Did the children appear to be in distress or afraid? Did they try to make eye contact or was their body language suspicious in any way? How insulting is it to have a stranger approach you in this way. Her sole reasoning being race. Were they crying or attempting to escape the vehicle? This woman unnecessarily put those children in harms way. She said, "and if I'm wrong, that's great." She had no idea how the police would respond to this call. This situation could have gone south real quick, and then what? We have seen enough video's of people losing their life over less. Losing their lively-hood over less. Losing their freedom over less.
It's shameful. In this whole situation, she was the one to cause distress, fear, and suspicion. The kids themselves were afraid that they'd say something wrong and get Mr. Lewis hurt. 🌸 my poor mother had this issue while I was growing up, my dad (rip), was European, blonde & blue eye my mom black lady brown eyes. When my brother was a baby & later a child he was very blonde & later golden brown with blonde streaks in his curls. I was blonde as a baby & red head as a girl. We were both very pale and like I said my mom had very dark skin. Sadly my dad died a week before I was born. Whenever my mom took us out in double strollers or seen with us people were always asking her about us like we were someone else’s children. If she picked me up and cuddled or kissed people called authorities etc. My mom had to once prove she was mother of my older brother & social services was called etc. My mom’s solicitor was livid, my dad’s old buddy. My mom was a qualified RMN nurse in a psychiatric unit & ward sister. She wasn’t a criminal and never deserved the prejudice remarks or funny looks she got over the years. When I got older, people sometimes thought we were a couple of different ages, WTF 😡, so I had to say mom very loudly to stop the nasty words or comments. Like if we can’t possibly be mother or daughter, absolutely outrageous. All I did was hold her hand as she got blind later on & I had to guide her, people can be so judgemental & nasty. I’m so glad as I got older my hair darkened but I prefer to hide the red & dye it black instead, just to look like my precious mom (rip) plus I tan better too 😊✨
My family was like that but flipped. Mom was white and dad was black, and siblings and I were somewhere in the middle with pretty obviously black features. People used to come over to her and comment how cute we were, which was fine, but then ask where she got us. Or ask if we were adopted or fostered. Considering where we lived, which was in farm country, a ton of older folks assumed we were "fresh air kids" or kids from the city who stayed with families from the country for the summer. Was super weird. Fortunately, mixed families are a lot more common now.

How insulting is it to have a stranger approach you in this way. Her sole reasoning being race. Were they crying or attempting to escape the vehicle? This woman unnecessarily put those children in harms way. She said, "and if I'm wrong, that's great." She had no idea how the police would respond to this call. This situation could have gone south real quick, and then what? We have seen enough video's of people losing their life over less. Losing their lively-hood over less. Losing their freedom over less.
It's shameful. In this whole situation, she was the one to cause distress, fear, and suspicion. The kids themselves were afraid that they'd say something wrong and get Mr. Lewis hurt. 🌸 my poor mother had this issue while I was growing up, my dad (rip), was European, blonde & blue eye my mom black lady brown eyes. When my brother was a baby & later a child he was very blonde & later golden brown with blonde streaks in his curls. I was blonde as a baby & red head as a girl. We were both very pale and like I said my mom had very dark skin.
Sadly my dad died a week before I was born. Whenever my mom took us out in double strollers or seen with us people were always asking her about us like we were someone else’s children. If she picked me up and cuddled or kissed people called authorities etc. My mom had to once prove she was mother of my older brother & social services was called etc. My mom’s solicitor was livid, my dad’s old buddy.
My mom was a qualified RMN nurse in a psychiatric unit & ward sister. She wasn’t a criminal and never deserved the prejudice remarks or funny looks she got over the years. When I got older, people sometimes thought we were a couple of different ages, WTF 😡, so I had to say mom very loudly to stop the nasty words or comments. Like if we can’t possibly be mother or daughter, absolutely outrageous. All I did was hold her hand as she got blind later on & I had to guide her, people can be so judgemental & nasty.
I’m so glad as I got older my hair darkened but I prefer to hide the red & dye it black instead, just to look like my precious mom (rip) plus I tan better too 😊✨
My family was like that but flipped. Mom was white and dad was black, and siblings and I were somewhere in the middle with pretty obviously black features. People used to come over to her and comment how cute we were, which was fine, but then ask where she got us. Or ask if we were adopted or fostered.
Considering where we lived, which was in farm country, a ton of older folks assumed we were "fresh air kids" or kids from the city who stayed with families from the country for the summer. Was super weird. Fortunately, mixed families are a lot more common now.
Thanks for sharing this, I guess we can all be like the ones that made you and your mom feel uncomfortable. I’ll remember your story so that I avoid hurting anyone.
My mom (full blooded Indigenous) as well, with my brother (same mother different fathers) whose half black got accused that she had kidnapped him in grocery store. Cops wouldn't let her leave without proof, my father had to go down there with the birth certificate to provide proof. Apparently it wasn't the only time either. This was back in the '80s
