    That was an epic feeding frenzy. All the layers of an ecosystem at once. The mackerel were huge. Great day.

    Those Mackerel were thick! Pretty cool to have whales right by the boat too!

      Sure was. You don't even know. The fish finder was stacked down to 50' with them. I wish I had got more footage of them.

    Cool fishing next to Wales and some nice catches, too. You were hammering them

      Thanks 👍 It is definitely interesting but also could be hazardous. They are wild animals and I've seen whales jump on boats.

    Amazing location to be so close to humpback whales 😍 Looks like the fish can shake off the hook easily. I caught mackerels in maine but they were smaller. 🐟🐟🐟You got bigger mackerels than the world record 👍🏻 Can you enter your catches for new record?

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine  Рік тому +1

      The location is pretty sweet. They pop off the hook quickly but there are others around to get right back on. I can't enter them now. You have to measure them and weigh them and save your line and lure. It's a process and I wasn't going to do it. Also it costs money. And I already ate most of them.

    I think the whales were after the mackerel or the mackerel was after herring, those whales are in the herring here like that. Mackerel eating the herring and whales eating whatever gets in the way.
    great video Brett is there a part 2 ?🎣

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine  Рік тому +1

      The fish are just much bigger than the record. I don't want to bother with it. You need to pay to get your scale certified and there's a bunch of other crap and fees and I can't be bothered. Especially for a fish most people don't even know exists. I had fun and got a few good meals and that's good enough for me.

    • @EngineeringHooksets
      @EngineeringHooksets Рік тому +2

      Bruh I would be all over that for a world record. You can go to any meat processing store/grocery store and ask to use their scale for a record. Thats how most state records are done. @@PeelingLine

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine  Рік тому

      @@EngineeringHooksets My scale is a good one (reuben heaton) and used to be certified. Maybe I'll try for it next year. I think my red irish lord may have been a world record too. It just gets expensive because it's $50 each time.

    The whale shots where amazing. Looks like you were just jigging with buzz bombs?

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine  Рік тому +2

      Thanks. No we were using 1-3 oz flutter jigs and point wilson darts. They seem to be very aggressive and will hit anything. My friend was using a 3 oz flutter jig for bottom fishing and was dropping it to the bottom when one hit 50' down. But buzz bombs should work especially if you see a school of them blowing up on the surface.

    Fun video but what’s the story? You know like, “hey, we are fishing off the Washington coast for a lesser know fish around here and…”

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine  Рік тому +1

      The story was we were bottom fishing and saw some fish and caught them and they turned out to be mackerel and really fun to catch and world record size. I didn't think people liked the stories. My best videos are the least effort so I don't bother when I'm short on time. I was going to do a bunch more for this video but I hadn't put anything out in a week and just threw this up there.

    Awesome Brett! How much did it weigh?

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine  Рік тому +1

      Thanks. I am not sure. I didn't weigh any of them. I tried to get them processed as quickly as possible. I have heard they aren't great if frozen and I know the sharks won't eat them if they're not fresh. I'll be out there next summer and will get a lot more now that I know how delicious they are.
