How can it sound like anything you don't have anything more than one man's word. CBS does no one any favors with this bad reporting. Where is the police body cameras? Is there any footage? They didn't even ask Massey if he said it let alone see if there is any body cams of the incident....and so far I've not found any full video anywhere from Massey showing even all of what he recorded. It may not show the initial exchange but there's nothing in what they've shown that supports his allegations. Over a period of more than a decade I fostered kids mostly of color. We had about 4 incidents I believed were racially motivated in that time all of which were addressed quickly and correctly. And in truth raising my kids in a very white community the experience was overwhelmingly great in the sense the kids were judged by their character not the color of their skin. No one will come to our family to hear about how the kids are doing great in the middle class. Heck, one of the kids is now a cop in a tiny department. His older all white more experienced cops made him their guy representing them in union negotiations. But the media has their narrative and in this case they didn't even really try to get to the truth.
Rob Dewey you could possibly be right but this is a typical experience for quite a few blacks especially men of darker complexion. Until you live in the skin you will never know the struggle.

@coptic777 I dont know if rob is on drugs lol...maybe just clueless about this. But why is rob trying to justify the behavior of Earl and the cop in this??? Why asking for "proof"??? Why would he not ask Earl for "proof"??? Cause you KNOW Earl has no proof that this hotel guest who PAID to be there did anything wrong by just talking on the phone!!!
Matthew Vantress The fact he raised his voice and demanded to be left alone after producing proof he paid and was a guest says a lot about the rental cop. The altercation could have been avoided if he wasn’t targeted in the first place.
Matthew Vantress how did he violate a single rule? He was taking a phone call in the lobby WHILE BEING A GUEST AT THE HOTEL. This man did literally nothing wrong, he was discriminated against because he was black it’s sad.
HOMESTEAD HEART he can't, Doubletree has a binding arbitration clause in its contract with guests, SCOTUS held that private arbitration is mandatory even if a party does something unlawful, like violate that man's civil rights in this case, private courts to go along with private prisons are a-ok with the CONservative SCOTUS majority, private contracts are superior to our Constitutional rights in their view
What's he going to file for? This was all standard protocol through and through. The hotel is private property, if you're asked your room number, or if you're a guest staying in the hotel, and you can't prove that to the person asking, while lounging with your feet up on the couch as shown in the full length video, you're going to get asked to leave. If you refuse, they have the right to trespass you from the property and to have the police remove you. The police's job at that point is ONLY to remove you from the property. Not to investigate, not to find out who is wrong or right, not to resolve a dispute. You're on private property, its the law.
@@BrianC7777 Just because you have a long response doesn't mean it is factual. In the video I saw he showed his room key; room 539. Now the contract was violated by the hotel and he was not refunded nor did he stay the night. There is a pretty good case here...but you keep misleading the sheep

Honestly, I am exceptionally pleased with the quality and service I received. Thank you again, now my black money is going where it truly belongs. I encourage others to try this out too. 😄
I think a hotel lobby is technically private, but it's open to guests. So, as a customer, it's open to him. Well, it 'should' have been open to him. Maybe the security guard thought he wasn't a guest, and was just some random guy.
The manager should have ended the issue and apologized once it was verified the guy had a room. Continuing to kick him out AND not issuing a refund was even more egregious. That's why both the manger and security guard were fired- no reasonable excuse for their actions.
If I were the manager, I'd apologize and then offer the guest to stay free of charge. That would be a lot cheaper for the hotel than risking being sued.
No need to issue a refund. He said he booked it with his Amex. Part of being an Amex card member is having the ability to call and cancel/dispute any charge at any point without much hassle. I've done it a few times and it's super painless on the cardholder's part. Does not excuse the behavior, but you can be sure he got his $ back.

When I was a little girl of about 3 or 4, I had a black baby doll. I loved that doll. I got her for my birthday. Which is in October. So I had her with me wherever I went. The next year we went to a family reunion and naturally I wanted to take her. The older women were like really old. One of them took her away from me. I was screaming and crying, so I followed the lady with my baby doll. She went and sat down and I’m screaming and crying, so my older sister went to get out daddy. My daddy was so mad. I won’t say what he said about it for one thing because I was so young all I remember is my daddy was mad and he got my baby doll back. But when I was older my sisters told me about that. And my daddy told me when I asked him. The main thing I remember is that that old lady took my baby doll and I got her back because daddy took care of it. But guess what? We never saw thst old lady again. In case you didn’t realize it I’m a white girl. My baby doll stayed with me till I married. I fivally gave her up to a young child in our family. I wish I hadn’t cause she didn’t take care of her. I was little when I got her but she stayed with me avd was safe. We were very poor and my grandmother made clothes for my baby doll.
What the male reporter said about the white lady who spoke up in his own situation is so true- in that *everyone* who believes this toxic racism and hate are wrong has to speak up and work together to eradicate it. Please, if you see something, say something.
The hotel manager should have removed the security guard to a private place, advised him that this was a paying guest and the guard was out of line. Then apologized to Massey for the situation. THAT would have been the right way to handle it. He was not being rude or disrespectful to the guard, just questioning why he was being treated so inappropriately. I'm floored...just floored that anyone would think that this behavior is ok REGARDLESS of race or ethnicity!
Here is my problem with it. What if the guy hadn't checked in yet and got or made a phone call to let family know he was at the hotel. What needs to be done is to have under cover federal investigators go into these places and arrest the cops and the people who participate in this nonsense then it will stop.

I live in Oregon where this incident took place at the Double Tree Hotel that is just minutes from Downtown... The EXTREME Gentrification of all the Neighborhoods in our Cities has EXACERBATED our already White Washed state and created a sickening mentality that treating any person of color (Especially African Americans) is acceptable behavior and perfectly okay. As our city pushes people of color out into the boonies or simply out of the state, the privileged race now occupies all the main cities in all the area's that was once intermixed with other races. If you refuse, they have the right to trespass you from the property and to have the police remove you. The police's job at that point is ONLY to remove you from the property. Needless to say, that it is a blatant waste of EVERYONES tax payer dollars to have the police come out and investigate a baseless accusation. People making these kinds of calls should be fined, once it is determined that the call was not warranted. Perhaps this would cause the accuser to just mind their own business.
That will never happen. Police love false positives, they give them a legitimate reason to harass, detain, and bully the 'undesirables'.
Some states fine if u make an unnecessary call. I don't know if this would qualify cause the security guard is going to look for excuses

It doesn't have to be a Hilton Double Tree. It can happen anywhere. The other day it was Starbucks, then it was Yale university, now it's a Hilton. And then there was the case when employees of a Seattle yogurt shop called the cops on a Black custody supervisor. The cops kicked him out even after he explained that he was there to oversee a parent/child visitation, who were sitting across the next table. They still deemed him a threat and threatened him with trespassing and arrest if he didn't leave.

So naturally, as one race begins to "over dominate", those individuals that are not white, are treated differently, unless we ALL stand up for each other!... I live in a Loft of 180 units - There is only 5 black families that I have ever seen in the last 4yrs since I moved in and I'm a local, born & raised!... We have a SERIOUS problem in Oregon, just like other states in America and it's only getting WORSE for people of color & the Poor/Income Restricted!.... Bottom line is we are all Americans and deserve to be treated with Respect & Dignity regardless of your Genetic Inheritance!... 😕
Airick Anderson I heard that no asian people live in Portland Chinatown
White people be racist yo
I am black and born in John Day Oregon. I have lived all over Oregon and could not agree more. Oregon is absolutely full of racism, ignorance and self entitlement both in the cities and the small towns.
My question is when white people bully another races, is that something they are proud of doing? How does systematically hurting another race play into white ego/view of themselves.
Agree! Black people, if you are reading this, look up your local government representatives, go to city hall meetings, and push back against “opportunity zones”. These plans are built to rebuild blighted communities and push out the natives, often black majority areas. These people investing will get major tax breaks for these investments. Don’t let them walk all over you!
The police response to this was horrible
They're the lap dogs of corporations and politicians. It cant be more obvious than getting threatened with arrest for protesting a hotel taking your money and drop kicking you to the curb on a whim.
I think the police responded accordingly...the manager had asked the gentleman to leave. However, the verbiage in the police report was bogus because it contradicts what we see in the video. I wonder it the officer had his camera on and if it that video also contradicts the report.
After looking at the video again, it looks like what I thought was a camera is actually a part of the officer’s radio.
I agree ! The cop was ready to arrest him regardless of the facts! I would have a lawsuit against the department.
*The police response to this was typical.
Both employees need to be fired
For all the people saying this is not racism. You have to be the dumbest person on earth or blind😂 Because I don’t see how this is not. And I would love to hear someone give me a explanation to how it’s not 😂
They don't deem it racism because in their eyes they think that this is normal and it is ok to think this way. You have some adult white women calling the police on black children for a bookbag touching her, for selling water, and on a black family for "illegally" grilling at the park. Get a hobby if you have that much time on your hands and calling the police away from actual crime for nonsense.

This situation could have definitely been handled better by both sides honestly. When asked if he was a guest he should have handled it commonly.

It is about punishing entities which violate the public policy of equal treatment in accommodations in an effort to create a more harmonious society.
