Vojtech Merunka is one of the creators of the Interslavic language. Together with Jan van Steenbergen and others, they constructed a language that is supposed to be understood by all Slavic people. In his video, Vojta answers Norbert's questions and explains the idea behind the project. He does it all in the Interslavic language so you can experience it by yourself. In this video you'll learn the answers to the following questions:
Who are the creators of the Interslavic language?
How was the Interslavic language constructed?
What are its common uses?
How did the Interslavic language make it to the Painted Bird movie by Václav Marhoul?
How did the work on the movie look like?
And more.
Special thanks to Michał Swat for the transcription! 🙏🏻

Hej! Czy będeś uczyć się ten język?
I'm Russian and I understood 98% of Interslavic. I think it must be teached at schools in any Slavic country.
Если не в школе обучать, то хотя бы ввести язык в Гугл переводчик. Это уже было бы прогрессом
@Solve Everything what do u mean 'even Russian understand'? Of course we do. It's interslavic and Russian is slavic language:)
Ja se slazem
@Solve Everything

Although there is a theory that Montenegrin Slavic assessors came to Balkans from Poland, languages are so distinct today, especially the way of pronouncing, that are not mutually intelligeble. Здравствуйте, друзья!
This is fascinating! I'm Korean and I speak croatian and understand some slovene. Funny thing is, not only I have almost no problem understanding Interslavic but also I have impression that I understand interslavic even better than croatian spoken by many croatians (especially people speaking their dialects)! Native speakers always develop quite specific way of speaking the language. They speak fast, they don't necessarily articulate and use slangs, jargons and dialects. I think Interslavic can put everyone on the equal ground, slavic language speakers as well as foreign learners. I will never speak croatian like a croatian, but I think, with proper learning of course, I could manage speaking Interslavic as well as any other interslavic speakers! I imagine one day I will be able to visit all these diverse slavic countries and communicate in Interslavic with everybody without help of English, that would be amazing!
I'm Polish, and can in some way understand what he's saying in Interslavic. Although I'm able to kind of figure out many to most of the words, It proves slightly difficult. This I believe is because he's from Czech right?
On the other hand, there is another channel which also utilises the Interslavic language, but the host is Polish. That makes it a lot easier to comprehend and decode.
I wonder if it's just the pronounciation, or maybe the word choice.
I would like to add that slovak and czech is quite easy for me to understand, but Interslavic is easier. Even the way he's speaking in this video.

I can understand you. However I'd like to mention that Kurdish and Our Altaic languages such as Azerbaijani and Turkish cannot be compared. I don't like Kurdish language. Because it is kind of minority language unless you live in Iraque.
@Ktuana Please tell what are main similarities between Kurdish and Slavic, give some examples. Since I knew Kurdish has much in common with Slavic, I tried Google translator for that reason, but unlike languages from Indian peninsula Kurdish language does not provide transcription in Latin letters, so unfortunately Google translator remains useless to me.

I'm strongly considering learning this language. As a native English speaker who also speaks German, Spanish and Portuguese, I have been thinking about learning a Slavic language for some time, mainly because I love the sound of them and I want to travel in Eastern Europe. However, it is hard to chose one. I thought about learning Russian but I heard that not all Slavic people are happy speaking it (nor can they all speak it, just as not all Europeans can speak English, of course) because of the Soviet past. Interslavic seems to be a great compromise - intelligible to all Slavic language speakers, without the baggage and history of a national language, politically neutral and potentially very useful to many people. I really must congratulate the team behind it - great work!
Not very popular one - Slovak. Read a bit about it! Slovaks natively understand the most of Slavic languages, and are understood the most amongst Slavs. And it's not a dead, artificial lingo like interSlav here.
As a native Polish speaker I can tell you - never had a problem understanding it.
@@pgruszewski I'm not sure you do understand what a definition of a dead language is; Interslavic definitely does not fit into that definition.
Amazing Im totally with you on this one.
It's an interesting idea and I would love to learn it, but I decided to learn Polish. Because there are far more resources on Polish and I have a Polish friend. But I will definitely look into learning interslavic when I am pretty fluent in Polish.
@@pgruszewski Modern Slovak language was cleverly adjusted and mixed a bit with czech, not that long ago. Maybe that's why we can understand a lot and other slavs can easily understand us, because our accent is very weak and we mostly speak super clearly. And when you research, you find out that bulgarian( therefore macedonian too) and slovak are the two languages most similaro to the original old common slavic language.

Vojtech Merunka has done a perfect job.
What a beautiful project! I’m from Poland and I feel like an idiot every time I talk in English to Czechs and other Slavs. It’s just weird to speak some strange franco-germanic language with people who speak languages very similar to my own. It would be easier to use Russian as inter-slavic language as most older people in Eastern Europe have learned it at school. However, a lot of people would complain about some theoretical Russification, so I hope inter-slavic language will become popular. The West is like a house of cards. Soon Eastern Europe will be the only Europe left and we will need to have our own union and our own means to communicate.
AdamArsenal888
I don't like calling them "germans". I know it's official, but I think it's a lie. They are anglo-saxons. They steal the land and then appropriate its name for themselves (Germania, Prussia, America). This is also the reason why English should be abandoned. We've never been colonizers.
Slava!
Objectively, Russian is pretty far from the center of Slavic languages. To a pole or a czech it is not immediately intelligible the way interslavic is.
@1esingle IMO the beauty of it is that it does not need to be widely accepted to be useful or successful. Learn it, travel in Eastern Europe and you will be understood everywhere.
@@ltu42 what a great idea!

It was funny, because I tried to speak in English with polish people and they usually had difficulties to undestand English (except some young people in Warsaw). Then just I turned into Russian. And I was really surprised, that for polish people Russian language is much more understandable. Moreover! Completely without any knowledges of Polish I could understand the most of Polish people said to me!!! That was really amazing!
After that trip, visiting Poland I always try to speak Russian, but also I got many Polish words, so my level of understanding Polish significantly increased)

It's a kind of magic. As a Bulgarian i understand well above 90% of the interslavic speech. Even though Bulgarian has always been the odd one in the slavic family. 😝
@Solve Everything yes building up a common language for all no matter from in Europe they are was a main goal here I think.
to Bulgarian it sounds a bit too archaic , but without the explicitly Polish/Russian pronunciation and gender declination (-evo /-nogo/ -togo) it will sound like old Bulgarian
