You can hear Maynard on this better than you can hear Layne on Opiate but either way, it makes me happy to know these bands collaborated on more than a couple occasions. They’re both so great.
1993 for AIC, Tool and RATM was pretty wild time because of Lolla and more often then not two of the three would often share the same bill. Zack pop in doing a spoken part for Bottom, Maynard & Danny would always appear on KYE, Layne guested on Opiate a couple of times or just be off to the side watching Rage perform. But all would hang out together if they were ever on the same bill and check out each others sets.
Very on point with this comment. We are so Lucky Maynard's talent and passion wasn't mangled by addiction. I feel very blessed to have seen Maynard 27 times since lateralus came out in 2001. Everything Maynard has put out is straight ground breaking & saturated with passion & at times Maynard's humor.
Right on true fans know without question, I lived at a time where I got to see them play live at 8 different shows. Layne Staley and Maynard have distinct voices and complimented each other just as good but different from Layne an Jerry. Great times.... this current age has no soul.
Who would doubt it’s layne? Haha swear some people man…. Grew up w these two bands also.. Tool is my hands down favorite. Alice In Chains in my top 5. The first ever cd I bought was dirt in fact
Wow, I'm a 30 year OGT. I have never thought about this possibility. Oh, I am also a layne stately fanboy out the yeah, yeah. My channel has 21 tributes to layne, and none of them mention anything about the negative. So thank you for just making me think about this. I will say that Mr Staley there that gets us so much crap for, you know, his condition and all and how messed up he was at that performance. All I gotta say is OK, well, he still gave one of the greatest performances in rock and roll history about to fall off a damn bench and bad and in bad health. Like you say, and misses some teeth. So what does that say about everybody else? Lol. That usually shuts them up.
I don't know if it's just the recording, but Layne sounds like he's in tough shape here. His voice just might have been shot from being on the road, though.
maynard also did a live performance with tori amos...but man its like hard to enjoy cuz of loud drunk screaming girls!!!!!! they've ruined many concerts for me already as is...anyway they sing gorgeous together...wish i had a copy of it without screaming girls

@@dantemack88 it's suppose to be KYE for Know Your Enemy.
Tool released soundboard version Opitate, where you can hear Layne
So glad Maynard wasn't lost like so many other genius musicians from this era. He has produced an unbelievable body of work
Maynard is incredible wish Layne was still here

His discipline and self control.

You can definitely hear jerry too and immediately tell it’s them
MY TOO FAVORITE BANDS AS ONE
Same!! You have great taste!
Maynard's doing some backing. Listen to 6 mins in - that's unmistakably Maynard.
Goosebumps!!! Just beauty!!!
This is amazing.. 2 of the greatest
It would have been amazing to see/hear tool on mtv unplugged back in the day. Sing songs like jimmy ,bottom, 4°, ect
Absolutely! Why didn't they ever do unplugged???
I'm OGT and a huge fan of MTV Unplugged but Tool during those years would have never done anything mainstream. But it would have been awesome!
@@Sindollx666x They barely even played Tool on the Radio

I like it. It sounds even more Layne-ey than if it were studio
It happens to every rock singer
Yeah even by ‘93 his addiction was taking it’s toll
I think he sounds incredible and just to be able to hear the beautiful powerful Layne Staley front his band one more time is enough for me😢😔

believing is seeing:-)
Is that Layne talking?!? If it is it sounds nothing like him
Sara Bolzman it's Jerry's dad talking. It's at the beginning of the rooster music video
Corey Anthis no i meant at the 1:00 minute part
Ohh that's Layne I think he was just drunk and maybe slurring a bit by haha
It's Layne, lol. No doubt
Sara Bolzman His speaking voice may have been shot from being on the road.
i cant hear maynard
Might just be doing the backing vocals here ?
in headphones I can hear him in behind Layne's voice. Especially in the second and third chorus
