I have a 3/4 inch siphon tube attached to a "shaker pump " that is little more than a brass fitting, that goes in the source tank. By placing the source tank in the same manner you did the siphon will begin by just shaking the the fitting a little. It will transfer nearly as fast, with no batteries, and it cost about $10. I use one on my bass boat when I haul in extra gas in tanks just so I don't spill gas on the dock. It stores in much more compactly too. Nice video.

That syphon certainly worked a lot better than I expected. I'm not far off taking delivery of my Kubota and I spotted immediately the challenge I would face refuelling. One idea I have is to place a plank between the arms of the loader for the diesel jerry can to sit on while I pump it into the tank.

Update to my previous comment, you need to use a five gallon bucket, set it upside down on the floor to the left side of the seat if you are setting on the seat, the hose of your pump will easily reach your gas tank and the pump has plenty of power to pump the gas to your tank. It is a lot easier to lift your gas can two feet instead of lifting it all the way up to your hood. Hope this helps!

I have one similar to this from Harbor Freight that was about $8.00 with the 20% of coupon. However, I seen on Amazon they have one for about $60 that looks to have a 6-7 foot hose, so you can keep the 5 gallon tank on the ground! For me, eventually, that will be the best!

  • @garywilson1785

    Danny,
I'm a little older than you with some of the same physical issues, and I have an L2501 with the same fuel tank position so pouring from a 5 gallon can is not a good plan. Thanks for the info on the pump. That will make life easier for me.
This might help you out. If you put the towel behind the fuel filler cap and over the instrument pod, you can put the fuel can there. Then you can stand on the left side floorboard instead of balancing on the front tire.

I have somewhat the same issue. I have a diesel barrel but it has a hand crank pump. I am going to be checking into an automatic nozzle because try as hard as I may, I ALWAYS run it over and then I have to deal with cleaning up the mess on the hood. You are so right about the thin paint. All brands are like that now. I still have my 1970 John Deere diesel that is the original paint. The tractor has been maintained well but it has over 4000 hours of working out in the sun. If you have seen my videos, you will see that the paint is still really good on the big Deere. The Kubotas seem to fade rather quickly and turn to a weak shade of pink. Yuk!

Danny a gallon of diesel weighs approx 7 pounds, so that 5 gallon container full would be approx 35 pounds not counting the container. My tractor has the same tank location so I have switched to 2.5 gallon containers. Other then lifting that 5 gallon container you found a good way. I like the overfill shutoff feature.

Hey MR. Danny, I have two of those for water and gas, they are very cheaply made, but work great I just make sure I don't pull and tug on it and then I put it back in the box, if I'm not going to use it for awhile than I take battery's out... This is the second set I have had and they both went in the same place. up by the handle the thing where the battery's goes, the hose part cracked on both of them the hose are very cheep but these ones I don't pull and tug and they are still going well over a year now. Have a blessed day you Ms. Wanda.

I like the idea of the pump, though cheap looking (longevity). But the first thing that struck me is the only step the pump eliminated is tipping and holding the can for the time it takes to refuel. Why don't they make a little stronger pump motor, with a long enough hose to leave that can on the ground beside the tractor? For anyone with neck/back/leg issues, or balance issues, still standing up and teetering on the tire is not a help...plus hefting a 5+ gallon can of diesel onto a painted hood, which is not flat, and possibly too high to heave up there, only "helped" the tipping the can part of refueling. Let us know how this works out...good in theory

Danny, try getting a good flow going with the pump running, then turn the pump off and see if it will siphon the fuel into the tank. If it works it sure will save a lot on batteries !

  • @roflstomps324
    @roflstomps324 5 років тому

I think it is a great pump. I do use a can though. The can I have has a special tab on the neck that allows you to stand it on the hood, ass up, and you just press a button and it drops the diesel into your tank so, so fast. I usually just sit on the seat with my arm outstretched and my finger on the plunger button.

Another option, which I've used in the past with tanks like yours, which are purely a way for manufactures to cheapen their manufacturing costs,is a yellow plastic can at tractor supply that has a small spout with a button on it. The can, can be laid on tractor hood with spout over filler neck and you just push button to fill. No batteries, nothing to go wrong. I wonder how that pump will work in cold weather, as the fuel thickens. You might want to get some Power Service anti gel, it also has lubrication additives. Today's low sulfur fuels, don't have much lubricity in them.

For $80 from Amazon you can get a 12 volt pump with ten feet of hose and a fueling nozzle. No need to lift the jug. I have to set the jug on the ground and turn my truck around to clip the power cable to my battery. If I added some more wire I could leave the jugs in the truck and just back up close to my tractor.

Depends how long it will last. If you cant do it more than 3 or 4 times then it will get expensive fast. Keep us updated on how long it keeps working. if it refills the Kubota 20 times that makes a gal of diesel only 20 cents more. That might well be worth it.

I think they also put the fuel tank there because then the fuel pump doesn't have to work as hard to pump the fuel. Cause it's practically gravity fed.

Do you think the Batteries would be able to pump it again ? Need to see how long the Batteries last?? So as a prepare you have that knowledge of how many pumps you get out of a set of Batteries?

Our Kubota doesn't have a screen either. We use a funnel with a screen built in. Ours has the fuel cap beside the seat.

They do work but they ware out often, batteries die quicker if kept in cold during winter. Still I'm happy even if it costs up to a dollar, instead of having to lift the weight. Mine says not to pump above the height of the pump.

Danny, I lay a board across the loader arms and rest my fuel can on that rather than on the hood of the tractor.
