately, it’s hard to find one with low enough miles to get financed. My 2012 was a certified Lexus and came with a solid warranty from my local dealer. Thank you for putting this video together, I feel you’re right on point.
Wow that's crazy! Going back on older model than 2014! I've had 01 RX and now ES330, I'm thinking of GX460 2014 or up! But then I see this review and then your comment, I got confused what's going on lol. Is it because the older lexus gen. is better than newer ones or just by random selection?
A. Muhammad not random at all. I actually did some research and put in some thought into this purchase. I wanted to get a solid vehicle for long term use since I have some light overlanding and off roading plans. My ideal purchase would have been a Land Cruiser or LX570, but the ones I wanted were out of my price range. The 460 would be great IMO. Good luck with your choice.
Congrats Chris! It’s a beast! Thanks always for the great POV content.
Side request: Could you please share this trusty Mechanic? I’m looking for a good one that is affordable as well in the southeast Michigan area. Thank you!

John the service writer is a good friend of mine, tell him I sent you!
Just found a super clean 2013 GX premium. Pearl white. I can’t say enough good about it.
What kind of gas do you put ? Regular ?
What a great looking man
It's worth it. Right?!!!! It’s such a pleasant surprise.
Stock vs the one with Air suspension? Thanks man, your inspiration really made me want to get this SUV!
How are the ventilated seats ? Awesome vid. I have a 5th gen 4Runner trd off road. And I love it. But I want this now
The interior looks like our 2017 gx460 premium lol
2009 & onwward all have the same interior style with different colors. The center console has some updates on the current gen. I noticed in the 2017 model that there is slightly more room for the driver. (seat went back farther, more side to side space. Less bucket seat.
I just purchased the 2018 and it looks exactly the same.
What is the difference on the center console? I wish the console deep in was more functional and organized. The mini upper tray slides all over the inside.
@@eg4449 You can remove the upper tray.
Lexus GX 😍
It aged pretty well. Sweet deal!
To use the memory seats you have to be in person. You probably already know that but I had that issue on my IS F where I thought it wasn't working.
Damn, Topher! I’ve never seen your face before. You’re a handsome, dude! I’m pleasantly surprised. Came for the car reviews, staying for your looks. All gayness aside, keep up the good work. This channel is great!
(Yes, gays watch car channels too.)
Toyota Land Cruiser Prado versión Lexus! ... Que hermoso!
It sounds like you went through the exact same thought process that I have been. I found a really good deal on a 2012 GX with 52k miles, one owner, Florida owner, for $24k. The only challenge is it has the ecru interior (I would prefer the sepia). What color is your interior? ...does anyone else have one with the ecru, and if so, is it a pain to keep looking decent? I do a lot of outdoor activities, etc.
In Guatemala the name of This SUV is Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.😍
The interior looks much like newer ones wow
Is it better to have the air suspension premium model? Is it a reliable suspension. ?
I have a 2012 base 64 k miles it’s awesome suv
15:08 when you see another miata but you've sold yours
Pretty funny, he even looked over at it as it was going by so he noticed it.
I have a 2010 so a little biased but honestly the 10-13 GX has a timeless design. The front end on 2014+ is horrid and reduces approach angles badly.
This is my daily, and never a hiccup. Just installed a 2.5 inch Toytec Aluma Series BOSS lift and it rides even better now, good stance too! Very capable and reliable, attractive machine.
Just watched another video that mentioned a transmission flush helped smooth out his cruise control shifting and obviously the overall driving of the car.
Yep, after the second drain and fill it helped a lot. About to do a third
TheTopher Thanks for the info, good to know. May be buying one this weekend!
Sweet, good luck!!
I bought my 2005 Lexus GX new at Meade Lexus Southfield. Still driving it.
Sweet!!
Damn lexus built quality is great , i will do the same if i want a used luxury car i would go with lexus
Congrats! My grandparents recently traded in their '08 GX470 with 120k for a Tacoma
I would really appreciate if you do a video on LX 570 2012-2105 model and compare with your GX 460.
Being essentially the same car as the 2020 ones, this 2012 looks so much better with its simple front end.
So funny, I've been shopping 470's and 4runners... but am getting frustrated with finding a good one. Just recently though hmmm maybe I just get a newer 460. OF COURSE my fave dude, thetopher bought a 460!
That’s exactly where I was this time last year lol I looked at so many 4th gen 4runners, they were either rusted out or beat up, and I didn’t have any luck with a 470. The day I bought this I had just test driven a base model 2013 FJ, it was the same price. It took me one block of driving the 460 to be sold!
The Topher, was your transmission fluid changed before you bought your truck? Thinking of changing my transmission fluid on my 2012 GX that I just bought with 100K.
The best car for hold it for many years
I purchased a use one of these 2 weeks ago. You mentioned the memory seat not working (while you were driving)... have you tried it whrn you are at a full stop? 😉 because it seems to be a Lexus safety feature (seat memory not moving while driving)
PS oh yeah does that truck pull at higher RPMs, on the spec sheet i believe it says peak hp/torque at 5500?
Some weird stuff going on. I buy a 2014 BRZ, I find your channel. Then I sell at the same time you did. Then I bought an S2000 (I predict you will too), and now I’m thinking about pulling the trigger on a 2012 GX. And then I see you’re wearing a speed master, the watch I was just looking at this morning (the new one just came out). We have the exact same taste.
I believe it's a wise choice. There's also RX350 which I'd buy. May you film the same test drive of Nissan Murano 2009-2013?
Could the memory seat issue be a fuse? Or did you already check that?
Night ride is my favorite thing
